Major props for putting in the work to convert this. The decision to go with Sacramento is definitely worth it in that case.

███ NBA avoids lockout - Playoffs changed to 5-7-7-7 format
NEW YORK (AP)

The NBA owners and the NBPA have agreed on a new six-year deal with basically the same terms that the last contract was based on. "It's great to see that the players and the owners cooperate that well", Commissioner David Stern said after the five hour meeting between both parties.

The NBA also announced, that the Playoff format will slightly change in the upcoming season. The 5-7-7-7 format, which means that the 1st round series are played as a best of five series, will make a comeback. It had been used before but was abolished in 2003. "We think that a best of five series will make the first round matchups more exciting and increase the chance of upsets, which is good to see", Commissioner Stern said.

███ Sonics' movement to Sacramento finished
SEATTLE-SACRAMENTO (AP)

The Kings are back in Sacramento. After one year of a Seattle Supersonics adventure, the franchise opened it's headquarters and the renovated Arco Arena in downtown Sacramento.
"We are very pleased to announced that the new Arco Arena will have place for 22.000 fans, which is over 5.000 more than before", front office executive Kevin Johnson said at the inauguration of the new stadium.

"We are here, to bring Playoff basketball back to Sac-Town", new owner Chris Webber said. The Kings finished last season (as the Sonics) with an 28-54 record and missed the NBA postseason.

███ Injury forces Yao to retire
BEJING-HOUSTON (AP)

Yao Ming retires from NBA basketball. Just two month after repeatedly breaking his right leg in an exhibition game with the Chinese national squad, the 7-6 center has filed his retirement papers.

"It just does not make sense any more. Basketball is my life, but I don't want to risk my life by getting injured over and over again", the nicknamed "Great Wall" said. Yao had only missed two games last season and looked like his old self after several injuries the year before. He averaged 18 points, 9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game during the 2010-2011 season.

"We are shocked, but we respect his decision", Houston GM Darryl Morey said in a press conference today. Without Aaron Brooks (signed with the Thunder) and Yao, the Rockets are facing a tough year to come.

███ NBA brings back striped socks
NEW YORK (AP)

The NBA has announced that the league will bring back the long socks with two stripes on the upper end. "There are still many players who wear those long socks and we will now change the style of the socks like they were in the 70ies and 80ies", an NBA press officer said.

Among players, the style change has already gotten positive feedback. "It's great. I love the new socks. They bring style and retro feelings to the league", Heat guard Eddie House said in an TV interview.
"Oh yeah, 80ies baby", Mavs guard Jason Terry twittered earlier this morning.

███ Heat, Lakers, lead Conference polls among NBA coaches
NEW YORK (AP)

The Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers are the top favourites for the NBA championship in 2012, at least that is the result of a poll amongst NBA coaches.

Eleven of 30 coaches see the Heat as the top favourite for the NBA crown, while 13 coaches tipped the LA Lakers to stand on top. The third best team in votings were the Oklahoma City Thunder with five selections.

Vote your game of the month on NBA.com

The 2011-2012 NBA season kicks off on Tuesday night when the current Champion Los Angeles Lakers will host the upcoming Oklahoma City Thunder in the Staples Center. Vote for your match of the month which will be covered on NBA.com.

11/1/2011 Oklahoma City Thunder - Los Angeles Lakers

Kobe Bryant wants to beat Michael Jordan and grab that seventh ring. Kevin Durant is the upcoming superstar in the NBA and finished 2nd in MVP votings last season. The veteran Mamba going vs the young Durantula.

11/02/2011 Miami Heat vs New York Knicks

The Heat had the best record of the league last season but were knocked off in an exciting seven game series by the Boston Celtics. The New York Knicks will now form their own "Thrice", as they added number one pick Lance Meredith to their roster, which looks as threatening as never before.

11/09/2011 San Antonio Spurs vs Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers managed to beat the Spurs in last year's Conference Semi-Finals in what was a great matchup. The Spurs' title window seems closed, but how often do you see Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Steve Nash and Ron Artest on the floor at the same time.

11/13/2011 Philadelphia 76ers vs Los Angeles Clippers

A battle between last year's rookie of the year Evan Turner and the 2nd best rookie Blake Griffin. Are the Clippers are contender?

11/17/2011 Boston Celtics vs Miami Heat

The rematch: Can the Heat make sure from the very first game that they mean business and won't let the veteran Celtics kill their title dreams? Boston is old, but more like old wine than old meat.

Andrew Bynum's height caused a lot of trouble in OKC's frontcourt.

Lakers beat Thunder in poor shooting effort on opening night

Preview - Box Score - Recap

LOS ANGELES, NOVEMBER 1st (AP) - Andrew Bynum scores 18 points and pulls down 11 boards as the Lakers beat OKC in what turned out to be a brickfest.

