NLSC Draftees 2016

I made the unfortunate mistake of loading up the same draft class again for 2016, so I need to overhaul the entire class to make sure I don't have double ups (unfortunately, there are two Patric Young's in the league already). So I'll be using names from previous games (only the minor guys, not Perko or Maximilian), some goofy names I've made up, and hopefully some NLSCers.

If you're interested, send me a PM with the completed form. It will help me a lot.

Oh, I'd love to see Perko again. The triple-double machine was fun to follow, he averaged a triple-double for the whole season, right?

Impressive win streak you've put together, hopefully it can last and great to be a part of it and contributing.

Martti., that's right, he did do it for an entire season. If I were to incorporate him again, I think I'd make him the central character in a MyPlayer. I don't know how I'd feel seeing him suit up for a team I'm not controlling.

This win streak has made the game more playable.

Cavaliers Too Hot for the Suns

Image
Jabari was unguardable.

The Cavaliers had a major blowout win against the Suns, with a final score of 124-101.

They were led by big nights by a couple of rookies, with Jabari Parker (29 points, 7 rebounds) and Martti Must (22 points, 5 rebounds) hitting almost everything. J.J. Redick (6-15) struggled with his shot, but managed 17 points, while Dion Waiters added 14. Marcus Smart had another great game running the point, with 11 points and 13 assists.

The Suns had a solid night on the offensive end, but played absolutely no defense. Carmelo Anthony once again proved to be a handful, with 22 points. But Toby Robins caused the most problems for the Cavaliers, with 18 points and 16 rebounds. Alonzo Gee (18 points, 7 rebounds) had a great night, while Louis Williams and Shannon Brown added 16 and 13 respectively.

Cavs Keep Streak Alive Against Magic

Image
J.J. against his old team.

The Cavaliers managed to steal a 98-97 win against the Magic. After trailing for most of the night, the Cavaliers managed to get the lead back through a Tristan Thompson layup. Elijah Johnson was unable to hit the contested three to win the game.

It was a couple of former Magic players that led the way for the Cavaliers. J.J. Redick top scored with 20 points, to go with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. With the Cavaliers missing both Kyrie Irving (twisted ankle) and Marcus Smart (high ankle sprain), Jameer Nelson got his first start with the Cavaliers. He answered the call with 18 points and 5 assists. But Cleveland's best player was Dion Waiters. Waiters had 18 points off 8-12 shooting, as well as 7 rebounds. Tristan Thompson also had a great night statistically, with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Steven Adams had 12 points and 7 rebounds to be the last of Cleveland's double digit scorers.

For the Magic, they almost exclusively ran their offense through J.R. Smith. Despite shooting 1-10 from beyond the arc, the mercurial guard had a huge night for the Magic, with 42 points and 10 rebounds. The only other player in double figures for Orlando was Joel Wingate, who almost registered a double-double with 13 points and 9 assists.

Bobcats Stop Cavaliers Streak

Image
Spencer Dinwiddie, you're on the Chuck Hayes poster.

The winning streak ended at 12 for the Cavaliers, as the Bobcats won in Cleveland 109-92.

With Steven Adams sitting out, the Cavaliers had no answer for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in the paint. He got to the rim at will, and ended up with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Kemba Walker also had a strong game for the Bobcats, with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Darius Morris caused his share of problems, with 14 points and 5 steals, while Bismack Biyombo (11 points, 8 rebounds) and Spencer Dinwiddie (10) also contributed to a great team effort.

J.J. Redick managed to keep the Cavaliers in the game, scoring 20 points off 8-11 shooting. Kyrie Irving (16) and Jabari Parker (14) had relatively quiet nights, while Tristan Thompson scored 11. Chuck Hayes made the most of his chances with Adams out, scoring 10 points off the bench.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have locked in J.J. Redick for two years after this one, signing him to a contract just under 3M.

His contract also includes a team option for a third year.

Cavaliers Lose Game and Star Against the Bulls

Image
Redick came up with a big performance after his contract extension.

