Hi I have been doing some work on ways to keep NBA 2K14 interesting, with the regular season coming to and end. About 2 years ago a guy named scottyogers10 made some in-depth challenges for a few teams. I have used his first few ideas and modified them a little for some different franchises. I will try and do one of each of the initial 7 challenge types.

These are the first 7 challenge types:

All in Approach - Go all out for a star, and try and make a finals run.
The Choice is Yours - Build a balanced offensive team, long athletic defensive team, or a big 3.
Living with Past Mistakes - Rebuild an organisation mostly through the draft.
Reliving Past Glories - Build a team in the model of a previous good team from your franchise.
Tandem Duo headed to... - Get a dynamic duo to play for your team and challenge for a title.
Serching for a go to man - Trading to get a star to build your team around.
Reloading for continued dominance - Supplementing your core to challenge for a title again.

I am planning to add some more variations of these challenges in the next few days and weeks. Most of these can be adapted to fit a lot of different franchises.

I need some help from the NLSC community on this one. When I have posted the first example of each challenge, feel free to copy it down and modify it to suit another franchise in a similar situation. You can then PM me with the ideas and then I can post it here and give you credit.

And once again just to state I am using scottyrogers10s ideas for the challenges. If he's out there somewhere, I really liked your work and I hope to build and on what you've done in NBA 2K12. I think it needs to be brought to a wider audience and I will fully give you credit for your time and work on the previous challenges.

With the NBA regular season now completed you must use the official 2k roster download for the 17th of April 2014. You must start your season at the beginning of the 2013-14 season using this roster.

Title: Stockton to Malone 2.0 Rebuilding the Jazz.

Intro: Glad to have you here in Utah, our organization is on to something that I feel will be even more successful with you at the helm. Seems like our team went instantly from the top to the bottom and now here we are in a rebuilding phase again. We have yet to figure out how to continually be successful year in and year out without any drop offs. So here we are with a bottom of the pack Western Conference team again. We need your help to turn things around here and help us make the right moves so we can finish up our rebuilding process and become contenders again. As an organization we have already gotten a few really nice picks in the draft in recent years and are looking to build a roster around the likes of Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors and Trey Burke. Our front office has decided that we are going to follow the strategy of the 90′s Finals Teams. A top class point guard and power forward are necessary to build this team around. We have plenty of ideas in ways that we feel you will be able to fill out our roster and get the kind of guys we want on our team. Take a look below and see all of our goals and tasks that we expect to see you follow and accomplish.


Roster Rules: Pre-Season 1

1) You can decide whether or not you want to trade away our picks or not, either way we are ok with.
2) Once we have our opening day roster we are not going to change it until the off-season. Unless you are under 15 wins by Trade Deadline
3) We want to be a team that can stay together and grow as a unit in the future so no players should be over the age of 30 with the exception of our veteran leaders: Richard Jefferson and 2 others of your choice.
4) We have a couple of foundation pieces already put in place so take a look below at the players we don’t want to get rid of.

Roster Tasks: Pre-Season 1

1) Keep one of our young guys Trey Burke or Derrick Favors. If you trade one of these players, you must replace him with a better player at this position.
2) Lets trade and find one of the top point guards or power forwards in the league.
3) We need to find a top 3 point shooter at the shooting guard position.
4) Focus on finding players with high defensive ratings, especially at small forward and center.

1) Don’t trade during the Off-Season unless we did not meet any of our goals, in which case trade as much as possible to get cap space and go after one of the top free agent pgs/pfs.
2) Be as aggressive as our salary cap will allow us to be in free agency.

Roster Rules: Seasons 2-5
1) No trading after the season starts.
2) Always have a point guard and power forward of 78 ovr or higher

Team Goals: Seasons 2-5

1) Win an NBA Title by year 5
2) Always have one of the top 10 Defensive Teams in League (Rating on Screen before Game Starts)
3) Win the Defensive Player of the Year Award
4) Have 2 players named to one of the All-Defensive teams in the same year at least 1 time.
5) Make it to the Finals 2 years in a row (Back to Back Western Conference Finals)

Association Settings: All Seasons

1) If you are not playing on Hall of Fame you must increase the Difficulty during playoffs to Hall of Fame.
2) If not playing on Hall of Fame mode, every 2 years you must increase the difficulty level.
3) I play 82 game seasons and this was written for 82 game seasons, if you sim you should play 1 game for every 4 games you sim.
4) This was also written under the guidelines of 10 min quarters and 12 min simulated quarters.
5) Trade Override: Off
6) Team Chemistry: On
7) Player Roles: On (Must have 5 Starters, 1 Sixth Man, 2 Role Players and the rest must be set to Bench Warmers)

