Lamrock/Chaba - thx guys and yeah, Watson is tearing it up  who would've thunk?

JMS - no way i'm editing that! the truth hurts sometimes :P
thought about going after Dalembert next season to replace Deke and could probably swing it since the computer AI isn't too bright; but I'll leave him in Philly as they'd be hard to let him go in 'real life' were he to put up such good stats

as always comments appreciated - game 4 on the way!

GAME RECAP

Houston (AP) -- Despite foul trouble and a subpar offensive night, Tracy McGrady could not hold back an ear-to-ear grin from the bench as his Houston Rockets knocked off the two-time defending champion Phoenix Suns 101-91 and advanced to the second round for the first time since the '95-96 season.

Without injured Shooting Guard Joey Graham available to start, Rockets' coach, Phil Jackson, looked to shake things up, assigning the role to rookie sharpshooter, Garrick Briggs, as well as starting veteran Point Guard, Brevin Knight, while bringing usual starter, Deron Williams, off the bench.

The switch was effective, as Knight and Briggs were able to find their rhythms early while the bigger, stronger Williams helped manhandle the Suns off-the-bench energizer, Leandro Barbosa. Knight and Briggs would combined for 24 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals and only 2 turnovers between them.

McGrady began the contest tight and struggled to find his shot in the early goings then committed a few frustration fouls and soon found himself watching from the sidelines. Luckily Yao Ming would step up his game, not scoring-wise, but as the team's playmaker, continually finding the open man with crisp passes throughout the night.

Almost mirroring game 3, Phoenix found themselves digging a double-digit hole at the end of one, then rallied to within 2 points by halftime. Even with D-Will stuck on him all night, Barbosa still managed to tally 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting coming off the bench to lead the Suns' second unit.

But Houston would rely on it's bread-and-butter - tough defense - in the second half, led by an attacking McGrady who seemed to be everywhere on the floor to disrupt shot attempts.

"Shots weren't falling for me," he said of his lackluster performance, "so coach said I needed to find another way to contribute and get us a win." McGrady finished with 14 points, 3 rebounds and a team-high 4 steals.

Raja Bell, led a final charge early in the 4th quarter by nailing two consecutive treys to close the Suns within 4 points but it would be Phoenix's last gasp as Yao led an 11-2 run to put the Rockets firmly in control of the game the rest of the way to close out the series 4-0.

"Nothin' we could really do," said a dejected Amare Stoudemire after the sweep. "We had the better record but they were the better team coming in and proved it all series. Losing someone like Steve (Nash) was just too big a hit to take; it's just too bad our run had to end like this." Stoudemire finished his last game of the season with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 blocks and a steal.

The Rockets' Marvin Williams did a terrific job controlling the glass and neutralizing Shawn Marion. Backing his bold prediction of a sweep shortly after game 3, Williams confidently told media after the match that tonight's victory was, "never in doubt."

Williams' exceptional play would net a double-double 11 points, 2 assists and game-high 14 rebounds while Marion would tally 15 points, 8 rebounds to finish the night.

With the outcome in control, McGrady and Ming received a standing ovation and embraced as they left the floor in the closing minutes, having finally accomplished together what McGrady could not in six previous attempts - getting past the opening round. The two were giddy with excitement as they watched and cheered their teammates from the sidelines and the final seconds trickled away.

Asked how he felt after finally getting past the 1st-round hurdle after six past tries, McGrady with an expression of both relief and elation said, "It's just an incredible feeling, man. I didn't want it to end as I sat there on the bench cheering for my guys. Now that we're here, I don't want it to end."

Yao Ming earned "Player of the Game" honors and led Houston with 6 assists, while collecting 16 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks.

After the game head coach Phil Jackson addressed the media, "The team really came together tonight and played their best game of the series. I'm really happy for our guys, especially Tracy, who's been coming up short and carrying tremendous expectations on his shoulders for years now. With this pressure out of the way, now we can get down to business."

Houston begins its adventure into long unfamiliar territory Wednesday night in the Western Conference Semi-Finals versus Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony and the 2nd-ranked powerhouse Denver Nuggets, who also closed out their series 4-0 against the 7th-seeded Sacramento Kings earlier today.

You made it!!!!!! :headbang: Great job, Yao and Tracy finally in the 2nd round. It´s going to be tough against Nuggets, your currently 2-1 against them this season, so I think you could do it. Hasn´t posted here for a while now, but I still consider your dynasty the best active dynasty. I really love your template.
Keep it going (Y)

BTW, Philly made it to 2nd round :headbang:

Hooray! You finally made it! Its about time T-Mac makes the second round. Good luck against Denver. Unless their starting PG is out, it will be a tough one.

lol @ Peja averaging 27 PPG.

