Joe Johnson drawing the foul against Tyson Chandler early in the first half

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- The Suns were on the verge of a huge upset against the Bulls tonight, as the game was close throughout the entire night. Chicago started out the first quarter making their first 6 shots and the Suns trailed by as many as 11 points in the quarter. "They caught us off guard and we were coming into the game over confident," Suns point guard Steve Nash said. Nash had by far his worse game of the early season, shooting 4-15 from the field, 1-6 from downtown for 14 points and dished out 6 assists.

The biggest name in tonight's game was Quentin Richardson who scored a season-best 35 points and shot 6-6 from 3 point range. "He was on fire, and we really needed him to come alive with the way the Bulls came out early against us," Amare Stoudemire said. The backcourt of Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon combined for 39 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds. The young duo did some damage to the Suns defense. The Bulls were the first team this season to reach over 90 points against the Suns. "We played very hard out there tonight without Curry. We put in a great effort, but the Suns showed their offensive awareness which helped them at the end of the game," Bulls coach Scott Skiles said.

Tyson Chandler, who replaced the injured Eddy Curry in the starting lineup tonight played very well. Chandler was five rebounds shy of his career-high as he grabbed 17 rebounds against the Suns and scored 15 points on 6-11 shooting. "It was my duty to go out there and fill in the missing void of Eddy," Chandler said. "We just had to play the game without him and I wanted to make sure I did my part to help the team come up with the win, but we fail a little short." The Bulls are 2-1 for the season and are playing very well as a team. Phoenix is now 4-0 for the season and will play at Cleveland against the Cavaliers tomorrow night on ESPN.

GAME NOTES:The Suns outscored the Bulls 79-62 after the first quarter ended where the Bulls was up 30-22 over the Suns. Quentin Richardson made a season-best six three pointers from the field and was two shy of tying his career-high of 8 three pointers. Other than Richardson, the Suns starting 4 combined for 19-61 from the field in the game.

tough game against the bulls but way to stay undefeated! they did have an extremely easy schedule, things should get interesting when you play the upper echelon teams.

SUNS VS. CAVALIERS
Gund Arena, Cleveland, 6:00 p.m., PST

TV, radio: ESPN; KTAR 620
Records: Suns, 4-0; Cavaliers, 2-2

KEY MATCHUP: PHOENIX SUNS VS. LEBRON JAMES
In order for the Suns to be successful in this game, they must contain Lebron. He does so much for his team as he is 1st on his team in PPG (23.0), APG (6.3) and is 2nd on his team in RPG (9.8). You may see alot of Shawn Marion on Lebron tonight, because of his length, along with Quentin Richardson and Joe Johnson.

INSIDE THE SUNS
The Suns could be a whopping 5-0 after tonight's game against the Cavaliers. They ar 2nd in the Western Conference with a 4-0 record behind the 5-0 Mavericks. The frontcourt of Marion and Stoudemire have done a solid job, despite not having a big man inside. Marion is averaging 18.5ppg and 10rpg for Phoenix, while Stoudemire is averaging 20.5ppg and a career-best 11rpg.

INSIDE THE CAVALIERS
The 2-2 Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to make the playoffs this season, after coming very close to it last season. Lebron has added more to his game, while Jeff McInnis is becoming a huge factor for them. McInnis is vaeraging a career-best 15.8ppg for Cleveland and he has found a home with the Cavs.

OTHER NOTES:This game will wrap up the Phoenix Suns 4-game road trip as they will come home to face the Sacramento Kings on Saturday, after a 3 day rest from their road trip.

Lebron James flirted with a triple double, as he led his Cavaliers to their 3rd win of the season

CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) -- There is no word to define Lebron James other than magnificient. His game flourished tonight as he helped his team close out the Phoenix Suns and end their four-game winning streak. Lebron's 22 point, 10 rebound and 8 assist performance topped the Suns as he did many things in the first half that gave Phoenix problems. "He takes his game to another level when things aren't going well for the team. That's what he did in the 2nd half," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said.

The Cavaliers led early at the end of the each quarter in the first half. Surprisingly, they scored 38 points in the first quarter on the Suns who only were able to put up 27 points. The early lead that the Cavaliers established basically set the tone throughout the entire game for Cleveland. At the end of the first half, the Suns were down 66-52. "This is something that coach stressed us about, and that was being able to start games the way we end them. When we get down so many points, it is sometimes hard to make a comeback, especially if were not hitting shots," Suns forward Shawn Marion said. The Suns did shoot well in the game with 52% from the field, but the Cavaliers outhustled the hot Suns team.