Title: The Choice Is Yours: The Cleveland Cavaliers Association Story Line

Intro: Congratulations you have been given the reigns of the Cleveland Cavaliers. You are now the new GM and in full control over the future success of this organization. But of course you will need to meet multiple goals in order to secure your new gig as boss. The organization has been a bottom of the pack playoff team for quite some time now since the departure of LeBron James. With the current roster it doesn’t appear that you will be getting to the conference finals any time soon needless to say the NBA finals. Not with teams like Miami and Indiana competing in the East. This is where you come in as the new GM and having the task of putting a new look and group of players on the court that can compete immediately. Your number one objective: Bringing a championship to Cleveland, a NBA championship that is. Your current roster is full of assets so we do expect to see results in the near future, and what I mean by that is this year. With our current roster we as a staff will need to sit down and discuss each player and where they stand as members of the Cleveland Cavaliers. But before we get to that I will need to ask you a few questions so that we can get a good feel for what type of team you are wanting to assemble. We as an organization believe in being on the same page at all times and communication is key to that success.

* In the next portion of this story line you will need to answer these questions for yourself in finding out what type of team you want to build. Follow the instructions given throughout and we will be sure to put a contender in front of our fans in Cleveland. Depending on your response you will follow the number next to the answer and read on to the next question.

Questions: Answer The Next Few Questions for Us

First order of business is finding a style of play. You must decide first off what type of team you want it to be. What is the primary make up of your new look Cavs? In the past we have been known for having a very talented team and yet pretty balanced on both sides of the ball. But we do know that most often times teams favour one side of the ball more than the other. What is it that you would prefer building a team around?
(1) Balanced Offensive Team
(2) Long, Athletic Defensive Team

* If you have chosen to be a balanced offensive team then continue reading at the (1) if you are wanting to build a long, athletic defensive team then skip on down to the paragraph in the article starting with (2)

(1) I like the way you think we should definitely put together a team that can put the ball in the basket. I find it impressive that you want to put a major focus on balancing out our team with not having a single superstar but rather by having multiple threats and players to attack with. Basketball is a team sport and I like the fact that you have found that out already, as so many other teams seem to think the only way to win in the NBA is by having a superstar. I however am not fully sold on the idea… after all the NBA is a copycat league and I told you we are wanting to win NOW and we cannot afford to lose this year, so I really hope for your sake this works out. Are you sure you want to go with a balanced offensive approach?
(1-1) Yes I am sure, this is how I am custom to winning in all of the other organizations and levels that I have been involved in. I will prove to you that we can win and be a contender now in the Eastern Conference.
(1-2) No you are right, on second thought I think we should shake it up a bit and go after superstar players. We will need to copy the blueprint of the Thunder and Heat. Let’s form our own Big Three here in Cleveland!

* If you have chosen to continue to build a balanced offensive team despite the extra pressure put on by your owner then continue reading at the (1-1) but if you are wanting to Form a Big Three of Our Own then skip on down to the paragraph in the article starting with (1-2)

(1-1) Ok but it is your neck you are putting on the line. You can’t say I didn’t warn you. If you are wanting to put together a balanced offensive team on the court then there are a few rules and guidelines that we will need to lay out that are specific to this build of a team.

Roster Rules for (1-1) Balanced Offensive Team: Pre-Season 1

a) We have tried to build through the draft the last few years and we do not want to play this game again… So to us our picks are now useless, you can trade away as many as you would like.
b) You can make as many trades as needed before our first game but I feel it important to build team chemistry after, so we will not be making any trades after our first game of the year.
c) We don’t want to get rid of all of our players so let’s sit down and discuss which players are expendable and which are off-limits.

Roster Tasks for (1-1) Balanced Offensive Team: Pre-Season 1

a) Our top trading assets are Luol Deng and Dion Waiters, I am thinking we need to get rid of one of them to bring in 2 quality players for the price of 1 so you choose which one but we need to bring in 2 quality players for them. One player needs to be 75 ovr or above and the other needs to have a rating of 70 ovr or better. So you will need to probably package some of our picks away in a deal..

b) Kyrie Irving is our star point guard and has really impressed us, however he is not completely happy here and if you can get a great offer for him we will consider allowing you to trade him. We don’t want another LeBron James situation. We expect a player of 80 ovr or better, or two players of 75 ovr in return minimum.

c) As for the rest of our players on the roster you can do as you please with them but any trade we need to be getting the better player out of each deal. So any time you trade any of our players you will need to trade for some one of a higher rating.

d) All of our starters need to have ratings of 74 or above, and filling in solid backups will help you in the long haul tremendously.

* If you chose to go with (1-1) Balanced Offensive Team then you will need to skip down to our Team Goals at the bottom. If you decided to go with (1-2) Forming a Big Three of Our Own then read below our rules and tasks for the roster.

