Notes: I have moved quite a few players in order to get in the positive in the salary cap. I'm not looking to make a charge at the 2010 free agency, but I find it useful to have cap room in case of player injuries. I've kept the core players to Denver's success and added some I believed would be an energy boost off the bench. I'm currently 8 games into the season with a record of 5-3. I will update you after the 10th game on how each player is going.

Good luck. (Y) I'll be waiting until we get some further DNA updates and to see if the official fix can do anything about the simulated stats before I start my Dynasty. There's a possibility that Dynamic Season will have to be be my mode of choice this year.

Unfortunately there's a few problems with my wireless on the ps3, adding to the fact that I'm impatient, I decided to start my dynasty now. The dynamic season looks amazing too, I might have to check that out down the track.

So far I'm 5-5... I've lost my last two games, blown out by both Milwaukee and the Lakers. Hopefully I can pick it up over the next calendar month. There have been glimpses of brilliance, but the Nuggets have been hot and cold.

Here's the players and how I've rated them in the first 10 games:

Stand out
--------------

JR Smith: He seems to be my first choice scorer at the moment, averaging almost 19 points a game, which is 4th in the league. After a tumultuous off-season, it's good to see him back to what he does best... and he has been doing it excellent. He also averages 4 dimes a game on top of his scoring efforts.

Image

Stars
------
Chauncy Billups: Despite foul trouble in 2 of the last 3 games, he has been a solid contributor, being second on the team in scoring and first in assists, as well leading the league in steals with 4.1 a game. He will be a big part of Denver's game plan to try and break this indifferent start to the season.

Chris Anderson: Adds much needed defensive toughness to the Denver lineup. Now he's starting, he's expected to be a more potent scorer, averaging almost a double-double this year in Points and Rebounds

Solid Contributors
-----
Nene: Nene has been solid. Always close to getting a double-double each night, he in conbination with the Birdman have been a great presense on the boards, although he's struggled against the bigger players (Hasheem Thabeet and Andrew Bogut come to mind).

Mailk Allen: Allen has injected enthusiasm off the bench. After Kenyon Martin's departure, Denver have looked to him to have a lot of the minutes to cover for the starting big men and he has done it nicely.

Johan Petro: He's been hitting the boards nicely and has provided some high energy play off the bench. His game time has been limited, but his play has been solid for what he's got.

Needs to do more?
----------------------
Carmelo Anthony: The franchise player has been a bit off his game lately, and has been somewhat demoted to 3rd choice scorer on the team. His form is vital to Denver's charge this year.

Louis Williams: He's struggled with the point guard duties, and he looks undersized as a 2. Don't be surprised if he's dealt before the trade deadline.

Rookies
---------
Ty Lawson: With the limited opportunities he's had, he has done well and has proven that he could very well be the future of this franchise. Got the first double-double of his career Vs Chicago. He looks like he's going to be a reliable backup for Chauncy this year.

Terrence Williams: He hasn't seen very much time at all since his arrival in Denver, and backing up Carmelo Anthony, he might not see a whole lot in the future either. Hopefully Denver can pick it up and he can get some valuable garbage time.

Bench Warmers
------------------
Arron Affalo: Has been a non-entity so far. Nothing to write home about... his shooting has been sub-par and his defense has been non-existent.

Robert Horry: Somewhat of a vanity free agency signing by yours truly. Probably won't get a whole heap of time this season, but if there's a clutch situation, I'll be mighty tempted to bring him on. He's made some nice baskets, but he only gets out there if there is some garbage time.
-----------------

Sorry about not having exact numbers and results yet. I'll do my best to get those in the future.

The new calendar year of my season has begun. So here's an update:

The Denver Nuggets are sitting 5th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 19-13. The last 5 games they have gone 2-3. As mentioned before, JR Smith has been a stand out performer. He is in the top 5 in the league in scoring (18.3ppg) and steals (1.4spg). But for the month of December, Nene has been the story, winning the West player of the Month award averaging 15.3 points a game and 9.6 rebounds. His inside presense has been massive over the last month and hopefully he can continue through the season.