The Cavaliers lost their second straight, going down 105-93 to the Bulls. Unfortunately for Cleveland, the biggest loss of the night was Kyrie Irving. After contesting a shot at the rim, he came down awkwardly on his ankle. Preliminary reports say he will miss 4-6 weeks with a Severe Ankle Sprain.

While the Bulls didn't have an overly dominant offensive player, their scoring was evenly distributed amongst seven players. Orlando Johnson was the top scorer on the night, with 17 points. Ryan Anderson helped stretch the defense, with 16 points, including 2 from beyond the arc. Jimmy Butler added 14 points, while Joakim Noah (7 rebounds) and Luol Deng (10 rebounds) both scored 12 points each. Marcus Teague and Da'Vonte Hughes (10 assists) both handled the point well, scoring 10 points each.

For the Cavaliers, J.J. Redick had a huge night with 32 points. Tristan Thompson stepped up, with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks, but apart from him and Redick, it was a tough night scoring for the Cavaliers. Only Jabari Parker (12 points, 7 rebounds) and Chuck Hayes (10 points, 6 rebounds) were able to have any effect outside the two top scorers.

Cavs Drop Third Straight Against Blazers

Image
The Cavaliers are leaning on Parker pretty heavily since Kyrie's injury.

The Cavaliers slide continued with a 117-93 loss to the Blazers.

Cleveland had absolutely no answer to Andre Iguodala. He had an incredible efficient night, scoring 32 points off 15-16 shooting. Nicolas Batum also did a lot of damage off the wing, with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Jeff Green added to the Blazers efficient night, scoring 15 points off 7-10 shooting. He also grabbed a game high 9 rebounds. Backup point guard Elliot Williams added 13 off the bench, while starting point Damian Lillard had a hand in just about everything, as he registered 12 points and 16 assists.

For the Cavaliers, the only guy who could dominate the Blazers' defense was Jabari Parker. He had 30 points and 5 assists. Timofey Mozgov did a pretty good job replacing Steven Adams in the starting lineup. He had 15 points and 6 rebounds. Martti Must (14) and J.J. Redick (13) had solid performances off the bench, but ultimately it wasn't enough against the red hot Blazers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers sent Timofey Mozgov and their 2016 second round pick to the Detroit Pistons for centre Tyson Chandler.

When Steven Adams was injured, it was clear that the Cavaliers needed a defensive big to help anchor the defense, and as a former Defensive Player of the Year, there aren't many better defensive centres than Tyson Chandler.

For the Pistons, they get a solid big on both ends of the court, whose contract expires at the end of the season, as well as a second round pick.

Chandler was acquired by the Pistons in a draft day deal. However, as a Piston he averaged career lows in just about every category. In 37 games, Tyson Chandler is averaging 1.7 points and 2.8 rebounds from 13.1 minutes.

As for Timofey Mozgov, he was reportedly unhappy with his role within the team and asked for a trade. In his 37 games with the Cavaliers in this season he averaged 4.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 14 minutes per game.

Cavaliers Get Back to Winning Ways

Image
New Cavaliers addition, Tyson Chandler

Despite a late 4th quarter comeback by the Knicks, the Cavaliers managed to snap their 3 game losing streak with a 110-103 win.

Jabari Parker led the Cavaliers scoring with 20 points. J.J. Redick added 18 points off the bench. Dion Waiters was the player of the game, filling up the stat sheet with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks. Tyson Chandler's first game in a Cavaliers jersey was a productive one, as he registered 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks against one of his old teams. Along with Chandler, Tristan Thompson (10 points, 2 blocks) and Steven Adams (10 points, 3 blocks) were also solid presenses in the paint.

For the Knicks, Linsanity was back. He came up with an huge effort on a losing team, with 33 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks. Iman Shumpert (9-27 FG) was inefficient, but still managed 18 points. Marcin Gortat (16 points, 11 assists) put up a solid double-double, while Marcus Thornton added 10 points.

