January Recap | Part Three

1 Feb AP - This is the third part of a special feature NBA monthly recap. These articles will be posted at the conclusion of every NBA month. Our third installment comes to you, informing you of the NBA’s League Leaders as of Jan 31.

League Leaders

Points Per Game

Image

After January, it seems that everyone but Kobe Bryant has cooled off. While stars such as Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Allen Iverson dropped down a few spots down the scoring list; Kobe stayed steadied and added a few more points to get closer to being the first player since the legendary Michael Jordan to average 35 points a game. Pierce and Hinrich are second and third respectively but the margin between Bryant and the two stands at 7ppg. Just give Kobe that scoring title now!

Rebounds Per Game

Image

Shawn Marion’s hanging in there on that rebounding list dominated by big men but expect him to lose his place with Amare Stoudamire’s return. Sophomore sensation Dwight Howard still leads the league with 12.5 boards a game and fellow Soph Emeka Okafor has shot up to third on the list. Shaq’s return from injury sees him back in the official list of top rebounders. Don’t expect the rebounding numbers to be this high by season’s end. We’re predicting Dwight to win the top rebounding title at 12 per game but most of his competitors will be in the sub-10 section.

Assists Per Game

Image

Reigning MVP Steve Nash has affirmed himself as the Sun’s heart and soul. Don’t forget he’s the team’s legs too! The Canadian throwback PG raised the bar for all point men last month and did well dishing to all of his teammates. He’s leading the League in dimes and that’s probably going to be the case in a few months’ time. Watch out for alley-oops in every Suns’ game for the rest of this season, especially since Amare is back. In other news, Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant have both made it into the Top 3. And someone tell us where did Bassy come from? He’s averaging 7.5 a game!

Steals Per Game

Image

It might seem that AI overtook Wade but it’s really Wade falling behind him. Last month saw Emeka Okafor in the league leaders for steals but now he’s fallen out of the top 10 as predicted! Kobe Bryant has crept into the top 10 and Kevin Garnett’s place in the leaders is still an indication of his versatility. Just a note to players such as Marbury and Francis; Steals doesn’t equal All-Star quality defense.

Blocks Per Game

Image

AK47 is on top of this list. The kid is like a walking quindruple double waiting to happen - yeah thats right; 5 categories in double digits. We have a hunch that it will happen some day! Yao is averaging a career high in blocks per game this season while Sheed and big Ben have seen their swattage drop slightly over the course of the month. But wait one sec... isn't Tayshawn Prince a Piston too?

Minutes Per Game

Image

Nothing funny here. Kobe’s gotten a bit more rest last month thanks to a couple of blowout victories and huge performances. One thing amazes us though and it’s Mike Dunleavy. Since when does a player like him get to play 42 minutes a game. 42 minutes and that’s ahead of Baron Davis and Jason Richardson. Ok, we know they don’t play the same positions but heck; even Derek Fisher would be better than Mike!

It's quintuple, actually. But I do think it'll happen.

LBJ isn't there neither :( Wow.

Mon Apr 17, 2006 9:22 am

Both their teams are doing good right... do they need to be up there?

Mon Apr 17, 2006 11:38 pm

Hey Sit,

This would have to be my first post in this dynasty, which is different, considering your last dynasty i posted a fair bit.

Anyways, ive liked what ive read a real lot so far, so definatly keep it up. Its good to see Kirk Hinrich playing well, gotta give respect for the White guy doing his thing ;).

Are you going to be including NLSCers in the draft, because if you are, depending on if i have a cyberface (still waiting if anyone wants to have a try: see patch requests :D), id love to be in this dynasty.

Anyways, have a good one.

Tue Apr 18, 2006 12:10 am

Thanks for the ehads up Dean! It means a lot!

As for NLSCers in the draft... i'm still making the decision. Depends on how popular this thread gets.

Tue Apr 18, 2006 2:16 am

...from the Chronicles of the 2006 Birdie Project:(info)

Sit's LA Lakers 2005-06 mid-season Birdie Breakdown:
Image
What more can you say about the Lakers other than Kobe Bryant?!?! Sit's Kobe is an offensive juggernaut(imagine that) and earns Team MVP honors with a weighted Birdie efficiency score of 30.48 - and his 'reversible' LiveCard is now enabled.

In his first 2006 entry to the board:
This Dynasty instance is currently ranked #28 on the Official 2006 Birdie Board
However, Kobe Bryant ranks #3 on the Official 2006 Top 10 MVPs
AND ranks #8 on the Official Top 10 MVPs of ALL-TIME.

Image
(view entire list here)

The qualifers:
K. Bryant 34.7 ppg (ranks 1st)
L. Odom 9.8 rpg (ranks 4th)
K. Bryant 7.6 apg (ranks 6th)
K. Bryant 2.35 spg (ranks 3rd)
C. Mihm 1.88 bpg (ranks 4th)
K. Bryant 0.54 field goal% (ranks 7th)
K. Bryant 0.876 free throw% (ranks 7th)
L. Odom 0.353 3 point% (ranks 7th)

Complete 'Birdie Breakdown' coverage AND to see Bryant 's' reversible' Live Card clickhere.

Sit: Well, Sit, FINALLY seven months into the release of '06 we finally got you OFFICIALLY on the Birdie Board...yeh! I find that rather unheralded might I say. Hopefully your end of year stats won't take another 7 months! My question for you is...what's wrong with Walton?!?! He hasn't even gotten off the bench! ...and George is getting more than playing time than him? I know your hatred for Bill Walton runs deep but hey, you gottta know when to let things go!

Tue Apr 18, 2006 12:24 pm

Great Dynasty Sit, keep it up man (Y)

Tue Apr 18, 2006 12:26 pm

Wait ... Sit's playing with the Lakers?

Tue Apr 18, 2006 12:40 pm

Thanks for the support Fellas! Props to Honor for the shoutout... just let me say to everyone, how much I think Honor should be congratualted for doing LiveGMC! (Y) This is for you in true X fashion! (B)

And Cable... that is something for you to ponder on! <-- About LA!

And Flo, wat can I do to get my dynasty up there with X's?

And ~boshalladay~ and Srbija- thanks for the support! Without people like you, this thread wouldn't have gotten to 10,000 views and I think of that as an accomplishment!

Tue Apr 18, 2006 4:31 pm

man... as i said u're up there, too ;)
it's just that u don't really play those games it's just a story, an awesome story....

i don't really know what is better...
can't explain :?

keep it up 8-)

Tue Apr 18, 2006 4:43 pm

Thanks Sit...just please keep your pstats a'coming...I learned some cool webscraping techniques that should help remind myself to bug you guys in submitting your stats on a timely basis but then again, that's yet another project that I have a'coming for liveGMC. Right now I'm working on authentication so you guys can submit the stats yourself without the lame lag time that's been known to keep me in the dog house...

Thu Apr 20, 2006 8:35 am

Well Flo... I shall play the All-Star weekend coming up soon! (Y)

And Laxation.. be confused! Be VERY confused! BTW next chapter + MVP report is coming!

And Honor, I hope to see LiveGMC flourish!

Thu Apr 20, 2006 1:51 pm

Yeah, add the NLSC'ers in the draft. Ask Cwebb how he made my guy, cuz it's good

Thu Apr 20, 2006 8:46 pm

I dont know... it really all depends on how much time I have... And yeh.. if not adding NLSCers means less viewers or no viewers, so be it!