A few statistical anomalies in there, but JR has been my go to guy so far this season. He's become a far more consistent player under my management and his shot selection is better too. Maybe jail did indeed change him like he reported?

January update:

January proved to be an inconsistent month for Denver, as they went 7-8 and are now currently sitting 6th in the Western Conference. A combination of factors has led to this, including Melo's erratic shooting behind the arc and Billups regularly getting into foul trouble. While Ty Lawson has proved adequate off the bench, Chauncy is really the team leader, and not having him on the floor can have an adverse effect on the team. But when he has been on the floor, he has been a defensive nightmare and living up to his nickname of "Mr Big Shot".

JR Smith and Nene have continued their emergence in the NBA this season. JR has jumped up to third in the league in points per game averaging 19.4, while Nene is still leading the league in boards with 8.8. Both players look in terrific shape for the upcoming all-star game. JR Smith in my opinion is also the main contender for the Most Improved Player award, but time will tell how the computer will judge that one.

As for the other players, Chris Anderson has proven to be a great partner on the defensive end for Nene. He leads the team in block shots and is only just outside the top 5 for Rebounds Per Game. Malik Allen has proven once again to be a useful player on the bench and might be an outsider for the 6th man award. On the defensive end, Johan Petro has stepped up in the minutes he has had and I believe he will be the first player I resign to the Nuggets next year. Louis Williams has been an inconsistent shooter all year long and I'm still not convinced he's a 2. He has every now and then rotated to the point, and seems to play soundly there without being spectular. Terrence Williams has shown some athleticism in his limited minutes, but tends to turn the over a bit too often. Robert Horry and Arron Affalo have basically fallen out of rotation.

EXPECTATION EXCEEDED: Denver's Starting 5 in All-Star Lineup

For the upcoming All-star game, Denver's entire starting lineup has been chosen for the West team. Nene will mark his first All-star appearance as a starter, as well as JR Smith. Carmelo Anthony was a shock selection starting at small forward, while Chauncy Billups and Chris Andersen were both named on the West bench. For a team ranked 6th, some might question the Nuggets prominence in the game, but hey, it'd make for fun game to spectate. Along with the 3 Denver starters, Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash make up the Wests starting 5. Also of note, there are two debutants on the bench (Deron Williams, Kevin Durant)

For the Easts, the starting lineup is all too familiar looking, selecting only two debutants for the bench (Andrew Bogut and Derrick Rose).

EAST:
C: Dwight Howard
PF: Kevin Garnett
SF: Lebron James
SG: Dwyane Wade
PG: Mo Williams

Chris Paul
----------------------------------

ROOKIE BENCH GETS THE POINT: Lawson selected

In an unusual move, the entire bench for the rookie side consists of point guards, one of which including Denver's Ty Lawson. 4 players of the top 10 draftees were selected (Blake Griffin, Hasheem Thabeet, Jonny Flynn, Brandon Jennings), whilst monthly reward recipients Stephen Curry and Jrue Holiday have been reward with selection.

For the Sophomore side, Derrick Rose will be playing in both games this all-star weekend, starting at point guard. OJ Mayo, Brook Lopez and Russell Westbrook will also be returning to the Rookie challenge as Sophomores this year as well.

ALL-STAR WEEKEND

The time is here again for the best of NBA to entertain and this year sees an incredibly strong representation from my Denver Nuggets, but how did they go in the big game?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SOPHOMORES GET REDEMPTION

After last year getting beaten as rookies, the Sophomores redeemed themselves with a 13 point win over the Rookies. However, the game started with 6 straight points to top draft pick Blake Griffin, as he was on his way to be the game's top scorer. But any momentum the Rookies had was quickly arrested by an outstanding MVP performance by Brook Lopez with great support from Derrick Rose and OJ Mayo. Brook Lopez didn't just record a double-double, but he was 2 rebounds away from having a 20-20 game. Late in the 4th quarter, Brandon Jennings of the Rookie team hit 2 clutch 3 pointers to bring them back within 10 after trailing by as many as 20. But the Rookies were simply out-muscled on the boards all night and this proved to be what won the match.

As well as Brook Lopez, Blake Griffin recorded a double-double, while Kevin Love (13 points, 9 rebounds) and Hasheem Thabeet (10 points, 8 rebounds) weren't too far off.