Cavs Pick Up More Momentum Against Raptors

Image
Jameer Nelson is filling in nicely for the injured Irving.

The Cavaliers picked up their second consecutive win, as they were triumphant against the Raptors 115-109.

Cleveland had 6 double-digit scorers, including 3 players with 20 or more. Martti Must had an incredible scoring night off the bench, scoring 21 points off 8-10 shooting (5-6 3PT). He also grabbed a team high 7 rebounds. But it was Jameer Nelson who was named the best player in the game. Nelson ran the show for the Cavaliers, as he registered 20 points and 12 assists. Jabari Parker also scored 20 points, while Tristan Thompson (14 points, 6 rebounds), J.J. Redick (10) and Steven Adams (10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks) were all productive as well.

For the Raptors, they were carried by Kyle Lowry. He was just 1 rebounds away from a triple-double, with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists. Jodie Meeks also had a big night on offense, with 21 points, but they had little help on the offensive end, as Jonas Valanciunas was the only other double figure scorer for the Raptors, with 18 points.

Wizards Destroy Cavaliers

At least Jabari showed up...

The Cavaliers were blown out by the Wizards 116-89 in Cleveland. The Cavaliers missed Steven Adams on the boards, as they were astoundingly out-rebounded 54-30.

John Wall once again had a dominant game on the offensive end, as he registered a double-double with 25 points and 11 assists. Matthew Burks almost had his own double-double, with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Bradley Beal (13 points, 5 assists) and Nerlens Noel (12) both had solid nights, while Alex Len came up with some big minutes off the bench, as he tallied 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Jabari Parker was the only consistent scorer for the Cavaliers, as he scored 24 points. The only other double figure scorers for the Cavs were Andrei Kirilenko (12) and Tyson Chandler (10).

January 2016 Summary

After a great winning streak, things have once again leveled out for the Cleveland Cavaliers. In fact, they have now lost 5 of their last 6 games. Luckily for the Cavs, they are in a slightly more forgiving conference, as they still sit in 4th place.

Injuries have struck the franchise once again. Kyrie Irving and Steven Adams have both missed extended periods in January and will probably make it back just before the All-Star Weekend. Both players have been missed, but once again, the impact of Steven Adams has been made apparent by his absense. The Cavaliers even dealt Timofey Mozgov for veteran defensive anchor Tyson Chandler.

It hasn't been all bad for the Cavaliers though. Jabari Parker continues to be the best rookie of his class, and he managed to win his first Rookie of the Month award.

Hopefully when Kyrie Irving and Steven Adams come back, the Cavaliers can have another winning run.

Dmastawwe, it's probably a better opportunity than most teams with a star point guard. Rose still gets injured a lot and you're currently holding down the starting spot for the Bulls, so I still think you'll be a steal at 30. Anyway, thanks for stopping by :)

Waiters Scores Career High in Loss

Image
An All-Star statement?

The Milwaukee Bucks managed to survive a DIon Waiters onslaught, coming away from Cleveland with a 122-118 win. Waiters scored a career high of 59, which included 6-8 shooting from beyond the arc.

However, the Bucks had a better all round effort, with 6 double-digit scorers. They were led by Monta Ellis. While he couldn't stop Waiters at the defensive end, he had a great night offensively, with 37 points and 8 assists. Recently voted All-Star starter Brandon Jennings also had an impressive night, with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Dwight Howard (8 rebounds) and Larry Sanders (7 rebounds, 2 blocks) both contributed well in the paint with 15 points each, while Caron Butler (12) and Ersan Ilyasova (11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 blocks) were both productive as well.

Aside from the dominant performance from Waiters, it was fairly slim pickings for the Cavaliers. Marcus Smart was the next best player with 11 points and 8 assists. Martti Must and Jabari Parker added 10 points each.

Waiters Scores Second Consecutive 50 in Win

Waiters' form from the previous game carried over.

Dion Waiters was on fire once again in the Cavs 128-123 win over the Clippers.