(1-2) I thought you would come around to the way I think and the way other NBA teams have seen their championship dreams become a reality. Since you are wanting to put together a Big Three here in Cleveland. take a look at some of our roster rules and tasks below. Our roster rules will be the same for any style of team you create but our tasks for what type of players to bring in will obviously change.

Roster Rules for (1-2) Forming a Big Three of Our Own: Pre-Season 1

a) We have tried to build through the draft before and we do not want to play this game again… So to us our picks are useless, you can trade away as many as you would like.
b) You can make as many trades as needed before our first game but I feel it important to build team chemistry after, so we will not be making any trades after our first game of the year.
c) We don’t want to get rid of all of our players so lets sit down and discuss which players are expendable and which are off-limits.

Roster Tasks for (1-2) Forming a Big Three of Our Own: Pre-Season 1

a) We need to keep Kyrie Irving or Dion Waiters and pair them up with other stars in this league, who they will be? I have no idea that’s why I hired you.

b) You have my permission to get rid of all other players on our team in an effort to get three star players on our side playing in Cleveland

c) Our Big Three needs to consist of a player 85 ovr or higher, 83 ovr or higher, and 80 ovr or higher.

d) Fill in our roster with at least one 3 point specialist that can spread the court. Must have an A rating on Outside Scoring.

* If you chose to go with (1-2) Forming a Big Three of Our Own then you will need to skip down to our Team Goals at the bottom as they remain the same for any style of play. If you decided to go with (2) Long, Athletic Defensive Team then read below our rules and tasks for the roster.

(2) Ah now that’s a smart man, you must know that even though offense sells tickets defense wins championships and that is definitely what we are looking for. We need you to assemble a team that is going to out hustle the rest of the league and play tough defense night in and night out. We do want to see a team with plenty of height and length. I would like to see a nasty team assembled that is able to score but by using their defense to get their offense going. We have made a list of different rules and task that we expect to see you implement in our roster. Take a look below and let’s get this team shaped up and fit to play some tough/nasty defense.

Roster Rules for (2) Long, Athletic Defensive Team: Pre-Season 1

a) We have tried to build through the draft before and we do not want to play this game again… So to us our picks are useless, you can trade away as many as you would like.

Roster Tasks for (2) Long, Athletic Defensive Team: Pre-Season 1

a) Keep Luol Deng and Anderson Varejao as they are a force on the defensive side of the court.
b) We need to make sure that all of our starters have at least a B rating in either the category Perimeter Defense or Post Defense.
c) Four of our starters need to be 6’8″ or taller.
d) You don’t have to keep Dion Waiters but the city and fans have been impressed with his explosive play and the potential that he has as a future shooting guard in this league, so keep that in mind.
e) We need to have 1 player on our team that has an A rating in Perimeter Defense and 1 Player with an A rating in Post Defense.

* Regardless of the style of play that you decided on our Team Goals for the Season remain the same, take a look below at our expectations in your first year as boss.

Team Goals: Season 1

a) Win an Eastern Conference Title
b) Finish the Season with a Top 5 Overall Record in the NBA
c) Make the Playoffs with Home Court Advantage in the First Round

a) Not allowed to trade away your top 3 valued players (determined by star rating)
b) Keep the core of the team and structure/play style the same and develop them into better players.

*Bonus Goal - Sign Lebron James in the offseason to supplement your team. We are willing to forgive LeBron and welcome him back home, only if we have not won an NBA title.

Title: Living With Past Mistakes: The Milwaukee Bucks Association Story Line

Intro: Welcome to your new office and home for the years to come here in Milwaukee. As you are aware we are a team that is trying to get out of the slumps and trying to rebuild from scratch, we’ve been a middle of the road team for too long. Things need to change and although it feels like we are constantly having turnover here in Milwaukee, we still are hopeful that you will be the one to steer us back on course for the playoffs. Your task is simple, rebuild the whole organization from ground up. That was a joke, it won’t be easy but let’s see what you can do. As you know this past draft we made what seems to have been one of the smarter first round picks in franchise history. With Giannis Antetokounmpo we are getting tonnes of potential, a naturally gifted athlete with skills that can turn him into one of the top wings in the NBA. Other than him we really have no idea what direction to go, hope you have a plan ready. All I know is there are a few past mistakes that we will have to live with going forward in the future. (OJ Mayo and Zaza Pachulia’s contracts…) We will talk about that more when we sit down as an organization and come up with a basic outline or plan to follow. You will play a key role in helping rebuild this team, and of course we as a front office will be giving you plenty of tasks and objectives to accomplish along the way but for the most part we are going to rely on your managing skills to get us out of this mess.


(Weeks Pass) After going through all of our options we have come to a conclusion of what type of team we want to rebuild and the strategies that will be used to accomplish it. Thanks for your help you contributed a lot to our meeting and we were easily able to see why you got this job. So just to review a few key points to our meeting, we will be rebuilding our team with players that are young and athletic. Also we will rely on the draft tremendously in the first 2 years. As for long-term success we are planning on having a breakout season in year 4. With our four-year plan we see ourselves being a powerhouse in the east in the seasons to follow year 4. Although many might laugh at this vision that we have created, we feel like you are going to bring great things to the city of Milwaukee.