Nice job getting T-Mac and your Rockets into the Second Round! Looks like something was up with the #6 seeds this year as both you and NJ made it from that spot. I also find it funny that none of the other series' were even close with the exception of Philly-Toronto. Keep going though! 8-)

Nice job man getting them out of the first round. Where'd you get that picture of them throwing up the peace signs? haha. And I feel like you played these games, a sweep? damn. Also why did D-Will come off the bench, no matter how you spin it, there was no reason to start Knight over him...

ratrac - great to hear from ya man; thx for chiming in! actually we're 3-1 vs DEN somehow (see '2nd Round Preview' coming up) but looking at what their starting 5 is doing currently in the Playoffs is just nuts. anyway, stay tuned and yeah, Philly coming back from 2 down - not too shabby at all (Y)

lamrock - was a long road wasn't it? but thx for tracking man, makes it worthwhile; unfortunately AI isn't injured so it's gonna be a tough one for sure, especially with Graham out of the pic and no one to slowdown JR Smith. Peja? must've found some balls somewhere in the 'virtual' world since he doesn't have 'em in real life ;)

almightyx - will definitely be something if HOU meets NJN in the Finals eh? actually injuries played a huge role just like in real life so i'm not too surprised by the outcomes; a 2nd round preview is coming up so thx for following

chaser7- thx man and yah the Yao/TMac 'round 2' pic is a hoot - just googled it off the internet; CPU v CPU for all of them and was pretty surprised PHO couldn't pull out a single W, but then again without Nash, they just couldn't get goin'; the Knight start caught me off guard as i forgot Graham's injury and didn't bother to check the new CPU-situated starting 5; but once the game starts there are no undos, redos or startovers regardless of what occurs so i just let it run

anyway, appreciate all comments folks and stay tuned for a preview of Round 2...

Western Conference Semi-Finals Preview

HORNETS vs SPURS
Regular Season Matchup
ImageCP3's Injury. This series would be radically different if not for the loss of rising star, Chris Paul. CP3 continues to recover from a bone spur in his foot (upgraded from broken bone) but will he return in time to be a factor?

Shoot the Lights Out. Without Paul, Peja Stojakovic and Michael Redd must continue shine for the Hornets to have any chance of winning the series as the duo combined is averaging just shy of 50 points per game so far in the playoffs. However, with a defensive stopper like Bowen covering Peja and the 'Flopking', Ginobili, forcing Redd into foul trouble, it will be tough to maintain their shooting efficiency.

The Vet vs the Rookie. Tim Duncan IS the Spurs, plain and simple. So far Duncan's averaging roughly 29 points, 12 boards and 3 assists in the playoffs and shows no sign of letting up. He'll be facing rookie, Roshown Lewis, the Hornets' 16th overall pick from Kinshasa, Zaire who surprised everyone by being named All-Rookie 1st Team averaging 12 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 assists during the regular season. His numbers have tapered slightly in the playoffs and are expected to drop even further against the wily Duncan.
___

ROCKETS vs NUGGETS
Regular Season Matchup
Image
Key Injuries. The Rockets take a blow with the loss of scrappy Shooting Guard, Joey Graham; will Phil Jackson run McGrady at SG to try and slow down the hyperactive J.R. Smith or keep him on 'Melo? Denver hasn't seemed fazed despite the injury to reserve Center, Nene, as Marcus Camby has stepped up his game big time but can Camby maintain his high output vs an elite center like Yao?

The Camby Factor. Camby's numbers so far in the playoffs are actually better than Ming's in every category, which could spell bad news for Rockets fans. Should Camby continues his solid production and shut Yao down, it could pose serious problems for Houston's offense which primarily runs inside-out through their big man.

Offense vs Defense. Denver's quick-strike offense and ability to move the ball and score from all positions will be a true test for the Rockets' defense, which the crippled Suns weren't able to overpower.

Jackson vs Karl. Despite the Nuggets high-powered offense, Houston has managed to best them 3-1 during the regular season which leads many people to point at the Coaches, Phil Jackson and George Karl. The zen master had enough wisdom to get the Rockets over the 1st-round hump; now does he have enough tricks up his sleeve to out-coach big George?

