ImageIndiana Pacers

New: Theo Ratliff (Traded for Austin Croshere), Daniel Gibson (R), Shawne Williams (R)

Leaver: Austin Croshere (Traded for Theo Ratliff), Eddie Gill, Scott Pollard

The Pacers had a solid offseason. Their both draft picks are players with huge talent. The trade of Austin Croshere gave them a real center, so Jermaine O`Neal can play the four, his usual position. The Pacers have everything now, a defensive stopper big man (Ratliff), a go-to-guy (JO), a shooter (Peja), a scoring role player (Stephen Jackson) and a solid point guard (Jamal Tinsley). Their bench is young, but good. Jasikevicius did well last season, Danny Granger has improved. The Pacers can make the Conference Finals this season.

ImageLA Clippers

New: Travis Diener (FA), Chuck Hayes (FA), Kyle Lowry (R), Mike Gansey (R)

Leaver: Sam Cassell (retired), Walter McCarty, James Singleton

The Clippers loose one of their best players in Sam Cassell. He was old, but still the best backcourt player. With the resigning of Vladimir Radmanovic they still have one of the best frontcourts of the league with Maggette, Brand, Radmanovic, Kaman. Their main focus was to strenghten their backcourt. Two guards were drafted, Howard Eisley was resigned. If Shaun Livingston can show his big potential consitently, the Clippers will again manage the playoffs and maybe more.

ImageLA Lakers

New: Marcus Williams (R), Cedric Simmons (R)
Leaver: Aaron McKie (retired)

Maybe not enough changes for the Lakers. After a horrible season they should have taken more risks. No trade, only the resigning of one not important player (Devin Green) and two new players with the rookies. Okay, Marcus Williams and Cedric Simmons are two very talented players and exactly what the Lakers needed, but they are still rookies and will need their time.
If the rookies can contribute, the Lakers will do way better, if not, cya in the lottery.

Sry for the rare updates, but I am a bit ill, so this is just a small update, but I hope I will do better in the next days, thx for ya comments !

ImageMemphis Grizzlies

New: Steve Francis, Malik Rose, Nick Fazekas (R), Yue Sun (R)

Leaver: Anthony Roberson, Lawrence Roberts, Eddie Jones, Bobby Jackson, Antonio Burks, Lorenzen Wright, Chucky Atkins

The Grizzlies lost many players this offseason. They did not resign anybody except Bobby Jackson, but he was traded to the Knicks later. At least Lorenzen Wright was a good alternate at the center spot.
The trade that brought Steve Francis to Memphis could be an enormous boost for this team. They lacked of athleticism and needed such a leaper. But it will be hard to reach the playoffs again for the Grizzlies. Their Power Forward starter is Brian Cardinal, not the best. Their alternates are Nick Fazekas and Hakim Warrick, two very young player. And if Pau Gasol is injured, the starting center will be Jake Tsakalidids ... no comment.

ImageMiami Heat

New: James White (R), Marcus Vinicius (R)

Leaver: Gary Payton (retired)

No very interesting deals in Miami. But the draft of Marcus Vinicius could be a huge steal. He is a point forward player, someone who can get the stars the ball were they feel comfortable. The resigning of Alonzo Mourning was also not bad, since "Zo" is still hot and wants to win a championship. The Heat will again play around the title, hopefully Shaq can still show his big performances.

ImageMilwaukee Bucks

New: Damir Markota (R), Maurice Ager (R), Viktor Khyrapa

Leaver: Reece Gaines, Toni Kukoc, Jiri Welsch

The Bucks had a good draft. Maurice Ager can help this team a lot with his playing style. Damir Markota is a underrated big man. Their only deal, sending Reece Gaines to Portland in exchange for Viktor Khryapa gives them another underrated big guy. The Bucks shall improved again and again make the playoffs, maybe further with a new sweet logo.

ImageMinnesota Timberwolves

New: Rudy Fernandez (R), Shelden Williams (R)

Leaver: Ronald Dupree, Anthony Carter, Bracey Wright,

The Minnesota Timberwolves played a weak last season but did not do enough and the right moves to shake things up. The draft of Shelden Williams is a questionmark. "The Landlord" is a very good player, rebounder and shot blocker. But he plays the same position as Kevin Garnett does and is undersized to play bigger. Also Eddie Griffin got resigned. So this pick does not make sense at all. Not resigning several players was maybe the move by the T-Wolves. No playoffs in Minnesota next season.

Another update, I am hot and want to start my season soon :) although im a bit ill.