TY LAWSON
Ty Lawson essentially got a DNP in this game, with the only minute he got was in the fourth quarter when the game was already won. In a bench stacked with Point Guards, I wasn't too surprised by this.

THE STATS
Sophomore 89 [B Lopez 22, Rose 21, Mayo 18]
Rookies 76 [B Griffin 24, Eyenga 15, J Johnson 11]

Rebounds

Rookies: B Griffin 11
Sophomore: B Lopez 18

Assists

Rookies: Eyenga 5
Sophomore: Rose 6

Rookie game MVP: Brook Lopez

WEST OVERRUN EAST

Image

The All-Star game started off with just about every shot going in. However it proved to be Dwyane Wade's perimeter shooting that was the difference in the first quarter as the East jumped out to an early lead. Dwight Howard looked to be too much for Nene to handle during the first half as he dominated the offensive glass and notched up a double-double overall in the game.

Despite trailing by as many as 16 during the 3rd quarter, the Wests came out in the 4th led by Kobe Bryant. His erratic start to the game was quickly forgotten as he hit some vital shots down the stretch and the West hit the front for the first time with less than 2 minutes to go. Defending brilliantly in the dying minutes, the Western All-stars overcame a valiant Eastern All-star side.

Three players reached double-doubles in the night, with Dwight Howard (15pts, 13rebs), Dirk Nowitzki (16pts, 11rebs) and Chris Paul (11pts, 10ast). For Denver, Nene had a solid debut despite early dominance by Dwight Howard. Carmelo Anthony got a few nice touches on his way to 12 points, while both JR Smith and Chris Andersen got their only two points of the night from the free throw line after intentional fouls. Chauncy was only the court only for the last play.

THE STATS

West 85 [Bryant 22, Nowitzki 16, Nene 12, Anthony 12]
East 76 [James 17, Howard 15, Garnett 14, Wade 13]

Rebounds

East: Howard 13
West: Nowitzki 11

Assists

East: Mo Williams 7
West: Paul 10

Trade Deadline

Well, it's come to that time, only two trades have been made before the deadline (apart from my initial trades in the season), and they are as follows:

The Orlando Magic acquired Rasheed Wallace from the Boston Celtics for Marcin Gortat

Indiana have traded Mike Dunleavy and Tyler Hansborough to the Kings for Spencer Hawes and Kenny Thomas
--------------------------------

As well as this, I thought I'd list the free agency signings of the year so far, so you know who signed who:

Atlanta: Maceo Baston, Bobby Jackson, Ramon Sessions
Boston: Bruce Bowen, Dwayne Jones

February Summary

JR Smith stepped up once again and moved up one place in the scoring table, now sitting second averaging 19.4ppg, behind only Dwyane Wade. However, the All-Star break proved to be a distraction for the Nuggets, losing focus and dropping the last 3 games of the month. They remain in 6th place (31-28), but with Golden State (30-28) and New Orleans (30-30) right on their heels, they need to pick it up in March. One positive that has come with this month has been the consistency of Carmelo Anthony. Not taking as many deep shots as he did previously in the season, his production is almost back to his brilliant best. Nene and the Birdman have been a little quiet on the offensive end, but are both managing to clean the glass, particularly on the defensive end, where Nene leads the league.

Monthly Awards

EAST PLAYER: Dwyane Wade (26.5ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.8 steals/blocks combined)
WEST PLAYER: Steve Nash (18.3ppg, 6.2apg)

OTHER NOTES FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE
-At the moment, the MVP race looks to have two competitors in Steve Nash and Dwyane Wade. Both players have gotten the monthly award for a second time in a row.
-Since trading away Spencer Hawes and Kenny Thomas for Mike Dunleavy and Tyler Hansborough, the Sacramento Kings have had a 7 game losing streak. Was the trade to move Ben Wallace into the Centres? Is team chemistry currently an issue?
-The Lakers are making a charge, moving up to 9th in the West. Will they have the legs to make it to the playoffs to defend their title? They would be a scary first round prospect for any team.

