NBA officially announce Montreal as 30th team

NEW YORK (AP) — The Montreal Ravens officially joined the NBA on Monday after majority owner David Parker made the final payment on the team's $500 million expansion fee.

The Ravens become the league's 30th team and will begin play next season.

"We are delighted to welcome the city of Montreal into the NBA." Commissioner David Stern said.

Parker, chief executive officer of Parker Tech, was awarded the expansion franchise in November 1994.

The Ravens will select at least 14 players from the other 29 NBA teams or in the free agents pool in June 22. Teams will be allowed to protect eight players, and no team may lose more than one player.

Montreal has a protected lottery pick and the highest percentage to win the lottery with 25%, and also the 2nd pick in the second round (32nd overall pick), in the 1996 draft.

The Ravens will play their inaugural season at the WestJet Centre which opened their doors for the Ravens last month.

Montreal will play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference with neighbor Toronto, Boston, Brooklyn, New York, and Philadelphia, under the NBA's new divisional alignment, which goes into effect next season.

Ravens sign veteran forward Dominique Wilkins

Montreal - Dominique Wilkins, also known as "The Human Highlight Film", is going back to play in the NBA after signing a two-year deal with the newly-formed Montreal Ravens worth $6.4 million. Wilkins last played for the Boston Celtics but played for Greece in the better part of 1995 looks to give the NBA another chance.

Nique thinks he can still play the same way he played in his last time in the NBA when he averaged almost 20 points per game for the Celtics. Wilkins is expected to be a starter and the leader of the team this season.

This is a cool idea. I've always wanted to do a relocation/expansion game myself.

Are you aiming for the playoffs or is this a building team?

With this kind of team, I'm going to be surprised if we ever even qualify for the playoffs. Going to sim the 1st season later so we'll see.

Fair enough. I wasn't sure because I have only heard of four players on your team

Good luck in the draft.

I just finished simulating the 1st season. If you guys were wondering why it took me a day and a half, the roster was very buggy and prone to crashes so it took me time to figure out what was causing it. Season recap and offseason news later.

1996 Players Stats

There was no surprise at all for me that we sucked in our first year. Keep in mind, these are players that were from 16 different teams so the chemistry's still being worked upon during the regular season.

Dominique Wilkins aka the Human Highlight Film has shown the NBA that he still has it by often dunking on opposing players who tried to stop him. With 'Nique doing his best as the primary scorer and leader of the team, Brad Daugherty surprised us with his stellar performance all season long as well. Daugherty played 68 games this season but in his books, that's a miracle. Aside from Wilkins averaging 24 and Daugherty averaging 23, there was no one in the current Ravens roster who scored 10 or more points per game although Ennis Whatley came close with 9.9 ppg.

Now that the season's over, we can now move on to the offseason and most importantly, the NBA Draft. I'm eyeing on getting a particular player who I think would fit very well with our team. It shouldn't be a problem since we have the highest chance to pick 1st in the draft. We'll just have to wait and see.

BASKETBALL GODS DENY RAVENS' DREAM OF THE 1ST PICK

It was all gone. The Montreal Ravens ended the season with only 27 wins but with high hopes. They were coming in the NBA Draft with a 25% chance, the highest of any team, to get the 1st pick but the dream was all gone the second they heard their name come before the 1st pick.

When asked about the controversial ending of the Lottery, GM David Parker had something to say.

"Obviously this changes everything for us. Back then, we were all saying 'We're going to get this guy. No problemo." but now, we can't. It changes everything. Now we have to plan it out, heck even try trading on draft night to see if we can get some extra picks."

The Milwaukee Bucks were the ones who stole the spotlight from them. What's more interesting is that they only had a 9% chance on getting the pick but it still worked out in the end.

"We can't fault the league for what happened! C'mon that's ridiculous. David's still new in the block and he still has a lot to learn as a GM. I think newcomers like him always stick to statistics way too much - they need to take in account the miracles brought upon by God."

The quote above was from the GM of the Bucks after getting asked about Parker's statement.