Waiters was unstoppable, as he registered 50 points and 7 assists. He hit a perfect 14-14 from the free throw line. He managed to overshadow the outstanding night on offense by Martti Must. Must did his chances of winning the 6th man award no harm with 20 points off 8-9 shooting from the bench. Jabari Parker also scored 20, while Marcus Smart made the most of his recent promotion to the starting lineup, registering a double-double (13 points, 11 assists).

Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan caused a lot of problems for the Cavaliers in the paint. Blake ended up with 32 points and 11 rebounds, while DJ had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks. Otto Porter scored 19, while Austin Rivers showed he isn't just a shooter, with 13 points and 10 assists. Damion James added 10.

Waiters continued to be the form player of the league, registering 49 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and a steal. He was perfectly complemented in the paint by Tristan Thompson. Thompson picked up 17 points and 17 rebounds. With the attention mostly on Dion Waiters, Jabari Parker had a relatively quiet night with 13 points, while Martti Must added 11 off the bench.

The Knicks were led by Marcus Thornton, who added 23 points off the bench. Despite his inability to stop Dion Waiters, Iman Shumpert had a pretty good all round night statistically, with 21 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists 3 steals and a block, while Marcin Gortat (9 rebounds) Landry Fields (11 rebounds) and Jeremy Lin (7 assists) scored 19 each.

Cavaliers Hold Off Sixers

Image
Dion was on fire once again.

The Cavaliers came away with a 107-101 win against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Cleveland got great service from the shooting guard position, as Dion Waiters (33 points, 7 rebounds) and J.J. Redick (30) were both huge for the home team. Tristan Thompson was one rebound off a double-double, with 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Carl Landry scored 12 points.

For the Sixers, recent acquisition Arron Afflalo had an efficient game, scoring 24 points off 9-15 shooting. Jrue Holiday was also productive, as he needed just one more assist for his double-double. Holiday ended up with 23 points and 9 assists. Andrew Bynum scored 20, while Trevor Ariza added 11 points. On a night of near misses, Andrew Bogut was the only player to register a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Chandler Sinks Spurs

Image
An unlikely clutch performer.

A game winning layup by Tyson Chandler capped off a 4th quarter comeback by the Cavs. They ended up winning 99-97 against the San Antonio Spurs.

Dion Waiters once again led the scoring for the Cavs, with 22 points. Jabari Parker filled up the stat sheet with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal and 1 block, but it was Tyson Chandler who had the decisive play of the game. Along with the game winning basket, Chandler had a solid night with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Along with Chandler, Tristan Thompson also provided a great presense up front, with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Tony Parker proved he is still a force in the NBA, as he led the Spurs with 23 points and 6 assists. Dejuan Blair was an absolute nightmare on the boards, as he got more rebounds than Thompson and Chandler combined. Blair registered 19 points and 17 rebounds on the night. Kawhi Leonard had a nice all round game, with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and a block, while Jordan Hamilton had a horrible night from the field, scoring 10 points off 1-10 from beyond the arc.

The Spurs held a 9 point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, but Cleveland managed to outscore San Antonio 28-17 in the 4th.

For the Bulls, rookie Da'Vonte Hughes made the most of his start, leading the Bulls with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Luol Deng (5-16) had a poor shooting night, as he scored 12 points, while Orlando Johnson (5-14) wasn't much better in scoring his 11. Joakim Noah added 10 points.

Cavs Keep Rolling Against Rockets

Image
Perhaps Jabari could have been named an All-Star reserve?

The Cavaliers won their sixth straight, as they were victorious over the Houston Rockets 105-96.

Dion Waiters was the top scorer for the Cavaliers, with 22 points. Kyrie Irving had a solid game back from his ankle injury, with 18 points and 7 assists. But the night belonged Jabari Parker. The first overall pick of the 2015 Draft was just one rebound off a triple-double, as he tallied 18 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. Carl Landry (12 points, 9 rebounds) was just one rebound off his double-double, while Tristan Thompson had another solid night with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks.