Roster Rules: Pre-Season 1

1) We are not wanting to get rid of any of our first round draft picks for the first two seasons in any of the trades that we construct.
2) You can trade through-out the season up to the trade deadline as much as you feel fit.
3) We are wanting to build a young athletic team, so all players on the roster need to be under the age of 25.
4) Now there are a few players that we are wanting to keep so take a look below at a list of the players we want to keep.

Roster Tasks: Pre-Season 1

1) Giannis Antekounmpo is our future so we will be building our team around him, he is off-limits.
2) John Henson was a player selected in this 2012 draft, keep him on the roster I promise even though he is raw right now we can develop him into the next Serge Ibaka.
3) Nate Wolters was our other player in the 2013 draft, keep him on the roster as his size, athleticism and court vision are vital to taking advantage of our athleticism in the open court.
4) This is going to sound a little weird but I feel like we need to give one of our past players a *Second Chance…. His name is Jimmer Fredette. We traded him away as part of the trade that netted us Stephen Jackson. I don’t feel like he’s ever been given a chance to show how solid a player he can be. He was picked 10th overall in the 2011 draft out of BYU. I know this is crazy but I think he can be a solid shooting guard in the league. Go trade for him and give him 2 full seasons as a starter. You will oversee the development of this young player and will need to make sure he succeeds so as to not make a fool out of the two of us. Give him a *Second Chance and make sure he sees action on the court.
5) As for everyone else, do what’s the best for our team, but remember everyone needs to be 25 years of age or under.
6) Flip our second round picks for another first round pick in this coming draft. You can package them with a player if need be. Make a trade with a team that you feel is going to be bad, because you will not be able to trade after you have seen the draft order.
7) We will need to have 6 players on our team with B ratings or higher in the category: Athleticism.

Team Goals: Season 1

1) Develop Giannis Antetokounmpo by using a Development Drill on him every month of the season.
2) Finish in the bottom 5 teams in the league.
3) Play a Rookie 30+ Min Per Game
4) Have 2 players named to one of the All-Rookie teams.
5) Win the Rookie of The Year Award

Second Chance Goals for Jimmer Fredette: Season 1

1) Improve Points Per Game and Assists per Game over last years stats. More than 7.2 PPG and 1.3 APG
2) Name a Starter at beginning of Season 1.
3) Play 30+ Min Per Game
4) Improve Position Rank Into one of the Top 30 Shooting Guards. Current Rank is 47th amongst active Shooting Guards.

Roster Rules: Off-Seasons 1-4

1) You can sign any Free Agent but their age cannot be more than 25
2) You cannot make any Draft Day Trades for Picks, or Trade away our Picks.
3) We cannot select a Small Forward of Power Forward in the 2015 draft.

Roster Rules: Seasons 2-4

1) Can only trade away 2 players each year before trade deadline, we will need to start building a strong team chemistry after our first season.
2) Never allowed to trade away Nate Wolters, Giannis Antetokounmpo or John Henson
3) No age restrictions on roster after fourth season.
4) Keep at least 6 players on the team with B ratings or higher in the category: Athleticism.

Team Goals: Seasons 2-4

1) Make the Playoffs Twice
2) By Year 4 we need to be a threat in the Eastern Conference so that in future years we can fight for a Title.
3) We need to have at least 4 All Star appearances throughout the seasons by our players.
4) John Henson should be named to an All-Defensive Team by Year 4.
5) Giannis Antetokounmpo should be one of our highest rated players in year 4 with an 80+ ovr. (You will need to use developement drills and send him to camps in the off-seasons.)

Second Chance Goals for Jimmer Fredette: Seasons 2-4

1) Continue to use development drills every month for the next 4 seasons.
2) Send to camps in the off-seasons, the one that allows players to grow their potential might be smart to send him to.
3) Average 17+ PPG
4) Average 3+ APG
5) Named an All-Star in the Eastern Conference
6) Make an All-NBA Team
7) Named Most Improved Player of The Year

Association Settings: All Seasons

Title: All In Approach: The New York Knicks Association Story Line

Intro: As you might have seen on the news and through the media we have just appointed Phil Jackson as President of Basketball Operations. Phil has appointed you as his new General Manager and has set you multiple goals and tasks in building your roster. Your job as GM of the New York Knicks is getting them back to NBA Title contenders in a time frame of 2 years. We expect you will follow his guidelines and help our organization grow and become one of the top teams in the East again.

Phil has won 11 NBA titles with the Triangle Offense. Even though he won’t be coaching, this is a system he expects you to install as General Manager in your careful construction of the roster. We fully believe this is the system which will lead us to success. There are several different factors which go into installing this system.