Too bad, btw why did you assumed that you have the best chance of winning the lottery but you don't have the worst record on the league. Milwaukee, Memphis and Dallas has worst record than you.

Phil89, welp I just finished the draft so you'll just have to wait and see.

dare, didn't the Bobcats in 04 or 03 got assigned a pick in the draft? That's what I was going for but there's a limit on until where/what you can edit the game so what I did was I traded my 2 1st round picks to the Grizzlies so I get a 25% chance and them, a 15.6% chance.

Bryant: "I'm excited but not hopeful"

An hour after getting drafted by the Montreal Ravens, Kobe Bryant sat down with the media. Bryant was asked about the Ravens' future and how he think he can fit in with the team.

"I'm excited to be the newest addition to this franchise but I'm not hopeful or even dreaming of winning a championship next season. That, to me, might still be 2 or 3 seasons away from now. As to how I can fit to the team, I think me and this franchise has a lot in common. I know, for sure, that we're both young and just starting out. Just feeling the game in general. The other part is that I know me and this franchise is destined for glory. We might not look like the Bulls or the Lakers right now but give us some time. We'll get there."

RAVENS WIN SEASON-OPENER IN MONTREAL

Image

Utah Jazz 73 @ Montreal Ravens 97

Oct. 30, Montreal - The Ravens' rookie, Kobe Bryant, came to play ball tonight in his debut game. He finished with a team-leading 24 points with 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Bryant also shot the ball particularly well for a rookie entering his first game of his career with high expectations as he only missed 5 attempts to accumulate 10 makes in 15 shots.

It wasn't just the 2nd overall pick that came to play for them tonight. The Ravens' 21st pick, Ray Allen, had 22 points on the night while making 4 of his 5 attempts from downtown.

"I think it was just my competitiveness and drive to prove everybody wrong that motivated me to perform like this. I'll tell you right now though, 24 is a small number for a guy like me. Believe me." said Bryant of his performance tonight.

It wasn't such a great story for the Utah Jazz. Karl Malone attempted 22 shots tonight and managed to only hit 8 of those en route to a 20-point game. Stockton also were of no use for the Jazz in the offensive end where he shot 33% on the field.

"We just couldn't make any defensive stops and they were just rolling past us in fast breaks. Gotta review the tape so this won't happen to us again." Stockton implied on his team's lucid defense.

Montreal led most of the time and Utah only came as close to 4 at one point in the 3rd quarter where they sparked a 17-2 run.

NOTES:
The Ravens shot the ball at a 57% clip and got a massive 32 points from the players on the bench......... They also blocked 11 more shots than Utah and once led by 21 points in the 2nd quarter...... Robert Pack was taken out of the game for the whole quarter after his nasty fall but came back early in the 4th quarter... Aaron Williams sent 4 shots away tonight, a career high for him.....

Player of the Game: Kobe Bryant (24 pts, 2 rebs, 2 stls, 10-15 FG, 1-3 3PT)

Ravens:
R. Allen (22 pts, 2 rebs, 2 blks, 4-5 3PT)
D. Wilkins (11 pts, 5 rebs)
B. Daugherty (6 pts, 10 rebs, 4 asts, 1 blk)

Jazz:
K. Malone (20 pts, 3 rebs, 1 blk)
J. Stockton (9 pts, 11 asts)
J. Schumacher (6 pts, 13 rebs)

RAVENS CLOSE OUT KNICKS IN OT

Image

New York Knicks @ Montreal Ravens 103-113

Nov. 11, Montreal - Montreal outscored the Knicks in OT, 10 to nothing, to escape with a victory. The Ravens were led by rookie Kobe Bryant whose been on a tear lately, averaging 27 ppg in the last 5 games, with an outstanding 30-point performance to go along with an impressive 61% in the field.

"I've been having some pain on my left ankle for the entire game but I decided to play through it and I guess it all worked out on my part. For me, I just wanted to close out the game." said the 19 year-old rookie of his performance.

Aside from Kobe, Allen and Williams also stepped up tonight and scored 25 and 22 respectively for the Ravens.

