NBA 2K16 Nets MyGM: Heat Check-Thaddeus Young

Postby JStorm101 on Mon Dec 21, 2015 5:57 am

Hello and welcome to my first ever Association/Dynasty that I will be sharing on these forums.

The team that I will be selecting is the Brooklyn Nets for two reasons:

1) I like the team
2) I want to see if its physically possible to make them even close to a good NBA team.

I will be playing one game in every five and only elimination games in the playoffs

Settings
These are the settings I'm going to be using:

Difficulty: Superstar
Sliders: Simulation
Quarter Length: 8 Minutes
Sim Quarter Length: 12 minutes

(If there is anything that I've missed just tell me)

Line-up
This is the line-up that I will be using:

Starters

Image Image Image Image Image
PG: Jarret Jack/SG: Wayne Ellington/SF: Joe Johnson/PF: Thaddeus Young/C: Brook Lopez

Bench

Image Image Image Image Image Image Image
6th: Thomas Robinson/B2: Donald Sloan/B3: Andrea Bargnani/B4: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson/B5: Bojan Bogdanovic/B6: Shane Larkin/B7: Willie Reed

I think that's all so I guess I'll see everyone in the first 5 game recap. Enjoy

5 Game Recap: Ugly Opener

Postby JStorm101 on Fri Dec 25, 2015 1:32 am

Sorry about the delay, time of year and all, so here it is.

Bulls shut out Nets in season opener

Image Image

This first 5 game stretch was not good for the Nets, and it can be summed up almost perfectly in this game. The Bulls dominated in every way, and most notably the point guards and shooting guards did not play well. Jarrett Jack had a 5-16 on field goals, and Ellington and Sloan had a 1-12 COMBINED. RHJ and T Rob had pretty good scoring games, each having a 5-7, and 12 and 10 points respectively, but other than that it was not a good game.

Scores

L 73-97 vs Bulls
L 81-103 @ San Antonio
L 109-114 @ Memphis (OT)
L 102-105 vs Bucks
L 89-93 @ Atlanta

The only bright side is that they got a bit close near the end :?

Target List

J. Johnson (Ext.)
M. Carter-Williams (Backup PG)

Trade Block

W. Ellington

Notable Performances
J. Jack 23 points, 6 rebs, 3 steals (G2)/ B. Lopez 18 points, 15 rebs, 2 blocks (G2)/ T. Robinson 6 points, 15 rebs (G2)/ A. Bargnani 22 points, 8-12 FG, 4-6 3P (G3)/ B. Lopez 21 points, 9 rebs, 3 blocks (G3)/ D. Sloan 12 points, 8 assists (G3)/ J. Johnson 11 points, 9 assists (G3)/ J. Jack 19 points, 8 assists (G4)/ T. Young 20 points, 8-12 FG, 2-4 3P (G5)

J. Jack 5-16 FG, 3-12 3P (G1)/ W. Ellington 1-6 FG (G1)/ D. Sloan 0 points, 0-6 FG, 0-5 3P (G1)/ J. Johnson 4-16 FG, 0-3 3P (G2)/ A. Bargnani 4 TOs, 4-11 FG (G2)/ J. Jack 5-22 FG (G3)/ J. Johnson 2 points, 1-7 FG (G4)/ B. Lopez 3 TOs, 6-17 FG (G5)/ J. Jack 4 TOs, 6-13 FG ( G5)/ A. Bargnani 2 points, 1-9 FG (G5)

Around The League

Jeff Green out for regular season already, Derrick Rose out with broken nose (see this game is realistic), Westbrook gets first and probably not last triple-double of the season, 76ers, Hornets, Pacers and Nets are all without any wins to start the season

I hope you enjoyed this and I look forward to getting to continue playing :D

Report: Ellington gotta go!

Image

Informants have notified media that the Brooklyn Nets are openly shopping Wayne Ellington. The several negative/unimportant performances that have caused Ellington to be labeled "The Waynebreaker" instead of "maker have started to get on team management's nerves. We have been told that a trade could happen as early as the end of the month. Stay tuned for more.

5 Game Recap: We Won A Game!

Postby JStorm101 on Fri Dec 25, 2015 6:42 am

Warriors crush slight hopes for Brooklyn

Image Image

This time around the Nets actually won a game (I know)! Unfortunately this was bittersweet as they would lose by 7, 54(!) and 38 in the next three games. The third of which came at the hands of Golden State. The Splash Brothers had 20 points each, Leandro Barbosa came close with 19, and Draymond Green cleaned up with 10 points and 9 rebounds, 3 of which were offensive. And considering that the Nets need for players with 15+ points just to win a game, they didn't really have much of a chance. But they still (ironically) beat the Bucks!

