On May 16, 2013, the Maloof family reached agreement to sell the Sacramento Kings to a group led by Silicon Valley tech entrepreneur Vivek Ranadivé for a record NBA franchise valuation of $535 million. The new owners intend to keep the team in Sacramento and want to bring back the success that the team had back in the early 2000s. The Kings have not renewed the contracts of their general manager, Geoff Petrie, their head coach, Keith Smart or assistant coach, Mario Elie. Ranadivé wants to take the Kings to success, and it starts today.

With new owners, come new beginnings.

New Kings owner Ranadivé signs Chris Webber as new GM

Image

24th May, 2013 - New Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé has signed NBA great Chris Webber to be the new general manager of the Sacramento Kings. Ranadivé stated that he wanted a general manger who not only knew the game, but also the city, the team and the fans. Webber has stated that he is ecstatic about his new position and hopes to bring success to the team.

"It's a dream come true to be a part of a team so close to your heart after you retire from the game. I hope to bring success to this franchise." said Webber at a conference.

The Kings however are still yet to find their new coaching staff however they are speculated to hire them in the coming weeks.

Ray Allen leaves on a high note

1st June 2013 - Ray Allen, the Miami Heay sharp shooter is retiring on a high note, winning an NBA championship. Ray Allen was a major factor in the championship victory hitting a game tying three in game 6 to send the game to an overtime which the Miami Heat won. Elsewhere in the league, Steve Nash is leaving a Lakers team that was speculated to dominate the 2012-13 season but vastly underperformed. Other players retiring include:

Chauncey Billups - LA Clippers
Grant Hill - LA Clippers
Chris "Birdman" Anderson - Miami Heat
Jason Kidd - Dallas Mavericks
Rasheed Wallace - New York Knicks
Marcus Camby - New York Knicks
Stephen Jackson - San Antonio Spurs
Antwan Jamison - LA Lakers

There have been rumours that Grant Hill, Ray Allen, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash will all soon be inducted in to the Hall of Fame.

Kings hire Mitch Richmond as new Head Coach, Bobby Jackson as Assistant Coach

Image

5th June, 2013 - When the Sacramento Kings signed Chris Webber to be their new GM, the people of Sacramento were rejoicing to their hero back on the team. Now not only do Kings fans have Chris Webber to be happy about, but they've also signed Kings great Mitch Richmond to be the Head Coach of the team. Richmond was a prolific scorer for the Kings and was an NBA Champion in 2002 with the LA Lakers.

"Much like Chris, I'm definitely excited to be here. Our team is young, but talented. We have great buildings blocks and I believe that we can become a contender. I look forward to taking this team to new heights
." said Richmond at a press conference, with new GM Chris Webber by his side.

At the press conference Richmond stated that Bobby Jackson, the former Kings point guard whom has been working with the Sacramento Kings the past 3 years will be taking the role of assistant coach. The Sacramento Kings faithful will surely be happy with the signings by the new owner. The team however does lack experience now in both coaching and managing, but only time will tell if new owner Ranadivé is viewed as the savior of the Kings, or the person that set them back.

Cavaliers win draft lottery!

6th June, 2013 - The Cleveland Cavaliers have won the first pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, however with no clear cut #1 pick the Cavs will have a tough time deciding who will pair up with Kyrie Irving. Anthony Bennett, Trey Burke, Nerlens Noel, Ben McLemore and Cody Zeller have all at one point been considered for the #1 pick in various mock drafts. The order of the 2013 NBA Draft is below:

1 - Cleveland Cavaliers
2 - Orlando Magic
3 - Washington Wizards
4 - Charlotte Bobcats
5 - Phoenix Suns
6 - New Orleans Pelicans
7 - Sacramento Kings
8 - Detroit Pistons
9 - Minnesota Timberwolves
10 - Portland Trailblazers
11 - Philadelphia 76ers
12 - Oklahoma City Thunder (from Toronto via Houston)
13 - Dallas Mavericks
14 - Utah Jazz

Sactown Royalty reporting on the Kings draft process. The Kings hold the 7th and 36th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and sources show that they might be looking to add 1 or 2 more draft picks.