MARCH UPDATE

MELO IS BACK! Yes, it took him a while to get warmed up this season, but he has come back and he is sending a message to all the contenders in the league. Averaging almost 24 points a game this month, he went back to back 40 plus games against Memphis (45) and a career high 51 against the West's 3rd seed Houston. And with Melo's rise to prominence, Denver enjoyed a winning month, going 11-5 in March. Working in tandem with JR Smith on the wing, there is no reason why Denver couldn't go all the way this year. Will Melo come up huge in the playoffs as he did last year?

MARCH MONTHLY AWARDS

EAST PLAYER: [IND] Danny Granger (20ppg, 3.4rpg)
WEST PLAYER: [DEN] Carmelo Anthony (23.9ppg, 4,1rpg, 2.6apg, 1bpg)
EAST ROOKIE: [PHI] Jrue Holiday (5.8ppg, 4.6apg)
WEST ROOKIE: [GSW] Stephen Curry (9.6ppg, 4.9apg)

AROUND THE LEAGUE NOTES
----------------
-The Lakers are now sitting in 8th spot in the West. This should set off alarm bells for any of the top 4 teams.
-In my opinion, Orlando are the toughest team in the league now with the acquisition of Rasheed Wallace. With their current starting lineup (Howard, Wallace, Lewis, Carter, Nelson), it's incredibly hard to find a weakness in Orlando's game.
-The MVP race is now between Lebron James and Dwyane Wade. Whether the computer will choose Lebron's all-round game or Dwyane's superior (although not by much) points per game average is still to be seen.
-For me, the clear cut winner of ROY this year should be Stephen Curry, but players likely to give him a run for his money are Jrue Holiday, Jonny Flynn and Brandon Jennings.

Well, the season is finally over and we made it! Finishing 5th in the Western Conference. While I'm happy with this result, I dropped the last 4 games, which is concerning so close to the playoffs. Denver finished 45-37 and will compete against the 4th ranked Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs. As far as individual achievements are concerned, Malik Allen was recognised for his high energy play off the bench, being named 6th man of the year. Coming off contract next year, he could potentially cash in on this. Notably players from Denver who made the teams this year are Nene (All NBA First Team), Carmelo Anthony (All NBA Second Team), JR Smith (All NBA Second Team) Chauncy Billups (All Defensive First Team) and Ty Lawson (All Rookie Second Team). Overall it's been a solid year, and hopefully it'll extend deep in the playoffs.

-----------------------------------
End of Season Awards
----------------------------------

INDIVIDUAL

Most Valuable Player: Lebron James [CLE]

Well, the King reigns supreme for the second year running. He had tough competition by Dwyane Wade and Steve Nash, but in the end, his all round play got him to the award he deserves.

Most Improved Player: Channing Frye [PHO]

Playing 82 games itself was a big achievement for Channing Frye, but not only that, he started in all of them two. From what I saw, he deserves this once, and perhaps he's living up to the potential many thought he had.

Defensive Player of the Year: Josh Smith [ATL]

Amongst the league leaders in blocks and steals, Josh Smith proved to once again be an intimidating presense on the defensive end, this year being rewarded for his efforts.

Rookie of the Year: Stephon Curry [GSW]

10 points per game from 20 minutes is pretty impressive and he was the clear cut favourite for this award pretty much all year.

6th Man: Malik Allen [DEN]

He hasn't been mentioned a whole lot, maybe because he isn't as flashy as say JR Smith and Carmelo Anthony. What he provided off the bench though was defensive toughness and some valuable baskets when Denver needed an injection of energy.

Coach of the year: Doc Rivers [BOS]

Boston have truly set the standard in the league this year and behind every great team is a great coach.

The Playoffs

Playoff tree

Image
Image

Denver Vs Houston

Key matchups

Yao Ming Vs Nene:

Both players earned spots in the All-NBA teams this season, with Nene just pipping Yao for first team honors. Both players have a lot to prove.

Carmelo Anthony Vs Trevor Ariza:

Trevor Ariza came up huge in the NBA Finals last year, but with a different team, can he emulate the same heroics? As for Melo, this series is really a chance for him to prove that he deserves to be mentioned with the likes of fellow draft classmates Dwyane Wade and Lebron James.

