well it was planned since it's part of the Summer College Tour. Anyway, since that's over, I'll be proceeding with the Michael Finley 1on1 Challenge now. That is if Cloudy gives me his cyberface soon
It's ok man. I would've been fine with this thread hanging around at the 2005 section while I wait for 06. I can easily talk to a mod on MSN if I wanted to anyway.
But it's cool. going to the 06 section early is fine as well.
Michael Finley 1 on 1 Challenge down to 8 participants
New York City, NY - After about a month of grueling 1 on 1 battles between more than 500 participants from more than 20 different countries aspiring to become the winner of the Michael Finley 1 on 1 Challenge, the final few contestants have finally been picked from the lot. All 500 participants played a round robin style elimination round where the top 8 participants with the best records were picked to play in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The final 8 will be seeded randomly and it will be played in a sudden death format where the winner of an 11-point 1 on 1 game will advance to the next round. The top 8 participants are the following.
Name: Ivan Shchipansky Age: 13 Height: 5'10" Weight: 125lbs Number: 2 Country: USA
Name: Robert Skrnjug Age: 14 Height: 5'6" Weight: 160lbs Number: 69 Country: Australia
Name: Jing Xu Age: 17 Height: 6'0" Weight: 180lbs Number: 5 Country: USA The matchups for the quarterfinals will be: Callahan Vs Xu, Skrnjug vs Pedrajas, Lam vs Anurak and Shchipansky vs Mousoulis

no Initial D, you're going up against Sunny Lam...
anyway for the benefit of everyone
Sam Anurak = Initial D
Shaun Callahan = ShaunCx9 (sorry forgot the exact name but you know him)
Sunny Lam = Cloudy
Zac Mouzoulis = zmac
Joseph Pedrajas = killer_cr0ss0ver
Ivan Shchipansky = Anthony15
Robert Skrnjug = Jugs
Jing Xu = jxuusa
No, you're against zmac. The pictures are just the players listed in alphabetical order. I made the stallion vision before I even made the matchups. The matchups are on the article right after the profile.
Most of you guys are pretty equal anyway since you guys are about the same size and have good shooting and dribbling since I didn't want you guys to have ridiculous dunk ratings
San Antonio, TX - After 22 years of faithful service, The Coyote, San Antonio's beloved long-time mascot, has finally decided to retire. The move was said to be caused by the recent renaming of the San Antonio organization from the Spurs to the Stallions.
Wearing #2!, the mascot has been names the NBA's MVV (Most Valuable Varmint) for eight times in his caree and has averaged 29.9 guffaws and 11.8 chuckles per contest. He has registered a career-high 1118 hugs vs the Lakers on 17th of December 1994. The Coyote has also served as the official mascot of the US Olympic Festival in 1993. He hails from Sheep Buffet, Texas and is an alumnus of ACME University
The Stallions have announced that the Coyote will have his last appearance on their season opener against the Nuggets. It is believed that the game's half time show will serve as a tribute to the Coyote and will also serve as the introduction of the team's new mascot which has yet to be named.
"The half time show will be dedicated to Coyote for his many years of service to the organization. It will also be a passing of the torch-type ceremony as the Coyote will be handing down his spot to our new mascot which we havent' decided on yet" says General Manager RC Buford.
Rumors have it that the Stallions are looking to sign Hooper of the Detroit Pistons as the new mascot if the speculations of him being let go by Detroit pulls through. The Stallions are also keeping an eye on some of Hooper's relatives as options.
Nice article, i didnt know mascots were serious shit. Coyote was a great mascot Let's hope you can find a Free Agent Mascot that isn't asking for too much and that can perform well.
lol. got the idea when I saw the save hooper thing on the pistons website. then I checked out the spurs website and saw some shit about him (that's where I got all the info on the second paragraph) and thought I'd make an article about him
Callahan beats Xu to kickoff Michael Finley 1on1 Challenge quarterfinals by Sam Rubenstein
Greetings. Sam Rubenstein here, some of you may know me as Sam the Intern from Slamonline.com's The Links. The guy who occasionally does Lang Whitaker's article when he's away. Anyway, Stallions Central has invited me to do the coverage of the Michael Finley 1 on 1 Challenge from the quarterfinals all the way to the finals for them. I'm not really sure why they chose me to do this but i have a feeling is it was because they wanted to get some one else but only I had the extra time to do this.