"Even though I didn't shoot the ball quite well as I wanted to, I knew they were all great looks and I'll eventually knock them down. Coach's out there shouting at me whenever I don't let one fly when I'm open so I just did what I was supposed to do." replied Ray Allen when a reporter asked him about his 4 of 12 shooting from downtown.

For the Knicks, it was just 32 year-old veteran John Starks that contributed offensively. Starks finished with 30 points in 50% shooting and a 5 of 9 clip from beyond the arc.

"It was a good game for me but I can't say the same thing to my team. We played like shit tonight as a team and just have to talk about it so we can sort out what was wrong." said Starks.

Eric Montross grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds for the Knicks but was shut down offensively by the inside presence of Williams and Daugherty as he only accumulated 10 points in 4 of 14 shooting.

NOTES:
The Ravens improve to 4-3, which makes them 7th in the Eastern Conference..... Brad Daugherty of the Montreal Ravens has been suffering from back spasms since last week but decided to play through it..... The Ravens shot 80% in the FT line compared to the Knicks' 59%...... Montreal got a lot of their points off the bench led by Allen's 25; The Ravens had 40 points off the bench....

Player of the Game: Kobe Bryant (30 pts, 2 rebs, 1 blk, 11-19 FG, 3-6 3PT)

Ravens:
R. Allen (25 pts, 5 asts, 4-12 3PT)

RAVENS BLOW 15-POINT LEAD IN THE 4TH QUARTER

Montreal Ravens @ Philadelphia 76ers 94-103

Dec. 1, Philadelphia - The 1st half ended with the Ravens leading the 76ers by 21 points thanks to Bryant's 24-point first half. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the Ravens were still hanging on to a comfortable 15-point lead. 4th Quarter came and it was just pure chaos.

The 76ers opened the 4th quarter with an and-1 and a three-pointer all by 76er sophomore Jerry Stackhouse which cut the lead to 9. With 5 minutes remaining in the game, the Ravens couldn't get a shot to fall for them until a full 2 minutes. By then, Philadelphia inched closer and closer to them and were only 3 points away to take the lead. A three-pointer from Derrick Coleman with 2:03 remaining sent the 76ers crowd on a frenzy. After taking the lead, the Ravens were in panic mode and failed to score again for a minute. Philadelphia finished the game with a 12-2 run and the victory over Montreal.

Philadelphia was led by Carlos Arroyo who had 27 points on the night paired with 9 rebounds and 2 steals. Arroyo also shot the ball perfectly tonight as he shot 11 of 11 attempts.

Although he didn't shoot a perfect 100 for the Ravens, Bryant still managed to score 36 points in total with a 14 for 26 mark.

Kobe Bryant played his first game in his hometown, Philadelphia, after getting drafted this season as the 2nd pick. Bryant has been averaging 24.1 ppg and was met by a mix of cheers and boos from the crowd when the lineups were being announced.

"It's good to be back here, man. Mom, Dad, and the whole family, can finally see me play for the first time. It's like a family reunion and it's been a blessing for all of us." said Kobe.

NOTES:
Aside from the three-pointer that Coleman put up for the lead, the 76ers failed to shoot any more than 1 3PT tonight with 1 for 17 attempts going down for them.... Bryant tied his season-high in points in his hometown.... Daugherty still playing with back spasms.... Ravens shot 41% on the night, a season-low for them.... 76ers outscored the Ravens 54 to 32 in the paint.....

Player of the Game: Carlos Arroyo (27 pts, 9 rebs, 2 asts, 1 blk, 11-11 FG)

Ravens:
K. Bryant (36 pts, 3 rebs, 1 ast, 1 blk, 14-26 FG, 1-5 3PT)
B. Daugherty (15 pts, 15 rebs)
R. Allen (13 pts, 4 asts, 3-4 3PT)

Ravens’ Pack tears MCL, will need surgery

Montreal Ravens point guard Robert Pack will undergo surgery in the coming days to repair a torn mcl, the team announced Friday. No timetable has yet been set for his return to the court. The Ravens say Pack suffered the tear during the 3rd quarter of Montreal's 94-103 loss over the Philadelphia 76ers last Friday night.