Marion had a game-high 31 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists. "There were alot of little things that hurt us in the game," Coach D'Antoni said. "They made 19 out of their 21 free throw attempts, while we made 17 out of our 20 attempts. They were also plus 3 in the assist category against us, which is something we do really well in." Jeff McInnis, who the Suns were mainly focused on at the start of the game ended up with a big game. He scored a team-high 24 points for the Cavaliers, while dishing out 8 assists. With Stoudemire being in foul trouble with 5 fouls, there was nothing the Suns could do with Ilgauskas and Gooden who combined for 35 points and 14 rebounds.

Phoenix will now head home to face the Sacramento Kings on Saturday after they take three days off from the road trip. The Suns were able to go 3-1 on the road trip and they are now 4-1 in the season.

KINGS VS. SUNS
American West Arena, Phoenix, 7:00 p.m., PST

TV, radio: FSAZ; KTAR 620
Records: Kings, 2-3; Suns, 4-1

KEY MATCHUP: SHAWN MARION VS. CHRIS WEBBER
This will be an interesting matchup tonight. Webber can do it all as he stands at 6'10" and can make jumpshots. He can also pass the ball like a point guard. Marion has the ability to play the PF position, though he is a small forward. His athletic ability will give him somewhat an advantage over Webber.

INSIDE THE KINGS
Sacramento is holding a 2-3 record and they aren't the same as they were last season. They have played four road games and only one home game at the start of the season. Unfortunately, they lost that home game to the Toronto Raptors. The Kings are the only team to have their starting five averaging four or more assists per game.

INSIDE THE SUNS
The Suns four game winning streak was snapped a few days ago by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Suns have also played four road games and one home game so far this season. Their last home game was on November 3, 2004 in their season opener vs. the Hawks where they won 120-81.

Late Game Heroics Gave Suns the Victory
Joe Johnson had the biggest game of the season

Stoudemire and the Suns had their biggest game of the season against the Kings

PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) -- The Kings were heart struck after the 92-91 loss to the Suns. Both of the high-powered offensive teams had terrible shooting nights, but it was enough scoring for the Suns to get the win. "We fought our way through this game and JJ came up big for us," Suns coach Mike D' Antoni said.

Joe Johnson scored a season-high 24 points on 10-19 shooting. With 10.3 seconds left in the game, he had the hottest hand for the Suns. "We decided in the huddle that he was going to be the one to take the last shot," Coach D' Antoni said. After Quentin Richardson inbounded the ball to Nash, Johnson ran around the perimeter to get an open shot. Doug Christie came over late enough to give Johnson some breathing room on the shot and the ball fell through the nylon. "The shot I took was something I was doing all game, and that was taken 17 and 18 foot junmpers," Johnson said. "So I wasn't surprised to get the shot again."

Luckily for the Suns, Peja Stoajkovic had one of his worse nights every since becoming an all-star in the NBA. Stojakovic shot 2-13 from the field and 0-7 from 3 point-range. He was only able to score 8 points in 39 minutes ofp lay. "We played good defense on him tonight. Just to think if he had one of his usual nights, we could've been in alot of trouble," Suns guard Casey Jacobsen said. Doug Christie did feel in the shoes for Peja, as he scored 20 points in the game.

The Suns head back on the road as they face the Dallas Mavericks who are 6-1 through the season and have the best record in the Western Conference.

SUNS VS. MAVERICKS
American Airlines Arena, Dallas, 5:00 p.m., PST

TV, radio: FSAZ; KTAR 620
Records: Suns, 5-1; Mavericks, 7-1

KEY MATCHUP: JOE JOHNSON VS. MICHAEL FINLEY
Johnson is coming off his best game of the season against the Sacramento Kings. He was also able to make the game winning shot. Michael Finley is having another great season in Dallas averaging a team-best 23.8ppg. Both of these players can shoot lights out from the field.

INSIDE THE SUNS
After losing their first game of the season against the Cavaliers, the Suns came back with vegeance against the Kings. The blood-thirty Kings were ready to get the win on Saturday night, but Joe Johnson spoiled the fun. The Suns are now having one of the best starts in franchise history. This iwll be Steve Nash's first game against his old team back in Dallas.

INSIDE THE MAVERICKS
Dallas hasn't missed a beat since last season as they hold the best record in the Western Conference. Dirk Nowitzki is averaging a double-double for the Mavs with 20.5ppg and 10.5rpg. Dallas has been searching for a starting point guard as they experienced with Terry, Armstrong and rookie Devin Harris. Jason Terry has started 7 out of the Mavs 8 games and is averaging 14.4ppg and 4.5apg.