The X-Factor

Denver's big shot makers:

Despite sitting as a bench warmer for the regular season, Robert Horry in the past has proven to be one of the biggest clutch players of all time in playoffs. Will the greatest hits tour continue? As well as this, Chauncy Billups is known for the big occassions and is known for leading his teams deep into the playoffs.

Tracy McGrady

He hasn't been on the court much the last few years, but once considered as one of the game's elite, T-Mac should not be taken lightly by the Denver defense.

The Other Games of Interest

Two series' I will keep a particular eye on will be Cleveland vs Charlotte and Phoenix vs Golden State.

The Bobcats have never made the playoffs, and this year they go in as the 5th seed. However Cleveland have the experience and the firepower to suggest they can easily account for them, but we'll see.

And of course, coming in at the 7th seed in the West is Golden State and if anyone can knock off a competition favourite, it's them.

How come you stopped posting standings in the final month? Either way, I love your pics. Andrew was right about Live's sim engine, with Mo Williams and JR on the all-NBA second team (and your 45 win team having 4 people spanning the all-NBA teams), as with the champs being the 8th seed. Good luck against Houston.

I have noticed after getting an update that some players are taking speculators from almost half court, and Antoine Walker isn't even in the game. However, I was enthusiastic to start my dynasty as soon as possible because I had waited so long. Apart from those statistical anomalies, the gameplay is pretty damn good I think. As for the standings, I guess was too eager to get into playoff mode that I just went right past it. It's something I'll remember for my next year though.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words. Will have some results from my playoffs series soon :)

JR Smith finished the season 4th in scoring with almost 19 points a game (keep in mind I play 7 minute quarter). As for the Birdman, he was pulling down about 7 boards a game and 1.5 blocks... all of which saw him in the top 10. He was getting about 8 points a game, which was an improvement for him too.

As for the JR starting over Kobe thing... I did remember reading that Kobe was injured at one stage of the season, so that could have been a factor... and perhaps his scoring was down a bit because the computer was distributing points to Ron Artest as well. I guess the whole thing was a bit of an aberration, but JR Smith's playing style really suits the way I tend to use my shooting guards.

More pictures and replays to come soon with recaps of my first three playoff games :)

Lol already in playoffs? Slow it down man!
Here are the recaps for the first three games:

Game 1: Denver take first game of the series

Image

In the first quarter, Denver ran out to an 8-1 lead. Despite Chauncy Billups getting into early foul trouble, Denver were able to maintain it through the first half with Ty Lawson filling in for him (including this sweet play).

Yao Ming's dominant inside game (28 points, 14 rebounds) assured that Houston stayed in it. However, he didn't have enough help on the night, as JR Smith sealed his side's fate by knocking down 2 big three pointers to help get his side the first win of the series.

Despite Yao's dominance, Nene picked up the Sprite Performer of the Game, with 10 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME 1: HOUSTON @ DENVER

DEN 84 [Anthony 27, Smith 21, Billups 13]
HOU 72 [Yao 26, Brooks 10, Ariza 10]

Sprite Performer of the Game: Nene 10 pts 14 rebs 2 blks

Rebounds

Denver: Nene 14
Houston: Yao 14

Assists

Denver: Billups 7
Houston: Lowry 7
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Game 2: Houston clinch thriller in Denver

Image

After a gruelling double overtime, the Houston Rockets leveled the series. Denver were losing by 10 at the start of the fourth quarter, but a comeback was amounted, and with little time left, Houston were up by three, and guess who stepped up... Mr Big Shot himself hits this to send it into an overtime period. It was hotly contested for through the first overtime and Carmelo Anthony was unable to hit the game winning shot, so another overtime was needed. Some nice plays by both teams, including a dunk by Denver's reserve Louis Williams. Tracy McGrady hit two clutch free throws to give Houston a three point lead. With the last play of the game, Billups had another 3 point shot to send it to a third overtime, in which he missed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME 2: HOUSTON @ DENVER
[2OT]
HOU 99 [McGrady 30, Brooks 23, Yao 17]
DEN 96 [Billups 25, Anthony 21, Smith 16]

Sprite Performer of the Game: Yao Ming 17 pts 19 rebs 4 asts

Rebounds

Denver: Andersen 13
Houston: Yao 19

Assists

Denver: Nene 4
Houston: Lowry, Brooks, Yao 3
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Game 3: Denver go to 2-1 lead

Image

After the heartbreaking game 2 loss in double overtime, Denver were eager to arrest back the momentum in the series. With Melo stone cold in the first quarter, Houston took a 5 point lead. However the game was quickly taken over by JR Smith, who scored a game high 22 points. Despite Billups only getting 5 points, he set up the players around him beautifully with 9 assists.