Anyway, I'm going to be using a format wherein I'd do a short intro and then a detailed play by play of the game. The play by play are basically my notes for the game done on a per possession basis. I'm going to write the score after each possession if the it changed on that possession. If that was a little confusing just read on and you'll get the hang of it. Since this format will make my job a lot easier as well as give you, the readers, more details about the game.
Going on, this is the first quarterfinal game of the MF1on1C (Michael Finley 1 on 1 Challenge, for the slow learners out there). It was between #9 Shaun Callahan, from Weymouth, Massachusetts and #5 Jing Xu who is also residing in Massachusetts(Amherst to be exact). Both are about the same height listed at 6'0" and have great ballhandling and shooting skills. The game these two played was very neck-and-neck as both players would get the lead from the other after a few possessions. I was thinking it would go the extra mile as it was still close down the stretch but in the end it was Callahan who got the win with a score of 11-9. Anyway here are my game notes for a more detailed explanation. Catch you on the next game.
- Xu shoots for possession. It goes in.
- Xu crosses Callahan freethrow line then layup. 0-1
- Callahan long 1pt shot on the right side of the arc. 1-1
- Xu attempts 2 pt shot. fails Callahan with the rebound.
- Callahan drives to the hoop for the quick score. 2-1
- Xu attempts midrange baseline jumper on left side. He gets fouled.
- Xu with the quick cross, drives and lays it in. 2-2
- Callahan crosses Xu near the free throw line attempts a midrange jumper and misses. Rebound Xu.
- Xu takes the ball to the right side of the court near the baseline. He does a few crossovers and goes for the layup. 2-3
- Callahan tries to drive but Xu locks on him tight. Callahan brings the ball all over the court trying to look for an opening. carelessly, Callahan takes the ball out of bounds on the baseline.
- Xu crosses Callahan at the top of the key. goes for a quick score. 2-4
- Callahan brings the ball close to the ring and pulls a nice floater. 3-4
- Xu goes for a layup. 3-5
- Callahan, not be outdone, does the same exact layup that Xu did on the last possession. 4-5
- Callahan does a nice job on the defensive end giving Xu a hard time but Xu, with about 9 seconds left on the clock, manages to slip past Callahan's tight defensive pressure and go for a quick drive. 4-6
- Callahan drives from the left side of the baseline but misses the lay in. Callahan fortunately manages to get the rebound and follow up with a quick point. 5-6
- Another quick cross and layup from Xu. 5-7
- Callahan gets back on Xu and does a quick layup of his own. 6-7
- Xu posts up on Callahan near the rim but accidentally steps out of bounds while trying to body in.
- Callahan has a hard time trying to get in for the quick score as Xu tries to apply some defensive pressure once again. A desperate Callahan goes for short jumper but misses. He manages to get a offensive board and goes for a nice fader near the rim to the tie the game. 7-7
- Xu attempts a 2 pointer but bricks it. Callahan gets the board.
- Callahan gets the quick first step on Xu and lays it in to take the lead. 8-7
- Xu shoots a nice jumper from the key to tie the game. 8-8
- Not able to drive in, Callahan takes a sweet baseline jumper with 4 on the clock. 8-9
- Xu goes for a nice baseline drive. 9-9
- Callahan does a nice faker and a cross on Xu to get to a layup. seems like it's going to be a long game. 10-9
- Xu goes for a baby hook around the rim but he misses it. Callahan grabs the rebound. might not be a long game afterall.
- Callahan gets a nice anklebreaker on Xu and goes for the game-winning layup. 11-9
- Callahan wins and goes to the semifinals
