Rose did all he could, causing a nightmare for Marcus Smart.

Jazz outlast Lakers in epic, triple-OT thriller

Recap | Box Score | Highlights Image

MVP: The Jazz seemed to have this under control, leading by 14 heading into the fourth and up by 11 with 2.30 left. But the Lakers rallied, led by Rose and Mirotic. When it got to OT, Jaylen took charge. As Anthony Davis led the way in regulation, Brown scored 20 points in 3 overtime periods, racking up 45 points in total. He did miss potential game-winners at the end of regulation and 2nd OT, but he had scored the last 6 points of the third OT to seal the game.

LVP: Emmanuel Mudiay has been a front-runner for sixth man of the year for the Lakers, but didn't make a meaningful contribution. Despite the length of this game, he had just 4 points and 3 assists in 15 minutes. He's been averaging 15 points this season.

X-Factor: Nerlens Noel has been quiet in his new role, but had a great impact right out the gate. In his first 7 minutes, Noel had already 12 points and 5 rebounds, crashing the glass against the smaller front-court of the Lakers. He finished with with 16 points and 5 rebounds and arguably should have played more down the stretch.

Rose in a Lakers uniform is just wrong. :P Good to see you're still kicking ass. You've got maybe the best duo in NBA history.

That Lakers squad was built by my cousin, a big Bulls fan. You can tell with Rose, Mirotic and Butler. :D

I might trade Newman or someone so the offense relies on Brown and Davis more. Davis averages about 16 a game, while he should be around the 25 mark. He's 96 overall ffs.

Newman had a career-night.

Newman explodes off the bench in 49-point riot.

Recap | Box Score | Highlights Image

MVP: Jaylen Brown and Anthony Davis combined for 19 points and yet, the Jazz won by 49. Why? Malik Newman came off the bench and scored 49 points. He has been up-and-down in his new role, but seemed very comfortable tonight. A new career-high for points. He had 28 at half-time while the Jazz led 75-36. Brown, Davis and others laid back and let Newman enjoy the game. He was scoring with ease against any defender the Warriors threw at him.

LVP: The Warriors starters. The starting line-up scored 35 points while the Jazz bench scored 87. Ty Lawson had 6 points and 1 assist and was -36.

X-Factor: Josh Smith scored a season-high 20 points on 10-11 shooting in season-high 19 minutes. He missed all 4 foul shots, but it was impressive that all freebies were for potential 3-point plays. The Jazz shot 64% from the field and 45% from deep. While they still struggle at the line - just 54% (13-24).

Never thought I'd see Rose in a Lakers uniform. #LakerGoals

Newman had an amazing night. Not bad for a player who comes off the bench.

Newman is instant offense, love using him.

I simulated the All-Star weekend as the game kept crashing when I tried to play either the Rookie game or the ASG, would have love to use Newman and Jaylen in them. (Jaylen was my only all-star ffs)

With Newman dropping 49 his stock would be really high at this time in real life, it would be a good time to trade him if you wanted a more prominent role for Anthony Davis.

Trade deadline in 24 hours - will Newman be traded?
Image

Èver since losing his starting SG position, 2nd year guard Malik Newman has seen his name pop up in trade rumors. His averages are down across the board from his rookie year and moving to a substitute role has come with decreased minutes.

Newman's reduced role could also be a reflection on the emergence of Jaylen Brown, who has more then doubled his scoring average this year as he seems to be running away with the MVP trophy this year. But Newman isn't the only one.

Anthony Davis, possibly the best big man in the game today, isn't anywhere near to the numbers he averaged in Minnesota, though he has seen his scoring and rebounding numbers jump slowly the past few months. Also, he is still leading the league in blocks. But still, having so many scorers on your team has it's downside and all's not well in Utah despite their spectacular record.

With Davis being a once in a generation big man and Brown playing Jordan-esque this year, Newman seems the man out. Sixth man role has seen his play improve, as he gets to be the primary scorer when the bench comes on. You can't help but compare his situation to James Harden's with the Thunder. Newman has the potential and has shown he can be as good if not better then Harden and the Jazz don't want to lose him for nothing, but taking the first deal that comes along isn't good for the franchise either.

Calls have been made, but the Jazz haven't really seen a deal they like. And with Championship aspirations, is it really worth it to make such a major move mid-season? Plus, he is still in his second year. The Jazz have him for 2 more years at least on a cheap rookie deal and a lot can change in that time.

"All I know is I am in Utah right now and all I'm looking forward to is the next game. I can't control anything else," said Newman when asked for comment on his situation.

The Jazz will have tough decisions ahead of them. Anthony Davis is locked up, as are Nerlens Noel, Marcus Smart and Stanley Johnson. Jaylen Brown is eligible for extension next summer and then, Newman can seek his money. Keeping everyone is not going to be easy and acquiring cheap veterans for the bench is essential.

But for now, we have to wait 24 hours to see what the Jazz will do.

Oh man, its been a year...

I think it goes without saying, but just to close this correctly - my computer died along with everything in it, so I can't use this amazing team anymore. It's good to see the real Jaylen Brown in the league however, after seeing this you know what to expect from him in the future - 35-7-6 roughly.

I can see that the board is getting some life back, I haven't decided on whether to start a story again, a lot has changed in the league since I was active. Although running with his young Miami team should be fun. So we'll see.

Thanks to those who checked this one out and my previous ones! :)