For the Rockets, James Harden filled up the stat sheet with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists, 4 steals and a block. Shabazz Muhammad also had a strong game, with 17 points and 9 rebounds. J.J. Hickson had his moments, scoring 14 off 7-12 shooting, while Patrick Beverly and Thomas Robinson both scored 11 points each. Victor Simpson added 10 points off a perfect 5-5 from the field.

Cavs Annihilate Hawks

Image
Parker with another big game.

Cleveland picked up their 3rd win against Atlanta after a major blowout victory. The final score was 120-85.

The Cavaliers caught the Hawks sleeping in the first half, jumping out to a 61-32 lead at the major break. Jabari Parker started the game on fire, scoring 23 of his 34 points in just the first quarter. Dion Waiters also came up with another big game, with 27 points. Andrei Kirilenko did most of his damage in the 4th quarter, with 15 points and 6 rebounds. It was a bit of a struggle for Kyrie Irving, but he managed to tally 12 points and 7 assists, while Martti Must added 11 points and 6 rebounds off the bench.

The Hawks were hurt by inefficient shooting. Their top scorer was John Jenkins, who put up 19 points off 7-17 shooting. Doron Lamb also had a hard time, scoring 15 from 6-17, including 1-8 from beyond the arc. David West was their most effective scorer, with 12 points off 5-8. But Josh Smith also took some questionable shots. His 11 points came from 6-15 from the field (luckily, no threes were attempted). Devin Harris had a surprisingly good stat line off the bench, with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

Martti., it was a bizarre non-selection. Even though there's a lot of talent in the forwards for 1st and 2nd year players, I thought you should have at least been picked before Alex Poythress.

Grizzlies Halt Cavs Streak in OT

Triple-double!

The Cavs were upset by the cellar dwelling Grizzlies in OT. The final score was 125-121.

Rudy Gay was an absolute monster on the night. The recently selected All-Star contributed in every statistical field, pouring in 40 points, as well as 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals and a block. Ian Miller also had a big night for the Grizzlies, scoring 29 points. Rodney Stuckey did a great job replacing the injury Mike Conley, as he got 18 points and 11 assists. Ed Davis also registered a double-double, with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Rudy Gay dominated the night, but Jabari Parker managed to have a strong night as well. He registered his first career triple-double with 31 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Despite his brilliance for most of the night, he made a costly error on the final play of the 4th quarter, as his pass failed to connect with Kyrie Irving. Irving had 26 points and 7 assists. Tristan Thompson was close to having a 20-20 night, with 17 points and 18 rebounds. Dion Waiters had a relatively poor shooting night, scoring 17 off 7-20 shooting, while Martti Must added 11 off the bench. Tyson Chandler tallied 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Is Cleveland becoming Jabari's team?

Jabari Parker had another outstanding night, as he led the Cavaliers to a 112-97 win over the Bobcats.

Parker flirted with his second consecutive triple-double, registering 37 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Kyrie Irving managed to slip under the radar to tally 21 points and 12 assists, while Dion Waiters had a better night, with 18 points (8-17 FG), 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Tristan Thompson (13 points, 7 rebounds) was solid once again, while J.J. Redick scored 10 off the bench.

Once again, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was the star for the Bobcats. The athletic wingman had 30 points and 8 rebounds on the night. Gerald Henderson was also strong for the Bobcats, scoring 20. However, Charlotte only had one other player that scored in double figures aside from MKG and Henderson, as Amar'e Stoudemire added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

More Jabari

The Cavaliers snuck out of Indiana with a 109-107 win against the Pacers.

Jabari Parker lifted the team once again. The first overall pick is going from strength-to-strength, and in this game he scored 40 points. After struggling for most of the month, J.J. Redick found some form with Martti Must (migraine headache) absent. Redick scored 19 points, which included 5-7 from beyond the arc. Kyrie Irving added 17 points and 9 assists.

