[DENVER, Jan. 20] – With less than 2 seconds left Carmelo Anthony received the ball and his team down by two to the Utah Jazz, and held the game in his hands. He went up, and watched his shot sail over the hands of defender Andrei Kirilenko… but clank, and after another missed tip-in by center Marcus Camby, the game was over and Anthony was left to think about what he could have done and how he would love to have that shot back again.

Today’s game was just not the Nuggets day, as they fell behind by double-digits and had to claw their way back every quarter. What made it more frustrating was that the Jazz were not even playing their starters, thus giving the bench more than half of the game. The Jazz’s Wang Zhizhi was a surprise off the bench with 14 points, including 3-3 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Darko Milicic was another spark, putting in 8 points while grabbing a team high 7 boards and mustering 3 blocks. Other players to score double digits were Kirilenko, who led the game with 20, and Gordon Giricek and Deron Williams, each with 10.

The scoring on the other side was very balanced, with every Nuggets starter scoring double-digits; Marcus Camby had the only double-double of the game with 12 points and 14 rebounds, Andre Miller came close with 14 points and 9 assists.

Near the end of the game the Nuggets turned on the pressure and forced several key turnovers, one important one was after Kenyon Martin’s airball, in which guard Lenard grabbed the ball from Deron Williams and drained a three that drew the team within 3. However in the end things did not work out and the Jazz still manage to remain the only team in the NBA with single digit loss; however they are only 3.5 games ahead of the pack now.

“What can I say? We are grateful for the win and again we showed that sometimes we let teams get back into it, we need to stop that. We’ve got Cleveland tomorrow, and they remember that game we had before, and we can’t let them do the same thing that Denver did to us, which was kill us with their cutting and swinging during the comeback,” said player of the game Andrei Kirilenko.

[SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 21] – When the media received the staring lineup for tonight’s game, there was a question at hand, where in the world was guard Larry Hughes? Turns out Hughes encountered some back spasms when he got up from tripping over a basketball earlier in practice and will be held out for tonight’s game against the Jazz. Without Hughes, Lebron James moved to shooting guard while Donyell Marshall filled in at the small forward spot.

The Cavs were just not the same team without Hughes as they let the Jazz run and get ahead of them, despite managing to claw back. In the 2nd quarter the Jazz put in their bench, allowing the Cavs to get ahead of them and take the half by one point. However the presence of, or rather lack of, Hughes really cost the Cavs as they began to let up 3 point shots to Gordon Giricek and Wang Zhizhi. Finally in the 4th the Cavs really showed how much they needed Hughes as the Jazz were putting on a defensive clinic. In the end, the Jazz were too much and went away with a easy win.

For the first time in ages the Jazz had two men with double digits in rebounding. Andrew Bogut had 10 boards and 13 points while Udonis Haslem amassed 11 boards and 13 points. Deron Williams also had 15 points and dished out 10 assists. Andrei Kirilenko and Drew Gooden of the Cavs were the high point men with 27 each, Gooden also grabbed 15 boards while Kirilenko had 8. The other man notable was center Zydrunas Ilgauskas with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Andrei Kirilenko: 1
Lebron James: 1 2
Eric Snow: 1
Wang Zhizhi: 1
Deron Williams: 1

[SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 23] – After beating the Cleveland Cavs without breaking a sweat, the Jazz were not prepared for the Nets. The Net’s Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson ran off to 10 and 8 points in the first quarter, and the Nets ran out to a 32-23 lead at the end of the quarter.

However in the 2nd quarter the Jazz’s Gordon Giricek and Andrei Kirilenko led the team on a comeback and won the quarter by 5 points; however center Andrew Bogut picked up 2 more fouls in addition to his 2 in the first and was in trouble. Less than a minute after the start of the 2nd half, Bogut was whistled for his 5th and had to be taken out. The loss of Bogut did not seem to affect the Jazz too much as the bench stepped up, espically Darko Milicic, who again came off the bench to score 10 points, grab 6 boards and block 2 shots. Jarron Collins played well against his twin brother, scoring 8 and also grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing out 3 assist. The big story was however Jeff McInnis, who went 0-7 and scored no points, but dished out 10 assists for 2nd place on the team, only to Deron Williams’s 12 points and 11 assists. Kirilenko also put in 26 points and 10 rebounds.

Jason Kidd led the Nets in the last quarter, draining 2 three pointers to draw the Nets within two with less than 6 seconds. The Jazz were fouled, but Giricek missed his first shot, but made the 2nd for a 3 point lead. The Nets called timeout and the ball was given to Cliff Robinson, the best 3-point shooter on the team and he let it fly with .5 of a second left, yet it clanked off the rim.

The player of the game was Andrei Kirilenko with his double-double. “It would have been nothing if we didn’t win. We crawled back, but they stuck hard, and on that last shot we had Cliff guarded pretty tight, and the miss came our way.” – Kirilenko said.

The game went into overtime on Jason Kidd's missed 3-pointer.

Andrei Kirilenko: 1 2
Vince Carter: 1
Jarron Collins: 1
Darko Milicic: 1 2
Richard Jefferson: 1 2 3
Jason Kidd: 1
Cliff Robinson: 1
Miscellaneous: 1 2 3

[SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 25] – In yet another western shooting involving the Jazz, Ray Allenhad a chance to win, just like the Nugget’s Carmelo Anthony and the Nets’ Cliff Robinson. With less than 5 seconds left Allen’s shot missed off the front him, but he tracked the ball down and swung it to point guard Luke Ridnour, who attempted the game winning layup, then out of nowhere the Jazz’s backup forward Wang Zhizhi came out and blocked Ridnour’s efforts out of bounds just as the buzzer sounded.

The game stared as tightly as the tension between the two teams, who have developed a rivalry, as several of the league’s most exciting games have been played between these two teams. The first and second quarter was very tight as the Jazz won the first quarter while the Sonics took the 2nd to go into the break tied at 62 each.

The 3rd and 4th quarter was just as high scoring as the two teams tied again. The Sonics went off on a huge run, but the Jazz clawed back because of Andrei Kirilenko, Deron Williams, and Jeff McInnis’ hot shooting. Allen also had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but his shot bounced several times before falling off. The overtime period was dominated by Mehmet Okur and Williams, who constantly matched Allen and Ridnour’s big shots. However in the end the Jazz managed to get a lead and Zhizhi came up huge.

The Jazz will go face the first team they defeated in the season, the Dallas Mavericks on December 28.

Ray Allen: 1
Andrew Bogut: 1
Nick Collison: 1
Andrei Kirilenko: 1
Wang Zhizhi: 1
