MF1on1C ends after much competition by Brent Barry
Hey, for some of you who didn't notice, it's not Sam Rubenstein's name under the title anymore, it's Brent Barry this time. Yes, the legendary Brent Barry. Just kidding. Sam called in sick during the semifinals and since I was a guest during the games at Rucker, Mike (Finley) thought I should do a special guest article for everyone. Sadly, my article won't be as detailed as Sam's as I wasn't taking any notes. So I'm just going to give you some of my thoughts of the game.
Anyway, the first game was between the American Shaun Callahan and the undersized Filipino Joseph Pedrajas. Being undersized and overpowered, Pedrajas kept missing a lot of shots. But with his speed and a lot of determination, He manages to keep up. It was mostly neck and neck between the bigger Callahan and the faster Pedrajas. Down the stretch, with a score of 9-10 in Callahan's favor, Pedrajas manages to hold Callahan down forcing him to take a really bad jumpshot that lead to a miss. Pedrajas then gets the rebound but also misses a jumpshot. Callahan then gets the ball but Pedrajas manages to sink and smooth trifecta. Callahan then sinks a layup to make the tie the score 11-11 but Pedrajas shoots another clutch trey to advance to the finals.
The second game was also very tight matchup. It was between the Thai Sam Anurak and the Greek Australian Zac "ZMac" Mousoulis. The game started off slow with good defensive pressure applied by both players but as soon as Anurak got the ball rolling, it was all layups sinking left and right. It was very close until the final stretcj wotj a 2 point advantage by Anurak in a 10-8 game. Mousoulis and Anurak both miss a layup. Mousoulis tries a hook and still misses. Anurak gets the rebound and makes sure he scores to meet Pedrajas in the finals.
Just like the semifinal games, the final game between Pedrajas and Anurak was also very competitive. Competitive to the point where they bring the game to a score of 14-14. Anurak then gets a jumpshot in. Pedrajas misses a hook giving the ball to Anurak who sinks another short jumper to win the Michael Finley 1 on 1 Challenge.
He'll be heading to San Antonio with Mike and I to join the Stallions in Training Camp and some preseason games. And of course, he'll be playing a game of 1 on 1 against Mike as promised similar to how Mike (Finley) got a chance to play another Mike (Jordan) when he was in high school.
Haha I am going to San Antonio ! Jus like in real life if I played you guys
Both opponents did pretty good against me and I can't wait toplay vs Finley and compete in the preseason games. Special thanks to Null17 for organizing this together
hehe.. but I'm not really going to go into details on the tournament...I'm going to play a special game on the next update and just mentioned that you played finley.
San Antonio, TX - Yesterday, San Antonio Stallions season ticket holders were given a treat by the organization. They held an all-day event made for the Stallions fans. where Sicket holders were given a tour of the newly renovated SBC Center. In the morning, they got a glimpse of how head coach Greg Popovich trains the Stallions as they got to see the Stallions doing they're drills and workouts as well as doing a run-through of their plays inside a practice facility located within the arena.
Later on in the afternoon, fans were in for another treat as they witnessed the one-on-one game with Michael Finley that Sam Anurak was entitled to after winning a one-on-one tournament sponsored by Finley himself that ended a few weeks ago. Finley gave Anurak a few tips after their game. Apart from the one-on-one matchup, Anurak is also entitled to join the Stallions in training camp and get to play as part of the Stallions throughout the course of the preseason. He also received gift items such as shoes and jerseys from both Nike and the Stallions.
"He reminds me a little bit of Earl Boykins, small but fast and can really shoot", states Finley, "He still has a lot of room for improvement but the raw talent is definitely there. Maybe in a few years, we'll see him in the NBA"
Afterwards, the fans were also entitled to a meet-and-greet session with the whole Stallions roster who wore their new uniforms. This also served as a pictorial session for the press. While the rest of the roster wore the home (white) or away (red) jerseys that were announced a few months ago, perennial twelfth man Sean Marks was seen donning a black jersey that was being kept a secret until now. This will serve as the Stallions alternate road jersey.
Later that night, fans were in for yet another treat as the Stallions played an exhibition game to show the new court design and to also get a glimpse of some Stallions action. The roster was divided into two teams.
The first being the white team composed of 2005 NBA Finals MVP Tim Duncan, newly acquired Michael Finley, Brent Barry. Fabricio Oberto, Nick Van Exel, Beno Udrih, Sean Marks and Jawad Williams. The second is the red team composed of guard tandem Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker, "Big Shot" Rob Horry, Bruce Bowen, Nazr Mohammed, Rasho Nesterovic and the Michael Finley 1 on 1 Challenge winner Sam Anurak.
It was a close game between the two teams but the red team prevailed in the end with a score of 75-74. The team was lead by guards Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker who scored 27 and 22 points respectively with Ginobili getting 4 rebounds while parker dished 5 assists. Robert Horry also made a big contribution by scoring 9 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. The white team lost despite great performances by Tim Duncan, who got 27 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks, Brent Barry, who scored 17 points, and Michael Finley, who scored 12 points and dished 5 dimes. Sam Anurak scored 2 points and got an assist.
All in all, the event was a success and received good reactions from the fans especially with the participation of legends George Gervin and David Robinson.
