It seemed like a good opportunity for the Sixers to make a big trade because they're (amazingly) sitting in second in their conference and had a lot of expendable assets.

The trade worked out quite nicely for me as well.

With Knight gone (and maybe another one or two in the upcoming expansion draft), I should have enough cap room to sign a max-level player.

But I'm not sure if I want to sign a big name free agent, or just re-sign Alex Len and continue to build my team through the draft.

Philadelphia has seemed to do better than they should in recent 2K's. I don't think the sim engine cares how many centers you have on the court, as long as they have decent ratings.

The Brandon Knight deal makes a lot of sense for you long term, though I'm a bit surprised to see a player of his caliber moved when you're in the playoff race. I think you'll still make it though.

I guess I'm just being realistic and focusing more on the future, rather than the playoffs this season. A first round series against San Antonio, Golden State or Oklahoma City is likely gonna be too much for this young team to handle.

Sure, Knight was a handy player to have, but I feel like I can replace him adequately with a player on a cheaper contract. Then I can spend that money on other areas.

Tyson Chandler was the unlikely hero in the first half, with 18 points off the bench.

Chicago only shot 35% in the first half and had only 4 assists. I think 7 points is the least amount I've ever conceded in a quarter before.

I'm not sure if I even noticed it until after the game tbh. Our great defensive effort in the second quarter almost proved pointless though thanks to a horrible effort in the third quarter. Luckily we found a nice rhythm on the offensive end in the fourth.

I think Tyson Chandler scored more points in the second quarter than Chicago did

Wall, Embiid and Simmons? Wow.

Also nice to see Bender playing well. 40 points is an exclamation mark. Keep it up (Y)

The Sixers were already a top 4 team in the east before that trade. Now they might actually be able to seriously challenge Cleveland.

Bender is playing really well since he came back from his injury. I'm trying my best to get him into contention for the rookie of the year award :P

Holy cow John Wall

Amazing write-up on the deal, love how you went into the background of it and explored the other offers as well. Masterpiece. :applaud:

Washington actually doesn't look too bad in the aftermath, but the Sixers are definitely on the map now (Y)

Thanks. I enjoy adding backstory to trades in order to add to the overall game experience.

The Wizards could actually end up being better in a couple of years than they were with Wall. Having Beal, Okafor, Knight, Porter and Oubre (Plus two lottery picks in a good draft this year) isn't the worst situation to be in.

Hopefully Washington and Philadelphia can develop into a nice eastern conference rivalry over the next few years.

We're in a pretty good position at the moment. But we seem to lose the majority of the simmed games, so if I play poorly for a couple in a row we could drop pretty quickly.

The Jazz and Pelicans are still hanging around. It might be a close finish for the 8th seed.

Massive free agency period on the cards in 2017 off-season

Image

As the deadline for teams to sign players to extensions passes by for another year, the attention of front offices across the league now turns to those players who failed to secure a new contract for whatever reason. General managers throughout the NBA are finalising their spreadsheets in order to figure out who is available and who they can afford.

Perhaps the most attention this off-season will be focussed on the Golden State Warriors. They managed to re-sign MVP Stephen Curry to a 4 year, $134 million deal three weeks ago, but they will still have a lot on their plate once the season ends. Star acquisition Kevin Durant is reportedly leaning towards opting out of his $27.7 million player option for next season and exploring his free agency options.

Other than that, the Warriors also have Andre Iguodala, Shaun Livingston, David West, Anderson Varejao, Zaza Pachulia, Ian Clark, James Michael McAdoo and Elliot Williams coming out of contract. If they want to keep the "big four" of Curry, Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green together, then they will probably have to sacrifice most of the players on that list.

It's the same situation they found themselves in when they wanted to sign Durant at the end of last season. They had to get rid of championship players Andrew Bogut, Harrison Barnes and Festus Ezeli to make room for the arrival of the 2014 MVP.

Another team who could face a tricky off-season is the Los Angeles Clippers. Star Duo Chris Paul and Blake Griffin could both opt-out of players options for next season and become free agents. With their failure to make it past the Conference Semifinals since Paul arrived and with them struggling to hold on to the eighth seed this season, it's not implausible that 31 year old Paul could leave and join a contender in the hopes of winning that elusive championship.

