okay, I chose to play on Wednesday night league....they have Tuesday and Wednesday night leagues....there are 3 divisions (it was 2, now they have split it to 3)....I didn't get to choose a division, they just put me in a team with an open spot....unfortunately because we started the season so crap and with 4 players most games, we lost a lot of close games, so we are now in bottom division....only bright side is that we should win it....funnily enough, if we had a consistent team each week, got a little fitter and everyone understood their roles, then I think we could hang with the 1st divison teams ....the pace of the league isn't super fast....it's probably at a higher level than high school....there are a few good players in the league and they clearly stand out....I think they are players who are usually filling in for teams that are short, or just helping out the team....I'm one of the better players in the league, but I probably don't stand out because I'm a team player who grabs boards, sets screens, makes good passes and scores in the flow of the offense....meaning that I could play on a good team and fit in the same way as I do now....the league I'm in is very disorganised, and to tell you the truth, if I do move out your way, I'll be happier to play in a higher quality league which is (hopefully) better organised....

I doubt that....they just shot poorly....most of my boards were defensive....boxed out and secured them....only about 4 or 5 of them would have been offensive....on the season I probably only average 10rpg....considering the poor shooting %, that's an average effort....

the main thing I was happy with on the night was my passing....I was making good entry passes (whether bounce passes or lob entries over the fronting defender), crisp bounce passes through traffic or long lead passes that hit the spot....definitely is great feeling making a great pass, especially when it's converted into a basket

Thanks for the info X. From my playign experience of two years in club, the league is pretty well organised I guess. Well, I hope that our U20's is sorta like urs, skillwise. I really want our team to do decently and hope my guys can win a few games just to keep their confidence up. Well, if you do move out towards the Westside , then make sure you tell me what night your team will play so that I can get my team in the same divsion next year.

Form what I've seen on the nomination forms, senior teams can play on Sundays, Mondays or Tuesdays. Are you on a team with your mates?

About the good guys, I feel ya! When ur in a league like the ones we play in, there is a huge imbalance between the awesome, the good/decent and the bad guys. Yeh, I understand when you say u can tell. What pisses me off most of the time is when the other team double teams u cause they know ur the only guy who can handle the ball. Well, I guess your lucky ur 6'2"... its a good advantage unless ur guards cant get u the rock.

IT'S A DONE DEAL - PATTERSON DEALT AT 11TH HOUR OF TRADE DEADLINE

After a failed attempt to pry Kiwi forward Sean Marks off the Spurs (ex-Spur Charles "Spider" Smith wasn't enough to get the deal done), the Blazers instead turned their attentions to unloading disgruntled forward Ruben Patterson. A deal came at the 11th hour of the February 23rd trade deadline as the Portland Trailblazers sent guard Juan Dixon and Ruben Patterson to the Toronto Raptors for swingman Morris Peterson and forward Aaron Williams.

Let's analyse this trade from both sides.

Portland receives:


G/F Morris Peterson was the major piece of this trade and a player that the Blazers coveted. Peterson is an athletic, rangey lefty who brings strong play at both ends of the court. At 6'7" Mo Peterson can play both the SG and SF positions, although he is likely to start for the Blazers at SG. Peterson has only 2 years at $4.5 mill per season left on his deal, so it gives the Blazers plenty of flexibility to see if he will fit into their grand plans to revitalise this franchise.

I believe the Blazers were very unhappy with Juan Dixon's production (about 10ppg at 35% FG, 30% 3pt) and did not like starting an undersized SG against opposing team's star players. The Blazers were fortunate that Mo Peterson has also had a rocky start to his season (about 9ppg at 36% FG) that led to the Raptors dealing him. Portland believes his slow start to the season is an abberation, and that Peterson can improve and be a key player at the SG position. This trade also signifies that the Blazers don't believe that either Sergei Monia or Martell Webster are anywhere near ready to be receiving meaningful minutes at the SG position.

The Blazers also got bigman Aaron Williams, who the Raptors got in the infamous Carter to New Jersey trade. Williams is in the final year of his contract and is likely going to be released as the Blazers look to give Khyrapa and Seung-Jin more minutes as the season winds down. With Williams' contract (about $3.5mill) coming off the books, it opens up some extra money to re-sign promising bigman Joe "Przy-bizz" Przybilla this off-season.

The final part of the deal for the Blazers was the unloading of disgruntled forward Ruben Patterson who they were trying to move for the last month. Whilst Patterson was always a strong contributor for the Blazers, it was his off-court demeanours that caused the franchise the most pain. I think the Blazers will be happy to see the back of Patterson and his $6.5mill per year salary off the books.

Toronto receives:


Toronto added more depth with this trade and unloaded disgruntled forward Aaron Williams and underperforming Morris Peterson. With the development of Joey Graham at both the SF and SG position, and the reliable play of Jalen Rose, the Raptors thought that Peterson was expendable. I believe the Raptors looked at combo guard Juan Dixon as a player who could come off the bench and spark the team's offense from either guard position. Dixon is better suited to a 6th man role than he is starting in the league so this could prove to be a good move.

The Raptors also gained some veteran toughness in Ruben Patterson, which is something they haven't really had since a couple of guys by the name of Charles Oakley and Antonio Davis were in town. With Patterson, the Raptors know what they're going to get. They get toughness, consistency and a good defender (a so-called 'Kobe-stopper' in his own words).

Whilst this deal won't have much of a ripple effect on the entire league, this trade could have a positive effect for both franchises. Although the true impact that this trade will have on both teams probably won't be felt for another season or two. But you can understand why it was made as both teams believed they needed to be shaken up to try and turn around their dismal 2005/06 campaigns.