Your first task will be to hire a coach to run the triangle. (Change the coaches playbook manually to either 98 Bulls or 03-04 Lakers) You can stick with Mike Woodson but a coach with a good offensive rating is important.(B or above) The rest we will outline later on.

As you know we have a huge market here in New York and should be able to gain an edge in free agency and be an attractive destination for the top FA's. So let’s not focus on working through the draft but rather through free agency and getting quality players that are already proven into our organization. We are due to have some major cap-space in the 2015 offseason, but Carmelo Anthony may not be willing to wait that long. He has an opt-out clause after this season and he will expect to see us contending in the Eastern Conference in order to remain with us long term.

We have laid out here for you a list of goals and expectations that we have for you over the next 2 years. Take a look and let us know what you think.

Roster Rules: Pre-Season 1

1) You can trade away any number of picks as you feel necessary.
2) You can trade away any player on the current New York Knicks roster, the only exception is Carmelo Anthony. We gave up a lot to acquire him from Denver and would need a sufficient return if we traded him, or a player of similar calibre.
3) You can make as many trades as you feel necessary before your first game.
4) After the first game you can only trade 2 other players the night of the trade deadline, we need to build our team chemistry.

Roster Tasks: Pre-Season 1

These tasks need to be completed before your first game. Get a roster that you like because you will only be allowed to trade 2 of your players if necessary, on the night of the trade deadline.

1) Trade for one of the top big men (PF or C) in the league. They must have at least a 40 rating in passing. They must also have a B rating or greater in Inside Scoring. Examples include anyone of these guys:

Josh Smith
Pau Gasol
Marc Gasol
LaMarcus Aldridge
Greg Monroe
David Lee
Blake Griffin

(Not all of these trades will be possible/ found in Trade Finder)

2) Trade for a Point Guard of at least 70 ovr. He must have an outside shooting rating of at least B.

3) If you trade for a PF, you must pair him with a Centre who has at least B ratings in Rebounding and Post Defense. If you trade for a Centre you must pair him with a PF with those ratings. Tyson Chandler can fulfil this role, but he may be needed as part of the original trade.

4) Our Jordan or Kobe guy must be a SG/SF. He must be of sufficient calibre to score in a number of ways. Inside and Outside scoring must be at least B+. If you don’t keep Carmelo for the roster you must find a very good replacement. That’s a very small list.

5) If our main guy is a SF then your SG must have at least a B rating in outside shooting, and Perimeter Defense. A passing rating of over 40 is also required. Vice versa if our main guy is a SG.

Team Goals: Season 1

1) Develop our bigman and make him a core piece for your offense. He must be able to take the defense away from our SG/SF.
2) Finish Season over .500
3) Make Playoffs and advance past the first round
4) Win Over 25 of Your Home Games
5) Have 2 Players Named to The All Star Game

*Bonus goal: Sign or trade for any former Lakers. Players who are familiar with the triangle system. i.e; Derek Fisher, Lamar Odom, Luke Walton etc.

Individual Goals: Season 1-2

(Your Big Man)
1) Average Over 15 PPG (Points Per Game)
2) Average Over 3 APG (Assists Per Game)

Title: Tandem Duo Headed to Atlanta: The Atlanta Hawks Association Story Line

Intro: Can you believe that you are where you are? Who would have thought you would make it this far. You know, many people dream of being in the position you are in right now. We welcome you to the front office of the Atlanta Hawks. We’ve been a bit of a treadmill organization for the last few years, regularly losing in the first round of the playoffs. Now it’s wonderful that we reach the playoffs every year, but it’s beginning to wear on the fans and us. The attendance is average at best and barely improves for the playoffs. This is not leaving the organisation in a great place financially and it’s something we need to address or face the dreaded prospect of relocation.

We do have a couple of pieces to the puzzle already in position. Al Horford at Power Forward is our building block. However we are missing a few more pieces and we hope that you’ll be able to find them and put them in place. We must make the right personnel moves and have an impact as a team in the Eastern Conference to set us up for next year and our future.

We’ve had our core guy now for a few years and constantly failed in our efforts to build around him. He has 2 years remaining on his contract so he won’t stay around forever. The last time we were selling out the Arena was when ‘The Human Highlight Reel’ Dominique Wilkins was electrifying crowds. We need to find a similar wing player to entice Horford to stay.

We as a front office will give you goals and guidelines that we will expect you to meet and maintain. This isn’t going to be all fun and games but if you stay on, it should be quite fulfilling. Let’s take a look at our current roster and see what kind of changes we want to make.

Roster Rules: Pre-Season 1

1) Trade as much as needed up to December, after that we should hold off on trades until the offseason.
2) Feel free to trade our draft picks, but it might be smart to save at least 1.
3) We don’t feel like keeping Lou Williams would be a wise move. His contract was a big mistake and is only a 6th man at best. Find a way to trade him.

