New Zealand Signs Allen Iverson
Allen Iverson is back in the NBA.
The New Zealand Panthers have announced that they have signed the 16th year veteran guard out of Georgetown to a 1 year, $6.00 million dollar contract that includes a team option for the second season.
A future Hall of Famer, Iverson (36) has averaged 26.7 points, 6.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game ever since he was drafted number 1 overall in the 1996 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He won League MVP honors in 2001 and led the Sixers to the NBA Finals before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games.
Iverson has spent the past season overseas playing for the Turkish club Besiktas. He last played for the Sixers in the NBA in 2010, but took a leave of absence from the team after 25 games to attend to his sick daughter.
"I'm extremely glad that I've been offered this opportunity" he said. "Turkey was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had in my life, but there's nothing like competing in the NBA."
Iverson also made a bold statement with regards to the team that will be in their second season in existance.
"We will make the playoffs this year" he said. "We have a bunch of young, talented guys on the roster and Coach Brown's here to guide us. I have no doubt that we will find success this season."

Rubio, Timberwolves Agree To Terms
Jun 17, 2011 3:22 AM EDT
It's official: Ricky Rubio is joining the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The 20-year-old Spanish guard ended two years of speculation on Friday
when he said, "I have finally decided to start the journey" to the NBA.
"This is a day our organization and our fans have been eagerly awaiting from
the moment we drafted him, and I couldn't be more pleased to welcome
Ricky to Minnesota," said David Kahn, Timberwolves president of basketball
operations. "Ricky's skill set and feel for the game have made him one of the
best young players in Europe for six years now, and at age 20 he's still a young
player with a lot of upside. I expect Ricky to enjoy a long and successful
career here in Minnesota."
Rubio, the fifth pick in the 2009 NBA draft, has been playing for Regal
Barcelona of the Spanish ACB League for the past two seasons. It’s likely
that the deal won’t be announced until Rubio, 20, finishes his season in the
Euroleague playoffs later this month.