Even though Yao got another double-double (12 points, 13 rebounds), his influence on the game was somewhat halted because of double teams being sent his way. Nene ended up having the better night, getting the Sprite performer of the night, with a double-double as well (16 points, 11 rebounds). But the double-doubles didn't stop there, the Birdman got one of his own, with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME 3: DENVER @ HOUSTON

DEN 71 [Smith 22, Nene 16, Anthony 13]
HOU 62 [Ariza 17, McGrady 16, Yao 12]

Sprite Performer of the Game: Nene 16 pts 11 rebs

Rebounds

Denver: Andersen 13
Houston: Yao 13

Assists

Denver: Billups 9
Houston: Brooks, McGrady 2
------------------------------------------------------

So with a 2-1 lead, can Denver take the series? Or will Houston come back? Either way, one of these teams will have to go back to being labelled a first round casualty. A lot is at stake in this one. Stay tuned

Game 4: Houston tie series with impressive win

Image

Houston picked up a valuable win at home to tie the series at 2-2 by beating Denver 79-68. Tracy McGrady (19) and Aaron Brooks (15) were hitting absolutely everything, and Yao supported them nicely by almost getting another double-double (14 points, 9 rebounds). Despite a 28 point effort from Carmelo Anthony, the Nuggets were never in this one, as he lacked support. Billups was the only other player to reach double figures and key scorer JR Smith was restricted to just 3 points.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME 4: DENVER @ HOUSTON

HOU: 79 [McGrady 19, Brooks 15, Yao 14]
DEN: 68 [Anthony 28, Billups 18, Nene 8]

Sprite Performer of the Game: Tracy McGrady 19 pts 9 asts 7 rebs

Rebounds

Denver: Andersen 8
Houston: Yao 9

Assists

Denver: Nene, Allen 4
Houston: McGrady 9
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game 5: Denver toppled at home

Image

After another dominant display from Rockets Centre Yao Ming, Denver will now look to win away in Houston to keep their series alive, losing by 3 points. Achieving yet another double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, Denver will have to keep Yao in check the next game if they want any chance of advancing this year.

Down by 10 at the beginning of the fourth, Denver needed a revival and it came at the hands of Chauncy Billups, as they got to within 1 at the end of the game. He ended up with 19. However, it proved to be the Houston point guard, Aaron Brooks who was lights out beyond the arc, having a game high 21 point game. Along with support from Tracy McGrady, who hit two free throws at the end to extend the game. With the last shot to send it into overtime, Billups missed.

Game 6: Denver keeps series alive

Denver in need of a win this game, ran over the top of Houston in the final quarter to win 96-85. Chauncy Billups was on fire in the first half, coming up with 24 points to keep Denver's hopes alive in the series, as they were losing by 12 at the half.

Reducing that deficit down to 4 at the end of the 3rd quarter, Denver needed a spark to carry them home and they found one... in the Birdman! He came up huge, getting 12 of his 16 points in that final quarter. He also picked up 8 of his 15 rebounds in the same quarter. It could be said it's the best quarter of the Birdman's career... or atleast the most important one, with Denver's series on the line.

This series has gone right down to the wire, needing a 7th and deciding game. Which team will go off to the next round? Will Denver go to the next level? Or stumble at the first obstacle?

Haha, when I took it I thought it looked like Malik Allen was getting kicked in the balls. Thought it was a good reflection of what it's like when Yao's dominating the game.

And looking at the playoffs tree in the game, I actually came 4th during the season. I shall amend that sometime soon.

Edit: On the tree I'm 4th, but in the season standings I'm 5th in the West. Did I get a better seed because I won my division?