No, it wasn't the game the fans of the Lakers had anticipated when they entered the Staples Center earlier tonight. Televised nation-wide, the match between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder should not only open the new NBA season, it should do so in a fancy - or at least - exciting way. Things came different as both teams just could not hit the basket.

The Thunder, who came up short in the second round of the Playoffs last year against a veteran Dallas Mavericks team, were league-wide considered as the number one challenger in the West for the Lakers. They had added Thaddeus Young and Aaron Brooks to a already deep, young and gifted roster. But tonight in L.A. this young roster fell short - by a lot.

Especially go-to-guy Kevin Durant, who is expected to lead his team to new heights this season underachieved or let's say it better: he just disappeared.

"Kevin was so nervous before the game", Thunder Coach Scott Brooks said about his star-player who only shot 4-20 from the field after the game. "We were doing our pre-game ritual and just after the huddle he (Durant) disappeared in the shower. You could clearly hear that he was having some problems with his stomach", Brooks added.

Durant didn't want to talk much about the game. "We lost by 17 points and weren't able to score more than 70 points. What else should I say?"

Well, maybe that he was too nervous to bring his A-game, which was around 28 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists per game last season. But it wasn't all Durants fault.

The Thunder had big trouble with the height of the Lakers, especially with Andrew Bynum. The 6-11 pivot scored 18 points on 8-14 shooting and added 11 rebounds. Kobe Bryant did not shoot the ball particularly well (7-20 from the field) and added 17 points. But the Lakers just showed a better collective effort.

The Lakers outscored the Thunder 32-11 in the second and didn't give away their lead in the rest of the game. Steve Nash scored only 5 points in his first game as a Lakers but added 8 assists.

For Oklahoma City, who shot 37% from the field, Russell Westbrook had a team-high 21 points and Thaddeus Young added 11.

OKC has definitely still a long way to go and maybe - just maybe - will have to learn the hard way how they still have no answers for LAs height advantage down low.

NOTES: The Thunder were just 2-12 from downtown ... James Harden had foul-trouble all game long and only played 24 minutes.. both teams shot a combined 68-168 from the field ... this was the lowest season opener score since the 60ies ... the Thunder only had two players above .500 in the game ...

I still have to do some slider tweaking. Shooting is too difficult (i have real player pct) and not enough free throws. Game is fun though :)

Yeah, I will still tweak the sliders a bit. It was a bit too tough to get open shots and there were way too few FTs. I hope I find a solution soon so that this one can roll halfway realistically.

Demarcus Cousins is looking to start off in his sophomore season after a sub-par rookie campaign

NBA basketball back in Sacramento: What we can expect from week one
for Kings.com
Posted on November 2nd 2010 1:33PM

Finally. NBA basketball is back in Sacramento as the Kings will start off their season at home against the Houston Rockets in the brand new Arco Arena tonight. Let's have a look at the Kings week one of the NBA season.

Image

The Kings will celebrate their comeback to Sacramento tonight as they will host the Houston Rockets. Houston, who were knocked out by the Spurs in the first round of the Playoffs last year, are looking to find the right mixture as they have lost two of their three best players in offseason: Aaron Brooks (19.7 ppg last year) went to Oklahoma City to win a title there as a sixth man while Yao Ming (18.7 ppg last year) was forced into retirement this offseason after re-injuring his right ankle.

For the Kings, it will be important to use their size advantage on the boards as the Rockets will start Luis Scola and Patrick Patterson on the five and four position, who are both undersized players. David West and Demarcus Cousins will start for the Kings and the latter is hoping to have a breakout year this season.

Houston is hoping the same for Kyle Lowry, one of the best sixth men and most improved players last year, who will now handle the point for the Rockets. Kevin Martin, eight best scorer in the league last year hopes to cause some problems for his former teams defense.

Image

Just two days later, on Friday the fourth of November, the Kings will visit the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena for the first of four meetings this year. The Warriors team hasn't changed much from last year as they only added one new key player in the former Laker Shannon Brown, who will now start on the wing for them. Golden State is a very explosive team on offense as they had three guys averaging over 20 points per game last year in Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis and power forward David Lee.

Image

The last matchup of the week will be between the Hornets and the Kings live from Sacramento on Saturday night. Both teams have swapped players during the offseason as Sacramento received power forward David West (17.8 ppg last season) and New Orleans got Omri Casspi (17.5 ppg last season).
The Kings will have to watch out for Chris Paul who will be looking to school rookie point guard Luis Chase and give the Hornets a win amonst Playoff contenders.