Kings 1st Round Draft Prospects

Image Image Image Image Image Image

The Sacramento Kings are currently working out Nerlens Noel, Ben McLemore, Trey Burke, Michael Carter-Williams, Anthony Bennett and Cody Zeller in the hopes that they might find the next superstar for the Kings. Nerlens Noel is projected to go anywhere from 1-7 depending on how teams view his knee injury sustained whilst at Kentucky. McLemore seems to be pushing his way up the ladder and Anthony Bennett seems to be doing the same. Trey Burke seems to be the best point guard in the draft and the Kings would welcome an upgrade at the point, however at 6-foot-6, Michael Carter-Williams seems to be a good option as well.

Kings 2nd Round Draft Prospects

The 2nd round is one of a bit more mystery as no one knows who will fall on draft night. Judging by who the Kings are working out, they are looking for high-upside players in the 2nd. Rudy Gobert, Ricky Ledo, Lucas Nogueria are a few of the high-upside players being looked at. Safer picks that seems to be working out for the Kings as well include Alex Abrines, Isaiah Caanan, Andre Roberson and Jeff Withey.

Free Agent Frenzy!

Image

Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Andre Iguodala, who many considered to be the three top free agents this off-season have signed contracts with the Hawks, Rockets and Spurs respectively.

Dwight Howard whom demanded to be traded last season ended up with an underachieving Los Angeles Lakers team and has now solidified his status as a villain in Los Angeles by decling an offer from the Lakers and instead moving back to his hometown Atlanta Hawks. Dwight joins Josh Smith (who signed a 5-year extension with the team) and Al Horford to create Atlanta's big 3. The new big 3 will be a defensive force with the abilities of Howard, Horford and Smith.

Chris Paul has moved to Houston and decided to pair up with James Harden to form one of the best, if not the best backcourt in the NBA. This move means that Jeremy Lin will take more of a 6th man role which in many fans opinions might be for the best for the Rockets.

Andre Iguodala was traded to the Nuggets after a rebuilding effort by the 76ers in which they aquired Andrew Bynum. Iguodala shocked many by signing with the San Antonio Spurs to help push for one last title in the Tim Duncan era. Iguodala joins Tony Parker, Manu Ginobli, Kawhi Leonard and Tim Duncan to form a squad that will likely push for the NBA finals again next season.

Other free agents to make moves to new teams include J.J. Hickson and J.R. Smith who moved to the Magic, Paul Millsap who moved to the Mavericks, David West who moved to the Cavaliers, Nikola Pekovic who moved to the Jazz, Jerryd Bayless and Nate Robinson who moved to the Pistons and Vince Carter who moved to the Clippers.

Elsewhere, Brandon Jennings, Andrew Bynum, Al Jefferson, Jeff Teague, Manu Ginobli, DeJuan Blair, Rodrigue Beaubois and Tyler Hansborough have signed extensions with their teams.

Sactown Royalty can confirm that the Sacramento Kings have signed Tyreke Evans, Toney Douglas, Cole Aldrich and James Johnson to qualifying offers. All 4 players will be with the Kings for at least one more season however many believe that Douglas and Johnson might be moved before the start of the new NBA season.

Tyreke Evans is expected to sign an extension with the Kings next season. New coach Mitch Richmond has stated that he loves the game of Cole Aldrich as a big off the bench and will push for general manager Chris Webber to re-sign the backup center.

Looking forward to see Anet ... play, he is such a freaky pick (also IRL for the Bucks) since he only has played second division bball in Europe. Good moves getting back some young players.

Yeah I'm very keen to see his development, I feel that he can be a starting SF in the future. Gobert is also a very intriguing prospect.. I'm very happy that I managed to select them both in the 2nd round.

Kings looking to trade for SF

Image Image Image Image

The Sacramento Kings are reportedly looking to trade for a new small forward to fit in to the starting five. General manager Chris Webber has stated over the past month that the team needed upgrades at both the point guard and small forward position. Following the latest NBA draft, the Kings have addressed both these issues however at the moment Trey Burke is the only prospect ready to jump straight in to the starting five. Antetokoumnpo and Snell are both good players however management feels that they are a few years away from impact.