Yeah, you do. Winning your division gives you a guaranteed top 4 seed. You shouldn't have homecourt advantage though. :?

The all important game 7 has been played and here's how this tense series has ended:

Denver scrape through

Image

After a hard fought series, Denver have made it to the next round by a solitary point, winning 72-71. Signs looked ominous for Denver in the first quarter, with JR Smith in foul trouble early, Louis Williams scored 9 of Denver's 14 first quarter points, which saw them down by 10. In the second, Denver pulled that lead back thanks to some hot shooting from Carmelo Anthony and tough defense from Nene and the Birdman (as shown in this replay). Chris Andersen ended up with 7 blocks.

In the 4th, Denver went on a run that saw them up by 15 points, but if anyone thought the game was over there, they would have completely forgotten about the rest of the series. By the final 10 seconds, Houston were within 1 of Denver. Looking to stop the clock, Aaron Brooks intentionally fouled Chauncy Billups and he went to the stripe to hit his 2 free throws. Tracy McGrady hit the last shot of the game, but he strayed inside the perimeter, meaning it was only a 2 pointer.

Now with the conclusion of this series, Denver will go on to meet San Antonio, who beat the Lakers 4-1.

Yeah, the Bobcats at 5 was the biggest surprise for me though. I would have loved to have seen them go through. Anyway, here's hoping Denver becomes enemy number one in Texas with a win against the Spurs :)

It would be quite funny if you would beat all 3 Texas teams to reach the Finals, it could actually happen. Good luck against the Spurs, especially as I kind of hate them. Chris Andersen's arm looks quite bizarre on the Game 6th pick.

It would be fantastic if I could do that. I'd prefer to play the mavs over the suns, coz I can't stop Steve Nash. The Spurs are actually my second favourite team, but for now, they are my enemies!
------------------------------------------------------

Denver Vs San Antonio
---------------------------
OVERVIEW: To pick a player from the Spurs in which I need to focus my defensive attention onto is an impossible task. You have the greatest power forward of all time in Tim Duncan, who you'd think would be the primary focus. However, they also have a finals MVP in Tony Parker, a man whose abilities (when fit) are downright freakish (Ginobili) and not to forget their two off season acquisitions in Antonio McDyess and Richard Jefferson. So to focus on one player could easily lead to an early exit for Denver. Now that's out of the way, here are the results from the first 4 games:
---------------------------

Game 1: San Antonio belt Denver in first game

Image

San Antonio started the game off with a bang, going on a 14-4 run. If someone was to say this would be a flattering lead for Denver during the game, they might have copped some criticism, but they would have been right, as they were down by as many as 21 in the 3rd quarter. After beginning the quarter down by 18, they reduced the deficit to within 9 in the fourth. However this was not enough to disrupt an experience playoff team like the Spurs as they went on to win 91-78.

Tim Duncan picked up the Sprite Performer of the Game, with a dominant display ending with a double-double (29 points, 13 rebounds). Richard Jefferson supported him excellently, showing a soft shooting touch from outside with 27 points of his own. For Denver, Carmelo Anthony scored 18 points, while three players (Billups, Smith and Andersen) all registered 14 points each.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME 1: DEN @ SAN

SAN: 91 (Duncan 29, Jefferson 27, Ginobili 17)
DEN: 78 (Anthony 18, Billups 14, Smith 14, Andersen 14)

Sprite Performer of the Game: Tim Duncan 29 pts 13 rebs

Rebounds

Denver: Nene, Andersen 6
San Antonio: Duncan 13

Assists

Denver: Billups 7
San Antonio: Parker 6
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game 2: Denver even the score in San Antonio

Image

After going down by 13 in game 1, Denver made the adjustment to win by 13 this time, winning 84-71. JR Smith came up as the top scorer in this game, with 23 points. He's been relatively inconsistent through the playoffs and his performance will be key for the rest of the series. Despite Smith's great performance, it was Nene whow as judged the best picking up a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) and 5 assists to go with that. If he had an omen that it was going to be his game, it was this. Unfortunately for him and the Nuggets, he got the shot off after the buzzer.

