LAKERS VS. SUNS
American West Arena, Phoenix, 8:00 p.m., PST

TV, radio: FSAZ; KTAR 620
Records: Lakers, 3-6; Suns, 6-2

KEY MATCHUP: SHAWN MARION VS. LAMAR ODOM
This will be a very interesting matchup as both players are athletic with very long arms. In Odom's first season with the Lakers, he is averaging 17.7ppg, 7.6rpg and 4.0apg. Shawn Marion is having probably his best season as a Sun, avearging 21.3ppg, 10.8rpg and 3.4apg. Expect to see these two players go at it alot from the perimeter to inside the paint.

INSIDE THE LAKERS
Things haven't been too great in "LA-LA" Land every since Shaq-Daddy left. The 3-6 Lakers are having one of their worse starts in franchise history. The new era of Kobe's team hasn't went too well so far in the season. Kobe's numbers have surprisingly stayed the same since last season, averaging 23ppg, 5.4rpg and 5apg, but he is shooting 44% from the field and a career-best 41% from 3-point land. As the season is still early, you might see Kobe step his game up.

INSIDE THE SUNS
The Suns have one of the worse benches in the league, but they also have one of the best starting lineups in the league. With the majority of the starters getting 35+ minutes a game, you never know who will score 30 on you. At least one starter has been the leading scorer for the Suns out of their 8 games played.

2nd Quarter Play Give Suns Win
Phoenix frontcourt is top-notch in the league

Kobe's 25 points wasn't enough to overcome the Lakers 16-point deficit

PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) -- The Suns had a hard time containing the two best offensive players on the Lakers team, but they were able to put in enough offense for them to get the win tonight. The Lakers shot 44% from the field, while the Suns just shot 40%. "It was an all out effort in the 2nd quarter. We shot horrific after before that quarter and afterwards," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said.

One thing the Suns did to outscore the Lakers 32-18 in the 2nd quarter was contain Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom who started out shooting a combined 6-9 from the field in the 1st quarter. "We knew we had to stop them in order for us to make a run," Richardson said. "They are a great deal to deal with, so it took alot more teamwork to stop them." The Suns frontcourt took care of things from there as they allowed Mihm to only score 3 points and grab 6 rebounds in the game. Stoudemire 4 steals and 2 blocks help spark a run for the Suns early in the 3rd quarter.

Phoenix was able to go to the free throw line an amazing 40 times which is the main reason why they capitalize against the Lakers. The Lakers only went to the line 16 times and made 13 of their free throws, while the Suns made 33 out of their 40 free throws. "I think the officials weren't calling the game right as you look at the free throw numbers," Lakers coach Rudy Tomjanovich said during the after game press conference. "There is no way a deficit like that should ever happen in the NBA especially when you have a player like Kobe on your team. He only went to the line five times the entire game." The Lakers also outrebounded the Phoenix Suns 45-42 and dished out three more assists than the Suns.

SUNS VS. CLIPPERS
Staples Center, Los Angeles, 3:00 p.m., PST

TV, radio: FSAZ; KTAR 620
Records: Suns, 7-2; Clippers, 2-8

KEY MATCHUP: SHAWN MARION VS. ELTON BRAND
Marion is matched up against the more physical Elton Brand who just may give Marion some problems tonight. Brand is averaging 21.3ppg and 10.3rpg. He is 3rd in the league in BPG with 2.3 a contest. Marion will have to cntain him by fronting him in the post. With Marion's athleticism, he can jump up and contest each pass Brand gets since Brand only stands 6'9", while Marion stands at 6'7".

INSIDE THE SUNS
Phoenix continues to shine in the NBA as they stand 7-2 and are 2nd in the Western Conference standings just 1/2 game behind the 8-2 Dallas Mavericks. After their loss to the Mavericks on November 16, the Suns have won two straight against the Hornets and Lakers. The Suns starting 5 is averaging 92.3ppg and they are playing fast-break basketball.

INSIDE THE CLIPPERS
The Clippers started the season off losing 5 straight games, then they won 2 straight, but lost another 3 games. Things haven't been looking too good for the Clippers as they are on the verge of another losing season. The 4th overall pick in the draft, Shaun Livingston hasn't had the chance to display any talent as he is averaging 1.1ppg and 1.6apg in 8.8mpg through 10 games for the Clippers.