Fri Jun 30, 2006 5:07 am

When we all know actual draft now, it is weird to see these rookies in the other teams here :)
wow Grizzlies lost like half team with 7 players gone
Recover from the illness soon

Fri Jun 30, 2006 5:31 am

Lol .. memphis 7 players gone :P and just 5 in :P

Now the Memphis scouts are evrywere

Fri Jun 30, 2006 5:33 am

After a long offseason for NBA fans the season begins in just a few weeks.
Let´s take a look at the NBA teams, their chances and their new players.

*R=Rookie; *FA=Free Agent

ImageNew Jersey Nets

New: James Augustine (R), Mardy Collins (R)

Leaver: Lamond Murray, Jaque Vaughn

The Nets very not satisfied with the last season and the playoff-out in round 1. Nevertheless they did not do enough moves in offseason to boost heir team. They have three stars, but the role players are not good enugh. They have no post game and did not draft a good power forward in order to improve it. Round 1 and out for the Nets again.

ImageNew Orleans Hornets

New: Corliss Williamson , Jason Hart, Jelani McCoy (FA), Drew Gooden (FA), Rodney Carney (R), Pops Mensah-Bonsu (R)

Leaver: PJ Brown, David West, Rasual Butler, Jackson Vroman, Linton Johnson

Lots of moves by the New Orleans/Oklahoma Hornets. After making the playoffs the Hornets wanted to improve their team. The draft was very successfull, Rodney Carney fits perfectly into this fast team. Pops Mensah-Bonsu has big potential. Signing Drew Gooden and trading away PJ Brown and David West gave them a better bench, but weakened their starting C spot. Marc Jackson will have to start there, newly signed Jelani McCoy is his backup. The Hornets have a big questionmark on them. They could reach the playoffs again and suprise everyone, since Chris Paul will be better than last year, J.R. Smith is up to improve again and the mixture of old and young is good. They could also end up with not making the playoffs, because they lost their best frontcourt players.

ImageNew York Knicks

New: Eddie Jones, Bobby Jackson, Ryan Hollins (R), Rudy Gay (R)

Leaver: Steve Francis, Malik Rose, Keith Van Horn, Qyntel Woods, Jackie Butler

The New York Knicks played a horrible last season, although they had a lot of talented players. Maybe too many, and some of them with the wrong working ethic. So the first deal was to give away one top-gifted player. Steve Francis leaves New York to Memphis together with Malik Rose and Bobby Jackson and Eddie Jones come in exchange. A good move, bringing some experienced players, team players. The draft of Rudy Gay sounds pretty good, but no one knows if this guy will make it in the NBA. The biggest problem of the Knicks is, that they have no salary cap space and have to try to limit this with every trade. GM Hov did well this offseason, let´s hope the player do so. Round 1 and out.

ImageOrlando Magic

New: Alex Acker (FA), Brandon Roy (R), Dee Brown (R)

Leaver: Travis Diener, Mario Kasun, Tony Battie, Pat Garrity

The Orlando Magic did not make many moves this offseason. They have one of the most quantitive backcourts of the league with 7 players, but do not have any real center and only 3 power forwards. It will be all about Dwight Howard in Orlando, and that won´t be enough since he is not in his prime yet. No playoffs.

baah, I am still ill, but not that bad, so I am kinda bore, maybe more updates today :) (Well Germany play, so if they do not win, no updates ;) )

After a long offseason for NBA fans the season begins in just a few weeks.
Let´s take a look at the NBA teams, their chances and their new players.

*R=Rookie; *FA=Free Agent

ImagePhiladelphia 76ers

New: Ronald Dupree (FA), Randy Foye (R), Darius Washington (R)

Leaver: Louis Williams, Shavlik Randolph, Matt Barnes, Mike Bradley

The 76ers have the last year´s MVP. That is a fact you can not deny. Chris Webber is also a strong offensive present, although he is getting old. Samuel Dalembert is a defensive powerhouse, Kyle Korver can shoot and Andre Iguodala can do it all. So nothing really changed in Philadelphia. The bench is still weak, the new rookies will have problems to earn playing time, maybe the Sixers will go small like last year with AI as a two-guard and Iggy as a forward. That would be the chance for Randy Foye to play in the starting five, control the game and learn scoring from Iverson. Playoffs for sure, maybe round two.

ImagePhoenix Suns

New: Ha Seung-Jin, Marcus Slaughter (R), Curtis Stinson (R)

Leaver: Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Pat Burke, Brian Grant (retired)

The Phoenix Suns did not have to change anything at all. Their starting five is one of the best at this time with three All-Stars and two perfect role players. The bench is still strong although Brian Grant ended his career. The Suns will again play around the Conference Finals and if they get enough focus on it, they might end up with the Championship.