Danny Granger managed to cause the Cavaliers a lot of problems on both ends. He had 27 points and 7 rebounds, and he was also disruptive on the defensive end, with 7 steals. Paul George was also heavily involved, tallying 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. John Henson (12 points, 9 rebounds) and Roy Hibbert (11 points, 7 rebounds) both had decent performances in the paint.

It was a close game all night long, with the largest quarter differential being 6 points (Pacers 1st quarter). Luckily for Cleveland fans, the Cavaliers managed to hold on.

Trade Deadline

February was relatively quiet on the trade front, but the Cavaliers made a couple of changes to their roster.

Image

The Cavaliers traded away disgruntled point guard Jameer Nelson to the Raptors for their 2017 second round pick.

Jameer Nelson played some key minutes for the Cavaliers while Kyrie Irving was injured, but he was at odds with the front office due to his inconsistent playing time. In 31 games (9 starts) he averaged 5.6 points and 4.7 assists per game.

Image

The Cavaliers also acquired Knicks sharpshooter Steve Novak for benchwarmer Chuck Hayes.

Steve Novak played just 25 games for the Knicks, averaging 2.5 points per game while shooting .395 from three point range.

Chuck Hayes played 18 games for the Cavs. He averaged 2.8 points and 1.6 rebounds.

Other Trades in February

2/8
Knicks received: Darrell Arthur, '17 2nd round pick
Nets received: Raymond Felton

2/3
Trail Blazers received: Carlos Boozer, '16 2nd round pick
Magic received: Nolan Smith

Jabari 4 MVP?

The Cavaliers came away with a huge 117-94 win against the Pacers.

Jabari Parker flirted with another triple-double, leading the Cavaliers with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Dion Waiters was 3 assists from a double-double, with 17 points and 7 assists, while Tristan Thompson added another double-double to his season tally, as he had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kyrie Irving had an awful night from the field (6-18 FG) but still managed 12 points and 14 assists. Tyson Chandler added 10 points.

Only three players from the Pacers scored in double figures. They were led by Danny Granger, who scored 22. John Henson was the most effective, with 21 points and 9 rebounds, while Roy Hibbert also cleaned the glass relatively well, also grabbing 9 rebounds to go with his 14 points.

Kyrie Breaks Finger in Win

Image
Jabari continues to star.

The 107-97 win against the Magic was soured by an injury to Kyrie Irving. Irving broke a finger on his shooting hand and is unlikely to play for 4-6 weeks.

The Cavaliers will have to continue to ride the form of Jabari Parker in Kyrie's absense. Parker led the team with 36 points. Despite the injury, Kyrie had a solid game with 15 points and 9 assists. Martti Must was close to a double-double, with 14 points and 8 rebounds, while Dion Waiters almost had one with 14 points and 8 assists. J.J. Redick did some damage against one of his old teams with 13 points off the bench.

Without their volume shooting J.R. Smith, the Magic had a pretty good distribution of scorers. Tobias Harris led the way, scoring 19 points off 8-12 shooting. Jason Thompson also caused problems down low, with 17 points off 8-10. Nolan Smith added 17, while Andrew Wiggins registered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Hawks Survive Late Run, Avoid Sweep

Jabari overcame a slow start.

The Hawks fought off a strong finish by the Cavaliers to win 112-104. The Hawks led by 25 at halftime, but the Cavs gradually erased the deficit to give the Hawks a late scare.

Doron Lamb led the way for the Hawks, with 26 points, while Josh Smith added 17. Jeff Teague was named the performer of the game, with his outstanding stat line of 16 points, 5 rebounds, 15 assists, 4 steals and a block. Devin Harris also did a good job backing up Teague, adding 10, while Glenn Robinson III had a solid night with 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Jabari Parker only had 1 point at halftime, but he managed to lead the Cavaliers' fight back, with 31 points for the game. Tristan Thompson was perfect from the field, hitting 8-8 on his way to 17 points and 9 rebounds. But Parker and Thompson were the only impactful scorers on the night, as Dion Waiters scored his 10 points off a woeful 4-16 shooting.