Eastern Conference Semi-Finals Preview

CAVALIERS vs PISTONS
Regular Season Matchup
Image
Can't Do It Alone. LeBron James has been a one-man-wrecking-crew for Cleveland averaging roughly 27 points, 6 boards, 6 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals during the Playoffs. But if the regular season is any indicator, he'll have his work cut out for him as the Cavs only achieved 1 win in 4 attempts against the new 'Bad Boys' of Detroit. Can the King carry his rag-tag group of role players to the promise lands?

The Experience Factor. Seasoned veteran Chauncey Billups and Co. are on a mission after losing the NBA Finals to Phoenix last season in 6 games. If they can stay healthy, the Pistons may be looking at a return trip to the NBA Finals.
__

NETS vs SIXERS

Regular Season Matchup
Image
There's Always Hope. Jason Kidd has divorce matters with Joumana behind him and is now expecting a child with girlfriend model, Hope Dworaczyk. Kidd is playing inspired, All-Star basketball and when you look at her, can you blame him? The revitalized Kidd has been phenomenal in the Playoffs thus far averaging 27 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals per game. He's the 'everything man' for Jersey right now; should he go down for any reason, it would be as disastrous as Nash's loss for the recently dethroned ex-champs.

"D" for Dalembert. The 76ers showed their resilience, battling back from a 2-0 deficient against the Toronto Raptors in the first round and Center, Samuel Dalembert, had everything to do with it when the switch was made in game 3 for him to cover Allstar, Chris Bosh. Flustered by Dalembert's defense, the 76ers turned the series around and came out on top.

Dalembert, has had a breakout season anchoring the 76ers in the post and was awarded 2nd-Team All NBA as well as 2nd-Team All Defense this year. His terrific play continues into the playoffs where he's been averaging 18 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks nightly.

With both teams injury-free and fairly evenly matched, look for this series to be a long, drawn out war of attrition.

It's the greatest dynasty in the forum. I saw that thing at 2007 year when you wanted to get yourself Artest it was funny as now Rockets have Artest :D :D I like the playoff presentations at the end it's great (GIf stuff )

anyways good luck ;)

Congrats on making it to the second round :D .

Virtual Denver stats look more realistic than the real Nuggets’ stats this past season/playoff. Good luck!

Off topic: Vince Carter averaging 9.0 PPG :? .

Recap and playoff preview look great.

P-Bo - thx man, yah Artest goes FA next season i think in my dynasty unfortunately and i've no room to sign him in the off-season currently; i'll see which team he goes to or if he just resigns with SAC; might still be able to swing a deal for him tradewise but would have to give up key players; anyway, still this season to play out so won't worry about that ;)

OMagic/JMS - thx the preview was fun (as there was only 4 teams to evaluate hahah); Virtual Nuggets are F'n scary... TMac and Yao definitely have their work cut out for them; Vinsanity is slackin' which is weird as his ratings are still better than most

anyway, readers and their comments are always appreciated (Y) unfortunately i am SWAMPED with a project crunch right now but will hopefully get to the HOU v DEN game 1 sometime this week

GAME RECAP

DENVER (AP) -- The Denver Nuggets relied on a lesser-known aspect of their team's arsenal - tough defense - to help cruise to 95-87 victory over the Houston Rockets in their opening game of the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

"We're mostly known for our offense," said Nuggets' team co-captain, Allen Iverson, "but tonight we showed everyone we're not only about scoring; we can play 'D' too."

But initially the Nuggets would have no answer for Houston's All-Star swingman, Tracy McGrady, who started out blistering hot in his first-ever game past the 1st round after 10 pro seasons.

Given the offensive green light, McGrady torched any would-be defenders for 17-points in the 1st quarter, 27 by halftime and seemed poised for a 50+ night. But despite T-Mac's unstoppable offensive display his teammates would be kept in check, giving Denver a 49-45 edge to start the third.

McGrady would look to get his teammates involved after the break as the Nuggets' defense locked-down on him anytime he touched the ball. Yao Ming, who had struggled against Marcus Camby in the first half, would find his rhythm in the second to help close the gap and rookie, Garrick 'the Marksman' Briggs would nail a trey at the 2:06 mark giving the Rockets their first lead of the game at 66-64 after trailing the entire way.

Though the Nuggets would trail by 1 to start the 4th, their swarming defense and control of the boards would dominate the rest of the match leading to several uncontested fast break opportunities at the offensive end.

Back-up Point Guard, Antonio Daniels, shined against the Rockets' reserves and led a surge to recapture the lead 75-71 but Denver's man-of-the-night was none other than "the Answer", Allen Iverson.

