NBA Live 08 Sliders Thread (All Sliders Discussions Here)

Postby Andrew on Mon Nov 05, 2007 6:30 pm

Here is the official sliders thread for NBA Live 08. If you're posting sliders here, please make sure you specify whether your slider set is for the PC/PS2 version or the Xbox 360/PS3 version of the game. It's a good idea to post the difficulty level and quarter length that best suit your sliders as well.

6-8 minutes here, still tweaking.. CPU controlled teams are still using run and gun offense most of the time, even if i lower the game speed.. :(

Yeah right, run and gun offense. And transitional defense is zero.
I still do 8 min, but the CPU's PG and SG are killing me even if I lower my speed to 20. Hope someone will have a tweak at AIACT as did in 07.

Have you guys tried setting the CPU's offensive plays before the game, always worked for me.

I am getting pretty realistic figures for FGA, 3PA, 3P% in simulated games.

I think my FG% is still a little bit too good - still workin' on it.

Do u guys have any suggestions of what to adjust???

I got 3 more questions - hopefully u could help me solve these:
- Is there any possibility to pre-define the playbook (also for CPU) - so that I don't have to do it in game every time???
- I couldn't find an option to freeze the Controller-Options - I also have to do this every single game.... sux!!!
- And another gameplay issue: it seems to me that a team's superstar scores way too much - is there a way to get these Stars to involve their teammates a little bit more?

So long!

DaFisch - see this thread for the instructions on changing the default team strategy and the default quick plays so you do not need to change them every time.

http://www.nbaliveforums.com/ftopic52504.php

There is some debate about whether changing the team strategy makes any improvement to the gameplay - I would love to know if anyone sees a difference.

You said you are getting pretty good shooting % in simulated games using these sliders. I did not think the sliders impacted simulated games at all - just the games you play live. I have found that the human medium and long range sliders need to be much higher to hit anything (or I still just really suck at this verion of the game still...). Have you tried these much is live games vs. the CPU?
In theory there is no difference between theory and reality...except that there is in reality.

Yeah, you're right....

I also sucked in long and medium range shooting - but compensated that by penetrating more.

So I turned the medium and long range numbers to the lower 40s - maybe I am going to lower short range shooting a little bit.... still figuring that out. (Of course in Live Games - I'm playing all day ;)

If sliders don't effect simulated games - how can I alter the sim. stats?
I am going to use your .dbf edit for my next opponent and tell you my oppinion.

Thx for your input man.

I am still working on some issues:

1. I think it's too easy to penetrate for the user - has someone a suggestion how to make that more difficult.
2. Although my foul sliders are relatively high, I get only ca. 15 PF per game - maybe I have to set all to max.
3. The fine tuning on the FG% via short range/medium/long range is still in progress....

What do u guys think of these parameters???? Let me know!

Boundary force is one of the sliders EA took away from 360 version of the game along with double team effect.....

Boundary Force would have helped take away the CPU players stepping out of bounds and Double Team effect would have been nice this year to help out the defensive low post play by the CPU.

The shooting sliders I'm seeing on the PC version tells me the game play must been quite different from the console version and PC version in terms of medium and long range shooting that's kinda odd unless EA did some things different with the shooting ratings.

I agree, it's really easy to penetrate as a user. Especially in transition. I've found that if you get a rebound, then pass it to the PG, and then turbo up the court, you will almost always get a layup or dunk. The CPU is able to do that as well. The transition defense is atrocious.

I've only played a few games using your setup. Have you tried increasing the game speed?

From what I've read, it's the same deal in the X-Box version of the game. The PGs and SGs are way too dominate. Especially on the CPU side. Even if the defense is set, the PG will be able to penetrate and score even when triple-teamed.

I was playing against the Clippers, and Sam Cassell would take the ball up the court, stand there for 10 seconds, then blow by me and dunk/layup over 3 of my big men. There's got to be a way to stop that. Maybe edit the player rankings, and increase defensive awareness for everybody?

I'll keep tinkering too, hopefully we'll be able to figure something out. :D

I have a question on free throw slider.

if the value of "FT diff" is lower does it mean the harder to hit FT?

and a higher value means easier to hit FT?

No it's exactly the other way...

The lower the difficulty, the easier you hit a free throw... and vice versa.

does anyone know how to make slider files? i have decent sliders for 6-8 mins superstar. The surprising thing is that i had to turn UP the shooting sliders to 70 odd.. to make sure that the players actually play better..

looking at it overall, i think the major problem with this ai is too much penetration and no "desire" for jumpshots. so increasing the jumpshot percentage and decreasing the layup percentage SHOULD make the ai choose jumps over tough layups. im still working on them, but if i get a way to make files, i will post them here.

Hey Lagoa, I love your courts, but I tried your sliders, the game was too slow and Aldridge missed two straight open layups which were supposed to be dunks, I am now using default ones. Thanks anyway. :)

Hi! Firs, i apologize my bad english.
Its extremely hard to hit 3pointer in nba live 2008. My opinion is, take a good shooter and go practice mode. Take about 3x10 3ptrs. If you are able to hit about 80-90% percent, then you get the right value. Every good shooter in nba can hit this much in real practice. I think that accurate slider value is 60-65 in superstar mode. Medium and short range shooting values are much lower.

