Heaven for Halstead
"Ladies and gentlemen what a close game this has been." It was Tuesday night, 5:00 p.m. at Houston, a few hours before the Rockets were set to play against the Utah Jazz. The Rockets were in the locker room before their shoot around, and Kevin Martin had turned on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers game to see Brad Halstead embarrass himself in his first game. "This Halstead guy has got some talent. Wonder how he dropped to the second round," said an amazed Kyle Lowry. "This is the D-League Kyle, c'mon, if he were to play with us, he wouldn't be doing that well," replied an unconvinced Kevin Martin.
"Game is tied at 86, Vipers get the last possession of the game with 6.6 seconds left here in the 4th. The Vipers are undefeated this season, a perfect 5-0. We'll see what Chris Finch will come up with to win the game," Vipers play-by-play commentator said. "I'd get the ball to Brad Halstead, he's got the hot-hand right now. 11/14 from the field, and 8/12 from the line with 31 points. That's a very good stat line," said the color commentator of the Vipers.
"For a scrub in the D-League," K-Mart muttered to himself. "Antonio Anderson will inbound the ball. Full timeout over for the Vipers. They need a basket, or else it's overtime. The reigning champion wants to continue to show why they're the champions," continued the play-by-play commentator. "A good screen to get a shooter open should do in this situation. You have enough time to run a play to create an open shot, but the shooter must not be afraid to fail." replied the color commentator.
"Either Will Conroy or Brad Halstead can pull through here," said the play-by-play. The referee blew his whistle to start the last play of the game. "Anderson finds Halstead. And he dribbles it, 5, 4, 3, 2, Halstead... for the win! YES!!!" the crowd at Rio Grande jumped to their feet. Brad Halstead had made the game-winner from the top of the key. "NO!!! What the fuck!" whined Kevin Martin. "What's wrong man, don't you want our affiliate to win?" asked Donte Greene, who applauded at the outcome. "Fuck our affiliate. Brad just got lucky." replied an angry K-Mart.
Brad Halstead was pulled over for an interview. "Brad, in your first professional game, you score 31 points, pull down 13 rebounds, and drop 12 dimes, and score a game-winner, that must feel very refreshing." said the interviewer. "It does, it shows that I should've been taken earlier in the draft. The game was just easy for me tonight, a great individual effort helped me win. I go on to the next game with confidence," said Brad, full of nothing but swagger.
"He's full of shit. He didn't even mention the team effort. Douchebag," said Kevin Martin, and turned off the TV with the remote. "Hey man, I put up those types of performances when I was in the D-League, and I'll tell you, it makes you feel on top of the world," said Greene. "Well I'd understand why you put up those performances, you're a great player Donte," said Martin. "What I don't get, is how Brad put up that many numbers. His shooting technique has no consistency, and a selfish player dish out 12? That's puzzling," said Martin again.
"Don't worry your head over that game man, we need you mentally and physically for every game Kevin," said Shane Battier, who was already prepared for the game. "When Brad comes back, I'm sure he'll rub it all in your face, but I'll help you change his attitude. Arrogance doesn't get you very far in basketball," Battier patted Martin on the back, and Kevin Martin looked at him, and nodded. "Now come on team, let's get ready to play basketball," Yao stood up, and motioned for his team to get ready for the game.
In Rio Grande, Brad Halstead was thinking of the look on Kevin Martin's face, imagined he would get a good laugh out of it, and got on the team bus, with a grin on his face.

I don't think K-Mart has issues. If somebody who was arrogant picked on nobody but you, you'd go insane sooner or later.

With that kind of performance from Brad, I think he'll get recalled to the team.