Roster Tasks: Pre-Season 1

1) We have our centre piece to the puzzle in Al Horford and he’s not going to stick around if we can’t get out of the first round, so let’s find a wingman for Horford and create one of the most talented duos in the game today. Trade for a Shooting Guard or Small Forward that is (75 ovr or higher) currently in the game.
2) You can trade any other players except Al Horford
3) Find a young Power Forward / Center with C+ potential or more to learn and develop behind Al Horford, just in case!
4) Our Center need to have ratings of 70 ovr or above to eliminate the need for Al to play Center. We are convinced his best position is Power Forward.
5) Josh Smith or Joe Johnson are not to be re-acquired.

Team Goals: Season 1

1) Have a winning record at season’s end.
2) Make the Playoffs and get out of the first round.
3) Our Tandem Duo should make the All-Star team to show the league and fans that we are headed in the right direction.
4) Develop our back up PF/C every month, just so that we will have something to work with in case our worst nightmares come true. If you are asking what that could possibly be then read on and find out.

Roster Rules: Off-Season 2-3

1) Be as aggressive as our salary cap will allow us to be in free agency, we need players to build around our Tandem Duo.
2) You can trade as much as you feel necessary throughout the off-season and seasons to come, we will have a lot of trust in you by then. If not trust me you will be gone, don’t blow this or waste any time in building up a title contender.

1) There are no roster rules other than if any from season 1 still apply. Just build our team up as fast as possible.

1) Play in an Eastern Conference Final by season 2.

4) We expect multiple titles at some point in the near future so that should always be your goal each year: To put together a Contender.

Title: Showtime 2.0 Rebuilding the Lakers.

Intro: Glad to have you here in Los Angeles, our organization is in desperate need of a major revamp, so Mitch Kupchak has been fired, and we are giving you the reigns.

Seems like our team went instantly from the top to the bottom and now here we are in a rebuilding phase. We got badly burned by Dwight Howard leaving this summer and have been forced to hit the reset button. However there is a major roadblock. Kobe’s contract expires this off-season and he has said he will leave unless we are very competitive or he gets a contract worth over $22 million a season. This would make him virtually untradeable next season. You need to decide whether to keep him or trade him this year. Keep in mind that he has a No Trade Clause.

We have to figure out how to continually be successful year in and year out again and regain our spot in the playoffs. We need your help to turn things around here and help us make the right moves so we can quickly complete our rebuilding process and become contenders again.

We already have a superstar in place with Kobe Bryant, and although Kobe cannot carry the team alone anymore, he can still be our closer. We must consider carefully whether we keep him around for the final years of his career, or move him for some younger building blocks.

Our front office has decided that we are going to follow the strategy of the highly successful 80’s Showtime Lakers teams. Mike D’Antoni has been hired to preach this philosophy but we do not currently have the roster to fulfill this. An old broken down roster cannot outrun anyone. We want to have the best offensive team in the league.

Steve Nash has been acquired this summer by Mitch, but he is 39 years old. If need be you can move him straight away. A top class point guard and post player are necessary to build this team around. We have plenty of ideas in ways that we feel you will be able to fill out our roster and get the kind of guys we want on our team. Take a look below and see all of our goals and tasks that we expect to see you follow and accomplish.


Roster Rules: Pre-Season 1

1) You can decide whether or not you want to trade away our picks or not, either way we are ok with. Winning is our priority.

2) Once we have our opening day roster we are not going to change it until the off-season. Unless you are under 15 wins by Trade Deadline.

3) We want to be a team that can stay together and grow as a unit in the future so no players should be over the age of 30 with the exception of the veteran leaders you can choose to keep 3 from:

4) We have a couple of good young players already in place so take a look below at the players we should try to keep and develop. Kendall Marshall and Xavier Henry. They fit the Showtime style perfectly.

• Or 2 #1 draft picks and one under 25 years old 75+ rated player. Try to gain some cap relief with the trade also.

If you decide to keep him, you must sign him to a contract extension of at least $22 million as soon as possible.

Title: Thrown to the Wolves.


Intro: Congratulations you have been given the reigns of the Minnesota Timberwolves. You are now the new GM and in full control over the future success of this organization. But of course you will need to meet multiple goals in order to secure your new gig as boss. The organization has been a non-playoff team for quite some time now even before the departure of Kevin Garnett in 2007. With the current roster it doesn’t appear that you will be getting to the conference finals any time soon needless to say the NBA finals. Not with teams like San Antonio, Oklahoma City and the LA Clippers competing in the West.