The Kings are looking at trading for either Derrick Williams who has been a tweener forward and considered a let-down for a #2 overall pick, Royce White whom has had many issues in the past with anxiety and at one point refused to play for his team, Thaddeus Young who has been a good player for a young 76ers squad and Chandler Parsons who came in to the NBA as a 2nd round draft pick and quickly solidified his role on the Rockets as a starter.

Which player do you feel would be the best fit for the Sacramento Kings? Have your say by choosing one of the following:

A ) Derrick Williams
B ) Royce White
C ) Thaddeus Young
D ) Chandler Parsons
E ) None of the above

Out of those, I'd take Parsons. Good rebounder, good shooter.

Parsons is probably the best option in the list, as he's probably the truest 3 of those and not a tweener. It just depends on how much you have to give up to get him.

Three team trade between Sacramento, Houston and Detroit

Image Image
Image Image Image
Image Image Image

A three team trade before opening day has happened between the Kings, the Rockets and the Pistons. The Sacramento Kings will recieve Chandler Parsons from the Houston Rockets and a 2nd round draft pick in 2014 from the Detroit Pistons. The Houston Rockets will recieve Kyle Singler and Rodney Stuckey from the Detroit Pistons. The Detroit Pistons will recieve Marcus Thornton and James Johnson from the Sacramento Kings.

The Sacramento Kings have been targeting Chandler Parsons for the past few weeks and finally managed to pull a trigger on the trade. The initial trade fell through due to salary cap reasons and thus the Pistons were involved in the trade. Parsons is expected to jump straight in to the starting five to fill a need at small forward. The trade kicker was the 2nd round pick from the Pistons which judging by the past draft will be thoroughly utlised by the Kings team.

The Houston Rockets will be replacing their small forward with Kyle Singler however in this trade they also recieved Rodney Stuckey who will fill a need as back up to James Harden. The Rockets are expected to make a big push in the playoffs this season after acquiring Chris Paul in free agency.

The Detroit Pistons have replaced their starting shooting guard Rodney Stuckey with Marcus Thornton who will provide a big scoring boost to the squad. They are also being expected to start James Johnson who was also aquired in the trade with the Kings.

Sacramento Kings sign free agent, Nick Young

The Sacramento Kings fresh off a three team trade have filled a roster spot with former Sixer, Nick Young.

Young was signed to the 76ers squad last season on a one-year contract however his contract was not renewed. Young was signed on a two-year contract and is expected to fill a scoring roll off the bench.

Week #1 - 31st October - 2nd November (2013)

103 - 101

[1-0] - [0-1]
Staples Center, Los Angeles - 31st October, 2013

The Sacramento Kings came in to Staples Center to face Kobe Bryant and the Lakers.. however not even Kobe's 44 points could stop a great performance by the Kings.

New Kings small forward Chandler Parsons had a fantastic debut game with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals on 10-14 shooting. DeMarcus Cousins had a solid game with 18 points to go with 11 boards however his 5 turnovers were somewhat worrying for new coach Mitch Richmond. Tyreke Evans impressed the Kings staff with a fantastic showing of 15 points and 13 assists. Trey Burke, whom was drafted with the 7th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft had a good debut with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists.

Kobe Bryant was the games top scorer with 44 points to go with 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. He hit 17 of his 40 shots and made 3 of his 9 three-pointers. The only other bright spot for a less than impressive Lakers side would be Jordan Hill who had 19 points and 4 boards in 18 minutes of action. Mike D'Antoni will surely be dissapointed with his team as they only managed to stay in the game thanks to Bryant and Hill's big performances.

Sleep Train Arena, Sacramento - 2nd November, 2013

Chris Paul and James Harden, possibly one of the fiercest backcourts in the NBA came in to Sacramento expecting an easy win against former Rockets forward Chandler Parsons however they were surely dissapointed.