Scores

L 79-88 vs Lakers
W(!) 114-89 @ Milwaukee
L 102-109 @ Houston
L 83-137(!) @ Sacramento
L 70-108 @ Golden State

(Key for next bit added dropped)

Target List

Nets 2016 1st Round Pick
M. Carter-Williams (realised that point guard is one of our few alright positions)

Injuries

B. Lopez (Bruised right hip) 1-2 weeks
D. Sloan (Pulled left calf muscle) 1-2 weeks

Notable Performances
B. Lopez 23 points, 10-18 FG, 1-1 3P (G1)/ T. Young 14 points, 7 rebs, 5 assists, 5-7 FG, 1-1 3P (G1)/ J. Jack 21 points, 6 assists (G2)/ A. Bargnani 20 points, 13 rebs, 2 blocks (G2)/ T. Young 16 points, 10 rebs (G2)/ B. Lopez 15 points, 7 rebs (G2)/ T. Robinson 14 points, 12 rebs (G2)/ A. Bargnani 23 points, 6 rebs (G3)/ T. Robinson 18 points, 6 rebs (G3)/ A. Bargnani 22 points, 9-15 FG (G4)/ R. Hollis-Jefferson 11 points, 5-5 FG (G5)

W. Ellington 33 mins, 0 points, 0-4 FG (G1)/ J. Jack 6-24 FG, 5 TOs (G1)/ J. Johnson 2-10 FG (G1)/ J. Jack 2-16 FG (G4)/ B. Bogdanovic 2-10 FG, 2-9 3P (G5)

Sorry about no around the league (I forgot to write it down and advanced too far to find it) :?

Trade Report: Not What You Were Expecting

Image

Fans were shocked today as it was found out that the Brooklyn Nets have traded Willie Reed, Markel Brown and 3 draft picks for Leandro Barbosa and Brandon Rush. Many people were shocked as it seemed that the Nets were going to trade Wayne Ellington due to his several negative performances over the past couple of weeks. The Nets must have been very impressed by Leandro Barbosa and his 19 point outburst a few days ago, as they've traded away their last draft picks for the next four years.
Stay tuned for more information.

Gave up too much for Barbosa with 3 draft picks. Are all of those 1st round picks?

I know, I know. I had a much better trade with 1 pick but I accidentally removed a player and when I put him back in they wouldn't accept the trade and I got tunnel vision and just wanted the trade to go through. I guess I just have to roll with it now. (btw it was Celtics 2017 1st and 2nd and Nets 2019 1st)

5 Game Recap: Slow Progress

Postby JStorm101 on Sat Jan 02, 2016 5:00 am

Late Surge Not Enough As Celtics Down Nets

Image Image

This 5 game set went arguably well for Brooklyn (by their standards) with them picking up only their second win of the season in a very close game against Charlotte. But the key game... not so much. At one point in the third they were down by 25 points. It took a 20 point explosion from their new acquisition "The Brazilian Blur" Leandro Barbosa to even get them within 10. But by the end it was a 3-4 possession game with a shot clock and a half left and they just couldn't pull through. Hopefully they could win a key game FOR ONCE next time.

Scores

L 85-98 vs Hawks
W 103-101 @ Charlotte
L 94-111 @ Boston
L 86-97 vs Celtics
L 86-115 @ Oklahoma City

Injuries

B. Lopez (Bruised Right Hip) Day-to-Day

Notable Performances

T. Young 16 points, 8 rebs, 3 blocks (G1)/ J. Jack 16 points, 8 assists (G1)/ T. Robinson 8 points, 12 rebs (G1)/ J. Jack 20 points, 2 steals (G2)/ T. Young 17 points, 16 rebs (G2)/ A. Bargnani 15 points, 9 rebs (G2)/ J. Johnson 14 points, 8 rebs, 5 assists (G2)/ J. Jack 29 points, 13-14 FT (G3)/ T. Young 13 points, 10 rebs (G3)/ L. Barbosa 20 points (G4)/ J. Jack 18 points, 4 steals (G4)/ A. Bargnani 17 points, 9 rebs (G4)/ T. Young 11 points, 10 rebs, 5 assists (G5)/ T. Robinson 11 points, 10 rebs (G5)

J. Jack 6 TO, 5-16 FG, 0-4 3P (G5)/ D. Sloan 5 TO, 1-4 3P (G5)

Around The League
(I remembered this time  )

OKC continue 9 game win streak, Orlando meanwhile have lost 6 straight, Melo possibly out for season with broken kneecap, Charlotte Hornets have won only 1 game in 15!