ImagePortland Trailblazers

New: Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Austin Croshere, Reece Gaines (FA), Aaron Gray (R), Allan Ray (R)

Leaver: Theo Ratliff, Voshon Lenard

Another couple of bad moves, at least for this season. The trade of Theo Ratliff was clever since Austin Croshere´s big contract will run out after this season while Theo´s expires in two years. That is the only bonus about this trade. The draft was okay. Only okay because their second round draft pick Allen Ray is a steal and could develope fast. Aaron Gray is not one of the of the top bigmen of the draft, and the Blazers want him to start over Joel Przybilla ! Sounds horrible .... The team that suprised everyone with almost making the playoffs last year could turn into a serious top three lottery contender.

ImageSacramento Kings

New: PJ Brown, David West, Quincy Douby (R), Leon Powe (R)

Leaver: Corliss Williamson, Jason Hart, Jamal Sampson, Ronnie Price

Sweet offseason for the Kings. Acquiring David West and PJ Brown gives them two great backups for Brad Miller and Shareef Abdur-Rahim, something they lacked of. The draft of Quincy Douby compensates the trade of Jason Hart very well. Also they managed to resign Bonzi Wells, their second best scorer last season. With this roster the Kings should be able to make the playoffs, at least eight-seeded. Mike Bibby is not in his prime yet, maybe he will manage it this season.

Second last update for the breakdown, puh, it is not that funny to write not as much as doin recaps and banners and stuff, but I want you to know why which player plays in another team and stuff. I also recognized not that many replies in the last days, so maybe this is just as boring for you as it is for me to write this ... sry for that ;)

Sun Jul 02, 2006 4:10 am

lol who'd actually consider signing a European bust - Tskitishvili?

Sun Jul 02, 2006 7:47 am

It was a trade, sry I didnt write that. They traded Tsikitshvili for Ha Seung Jin.

Sun Jul 02, 2006 1:05 pm

Top stuff dude, im enjoying reading the offseason reviews of the teams (Y)

Sat Jul 08, 2006 3:16 am

did you quit on this ..lol

Sat Jul 08, 2006 4:38 am

No !

I did not find the time, sry ..... I was ill for almost a week and missed some stuff in school, but had two tests, so I had to learn everything I missed ....

And it is too sunny .. so I kinda lost the fun while the sun was shining

This weekend might be rainy ..... so I think I can update maybe even today we will see .....

This will not be dead unless I post it is over !!!!

So long Hov

After a long offseason for NBA fans the season begins in just a few weeks.
Let´s take a look at the NBA teams, their chances and their new players.

*R=Rookie; *FA=Free Agent

ImageSan Antonio Spurs

New: Jose Juan Barea (R), Richard Roby (R)

Leaver: Nazr Mohammed, Sean Marks, Robert Horry (retired)

The Spurs had a quiet offseason. The drafted two guards to strengthen their old backcourt. They resigned Nick Van Exel to a two year contract. Their only mistake was not to resign Nazr Mohammed, who would have been even more important after the career end of Robert Horry. The Spurs will again make it far, Tony Parker should make way better after a long season of injuries. Conference Finals.

ImageSeattle Supersonics

New: Hilton Armstrong (R), Yotam Halperin (R)

Leaver: Mike Wilks

Another tough year for the Supersonics. Their main problem is the frontcourt. Chris Wilcox was resigned and should show that he can be better than last year. But the other big men are too young to contribute in a consistent way. Number ten pick Hilton Armstrong is their starting center. A young gifted guy, but too weak to start. Johan Petro and Robert Swift are his backups. No comment. Ray Allen Rashard Lewis and Luke Ridnour are the only hope in Seattle. But that is not enough to make the playoffs.

ImageToronto Raptors

New: Kareem Rush, Mike Dunleavy, Adam Morrison (R), Thabo Sefolosha (R)

Leaver: Alvin Williams, Antonio Davis (retired)

The Raptors had the most active part in this year´s offseason. After the last season there had to be some moves in order to turn around this franchise. The draft of Adam Morrison was the first good move. He will fit into their system beautifully. Signing Kareem Rush was quite clever, since he was the suprise of the last season. Signing Mike Dunleavy Jr. was maybe not the best move, since the needed a big man. But at least the Raptors resigned Pape Sow and Jose Calderson. This year could be huge, playoffs seem reachable.

ImageUtah Jazz

New: Earl Barron, Kevin Burleson, Andrea Bargnani (R), Guillermo Diaz (R)

Leaver: Jarron Collins, Matt Harpring, Milt Palacio, Andre Owens

The Utah Jazz had one of the better drafts with picking the gifted Andrea Bargnani and the quick scoring threat Guillermo Diaz. The other offseason moves were more like not resigning fillers and signing fillers. The Jazz could turn out to be very strong with their starting lineup, but the bench is not very good and this might be important in the hard western conference.