Our main concern going forward is the future of our franchise power forward Kevin Love. He has become very frustrated with the organization. He has stated numerous times that he wants to be traded; he will not sign long term with us, and will test the free agent market once his contract is up in 2 years time. At the same time he has also stated that he would like to remain in Minnesota if we could put a winning team together.

The Kevin Love trade saga has put our organization in a state of uncertainty. It will be up to you to handle this situation the best way possible and turn our team into a championship level team. Our current roster is full of players with horrible contracts and we are really looking to get rid of a lot of them. With some of these contracts we as a staff need to sit down and discuss each player and where they stand as members of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

We are looking to acquire players that are very athletic, versatile, and can create their own shots. As far as Kevin Love, whether you want to keep him or trade him, I am on board with whatever your decision is. If you do decide to trade him, I would fully support the idea of going through a rebuilding process and working from the draft.

I will need to ask you a few questions so that we can get a good feel for what type of team you are wanting to assemble. We as an organization believe in being on the same page at all times and communication is key to that success.


The Big Question: Answer the following for us…
First off you have to decide on how you plan on moving forward with this team. As I stated before the Kevin Love situation has our organization by the neck and before you can do anything you have to decide on how you wish to handle that. One thing is for certain though, WE REFUSE TO LET HIM WALK AS A FREE AGENT AND GET NOTHING IN RETURN.

Regardless of what you decide to do, getting rid of bad contracts is a MUST. We think it would be good to look into trying to find more versatile players that can attack the rim and create their own shot at any moment. As stated before none of this can be done until the Kevin Love situation is resolved. How would you like to move forward with our organization?

Ah now that’s a smart man, you must know that even though offense sells tickets defense wins championships and that is definitely what we are looking for. We need you to assemble a team that is going to out hustle the rest of the league and play tough defense night in and night out. Kevin Love’s strong point is not his defense and we need to cover his lapses to allow him to shine on the boards and on offense.

We want to get a team on the floor with plenty of height and length. Also a team that always thinks defense first, and are able to score by using their defense. We have made a list of different rules and task that we expect to see you implement in our roster. Take a look below and let’s get this team shaped up and back to playing that Timberwolves defense that got us to the Western conference finals in 03-04.

Gorgui Dieng is off limits to being traded, he has the potential to become a defensive anchor.

We need to make sure that all of our starters have at least a B rating in either the category Perimeter Defense or Post Defense.

Clear cap space and get rid of two of our big contracts. (Out of Kevin Martin, Chase Budinger, and Nikola Pekovic).

Outside of Kevin, we need to have two players on our team that have an A rating in Perimeter Defense and two players with an A rating in Post Defense.
These must be bench players.

Try to sign a new Head Coach with a defensive rating of at least B.


IF YOU DECIDED TO GO WITH (2) FORMING A BIG THREE OF OUR OWN THEN READ BELOW OUR RULES AND TASKS FOR THE ROSTER.

Although I am very cautious about this idea, I am willing to give it a try and see where this goes. With this formula I have seen other teams reach their championship aspirations by forming a Big Three. Since you want to build a Big Three here in Minnesota take a look at some of our roster rules and tasks below. The roster rules will be the same for any style of team you create but our tasks for what type of players to bring in will obviously change.

ROSTER RULES FOR FORMING A BIG THREE: PRE-SEASON 1

• In recent years, building through the draft has not been our team’s strong point and our organization is not willing to continue to try this approach. Our draft picks really do not mean anything to us, so you may trade them if you wish.
• You can make as many trades as needed before our first game but I feel it’s important to build team chemistry after, so we will not be making any trades after our first game of the year, until the month of February.
• We want to get rid of a lot of big contracts, but there are certain players we don’t want to get rid of, so let’s sit down and discuss which players are expendable and which are off-limits.

ROSTER TASKS FOR FORMING A BIG THREE: PRE-SEASON 1

• Keeping Kevin Love in this situation is a must. We will need to pair him up with two other all-star talent players. I will leave that decision up to you as to who those players will be.
• Creating cap space and getting rid of big contracts is a MUST. With that being said, all players except Kevin are eligible to be traded in an effort to get two star players in Minnesota.
• The two players we bring in to create the Big Three must have a rating of 80 overall or higher.
• The two players we bring in MUST be the position of Small Forward, and or Point Guard, or Shooting Guard.
• Because we are still one of the better three point shooting teams in the league, keep at least two three point specialist that can spread the floor. They MUST have an A rating on Outside Scoring.



IF YOU DECIDED TO GO WITH (3) TRADE KEVIN LOVE THEN READ BELOW OUR RULES AND TASKS FOR THE ROSTER.

So I see that you have decided the best way for our organization to move forward is to trade Kevin Love. We both know that he is very unhappy here and has mentioned this plenty of times. I think we should just go ahead and trade him and get our franchise back on track. There’s plenty of ways we can go about this. We can trade Kevin and get back a bunch of draft picks and young players in return. I feel that by taking this route and trading Kevin, we should start to model our franchise after the Oklahoma City Thunder’s team, by building through the draft. We could also trade Kevin for almost equal talent. This would definitely mean an all-star player in return. How do you wish to handle Kevin’s trade situation?