After coming over in the Dixon/Patterson-Peterson trade from Toronto, less than a week later the Portland Trailblazers announced the waiving of forward Aaron Williams. Williams did not appear in any games for the Blazers and the team's coaching staff thought it would be better that any backup minutes go to developing their young talent rather than holding onto a veteran like Aaron Williams, who might be better served catching onto a contender who is after a capable bigman.

I'm sure I'm going to get ribbed for the trade, but I felt it was quite a realistic one that helped both teams....I got a better SG which is what I wanted, and the Raptors got more depth....I didn't get the backup PF I wanted (Marks although he would have only been 12th man) but I can always get one later....Khryptonie will have to step in and fill the void I guess I like that I opened up a little bit of cap space for off-season to re-sign Przy-bizz and I cleared some of the logjam at the SF position which will open up more minutes for the likes of Travis Outlaw and Viktor Khryapa, as well as Jarrett Jack who will help out at SG spot and even everyone's favourite Korean will get a little bit of burn

yep, Webster must be in D League at the mo but I plan on re-calling/activating him in April and giving him some burn....I doubt he'll be starting next year....but you never know....I can see him being part of rotation in '06/07 & he should be starting by '07/08....if Mo goes well, he could end up as a 6th man to end his career....I dunno....but glad you like the trade, I guess you inspired it after all shame I couldn't get a 2nd Round pick with the deal but the Raptors didn't bite on that, but ahh well....

Anyways X... might as well tell you how the Fakers' training went! I found out how bad it feels to take a lot of shots... Although my team won 3 of 4 scrimmages (We always changed the teams), I felt real bad because, yes, I did score the majority of the baskets, but whenever I miss or just go in for the shot myself, I feel a lil guilty. I guess it really showed when we lost 17-15 in a first to 11 game. Whenever we were at game point from 12-11 onwards, I always gave the ball up because I felt that it wasn't fair to keep trying to score myself. However, my teammates couldn't score... And everytime the other team wa son gamepoint, I felt it was necesary for me to score and keep our team in the game. I ended up scoring 13 of the team's 15 buckets but you know... I don't know what to do really.

My teammates cant convert and I really don't want to be viewed as 'selfish.' I wanna win and I don't think other teams will let me pass the ball into the key easily; even if my mates miss every shot under the basket. Guess I'm in for a long season. Any tips for me X?

I honestly thought about keeping Aaron but when I realised playoffs were pretty much out of the question and the fact that I had no desire to re-sign him this off-season, I figured I'd prefer to play some of the younger guys and develop them

as for the draft pick, they didn't say they weren't interested in trading draft picks, just that they didn't want to do the deal....funnily enough the deal almost wasn't done as Mo Peterson was injured until, you guessed it, the trade deadline date....

as for your scenario, I think the best thing your team can do is run, run & run....play pressure defense, leak out after defensive rebounds, outlet pass and run....in grade 12, I was only senior on senior bball team, and most of team were n00bs....however the 3 or 4 'veteran' players were the only ones who could score in a halfcourt set, the rest of them learnt to make layups....just drill in them making layups....open, contested, doesn't matter....if you have 2-on-1 fastbreaks, even if they miss, you'll probably get board, and have another opportunity....btw, my high school team won div 2 that year, and the year after I left, won div 1....so my only advice, is to get them to run....when it comes to the half-court game, you can try and get them involved, but in the end, if the team is struggling or stagnant (which they will be - they're n00bs), then you'll have to take the shots or create the opportunities (I was doing that on Wednesday night when team was stagnant in half-court)....

they try & score themselves because they don't know what else to do....I find the thing with n00bs is that they have no patience....if they can keep their heads & not just fire because they don't know what else to do, then the team will be better for it....that's kinda like this Asian guy we had on our team, I'm so glad he didn't show up on Wednesday or we would have lost....he's an idiot....if he gets given the ball, he'll just fire it up, ill-advised, not in the flow of the offense and usually when there is nobody there to grab the offensive rebound (or airball often in his case)

yep, cutting definitely is the key....especially considering you're going with a Motion offense....

fair enough....from a Live perspective I definitely lost out....but I'm looking at it from a perspective of trying to keep the cap down as well....opening up a little bit of cap space for re-signing of Przybilla is worth it....I also did the trade because of the real life disgruntled nature of Patterson....to get a bigger SG and to clear some of the logjam....IRL, if I didn't make a move and a young, developing player like Outlaw contract was getting close to being up, then you would want to open up some minutes for him to persuade him to stay....

I factor in these random real life situations....I couldn't give a shit about how it affects my Live team....I can live with the trade

BLAZERS MONTHLY RECAP - FEBRUARY 2006

All-Star Month wasn't kind to the Blazers as they dropped both games to fall to 5-13 overall, and on a 4-game slide. The losses were disappointing, with a 3pt overtime loss in Miami, and blowing a big 4th quarter lead in LA to lose to the Lakers (sim loss). Once again, it was the young team faltering down the stretch. The team is a dismal 0-5 in games decided by 3pts or less and a pathetic 1-10 in games decided by 10pts or less. That's been the story of this season's Blazers as the team is taking his lumps early and often.

There is reason for optimism and it's not Travis Outlaw's 2nd place at the Slam Dunk Contest. It's the fact that the team has brought in swingman Morris Peterson, who is expected to bring consistent play at the SG position and help defend the opposing team's star SG's. At the moment, the season can't end quick enough for Nate and his team, but a few W's to end it would be nice.

Not much needs to be said about this as they've now both been traded. This was the last game that Dixon and Patterson appeared in before they were dealt. Is it any wonder why both got dealt? I didn't think so.
