Philadelphia 76ers: The Rebuilding Story

Postby dascoot on Tue Feb 24, 2015 10:17 am

After trading away on draft night in 2013 Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans for Nerlens Noel, it was obvious that the Philadelphia 76ers decided to go into rebuilding mode. In 2013 also they selected Michael Carter- Williams but was recently traded to Milwaukee. In 2014 the Philadelphia 76ers selected with the 3rd pick 7 foot center Joel Embiid out of the University of Kansas. Embiid has been compared to the next Hakeem Olajuwon, it's clear they are trying to find solid pieces in this rebuilding process. The 76ers decided to take on the contract of Javale McGee for a first round pick who has two years left on his deal. Will the Sixers trade McGee who knows?

New GM Scott Meckley will get to take over as the new GM of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Today Scott sat down with ESPN and answered their questions about the position

ESPN: How are you feeling about being the new GM of the Philadelphia 76ers

Scott: I am very excited to be here in Philadelphia. I have loved this team since the days of Allen Iverson.

ESPN: Are you planning to tank this season?

Scott: I personally don't like the word tank, I prefer to call it rebuilding through the draft, and possibly free agency.

ESPN: What are your plans for this franchise?

Scott: To try and draft the best talent available, and if the right free agent or free agents come along I will spend the money to get them to come to Philadelphia, I want to build a dynasty with mostly young pieces, with an occasionally veteran or two

ESPN: How long do you think the rebuild will take?

Scott: It all depends on if we draft correctly, and make the right moves, my plan is two to three years.

ESPN: Why are you choosing to rebuild?

Scott: Getting 7th or 8th seed, and bounced out of the first round is stuck in lukewarm ground. I choose to start small and rise up. Remember Rome wasn't build in a day and neither is an NBA team.

ESPN: What player or players are you choosing to build this team around?

Scott: Joel Embiid, Nerlens Noel and my young draft picks.

ESPN: What future free agents are on your target list?

Scott: I would prefer to keep that under wraps and surprise everyone

ESPN: Okay thank you for your time

Scott: No problem

Welcome to the Philadelphia 76ers: The Rebuilding story, most of the first season will be simulated, I will let you know who won and give you stats. I will also list who the draft picks are. I will try to hopefully get some video highlights too. So sit back relax, and if you are a fan of rebuilding underdog teams. I encourage you to keep reading this. Thank you and enjoy.

Jason Richardson 25 points lead Sixers to win over Pacers in season opener

Having been out since 2013 with injuries, it was a mystery if J-Rich would ever return to the NBA. It's good great that he is back. He scored 25 points to help the Philadelphia 76ers defeat the Indiana Pacers in the 80-78 season opener. Coach Brett Brown said " It is great to start off the season with a win especially on the road against a tough team like the Pacers the last few seasons. It's great to have a roster filled with some low post defense in Joel Embiid and Nerlens Noel. Nerlens Noel played his first NBA game, after having to sit out all of last season recovering from knee surgery. Noel was solid in his debut with 14 points and 8 rebounds on 6 of 9 shooting from the field. Noel played 35 minutes of action and was saying " It felt good to be out on the court helping my team get this win". I enjoy playing alongside Joel Embiid in the paint". I know everyone is wondering how did Joel Embiid do. He scored 4 points and 5 rebounds, on 2 of 3 shooting in 26 minutes of action. Embiid said " well i didn't start my first game getting a lot of touches" , but I am going to continue to work on my game". " I want to be one of the most dominate centers in the NBA". Hollis Thompson scored 12 points on 4 of 10 shooting off the bench, and new comer Javale McGee achieved a double-double off the bench with 10 points and 12 rebounds on 5 of 6 shooting. The Sixers acquired Mcgee to take on his contract to get a first round pick. McGee is looking like a solid guy coming off the bench. The Sixers shot 43 percent for the game.

For the Indiana Pacers Paul George lead the way with 26 points, 8 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks. CJ Miles scored 14 points. Point guard George Hill added 13 points 6 assists, 5 rebounds on 6 of 11 shooting. Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel said " I thought we were to going to win this game, " but the Sixers found a way to get the job done at the end" . The Pacers shot 45 percent for the game.