ImageWashington Wizards

New: LaMarcus Aldridge (R), Sergio Rodriguez (R)

Leaver: Awvee Storey, Andrey Blatche

The Washington Wizards had such a bad season, you wanted to brandmark them with a "Do-A-Deal" mark. But instead of doing overhasty moves, the Wizs kept cool and analyzed their roster. The bench: It was so weak last season that you even could not deal one of those players. So they did not resign the Free Agents and used their picks to get two very strong players. LaMarcus Aldridge will come off the bench, since his position is the same as Antawn Jamison´s. Sergio Rodriguez will be the backup for Gilbert Arenas if Antonio Daniels plays like he did last season ... weak. And finally they reached an agreement with Caron Butler to stay in Washington. The Wizards will be way better than last year, playoffs are reachable.

Ok, now we will start with our training camp and have at least one pre season game in order to introduce the new court and our new players.
I will start a coaches diary, too. Kinda like that ;)
So long hov

August, 29th

Just two days before the start of the training camp, the New York Knicks´ coach Larry Brown gave a press conference in which he announced his retirement from his position. "It is a decision I had to make due health problems. I think it will be too much of a stress for me, since this team and this position demands a lot. I am quite sorry, but I talked to Chris Hov 2 days ago and he just regrets the situation as much as I do."
It is not clear yet, who will take the coaches position, but the General Manager Chris Hov seems to be a serious candidate, maybe the only one.
"This is a hard situation for us, but I think it would be the best to take someone who is responsible for the team´s actual status".

Image

September, 2nd

The training camp of the New York Knickerbockers started yesterday, on September the 1st of 2006. After the Summer League and a short break the players are again up to work. For the Knicks the emphasis was on the offensive end, with shooting, working on different plays and playing a lot practice games. But the players also had to sweat in the fitness rooms of the MSG Center.
"We thought we have to improve offensively, our weakness last year. For sure you always have to train your body, that is always like 50-50 for us., GM Hov said, who is responsible for the team at the moment, probably for the whole season.
Two big suprises of this year´s camp were Channing Frye and David Lee.
The two youngsters, heading into their sophomore season looked completely different. Both gained around 10 lbs. of weight, mainly muscle mass. Channing Frye also suprised with his new mini afro haircut and a tattoo."I think I made a huge step this offseason, I worked hard and tried to gain muscles without loosing my quickness, pretty worked for me., Frye said.
The rookies showed pretty dedicated performances and will be a good addition with their athleticism. All in all the Knicks had a good start into their camp and it seemed that Chris Hov also brought a new spirit into the training sessions. Seeing players laughing and joking around was not possible while Larry Brown coached the Knicks.

ImageImageImage

Let´s try to analyze the sessions the media was able to watch, to make out the improvements of the various players on the Knicks roster.
Channing Frye and David Lee gave the best impressions.
Frye improved in his defense and his timing on block, especially due his better leaping ability.(+2 jump, +2 steal, +1 block, +1 speed, +1 def. aw.)
David Lee looked completely different, not only his body, but his game also. He acted fresher on both ends of the court, especially on defense. His working ethic is just awesome, he works on his weak parts of his game. (+2 def. aw., +2 steal, +1 block, +1 quickness, +1 strenght, +1 off. aw.)
The third upcoming sophomore, Nate Robinson also improved a lot. He actually just seemed to be in a better shape, fitter.
His leaping and his speed are unreachable, his defense looked well improved. (+2 steal, +2 block, +2 strenght, +1 speed, +1 jump, +1 def. reb.)
And the new veteran Bobby Jackson gave a much better impression than he gave while he played for Memphis.
He showed dunks like a young leaper and played tough defense. (+1 dunk, +1 def. aw., +1 steal, +1 def. reb., +1 off. reb).

Image

Definitely a hard week for the whole organization. Larry´s retirement did not really suprise me. Not only his health problems, but a tough last season and so many critique ..... I can understand why he quit.
Now it is up to me .... being the coach of a team, a hard job, but maybe a good thing in connection with the position as a General Manager. I can keep a close eye on how everybody does, especially the players.
Channing did really suprise me. His personality seems to have matured a bit, do not get me wrong, he was never childish, but just to quiet and shy as a rookie. His new look gave him pretty much self-confidence.
David has again showen that he wants to work. One of the winners of the offseason, just like last year. He will see more minutes this year than Larry gave him. I like his engagement.
I also like that there were almost no rumours about anybody this offseason. No "Starbury" stories or anything. Stephon was pretty focused while the training sessions. He has to lead this young team. I think the acquirement of Eddie and Bobby helped him a lot. To watch those veterans, how composed they act. And he does also know that there is a Bobby Jackson and a Nate Robinson behind him, who want to play.
I am looking forward to our pre season game.

Yes, for sure, I kinda like it, like in Andrew´s and some other´s dynasty.
It brings my opinion a bit more to the table than in the last season.

thx for your comment ;)
