I know this won't run on my laptop but will it run with everything on low on my parents pc. Here are the specs:

Windows XP
version 2002
service pack 3
Pentium 4 3.00 ghz processor
Nvidia geforce fx 5200 w/128 mb of memory

I Highly doubt it wll work.

Thanks, I'll try the demo as soon as I get my laptop. By the way, is the demo free or I need an account or something?

EDIT:
Never mind, already created a free account and downloading the demo now...

As far as I understand, the game won't run well. And I think you need to be careful because this game needs some major resources and it might make your parents' pc work too hard. I wouldn't try it, especially that it's not your pc. But it's up to you...
I have a low-end PC (P4 3.05ghz, 1GB ram and Geforce 6200 256mb) and wouldn't even try running it.

jonathonmchugh, the Nvidia 5200 video card cannot run the game, it doesn't even support Shader model 3.0.

Hey guys, I might be trading my Toshiba for a decent desktop. I dunno that the game will work or not but here are the specs for my new computer, possibly:

Biostar Motherboard P4m89-m7b
3.4GHz Intel Prescott
NEW! 2GB DDR2 667/5300 RAM
EVGA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Video Card
NEW! 250GB Western Digital ATA Hard Drive
NEW! LG DVD/CD-RW Combo w/ LightScribe
NEW! New Black Case w/ glow stick
NEW! 480W Power Supply
XP Pro restore disk with all drivers include

I read on here that the video card just meets the system requirements. Does anybody have a system with similar specs? Have you been able to run the game smoothly, even if the settings are on low? If I make this trade, I plan on upgrading the video card as soon as I get a job and start getting back to work.

It would work because tehcnically it meets the requirements (SM3.0)

but I doubt if its playable as it is a slow card with a slow memory interface

What do you mean by that? Is it during the start of every quarter? Try changing the crowd detail to "low".

I see. I just had enough of posters wondering why 2K9 is so slow in their system when they don't even know their specs. I can think of many reasons why your game slows down when the crowd is shown.

1. The crowd really takes its toll on your graphics card. Try doing the aforementioned advice by lowering the crowd setting.

2. The official patch isn't yet installed in your game. It fixes some issues which may give some additional FPS.

3. Your PC sucks. I'm not too sure about the CPU, that's why.

only the videocard is holding you back :) For NBA 2k9, i would recommend at least an 8600GT level card or higher..

the 7300SE "tecnically" meets the minimum requirement which is SM3.0 but it has less raw power than the minimum card (GeForce 6600GT)

ok so heres my list (sorry guys, nVIDIA cards only :D) of which cards will be ok (take note that this is just my estimate based on the minimum and recommended specs, I havent tried playing NBA 2k9 on other systems except my own and this list is just my educated guess)

Geforce 6200, 7100,7200, 7300GS/LEm, 8400GS (and below) = technically can but power wise, is slower than the minimum so expect bad performence

Geforce 6600, 6600GT, 7300GT (DDR3), Geforce 7600GS (DDR2),8500GT = Minimum requirement level (or a tad higher than minimum)so just take a clue as to how it would perform. At this point it doesnt matter if you have 512mb and above vRAM as these cards (and slower wont be able to make good use of it anyway)

6800 series cards, 7600GT, 8600GT, 8600GTS, 9500GT, 7900 series cards = Within the recommended card range so expect to be able to crank up a few settings here and there (depending on the resolution) at this point a 512mb card should be max, in fact if you are choosing between a 256mb 8600GT and a 512mb 8600GT I would still choose the 256mb version if there is some price difference since there wont be much of a performance advantage going from 256mb to 512mb

9600 series, 8800series,9800 series = above the recommended requirement..so depending on which card you have, you can even increase setttings like AA and AF and high resolutions
GTX series = expect constant 60fps even with 8xMSAA and 16xAF :D

Maybe he can somehow get rid of the crowd and run the game smooth. I guess he could rename the street court to each stadium and play each game on blacktop to get smoother framerates.