(3-1) I feel the best way for our franchise to move forward is to let Kevin go and acquire young talent and draft picks in return. I have seen how successful the Thunder have been by building through the draft and with their core of young players, and that is the route I feel is best to take. I understand that our team will go through some type of slump, but I feel with patience and developing our newly acquired players, we will return to being one of the top teams in the West. I will accept nothing but young talent and a bunch of early first round draft picks in exchange for Kevin’s services.

(3-2) The best way to handle this situation is to trade Kevin for a player with almost equal talent. It doesn’t matter which position, but I would require someone of the same all-star talent. Please understand though, what I will be looking for a player of the same position or close to it, but if push comes to shove I will definitely take whatever all-star talent I can find. By using this approach, we will be able to continue building towards a championship, and will not have to worry about a serious fall off.

*IF YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO TRADE KEVIN AND ACQUIRE YOUNG PLAYERS IN RETURN THE CONTINUE READING AT THE (3-1) PARAGRAPH, BUT IF YOU WANT TO TRADE KEVIN AND RECEIVE A PLAYER OF ALL STAR TALENT THEN SKIP ON DOWN TO THE PARAGRAPH STARTING WITH (3-2).

(3-1)I fully support your decision to take our team and completely start over. We understand this will not be an easy process but we are confident we will be fine and come out great from it. Just the fact of Kevin Love not holding the organization hostage anymore, should make things a little less stress free around here. Since you want to start over and acquire young players, there are a few guidelines and rules that we will need to lay out that are specific to this build of a team.


ROSTER TASKS FOR (3-1) TRADING KEVIN FOR YOUNG TALENT AND STARTING OVER: PRE-SEASON 1

• As I said getting rid of big contracts is a MUST. Kevin Martin, Chase Budinger and Nikola Pekovic are players whose contracts that would be nice to get rid of. The only way to get anything in return for these guys is to trade them and receive expiring contracts of players in return. I am thinking that we should find multiple quality players, with low salaries, sign them to one year deals, and make sure they add up to the enormous salaries to one of our players. I’ll let you choose, but before our first game two of these three players need to be traded. In return we need to bring in at least 3 quality players. These players cannot and will not be older then the age of 24. Also all players needs to be a 70 overall or.

• Ricky Rubio, Corey Brewer and Gorgui Dieng are absolutely off limits. Since Kevin is leaving town, Ricky will be our new team captain. Once his deal is over, sign him to an extension of his liking.

• As for the rest of our players on the roster you can do as you please with them but any trade we need to be getting younger and the better player out of each deal. So any time you trade any of our players you will need to trade for some one of a higher rating.

• Remember all new players you receive in trades need to be no older than 24.

• Also each player that you received must have a rating of a B or higher in Inside Scoring, Athleticism, and Basketball I.Q.

• All of our starters need to have ratings of 71 or above, and filling in solid backups will help you in the long haul tremendously.

*IF YOU CHOOSE TO GO WITH (3-1) YOU WILL NEED TO SKIP DOWN TO OUR TEAM GOALS AT THE BOTTOM. IF YOU DECIDED TO GO WITH (3-2) THEN READ BELOW OUR RULES AND TASKS FOR THE ROSTER.

I instead prefer to receive a player with all-star talent and continue doing everything we would have done as if we were to keep Kevin. Because you want to receive someone of all-star caliber in return, take a look at some of our roster rules and tasks below.

1) If you are not playing on Hall of Fame you must increase the difficulty during playoffs to Hall of Fame.

3) This was written for 82 game seasons, if you sim you must play 1 game out of every 5, never simulating more than 4 in a row.
4) This was also written under the guidelines of 10 min quarters and 12 min simulated quarters.

What did you mean on this:
If you trade for a PF, you must pair him with a Centre who has at least B ratings in Rebounding and Post Defense. If you trade for a Centre you must pair him with a PF with those ratings. Tyson Chandler can fulfil this role, but he may be needed as part of the original trade.

So basically you need a high scoring and passing post player. But his defense doesn't need to be any good. think Kevin Love. So you pair him with a tough defender like Tyson Chandler or Larry Sanders types and it covers their weakness. Essentially you could stick with Stoudemire and Chandler, but Stoudemire hasn't been the solution for the Knicks so far.

Or vice versa if you take a scoring center like Greg Monroe, you might need a defensive power forward, like Josh Smith or Kevin Garnett type player to cover his poor defense.

Essentially to upgrade for the scoring post player you may need to trade Chandler. But if you can turn say Stoudemire and parts into the scoring post player, then you can keep Chandler to play alongside him.