Here are my sliders for 12min and superstar:

Global Sliders

Game Speed 25 (i like slower pace, but im european  )
Free Throw Dif. 70 (depends how good are you. Its common, that you have to rise this value after some time)
Boundary Force 75
Injury Frequency 15
Charge/Block Foul 60
Shooting Foul 96
Reach-in Foul 60
In-air Collision Foul 80

User Sliders

Steal 20 (its littlebit high, but i have bad habit to reach and try steal the ball. Because of that i use high reachin foul value. Sometimes you can steal, but sometimes if you player dont have high steal rating its foul.).
Interception 10
Shot Block 20
Dunk/Lay-up Block 80
Freestyle Eff. 60
Dunk vs. Lay-up 5 (dunkfiesta is not realistic)
On-ball Defense 50
Offensive Reb. 5
Defensive Reb. 95
Fakeout 10
Short Range 43
Medium Range 50
Long Range 64
Dunk % 44
Lay-up % 44
Adjusted Shot % 50
On-ball Physical 50
Poor Release Shot % 50
Double-team Eff. 60
Pro-Hop Eff. 5
Drop Step Eff. 5

CPU Sliders

Steal 35
Interception 30 (you must think if you pass the ball)
Shot Block 40
Dunk/Lay-up Block 95 (before you go and take a easy layup, you have to judge the situation. If poor sg goes facetoface with good shotblocker, its extremly possible to get blocked. You must think and then act like in real game)
Freestyle Eff. 60
Dunk Freq. 5 (dunkfiesta!)
Substitution 50
Offensive Reb. 10
Defensive Reb. 98
Fakeout 60
Short Range 40
Medium Range 40
Long Range 41
Dunk % 40
Lay-up % 47
Adjusted Shot % 47
Adjusted Shot Freq. 20
On-ball Physical 55 (this rating is one of the most important in game. Lower the rating and CPU player cant run past your defence)
Poor Release Shot % 39
Double-team Eff. 60
Pro-Hop Eff. 30
Drop Step Eff. 30

I apologize again, my english is bad, but i hope your understand. I get pretty realistic stats. Its important to adjust your game. If you pass sloppy and take wrong shots and layups, the balance in stats is gone.

The PC and PS2 versions are identical in terms of gameplay so any PC sliders should be fine to use with the PS2 version.

i like ur values for short, medium, and long range shot percentage for the user.

i was using 35, 40, 45...and im getting only 1/13 3pt % on average :P and miss most medium range shots

I really like your sliders saatanus.

Is there anything we can do about the lots of turnovers the cpu still commits. It's like i see 5 till 10 times a Backcourt violation of the cpu every game. Also their shooting percentage is sometimes really superb.

I have the feeling the user momentum is based on turnovers of the cpu.
And the cpu momentum is based on missing shots of the user.

Can somebody please post some sliders that are realistic? I've tried all three sets on this post and they are decent but not great. Thanks

This will be my first post.

First of all, greetings to community. and merry christmas :xmas:

Here is my sliders after a significant amount of try & test.

Platform: PC
Difficulty: Superstar
Quarter Length: 7-8 min.

I am too lazy to write it all of the values down so here is the sequential screenshots of them:

I hope these are the sliders for people who are seeking the ultimate one  Please don't ask why that value is 32 instead of 35 or 87 in place of a simple 90. Those are hiding that I've made up :P joking apart, all of them have rationale. (hopefully for everyone else)

I agree with Saatanus: it's extremely hard to hit 3pointer in nba live 2008. Need 60+ value.
The short range shooting values are much lower.
And the cpu defense in Live 08 is a very shit.

I like realistic game but without annoying features (like too much fouls, or a lot of dunk)
These sliders are for gameplay realistic and amusing.

Sliders set for 6-7-8 min. in Superstar mode, Realistic Roster v.2 (aiact Kris 1.32 + ILT patch) with Maek fatigue fix 1.3

The values opf cpu is high because in Live 08 is too easy driving to the rim.
I think only the best highflyer and great insiders/slashers players have this easy life...

Is there a way by the sliders to eliminate (or minimize) those shitty lay-ups where the player hits the rim with the ball like he has never played basketball before? It happens when the player is below the rim (not always).

And I have a little problem with the CPU substitution. The stars of the CPU team don't play the last minutes of the game. It's like they play almost the entire game and are too tired at the end. I'm playing 5 minutes, superstar with fatigue effect on High.
Thanks...

So saatanus sliders are good? Do they work ok for 8 minute quarters?

What kinds of scores and stats do you get?

Cheers.

Not as far as I know, unless it can be done by both users replacing a settings file.

So whats the verdict on the best PC sliders for realistic stats and gameplay?

Ive only just got the game. Im about 8 or 9 games into my dynasty and I'm getting bored with the gameplay out of the box. I play superstar 8 mins at the moment and its too easy driving to the hoop all day long for dunks, while i cant shoot to save myself.

i think ive only hit 1 or 2 three pointers so far!

And Kirk Heinrich is a league leading rebounder.

The players will still take and make too many dunks.
Lay-ups in traffic will be missed.
Crazy Layups will be missed.
Open Jumpers and open layups will go in.
GO TO Moves still work.
Field goal percentages will be down, but still a bit too high.
Charges will be taken.
Players will get into foul trouble.

Overall this should give you a more simulation like experience.

PC Sliders for level Superstar 8 minutes please. I always seem to win with all tha slider i've tried except for lagoa's hardcore slider. it seems impossible to win with that slider. i want to have some close games and lose some games.

Edit: i notice that changin camera view to broadcast makes tha game a little harder becuz im used to baseline view. to have a close game i would say lower user's layup percentage, freestyle effectiveness, dunk vs layup freq. and game speed. and raise up the cpu shooting percentage or have it as the same as the user's
