Go to Process, choose the 2k9 one, right click it and set it's priority to 'real time' from 'normal', then click 'yes' in the confirmation dialog box. After that the game would run smoothly :mrgreen:
U just have to do this every time u run the game though ;)

tried it an it wouldn't let me set it to real time but put it on high instead. what are some other stuff we can close during games?

anyone tested this out yet? i found a bat file that u can juz click on it and it will run on real time. no need to ctrl alt del everytime u play.

Right click on nba2k9.exe, hover over "set affinity" and disable one of the cores. If it doesn't change anything, or even hurt's the menu performance, then it's not your processor.

Check to see if your videocard AA and AF settigns are cranked all the way up. If they are, turn them off.

Try disabling any security programs like antivirus or your internet firewall.

Try starting the game without any USB devices attached. I've heard people fix an issue by doing this before.

Update your videocard drivers. Even older drivers might help if newer ones don't.

thanks I've tried disableing one core and it just makes the game worst to 14fps during game (ultra-High). I'll try running it without USB device. but how can i use my Controller if i have to remove all usb devices..

I have catalyst 8.9 installed what catalyst driver are you using guys.

btw heres how it runs on my pc.

Ultra High
Exhibition game - 20-25 fps
Blacktop - 4 on 4 50-60 fps
blacktop - 5 on 5 35-40 fps
practice tutorial - 140-160 fps..

High
Exhibition game 45-65 fps.

I'm actually running 7.11 catalysts. As for the USB device, it was just a possibility, there is no reason for it to cause a laggy menu like that.

the =2 workaround doesnt change anything for me..

Try changing the 2 to a 0 instead. If you notice the other "logical core" options in the config file, they have them set to 0 or 1, not 1 and 2. Hell, you could try setting it to 1 and 1 and see what happens. Nothing wrong with experimenting with the file, just make a backup or atleast remember your changes.

It sounds like your Pentium D is having the similar issue as people with AMD dual cores. I wonder if it is the timing issue or if your computer is throttling down due to heat. Just some more thoughts that are jumping into my head as possibilities. If you aren't having problems with other games, then the throttling issue is not likely.

Im not having problems with other games. like Crysis, Far Cry2, PES 2008( which has many players on the screen ), Assassins creed. .

then why are some core2duo users also experiencing this 20fps ultra-high issue...

maybe a patch could help..

Man, I can't seem to get a good enough fps with this game. During gameplay it's anywhere between 21-28 FPS.(Looks a little choppy)
It doesn't seem to matter what reolution I use either, the fps stays between 21-28 during gameplay. I wonder if something is not right? My compuer is a dell dimension e510.

Here are my specs
Intel(R) P4 CPY 3.0 GHZ 2.99 GHZ
2558 MB RAM
Windows Vista 32 bit
Nvidia 8800 GT 512 MB
1280x1024

thanks

Hello m8, that's weird, I can run the game at x4 msaa x2 quality, ultra high players and high others 1280x1024 my monitor max, at about 30-35 framerate. I have a pentium d 930 oc'd to 3.58 from 3.0 (i wud do more but my psu is crap) and an nvida geforce 8600gt oc'd to 716 clock and 820 mem with the config tweeks. Some times when alot of the crowd gets in the shot it slows down maybe 5 fps but its really nice not choppy at all.

Really!?

me i got the 25-35fps only when i overclock my Pentium D 945 3.93 from 3.4. the difference is i have HD 3870 512mb. In stock speed Im experiencing 20 and below fps.. so every time i play nba 2k9 i have to overclock my cpu but i dont have problems running Crysis, Farcry 2, etc. :roll:

I've got a CPU that's is exactly like your (Pentium D 3.2Ghz ,Nvidia geforce 8600GT 512MB & 3 Gigs RAM) but with no overclocking if i run the game in the ultra high details Iam getting 20-23 FPS so can you tell me exactly how to overclock my device in order to squeez it as much as i can to reach your 30-35 FPS. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE.

You should probably inquire to see what bad OCing can do to your system...

Do you mean that O.C. will harm my PC?!!!

