you might just want to get 2k10 instead of 2k9
Opinions are my own.

well we already have new tools like a 3d editor and a better roster editor for 2k10 already. Never mind the my player mode and the fact that most of the 2k9 patches can be easily converted by their creators. The 2k10 releases section is already bountiful of patches but it's your choice.

A couple of the roster patchers released "full" updates, but they dont usually update everything (courts, jerseys, existing player CFs who didnt change looks during the season)

There was only 1 official update for 2k9, which was earlier in the season.

Mods are very simple to install in 2k10 and 2k9, you just replace default files while backing up the default ones.

Again man, for your reasons, I think 2k10 is the better choice, but it is up to you.
Opinions are my own.

I'm getting a copy of 2k9, and i'm looking forward to patching and making some mods for it. I'm an experienced patcher, but am unfamiliar to 2k9, so if it's ok if any of you guys could take the time to give me a very quick guide of what programs are around, i'd be grateful.

Just need some pointers really.

Use IFF editor. BTW, dont make jerseys with template coz 2k jerseys dont need template.

At the moment, i can't even get online to play the game. Any ideas, or is it just a 2k sports issue?

I have the IFF editor, and i need some called the MLB editor too, i think it converts files to images (to edit). The link is broken in the resource section, does anyone have a working link, or the download they can upload please?