For San Antonio, both Parker (22) and Duncan (20) had 20 plus games. They were close enough early, but Denver proved to be too good.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEN: 84 (Smith 23, Nene 16, Billups 13)
SAN: 71 (Parker 22, Duncan 20, Jefferson 17)

Sprite Performer of the Game: Nene 16 pts 10 rebs 5 asts

Rebounds

Denver: Andersen 12
San Antonio: McDyess 11

Assists

Denver: Nene, Anthony, Billups 5
San Antonio: Parker 7
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game 3: San Antonio surge past Denver

Image

A game winning shot by Matt Bonner has given San Antonio the series lead, defeating Denver 65-63. Denver were up by 8 at the beginning of the quarter and were looking set for the series lead heading into their next home game. However a 10-0 run to finish the game had halted the momentum they had in the series.

With San Antonio having an unlikely hero in Matt Bonner at the end of the game, Denver also had one at the beginning. After JR Smith went on a cold streak, Louis Williams provided a spark off the bench with 14 points, which ended up being the game high for Denver.

Now 2-1 down, Denver will have to regroup in their next home game to avoid being down 3-1.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME 3: SAN @ DEN

SAN: 65 (Duncan 16, Jefferson 15, Parker 10)
DEN: 63 (L Williams 14, Anthony 13, Andersen 12)

Sprite Performer of the Game: Chris Andersen 12 pts 12 rbs

Rebounds

Denver: Andersen 12
San Antonio: Duncan 9

Assists

Denver: Billups, Andersen 2
San Antonio: Parker 7
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game 4: San Antonio embarrasses Denver at home

Image

A combination of a hot shooting display from San Antonio (particularly Richard Jefferson) and elementary mistakes by Denver saw the Spurs go up 3-1 in the series. After his inspired effort off the bench, Louis Williams was promoted to the starting lineup in this clash. Unfortunately it yielded little result, with Denver getting thumped 92-75. 5 Spurs players hitting double figures, including bench player Matt Bonner. Denver had 4 double figure scoring players, but only Billups (20) and Anthony (17) got 15+ points.

But once again, the key factor of the game ended up being Tim Duncan, as he picked up the Sprite Performer of the Game with his impressive all round stat line. For Denver, the Birdman picked up a double-double (10 points, 13 rebounds).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME 4: SAN @ DEN

SAN: 92 (Jefferson 23, Parker 21, Ginobili 18)
DEN: 75 (Billups 20, Anthony 17, Smith 13)

Sprite Performer of the Game: Tim Duncan 14 pts 15 rebs 4 ast 3 blk

Rebounds

Denver: Nene 16
San Antonio: Duncan 15

Assists

Denver: Billups 4
San Antonio: Parker 9
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Denver now face an uphill battle to make it to the next stage of the finals. Can they take this one to 7 games as well? Results for the concluding game(s) will be up soon.

Game 5: Denver stay alive

Image

Denver have given their hopes of a series comeback a boost by winning against San Antonio 92-84. Denver fans however could have felt as if their season might be ending in the first quarter, as San Antonio started with a 15-0 run. But both Denver's star wingmen were on the task, as JR Smith and Carmelo Anthony both netted 22 points each. But the Sprite Performer of the Game belonged to the Birdman, as his toughness on the boards in addition to 19 points of his own proved to be the key factor in this game.

GAME 5: DEN @ SAN

DEN: 92 (Smith 27, Anthony 20, Andersen 19)

Denver: Andersen 11
San Antonio: McDyess 11

Game 6: So close, yet so far...

Image

Denver came agonisingly close to forcing a 7th game, but unfortunately were beaten by 4 points at home. Tony Parker was intentionally fouled in the dying seconds of the fourth quarter. He hit both free throws to put San Antonio up by 4, with only enough time left for Denver to put up one more shot. A disappointing end to the season, but it's one to be learned from.
-----------------------------------------
GAME 6: SAN @ DEN

SAN: 91 (Duncan 21, Ginobili 21, Parker 18)

With one season down, I feel like I know what it takes to win it all, just a matter of getting the right mix of talent. Hopefully in the off-season I can get some depth on my bench. Final playoff results to come as well as my off-season.