There have been rumours floating around that Griffin would consider returning home to Oklahoma City to play alongside Russell Westbrook if Paul does leave the Clippers. It's unknown exactly how this might happen though as the Thunder really don't have the cap space to sign him or the assets to complete a sign-and-trade deal.

Sharpshooter JJ Redick will be an unrestricted free agent, as will Brandon Bass and Raymond Felton. Role players Luc Mbah a Moute and Marreese Speights have player options, whilst 39 year old veteran Paul Pierce will likely call an end to his illustrious career after this season as well.

One player who could possibly be forced to move on is Portland's Mason Plumlee. The Blazers have $122 million in guaranteed salaries next season already, and that is before they deal with the team options on Festus Ezeli, Noah Vonleh and Shabazz Napier. CJ McCollum's salary jumps by $20 million next season as he enters first year of the 4 year, $106 million extension extension that he signed last July.

Portland have nearly $87 million tied up between Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Allen Crabbe and Evan Turner. With another $33 million combined between Meyers Leonard, Maurice Harkless, Al-Farouq Aminu and Ed Davis. Unless billionaire owner Paul Allen is willing to pay exorbitant luxury tax penalties, it's hard to see Plumlee or Ezeli staying in Portland beyond this season. Perhaps they will look to move Crabbe and/or Turner on draft night to free up some cap flexibility.

There will be a nervous wait for fans of several smaller market teams as the likes of Kyle Lowry (Toronto), Gordon Hayward (Utah), Paul Millsap (Atlanta), Rudy Gay (Sacramento) and Danilo Gallinari (Denver) mull over their players options for next season. Veteran Dwyane Wade is expected to opt-in to his $23.8 million player option with the Bulls.

Denver, Boston, Phoenix and Brooklyn could be the biggest players in the free agent market, depending on how things work out. The Nuggets could have around $30 million to spend if Gallinari opts-out and leaves, whilst the Celtics would have enough to sign a max-level player if they let Kelly Olynyk, Amir Johnson and Gerald Green walk.

The Suns also have the possibility of landing a big fish if they decide not to match any offers that center Alex Len may receive. Bojan Bogdanovic is the only significant free agent that the Nets will have to deal with. They will be desperate to secure a big name free agent to pair with Brook Lopez and should have over $30 million to spend.

It is going to be fascinating to see what unfolds as this new era of "superteams" is upon us. Will Durant stay in Oakland or leave to be the big dog on his own team again? Will the Clippers implode if Chris Paul leaves? Who is going to grossly overpay Tyreke Evans and Greg Monroe? We'll have to wait and see..

Simmons is a beast. I'm doing my best to get Bender into contention for ROY, but I'll probably need to get his scoring average over 20 ppg to have any shot.

The fact that Simmons is leading the Sixers from a 10 win season to the second seed is also working against Bender :P

Four losses in a row now

We are somehow still holding onto the 7th seed, but the Clippers and Jazz aren't that far behind now.

Hell no. Really weak Defense on Clarkson here. He got that open look off the bounce ... but sometimes it's hard to stay with the ball handler in 2k

I gotta say, that was bad D lol. Gotta control the big and hedge hard. I know the switch was the last thing wanted but with so little time and difficult shot over my 7 ft guy would be the best outcome.

I'll admit, it wasn't my best defensive effort ever.

But I still kinda got screwed by that damn 2k basket mechanics BS that happens a few times a game for the CPU. I rarely get those shots to bounce in like that :x

Nope, never have.

But maybe that is something that I can start doing next season. It would give me more control over those simmed games.

I really struggled to get through 82 game seasons before they added that. Mind you, I don't play 41 full games (more like 15 or so), but I'll usually jump in if the margin's within single digits going into fourth.

This was a frustrating game to play. We were up by 10 and cruising in the second quarter, but then I got sloppy and they slowly closed the gap.

For the entire second half the margin was never greater than two possessions either way.

