Around The NBA
MVP Candidates - P/R/A/B/S
1. Yao Ming (HOU) - 28.0/10.9/3.6/2.0/0.2 - Finally healthy, Yao has led his Rockets to a 22-11 record, and is exceeded all the expectations made when he was drafted in 2002. If he stays healthy, watch out for the Rockets this year.
2. LeBron James (CLE) - 28.3/6.9/7.2/0.7/1.6 - Despite seeing a slight drop in his stats, LeBron's Cavs are finally having an exceptional season, and he may finally have everything to win over the MVP voters this year.
3. Kobe Bryant (LAL) - 31.0/5.0/6.9/0.5/1.2 - Kobe has led his team to the top of their division and is putting up insane numbers while at it.
4. Allen Iverson (DEN) - 28.9/2.8/8.2/0.1/2.2 - Carmelo Anthony has missed 14 games to injury, and the Nuggets have an unspectacular 12-18 record, but Iverson is tearing it up nevertheless.
5. Shawn Marion (MIA) - 23.0/11.5/4.9/1.8/0.8 - Best trade ever? Shawn Marion has randomly exploded this year, outshining even franchise player Dwyane Wade. The Heat are 19-9, and Marion is the driving force.

How The Hawks Players Fared
The Hawks entered the month of December with a .750 win ratio and end the month with it. However, in that month, a lot has changed. Josh Smith is pulling his weight finally, and his averages have jumped in every category. Mike Bibby, and other players have been discussed in trade talks. Also, the Hawks now hold the league's top record. However, Jamaal Magloire has seen his numbers dip, and now rarely sees 20 minutes a night. Williams is rumored to become a starter. Also perplexing is that Al Horford leads the team in free throw percentage!
Who Is Doing Well:
Joe Johnson is the star of the team, and continues to lead the league's second best team in scoring, while shooting a nice 51% from the field as a shooting guard.
Josh Smith was the team's third leading scorer in the month of December, and has up his stats in every category.
Al Horford continues to improve, and comes ever closer to a 15 and 10 average. Horford plays half his minutes at the 5, and could sneak on to the All-Star roster at that position with some luck.
Mike Bibby has been placed in numerous trade rumors, but the fact remains that he is currently the best point guard in the Eastern Conference.
Marvin Williams has been very consistent and looks to regain his starting position this coming month.
Who Isn't Doing Well:
Jamaal Magloire has seen his numbers take a dive, as well as his minutes. Coach Washburn is expected to replace him with Marvin Williams in the starting lineup. Tough break for the Canadian one-time all-star.
Craig Smith still gets decent minutes off the bench. Is a solid big man with potential, but shoots an atrocious percentage from the field, and doesn't seem to be the right fit for Atlanta.
Speedy Claxton gets paid well over 6 million a year to be a third-string PG. While his assist/turnover ratio isn't bad, practically every other facet of his game is. Expect him to be traded.
Everyone Else:[Cochrane: Image unavailable. Whoops.]
Josh Childress still complains about not getting enough minutes. When he does play, he is their second best man off the bench. Coach Washburn just hates the way he shoots.
Acie Law is beginning to receive more playing time, and is slowly developing into a decent backup point guard. Had 11 points and 4 assists in the final game of December against Detroit. A bit like Maurice Williams.
ZaZa Pachulia is an unspectacular Center who plays a few minutes a night off the bench. Isn't bad, but doesn't do anything special. Likely trade bait.
Ellery Cochrane, referred to as the "Cock Reign Man" by teammates is finally getting some time. The Zach De La Rocha-lookalike has has some decent play off the bench, and is basically a backup Pachulia, which is pretty good for a mid-second round pick.
Latest Transactions:
In a Blockbuster trade, the Sacramento Kings has sent combo guard Quincy Douby to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Vitaly Potapenko. Neither has played a minute this season.
The Cleveland Cavaliers signed free agent Point Guard Keith McLeod. The Hawks Rumor coach thinks McLeod will be used in a trade soon, but he is a dumb son of a bitch, so this should be taken with a grain of salt.
Jose Calderon finally broke down and signed with the Milwaukee Bucks. Many major free agents remain unsigned however. This filled the Bucks need for a point guard.

Joe Smith, Szczerbiak, McLeod Acquired in Three-Team Trade
Atlanta, GA - A major deal was made by the Atlanta Hawks that will clear up serious cap space this offseason. However, not with star Point Guard Mike Bibby or the Toronto Raptors. Instead, the Hawks made a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Milwaukee Bucks.
The trade sends Wally Szczerbiak, Joe Smith, Keith McLeod and the Bucks second round pick to Atlanta. Craig Smith and the Hawks first rounder goes to Milwaukee. Yi Jianlian, ZaZa Pachulia and Speedy Claxton go to Cleveland.![]()

For the Hawks: Atlanta actually becomes a better team from this trade. They ditch talented, but underutilized Point Guard Speedy Claxton and his contract. Much to Josh Childress' joy, Craig Smith is gone. In return, they receive nearly 20 million dollars in expiring contracts, and veterans role players. If he stays healthy, Wally Szczerbiak could be a coup for them. The only downside of the trade is that they are breaking up one of the best teams in the league. At least they didn't trade any starters though.
Trade Grade: A-
For the Bucks: While widely seen at the losers of the trade, Yi Jianlian's people have not let him play this season, and a buyout was expected. The Bucks managed to get something for him in the form of young backup forward Craig Smith and getting a late first rounder. Sure, Yi is worth more than that, but its a hell of a lot better than a buyout.
Trade Grade: C-
For the Cavaliers: The Cavs are one of the best teams in the league this year, but LeBron James says that they still aren't capable of winning a title. This should shut him up. The Cavaliers ditch old injury prone players for a decent point guard (finally!), a spectacular talent in Yi Jianlian and a decent backup in Pachulia. Yi's people couldn't be happier that he gets to play with LeBron, and the Cavs not only improve, but sell more tickets.