NBA basketball is finally back to Sac-To!
Kingsfan88 for Kingscorner.com

Hey, Kings fans! We are back! The Sacramento Kings are back to NBA basketball and stand at 1-2 after one week, where the squad around Tyreke Evans and David West was facing the Rockets, Warriors and Hornets.

Opening loss doesn't affect fans' cheers

It was all dark in the renovated Kings arena, formerly known as Arco Arena but after a new sponsorship deal now called Power Balance Pavillion. It was just a Kings logo light spot, that was glaring on the Kings' homecrowd before it suddenly stopped in front of the locker room exit: Fans were cheering as loud as it gets as Tyreke Evans and the rest of the Kings crew where entering the Arena for the first time since two years.

The game itself was far away from great for the Kings though. Despite some big hopes after trading for veteran forward David West and the fact that Houston had a size disadvantage with no real center after Yao's retirement, the Kings struggled on offense from the very first minute.
"I don't know, man. Maybe we were a bit nervous and could not take the fans' cheering as a boost but rather thought of it as pressure", newly acquired David West said after the game.

But another big reason for the offensive struggles could also be the fact, that the Kings still have to find their rhythm and flow when it comes to choosing the right options. Sacramento had five players taking more than 10 shots, but only one (Tyreke Evans) taking more than 12.

"We still don't know who to give the ball in which situation because we have a lot of options on offense now compared to last season", Evans, who shot 9-18 from the field en route to 22 points, said after the game.

The Rockets did not have such problems. They led the game after one quarter - 30-16. Luis Scola was as efficient as a heat pump as he shot 10-15 from the field and scored 23 points. Kevin Martin and Kyle Lowry added 21 and 14 respectively.

The Kings only outscored the Rockets in the fourth, when they were down by 20 already. Keyon Dooling, who was traded for the 21st pick in last year's draft, showed some resiliance as he scored 22 points and had 3 steals. Rookie point guard and third pick of the draft Luis Chase added 10 points and 8 assists but only shot 3-11 from the field, same as David West.

The Rockets also took their free throw shooting as an advantage as they shot 20-23 from the stripe compared to the Kings' 18-31. Houston took the first road win of the season - 108-88.

Where's the offense?

With just one day of pause, the Kings visited Oracle Arena to play against the Golden State Warriors, a team that will definitely battle with the Kings for that 8th Playoff spot this season.

But as important as this match against a divisional rival was, as bad played the Kings. Already down by 13 at the half, Sacramento never found their way back into the game as the Warriors saw Monta Ellis stuffing the stat sheet with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals as well as two blocks.

Golden State had five guys in double figures, one amongst them being Tracy McGrady, who looked revitalized in his first game with the Warriors.

For the Kings, Demarcus Cousins and David West scored 18 points each as they took advantage of the Warriors' thin front court, missing sophomore forward Ekpe Udoh with an foot injury.

Go-to-guy Tyreke Evans had a poor outing and only shot 5-19 for 12 points as the Kings again shot under .42% from the field.

"I think we did a good job on defense if you don't count garbage time, but we still have a lot of work to do offensively", Coach Chris Hova said after the second loss of the season (84-104).

First win in sold-out arena

Just like in the first game of the season, there were no empty seats left in the Kings' Arena as the Hornets and their playmaking superstar Chris Paul were visiting Sac-Town.

The Hornets, who had just beaten the Chicago Bulls at home thanks to Paul's 20 points and 9 dimes, had to play without rookie Joel Bridges. The 22-year old rookie forward out of Duke had injured his knee against Chicago after posting a solid 9 points/11 rebounds debut.

New Orleans couldn't hit anything in the first as the Kings took a quick 14-19 lead. David West scored 16 points in a matchup against former Kings' forward Omri Casspi, who was part of the West-trade. Casspi scored 15 points and grabbed 8 boards.

The most important part of the Kings game was the great ball sharing, which one couldn't find in their first two games. The Kings had 22 assists compared to 11 of the Hornets. Chris Paul only had two dimes and added 22 points, ten of them coming from the line.

The Kings pulled away in the third when Donte Greene, who had not played well the games before, scored nine points on four consecutive possessions to give his team a ten-point lead.

"That's what he has to deliver. He knows were watching him and his development pretty accurately. He's playing for a new contract and has to deliver for us", Coach Hova said afterwards. The Coach was also very pleased with Demarcus Cousins. "You look at the first three games and you see how much more effective he is now. He has learned a lot, hustling down there and limiting his turnovers", the coach said.

Cousins had six offensive boards against the Hornets, putting up a double-double with 10 points and 14 boards. He is averaging 13.7 points and 10.0 boards over the first three games, shooting .529% from the field.

The Kings won their first game, 81-85.