Sat Nov 01, 2008 7:11 am

If not done responsibly, OC can definitely hurt your components. It's not as easy as it may sound, Id' recommend to google it first, especially to see if your own components are not known to become unstable with OCing (some CPUs and mobos don't mind it, others really do). Just a friendly advice before you get into that. ;)

Sat Nov 01, 2008 8:22 am

Thanks... ;)

Sat Nov 01, 2008 9:48 am

if you dont know the what the fsb is then you should def hit up guides, just google overclocking (insert processor) Guide and get familar with the terminology and risk.
My mobo lets me do it directly from the bio's so its easy and the Pentium D's are relatively safe to overclock, but then again it is realativly safe to stand under a tree during a thunderstorm :). If it would kill you if your processor died then dont do it, but I can tell you it wont happen with these new processors that are oc friendly

1. Read the guides

2. Make sure you arent rasing the voltage to ur entire system but only the cpu

3. MONITOR UR TEMPS, My petium d was runnin crit temps at stock till i got artic freezer pro, now i oc to 3.58 and it still ildes at 35-41 depending on my room temp. If you are a noob at this, dont attempt becasue if u do this just to get ultra high settings and ur computer dies that will suck.

Thanks for the answer. (Y)

Mon Nov 03, 2008 2:14 pm

so is my Pentium D 945 and Asus P5KPL-CM ok? i only get 50-60 on my cpu temp.

i have 3 extra fans on my pc. 1 exhaust and 2 intake.. is it the correct or 2 exhaust 1 intake?.. thanks!

Bro. after reading a lot of articles on the internet about the O.Cing i managed to pull it of safely (Thank God) now i reached your 3.58 MHZ exactly through increasing my CPU clock speed from 200 to 222 with a stable temp from 45-50 but still can't get your 30-35 FPS now i need to O.C my nvidia GPU. now it's 650 clock and 500 mem i can see a different between my 8600GT and your's but i want to know is it safe to O.C my GPU to reach your exact clock & mem. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

For those that can't even select UltraHigh Player detail on the ingame menu, try this..

Look for your config file on C:\Documents and Settings\......\NBA2k9.....

and look for this line:

VIDEOSETTING_PLAYERLOD =

And set it to 3

VIDEOSETTING_PLAYERLOD = 3

I've found this on another forum. :?

Tue Nov 04, 2008 5:56 am

SkyLine03LT,

Anti-Aliasing so the game doesn't have jagged edges and AF is Anisotropic Filtering.
If you want to know what that is try Google...

Check this it helped me to run the game perfect.

Got some info that might help i was running the game on a nvidia 7600gt and the game was lagging on ultra high and slightly lagging on high so i went out and bought a 9800 gt oc and i was thinking alright should beable to max out now.. but nope the game still lagged then i came across some more info on changing the config file and i changed the CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_1 from = 1 to = 2 and got a slight gain in fps than i talked to someone who said raise it higher to 5 and bam now i play the game fully maxxed with no lag.. here is what my config file looks like..

VIDEOSETTING_ADAPTERINDEX = 0
VIDEOSETTING_WIDTH = 1280
VIDEOSETTING_HEIGHT = 960
VIDEOSETTING_COLORDEPTH = 32
VIDEOSETTING_VSYNC = 0
VIDEOSETTING_REFRESHRATE = 75
VIDEOSETTING_WINDOWMODE = 0
VIDEOSETTING_MSAA = 8
VIDEOSETTING_MSAAQUALITY = 2
VIDEOSETTING_MAXTEXTURESIZE = 4096
VIDEOSETTING_DEPTHOFFIELD = 1
VIDEOSETTING_FLOORREFLECTION = 1
VIDEOSETTING_CROWDDETAIL = 2
VIDEOSETTING_SHADERDETAIL = 1
VIDEOSETTING_PLAYERLOD = 3
VIDEOSETTING_SIDELINECHARACTER = 2

STALL_CPU_ON_END_FRAME = 1
LIMIT_FLIP_QUEUE_LENGTH = 2
LIMIT_FLIP_QUEUE_LENGTH_SLEEP = 0
STICKYKEY = 498
TOGGLEKEY = 50
FILTERKEY = 114
ACCESSIBILITYKEY_SAVED = 1
LANGUAGE = -482460772
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_0 = 1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_1 = 5
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_2 = -1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_3 = -1

i hope this helps as much as it has to me..

ps. i also have V-sync turned off in the game but in the nvidia control panel i have it set to be forced on.. i found that to help with the smoothness

after i changed it i now get 30 - 40 and the game runs very smooth

Wed Nov 05, 2008 5:20 pm

ok I'll try your tweak later. (fingers crossed).