Like a skilled surgeon, Iverson dissected Houston's supposedly impregnable defense, creating easy baskets for his teammates at will and finishing with a double-double 17 point, 10 assists on the night.

"Relentless man," said Deron Williams following the game. "He just keeps attacking whether on offense or defense; probably would for the full 48 if coach (George) Karl didn't sub him out." Williams struggled under Iverson's defense with 3-of-9 shooting from the field but nearly managed a double-double of his own with 9 points and 9 assists.

McGrady led the way offensively for Houston with 36 points while collecting 2 rebounds, assists and steals. But a brilliant first half would be overshadowed by an abysmal 4th quarter, where Carmelo Anthony's eclipsing defense would limit him to just 12% off 1-of-8 shooting.

"Coach told me just stay in from of him and keep a hand in his face at all times," said Anthony who finished the evening with 17 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

In another key matchup, Marcus Camby's speed and quickness would also prove problematic for Houston's slower-footed Yao Ming. By night's end, Camby would tally 12 points, 16 rebounds and 2 blocks to Yao's 15 points, 9 boards, 2 assists and 4 blocks.

But Denver's head coach, George Karl, down-played the victory and focused more on team improvements. "It's just one game and I'm not satisfied with what we showed out there. Our offense sputtered - what'd we have anyway? I know it wasn't over 100. We can play better than this; until we do, I won't be satisfied."

"They're a big, active and athletic team and really had their way down the stretch tonight," said Rockets' head coach, Phil Jackson. "We were in good position but couldn't get it done. That's all I have to say about that. We'll check out the tape, make some adjustments and hopefully be ready for game 2."

Houston will look to even the series here again in Denver on Friday night.

thx all for your comments and chaser, yah like martti said, box scores aint possible during playoff games whether before you exit and not even during the game; you can get player stats but their averages for the playoffs and not individual game breakdowns like the reg season; it's one of the few gripes i have about live '06 but still prefer it over any of the others

GAME RECAP

Nuggets Control Glass, Control Series

DENVER (AP) -- The visiting Houston Rockets put forth a valiant effort but could not prevent the Denver Nuggets from seizing a 107-104 victory and commanding 2-0 lead in the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

The teams battled even through three quarters with neither team able to gain more than a single-digit advantage but in the final quarter the Nuggets' stronger, more athletic frontcourt ultimately gave Denver the winning edge.

Kenyon Martin and Marcus Camby dominated the paint combining for a total of 31 points and 29 of the Nuggets' 41 total rebounds, 16 of which came off the offensive glass. Both masters of the quick-hitting, long outlet pass, the imposing tandem ignited several fast-break opportunities for their cherry-picking teammates throughout the night.

Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming led the way for Houston but McGrady was hampered with early foul trouble and spent half the night watching from the sidelines. Yao, while able to get things going offensively with 23 points, was contained off the boards and held to 5 rebounds on the night. McGrady finished with 25 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists but saw only 23 minutes of court time.

In the 4th quarter, Houston did have an opportunity to steal the game despite Denver's frontcourt edge, as they managed to hover within striking range and trailed 102-103 with possession of the ball and 22 seconds left on the game clock. After a full timeout by head coach, Phil Jackson, the Rockets seems poised and ready to take the lead; but a critical mental lapse and questionable judgement by point guard, Deron Williams, proved to be the costly difference maker.

Williams managed to recover the loose ball after Allen Iverson deflected McGrady's inbound pass; however, with their set-play broken, Williams elected to hoist a difficult three-point attempt while heavily guarded going for the win with 16.7 seconds, instead of resetting the offense and trying to get the ball inside to Yao or back to McGrady who had the hot hand in the quarter.

D-Will's brick clanked hard off the rim and was secured by Camby who, in turn, was fouled with 12.9 remaining. Camby calmly drilled both free-throws and after Houston's final time out, Yao converted a quick alley-oop to pull the Rockets again within one at 104-105. But Iverson, to the crowd's deafening chant of, "MVP!" knocked down a final two free-throws to seal the win.

"I'm not sure what he (Williams) was thinking," said a Iverson with a chuckle after the contest. "Broken play, time tickin' away, I was all over him - he panicked. It's an 'experience' thing, know what I'm sayin'? He'll replay that situation, that shot in his head a long, long time… but hey, we'll take it."

Iverson finished the night with 15 points, 6 assists and 4 steals while Williams collected 6 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals but was unavailable for comment after the game.

The series now shifts to Houston where coach Jackson and the Rockets will attempt to regroup and hold serve or face a daunting, if not impossible, road ahead.