Suns Lose In Tragic Way
After winning by one, the Suns lose by one

ImageSuns-95

Steven Hunter and the Suns almost had the Mavs winning streak snapped

DALLAS, Texas (AP) -- After the Phoenix Suns lost to the Mavericks 96-95, Joe Johnson remembered the game winning shot he made Saturday night vs. the Kings. "It's amazing how we just won a game off a game winning shot, then the next game we lose by a game winning shot," Johnson said. Talk about bad luck...

Phoenix once again had a bad first half, which put them in one of the worse scenarios. They were down 10 points at teh end of the first half against a 7-1 Mavericks team on the road. "This is something I preached to the players each and everyday and that's establish an early lead in games," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "It has happened too many times, and we can't do this against the elite teams in the league." After being down 10, the Suns made a run at the end of the 3rd quarter as they outscored the Mavericks 32-23 and were down 77-78 heading into the final period.

In the 4th quarter, each team shot below 45% from the field, but they managed to stay with each other bucket after bucket. In the final 30 seconds of the game, Phoenix decided to go back to Johnson. Nash held the ball all the way down to where the clock had 8 seconds left, then he passed it to Johnson for the same play they ran aginst the Kings and he nailed the jumper to put the Suns up 95-93. The shot gave Johnson a team-high 25 points for the game. The Mavericks called a timeout to advance the ball upcourt with 6.8 seconds left. Josh Howard inbounded the ball to Dirk who was doubled, then he passed it to Terry as he heaved a 3p ointer at the top of the key and made it with 0.7 seconds left.

The Suns used their last timeout of the game and Johnson shot a quick jumper from the corner that rimmed short. Phoenix will head to New Orleans tomorrow night to face the Hornets. The Mavericks now move to 8-1 on the season, while the Suns are 5-2.

SUNS VS. HORNETS
American Airlines Arena, Dallas, 5:00 p.m., PST

TV, radio: UPN45; KTAR 620
Records: Suns, 5-2; Hornets, 5-1

KEY MATCHUP: STEVE NASH VS. BARON DAVIS
The two point guards are very different from each other, but both of them make their team that much better when they're on the court. Baron leads his team in PPG and APG with 21.5ppg and 7.8apg. Nash leads thel eague in APG with 9.4 through 7 games. Nash is more of a passing point guard and likes to penetrate and give the ball to open players, while Baron likes to take players one on one and try to draw contact when he penetrates.

INSIDE THE SUNS
Every since losing their first game, the Suns are 1-2 in their last 3 games. They had a tough loss to the Mavs after Terry made a game-winning 3-pointer. Phoenix is 3rd in the league in FG%, shooting 46%, 7th in the league in 3P% with 41%, and 1st in the league in FT% with 87%.

INSIDE THE HORNETS
The Hornets are a whopping 5-1 this season after moving to the Western Conference from last season. They have caught some teams by surprise and are letting teams know to not take them lightly. After losing their home opener to Dallas, they have won 5 straight beating two Western Conference teams and three Eastern Conference teams.

Phoenix Come Back With Vegeance
After going through two close games, the Suns blow out Hornets

Suns coach Mike D'Antoni was pleased with the first half effort by the Suns

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AP) -- The Suns wasted no time in this game as they wanted to start off on the fastest pace they possibly could. After losing a heart breaker to the Mavericks, Phoenix knew they had to come into New Orleans and win a game. They were able to hold the Hornets to just 13 points in the first quarter, while they went for 24 points, and they outscored the Hornets in every quarter throughout the game.

Phoenix amazingly had three players with 20+ points in the game with Steve Nash leading the way with 25 points and 11 assists. "There was nothing stopping us this game. We knew we had to come in and win and we did exactly that," Nash said after the game. Despite the Suns bench only scoring a total of 3 points the entire game, the starters did enough to put blow out the now 5-2 Hornets.

The Hornets were stunned on offense as they only had two players score in double figures and they only shot 31% from the field and 2-19 from 3-point range. The only offensive threat the Hornets had tonight was Jamaal Magloire who went 8-10 from the field for 18 points and 8 rebounds. New Orleans backcourt of Baron Davis and David Wesley combined for 5-30 shooting from the field which caused the Hornets to score just over 60 points in the game. "We just shot horrible from the field in this game. We haven't played like this none this season and this game made us wake up and smell the coffee," Wesley said. Amare Stoudemire tied his career-high in rebounds with 21 agains the Hornets as he had 5 offensive rebounds.

GAME NOTES:The Suns outrebounded the Hornets 56-48 in the game and also shot 43% from the field compared to the Hornets 31%. Tonight was the first game that any Sun had 20 and 20 this season, which Amare had 20 points and 21 rebounds. Richardson had a terrible game scoring only 5 points and grabbing 6 rebounds on 2-10 shooting from the field.