Vucevic missed a fairly easy shot in the paint in the final seconds and we hung on to win

I think playing half the games every season is just about the right amount for me. The season goes by quick enough to keep me interested, but I still get to enjoy playing the game.

Next season I should definitely take more control over the simmed games though. It'll just depend on how lazy I am :P

It's the rumored comeback cheese from CPU, I can't seem to hold leads either. You pretty much have to play perfect to get a blowout win unfortunately.

Yep. I've definitely had a few games this season where I've been cruising and then suddenly the CPU just go on crazy 10-0 runs out of nowhere.

Well, that pretty much guarantees you a winning record to end the season (which would be amazing for the real life Suns). Great stuff :applaud:

Hopefully you can win a few more and ensure that playoff spot (Y)

It's good to see you're getting some solid production out of Alex Len. He was a beast for me in NBA 2K16 MyTEAM, so he's become a player I like a lot.

It was always going to be a tough job controlling the Suns, but you're doing well so far. Keep it up (y)

Latest 2017 draft rankings have Duke big man on top

Image

As the NBA playoffs approach for sixteen teams, the time has come for the fans of the remaining fourteen teams to turn their attention to the upcoming draft. There is particular interest this year because the 2017 draft class is rated as one of the best since the legendary 2003 draft.

This year is a bit different from recent drafts though. There hasn't really been an Anthony Davis type player that has stood out above the rest over the course of the college season to be labelled as the consensus number one pick. Literally all of the top ten prospects could be selected anywhere between the first and tenth picks. Another unique thing about this draft class is the amount of guards expected to be taken early on.

After a few years of big men dominating the lottery, this is definitely the year of the guard. The likes of Markelle Fultz (Washington), Dennis Smith Jr (NC State), Frank Ntilikina (Belgium), De'Aaron Fox (Kentucky), Lonzo Ball (UCLA) and Malik Monk (Kentucky) are all projected to be top ten picks.

The Boston Celtics are in prime position to land their first number one draft pick since the league was renamed in 1950. They have the right to swap first round picks with the Nets thanks to the trade that sent Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn in July 2013. Swapping those picks will see them rise up from the late twenties to potentially the first overall pick. It really was an incredible deal made by Danny Ainge.

A team that is familiar with being at the pointy end of the draft is Minnesota. They are looking at their eleventh top ten pick in as many years, with four of those being top three picks. It will be interesting to see what they do with their pick in such a guard-heavy draft after they took Kris Dunn with the fifth overall pick last year. Harry Giles would be an ideal selection for them as he would fit in alongside Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins quite nicely.

Washington are still on track to have two lottery picks after the John Wall trade, despite an upturn in form lately. They will very much be looking to land one of the point guards available as a long-term replacement for Wall.

One familiar face that will be missing from the early stages of the draft this year is Philadelphia. After picking up Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor, Nerlens Noel and Dario Saric in recent years, the Sixers have taken a different approach this season by trading some of their accumulated assets to acquire all-star guard John Wall in a trade with Washington and Phoenix. That deal saw them trade both of their 2017 first round picks.

Their 2017 first round pick that is now owned by the Suns is likely to be in the mid-twenties anyway, thanks to their impressive form in recent months. Philadelphia are no longer the laughing stock of the NBA.

It is somewhat ironic that after taking big men in three consecutive drafts, the Sixers actually won't have a high-end pick in a draft that is full of guards.

Hopefully you can win a few more and ensure that playoff spot (Y)

We've done much better than I expected this season. I was actually expecting to get a decent lottery pick when I started this.

If we can secure the eighth seed, our reward will probably be a first round series against either Golden State or San Antonio

It was always going to be a tough job controlling the Suns, but you're doing well so far. Keep it up (y)

Len has been the biggest surprise this season. He actually got a triple-double in one game

Hopefully he doesn't ask for too much money at the end of the season.

Nice draft article. Giles is projected mid-first round in my game. Hopefully it doesn't foreshadow you missing the playoffs!

I guess it's been a while since I updated this draft class.

It also shows that 2k are as good at predicting draft positions as real life analysts :P