The Bucks defeat the Sixers in a low scoring game. Scoring 75 points in most games you wouldn't think would be enough points to win in most NBA games, but not in this one. Bad shooting from both teams is mostly what made this is a low scoring game. What helped the Bucks was that the Sixers only shot 29 percent while the Bucks shot 39 percent. Most nights if a team shoots 39 percent they won't win the basketball game, but tonight the Bucks defensive helped with that. The final was Milwaukee 75 , Philadelphia 55

SIXERS MAKE A TRADE:

The Sixers have been looking for a way to part with turnover prone combo guard Tony Wroten. Scott Meckley GM of the Sixers says " I just don't see Tony Wroten as a key piece to our future rebuild" so I am looking for a first round and a an expiring contract back.

The Philadelphia 76ers trades Tony Wroten, Henry Sims, 2016 2nd round pick to Detroit for Cartier Martin and 2015 1st round pick. Cartier Martin was a 1 year 1.13 M dollar contract, and we get rid of two year Wroten and Henry Sims. I hating giving up Henry Sims, but I'm sure I could replace him in this draft. The goal is to send scouts out there to help us make a great decision or decisions in this draft Scott Meckley said". " I'm not sure we'll make some noise this year" but i look into 2015-2016 or 2016-2017 for us to at least be in the playoffs in the second round or better. Scott Meckley GM of the Sixers said " I believe in baby steps" , but wanting to get to the playoffs in a reasonable amount of time, with some young pieces, a veteran or two and getting the right players here. One bad chemistry player could send back the franchise some years" .

What are your thoughts about this trade?

Up Next and Some sad Sixers News

The Sixers are at 3-3 and will play the 4-1 Atlantic Division Toronto Raptors next

Some sad news today for Philadelphia 76ers fans, Nerlens Noel is out for 6 to 8 weeks with a broken ankle. Brett Brown is considering trying out 2nd round pick rookie Jermani Grant to play at power forward to see what happens. The starting five is going to be C- Joel Embiid, PF- Jermani Grant, SF- Luc Mbah A Moute, SG- Cartier Martin and PG- Tim Frazier. Coach Brett Brown said " I love the defense of Jermani Grant and I want to see what he can do for us.

Embiid's big scoring nights helps Sixers win over Raptors

In spite Embiid's back issue during the off-season, I was feeling that a big man force of Embiid and Noel will be interesting in the years to come for this Sixers franchise. Tonight Joel Embiid's had an amazing scoring and shooting night. Embiid scored 32 points, 7 rebounds and shot 12 of 18 from the field to help the Sixers defeat the Raptors 108-100. Following (Y) Interested to see where you take my Sixers. I didn't like the Wroten trade but you did land a first rounder which will help in the draft..Are you using a Created Draft Class, or Auto-Generated? Oh and where is Isaiah Cannan? Good Luck!!

Auto generated. I will be talking about some of the players in later posts so stay tuned for that. I loved getting a first rounder back for Wroten, even though I hated giving up Henry Sims. I do have Isaiah Canaan, Javale McGee who I've liked as a backup so far. McGee contract will be off the books in 2016 which I could make a push for Kevin Durant or some other player. What will I do? Free agency options too next season and 2016 too. Two first round draft picks, will I land a top pick, lottery or a mid round pick. Stay tuned for more stories. Am hoping to try and get a phone with some quality video , so I can show you draft picks and games for next year. This year will be mostly stories, stats and information about trades. Am hoping you enjoy this so far. Rebuilding is a lot of fun. Am hoping to be the next Oklahoma City Thunder with two young stars. I'm feeling that Joel Embiid will be a star for us, Nerlens Noel will be a solid defensive specialist, and am looking for another scorer or two to start, plus some bench. While my motto is defense wins championship, you also have to have some guys who can score and put the ball in the basket. So what are my next moves? I will also talk about some match ups like Nerlens Noel VS Anthony Davis, rookie match up Joel Embiid VS Andrew Wiggins.