Trey Burke had the performance that every Kings fan envisioned him having by scoring 20 points to go with 10 assists, 2 rebounds and a steal on 8-13 shooting. Burke not only surprised fans with his performance but graced them in the clutch by hitting 2 of his 4 three-pointers in the final 4 minutes. Tyreke Evans had a great game scoring 25 points on 11-14 shooting and Nick Young had 15 points off the bench. Chandler Parsons had another great game stringing together 19 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals on 8-12 shooting. DeMarcus Cousins had coach Richmond worried as he only had 9 points to go with 7 rebounds in 30 minutes of action.

A low scoring game for James Harden had Rockets fans in dismay. The shooting guard who emerged last season as a scoring machine only had 14 points, he did however have 10 assists which still was not enough to stop the barrage from Trey Burke and the rest of the Kings. Chris Paul had 15 points, 5 boards and 6 assists and Thomas Robinson had a better game than what most are used to seeing him have with 15 points, 8 boards and 1 assist on 7-9 shooting.

Gotta admit, Nick Young's in my list of top 10 people I never want to see in a Kings' uniform lol.

Anyways, looking forward to how you distribute the touches with Parsons in the mix now. Let's see how Burke does as well, considering how many Kings fans were clamoring for him.

US Airways Center, Phoenix - 3rd November, 2013

Goran Dragic and Marcus Morris tried as hard as they could to overcome Tyreke Evans and the Kings, but even their 2 great performances were not enough to stop the new look Kings.

Tyreke Evans was amazing today scoring 22 points, pulling down 5 boards and dishing 6 assists. Even with a less than impressive shooting night (6-15) he still managed hit 9 of his 11 free throw attempts. DeMarcus Cousins was the Kings top scorer with 24 points and he also pulled down 8 boards to go with 2 assists and a steal on 9-13 shooting (hitting all 6 of his free throw attempts). Chandler Parsons had another fantastic game with 16 points and 12 rebounds to go with 2 assists and a block. Rookie sensation Trey Burke had 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists with a steal and Patrick petterson had 13 points and 3 rebounds. Other scorers included Nick Young with 11, Cole Aldrich with 10 and Jason Thompson with 10.

Goran Dragic had an impressive game with 26 points and 9 assists, however even with a fantastic game he could not stop a Kings team that seemed to be on fire. Marcus Morris had 17 points and 8 rebounds and Marcin Gortat had 14 points and 7 rebounds. Michael Beasley had a less than impressive game with 11 points on 4-13 shooting.

The Clippers seem to having a tough time without point guard Chris Paul who moved to Houston and that didn't stop tonight thanks to an inspiring performance from Tony Snell.

Tony Snell who was drafted 38th overall in the 2nd round was not expected to make a big impact, however tonight the small forward out of New Mexico scored 17 points and had 2 boards and 1 assist off the bench in 13 minutes of action. The Kings starting five was having quite an off night and it was up to the bench to make up for it with Toney Douglas scoring 12 points and Nick Young scoring 10. Trey Burke had 11 poings, 5 assists and 4 steals and DeMarcus Cousins had 10 points and 8 rebounds. Chandler Parsons and Tyreke Evans had 9 and 8 points respectivley.

New Clipper Kevin Martin led all scorers with 19 points to go with 6 boards and 4 assists. Blake Griffin had 17 points and 9 rebounds and DeAndre Jordan had 14 points and 8 rebounds. Eric Bledsloe is having a tough time filling the shoes of Chris Paul but had a good game with 8 points, 5 boards and 9 assists.

A poor shooting night for the Kings had fans in dismay as the Indiana Pacers whom have had quite a quiet week beat the Kings by 3 points.

:applaud: :applaud: Breakout game for Tony Snell!! Tough loss in Indiana, it was a low scoring game so that tells me it was a defensive showcase. Chandler Parsons up to his usually tricks dropping 30, and getting 8 assists! :cheeky:

I've seemed to have a great run with Parsons the past six games, he's averaging just under 20 points a game to go with about 5 boards, 5 assists, a steal and a block. Very pleased with the trade.

I haven't checked just yet, but I plan to do monthly recaps showing the rest of the NBA standings and how players on new teams are going etc. Will have a look next time I jump on 2K13. Thanks for consistently reading!
