What the fudge.
Tyson in the all-star game ?!
Sick numbers though.
Weak East All-Star Cast.
Kobe will win in the three contest.

- Chandler is a monster this season... 19 ppg, 12 rpg kills Shaq's 11 and 11.

- Yao cause he averages nearly 19, 9 and 5 assists... Bibby because they foolishly didn't pick Nashty whos averaging 21, 4.4, 8 and 2 steals. At least they didn't choose Dunleavy! (Y)

Picking the Rest of the All-Stars

Steve Kerr, Yahoo! Sport
February, 15 2006

Houston – Well, the fans have spoken and the All-Star Starting line ups have been unveiled but now it’s time to look at who should be the players who back them up!

As many people should know, the League allows a panel of coaches to decide on who will take up those bench spots on the two All-Star benches. They pick a player from each position and add two wildcard entries to fill up the roster. The burning question though is who should be selected and here I will answer that for you.

So here are my selections:

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Starting Lineup

Mike Bibby, Kobe Bryant, Yao Ming, Kevin Garnett, Tracy Macgrady

Kerr’s Reserves

Guard: Steve Nash – Why Nash isn’t starting is a crime. No disrespect to Mike Bibby but the MVP of 2005 is doing everything right this season and keeping the Amare-less Suns alive with averages of 21 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 8 apg and 2 spg.

Guard: Ray Allen – It’s unfortunate that the Sonics aren’t doing as well as Ray Ray’s averages of 23 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 6 apg and 1.8 spg. His inclusion in the three point shootout and in the All-Star game will dampen his sorrows of missing the postseason.

Forward: Zach Randolph – The Trailblazers are having a surprise season and putting pressure on the Denver Nuggets in their division. Credit this to Zach Randolph who is playing magnificently averaging 26 ppg, 11 rpg and 3 apg plus a ton of huge double doubles.

Forward: Tim Duncan – TD is having another solid season with the Spurs keeping up with the rest of the West’s elite. Although the Spurs have slowed down a bit, it is evident that they are gearing up for another big postseason campaign. The Spurs’ reliance on Duncan and his averages of 23 ppg, 11 rpg, 4 apg and 1.6 bpg justify his selection.

Center: Brad Miller – The Kings are keeping it close with the rest of the Pac and they need every bit of Brad Miller they can get. Since Vlade Divac left town, Miller’s been the one to keep the offence going as he utilises his passing skills to near perfection. He’s averaging 15 ppg, 10 rpg, 4 apg and 1.5 spg.

Wildcard: Dirk Nowitzki – The best player on an improving Dallas team. Dirk is steadily learning to rebound the ball more and lead his team. It’s paying off as the German sharpshooter is averaging 24 ppg, 9 rpg, 3 apg and 1.7 spg.

Wildcard: Shawn Marion – If Carmelo Anthony had not been injured, he would have his name here but maybe he is just forever jinxed. That’s why the Matrix is lucky to lock down a spot on the roster. No doubt that 21 ppg, 11 rpg, 1.8 spg and 1.8 bpg are great stats across the board but for once, we can say that Carmelo deserves a spot on the All-Star team more than another player.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Starting Lineup

Chauncey Billups, Kirk Hinrich, Tyson Chandler, Rasheed Wallace, Paul Pierce

Kerr’s Reserves

Guard: Allen Iverson – The struggling Sixers may see Iverson skip town next season if they keep losing like they are. Iverson is having a bit of a down year in scoring but he’s still one of the best scorers in the NBA. With averages of 24 ppg, 4 rpg, 7 apg and 3 spg, I can look past his team’s lack of success.

Guard: Vince Carter – New Jersey is on a roll and Vince Carter has been a big reason behind it! Vinsanity continues to impress critics with 22 ppg, 5 rpg, 3.2 apg and 2 spg and his cohesiveness with RJ and JKidd was unprecedented.

Forward: LeBron James – Lebron’s numbers of 21 ppg, 9 rpg and 7 apg say it all. The Cavs are up there with the Bulls, Pistons and Pacers. All of this just means that LeBron is the next best ‘unselfish superstar’ since Magic Johnson! Even Magic likes this kid!

Forward: Richard Jefferson – Pity that Kidd probably won’t make the All-Star game but if RJ is included, make sure you see what he does for Kidd! The swingman sensation is averaging 20 ppg, 10 rpg, 4 apg and 1.7 spg. Great numbers and he plays for a great team.

Center: Zydrunaus Ilgauskas – The second best big man in the East after Tyson Chandler. Z can score and he’s the Cavs’ anchor with averages of 17 ppg, 9 rpg and 2 bpg. However, I do admit that it was hard to write off Ben Wallace in favour of Z.

Wildcard: Grant Hill – The Magic may not be having the best season but Hill is still walking right? That should be enough to be a call for celebration. Mr Nice Guy is sitting on averages of 25 ppg and 7 rpg. Who would have thought he’d still be this good?

Wildcard: Ron Artest – The Pacers are still a part of the East’s top teams and Ron Artest is their best player and their leader. After missing a lot of valuable playing time last season, Ron has put everything behind him to lead Indiana. He leads the team with 22 ppg and is second only to Jermaine O’neal with a surprising 9 rpg. All of this plus his trademark defence and hustle.

- Thanks man but Big Ben and Z is basically a tossup. Z has better offence by far while Ben has better defence by a bit... but this is all statistically! And yeh.. i dont wanna give Bron all the credit in Cleveland!