It's a big blow for the already-struggling Ravens (7-9), who have lost six of nine games.

ORLANDO SHOCKS MONTREAL

Orlando Magic @ Montreal Ravens 72-67

Dec. 13, Montreal - With their worst franchise record of 67 points in a game, the Ravens still managed to fight against the Magic. Poor shooting for both teams contributed heavily on the low-scoring game with both teams shooting under 48%.

Montreal was led by Kobe Bryant who had 26 points in the night but committed 6 turnovers in the process. Veteran big man Brad Daugherty managed to get get 17 points and 1 block in 8-20 shooting. All of Montreal's players were either -1 or -5 in the plus/minus rating tonight.

"We didn't play as good as we wanted to but we're going to bounce back next game." said Daugherty of his team's performance.

For Orlando, Shaq did his best to keep his team afloat after a scary late run by the Ravens in the 4th quarter. Shaq, who just signed a $45M deal with the Orlando Magic last night, posted a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds with 2 blocks.

"I'm just happy that I get to stay here longer in Orlando, man. Huge props to the Ravens for letting us break our 6-game losing streak." quoted Shaq.

NOTES:
Aaron Williams scored 0 points in 0-10 shooting.... Both teams recorded their season-low scoring game.... Shaquille O'Neal was playing with a bruised tailbone.... Montreal was without Coach Howell because of personal reasons tonight....

Player of the Game: Shaquille O'Neal (24 pts, 13 rebs, 5 asts, 2 blks, 3-11 FT)

Looks like you're playing a little bit better than last season. Are you aiming for the playoffs?

Rookie Kobe is playing great (Y)

Yeah the new roster is a main part of it. I might get in the playoffs if Daugherty can stay healthy.

Re: ||Montreal Ravens|| Wilkins announces retirement and 15-Game Recap[11-19]

LATE COMEBACK NOT ENOUGH TO BEAT RAPTORS

Toronto Raptors @ Montreal Ravens 77-70

Jan. 1, Montreal - Toronto had no problems holding back the Ravens in the 1st half and most of the 2nd half but a 10-to-nothing run by the Ravens almost cost them the game. In the stretch of 3 possessions, Kobe Bryant of the Ravens stole the ball 3 times from sophomore Damon Stoudamire which ended on a thunderous dunk on the other end.

The Raptors decided to step up their game with a minute left in the game when Tracy Murray hit a pair of tough jump shots against Dominique Wilkins. After a 4-0 run by the Raptors, the Ravens couldn't answer back and was 0 for 4 in the last minute of the game.

Damon Stoudamire and Tracy Murray led the Raptors tonight with 31 and 28 respectively.

For the Ravens, it was only Bryant who scored 11+ or more points as he ended with 25 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, and 1 block.

NOTES:
There were only 2 players of Montreal that scored in double digits (Bryant & Daugherty)...... Dominique Wilkins announced this is his last season in the NBA......

Player of the Game: Damon Stoudamire (31 pts, 3 rebs, 5 asts, 1 stl)

Ravens:
K. Bryant (25 pts, 4 rebs, 3 asts, 4 stls, 1 blk)
B. Daugherty (10 pts, 9 rebs, 2 blks)
A. Williams (8 pts, 5 rebs)

Raptors:
T. Murray (28 pts, 7 rebs, 1 ast)
B. Williams (8 pts, 6 rebs)
A. Robertson (5 pts, 4 rebs, 7 asts, 4 stls)

Guys btw I'm really sorry if I'm lacking in the pictures/screenshots part. Mainly because I was too stupid that I took screenshots of ANOTHER game rather than the presented game here.

Try to get a decent rebounder for your team. I would love to see Rodman on your team as well as Ilgauskas maybe? Anyways the season doesn't go well for Montreal they're still deep in rebuilding trying to get those draft picks. Not long left until Kobe will be able to step it up for the Ravens.

P.S. I would like to ask you how do you do those html tables?