Knicks Turn Down Nets In Hometown Battle

Image Image

The Nets were feeling good going into this game, but feeling bad on the way out. No matter what they did, it seemed like the Knicks were always 10 points ahead. Barbosa had 25 points, and Jarrett Jack had one of the better all-around games of his career, but it didn't matter. Melo had a good 28 points, and Jose Calderon EXPLODED for 35 points, and that's really all they needed.

Scores

L 96-141 @ Cleveland
W 105-113 vs Pistons
L 115-94 vs Suns
L 92-101 @ New York
W 97-102 vs Warriors(!)

Target List

Joe Johnson (Contract Extended)

Trade Block

Donald Sloan (One word: Injuries)

Injuries

D. Sloan (Bruised Right Shoulder) 1-2 weeks

Notable Performances

Around The League

Andre Drummond will be out for 4-6 weeks with a broken leg, Jimmy Butler drops career-high 44 points, Mavericks lose 8th straight with Nowitski out with hip bruising, Hornets go to 0-11 at home

PPG: Kevin Durant - 28.5

APG: Russell Westbrook - 10.6
SPG: Eric Bledsoe - 3.2
BPG: Anthony Davis - 3.1
PER: Blake Griffin - 28.3

Team Awards

Player Of The Month

Image

Leandro Barbosa (1st)

A mid-month trade wasn't enough to slow down LB, as the transition from role player to starter has caused several major 20+ point scoring outbursts, and Leandrinho (how many nicknames does this guy have?) has now become a main cog in the Nets' system. He is currently averaging 9 points per game, but since arriving in Brooklyn he is regularly posting 12+ points. Other nominations include Jarrett Jack and Brook Lopez, but they were turned down because of bad field goal percentage and a mid-month injury respectively. Barbosa was voted simply because of his great contribution to the team without much downside.

Defensive Player Of The Month

Image

Thaddeus Young (1st)

This last month has been good for Thaddeus. He is close to averaging a double-double in points and rebounds in the last ten games and is generally considered the best all-around player on the team. He has had several great games and if there is any downside to his game, then he definitely isn't showing it. He is very much thriving in the Nets enviroment. Brook Lopez was also in the running for this award, but his contribution was definitely cut short by the injury causing him to miss half of the month.

Bench Player Of The Month

Image

Andrea Bargnani (1st)

Andrea was a surprise scoring machine this month, with 3 20+ point games in the 5 game stretch leading up to the Barbosa trade. A lot of the scoring load has been lifted since then, but he is still a very effective contributor. And with T-Rob being the only other stand-out from the bench so far, The Barg (definitely should be his nickname) seemed like a front runner to win this award.

Fantasy Player Of The Month

Image

Bojan Bogdanovic (1st)

This award goes to the player that despite uninspiring play, still somehow seems to be very consistent statistically. Bojan is one such player. Every game where he gets significant minutes, he always gets to around the 14 point mark. This is very good as a lot of players on the team struggle to put up more than 10 points per game. He hasn't really done much significant things on the court, but always seems to score a good amount. You may think this is a negative award, but that is coming up next.

Disappointment Of The Month

Image

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (1st)

Nobody expected RHJ to come in and instantly make a serious impact, but they were kind of hoping for it. He hasn't really done well on the offensive end, rarely scoring more than ten points, but people didn't expect him to do that. They expected him to do work defensively, but he hasn't done that either. Not once has he recorded 2 or more blocks or steals, and he rarely has more than a couple rebounds per game. All-around people are just hoping that he progresses well in the future.

5 Game Recap: So we lost to the sixers

Postby JStorm101 on Fri Jan 22, 2016 6:25 am

Wroten stuns at the buzzer as Sixers beat Nets

Image Image

So this set of games didn't go so well. The Nets only got one win which was against the Rockets, and LOST TO THE 76ERS in a very close game thanks to a Tony Wroten buzzer beater. Wroten had a very good game with a 13-point, 11-assist double-double, and Hollis Thompson 'chipped in' with 21 points, one of five sixers with double digit points. The Nets did have their own 21 point scorer (Leandro Barbosa) and double-double playmaker (Jarret Jack 19 points, 10 assists) but no-one else really played well, as only 3 players scored in double digits for the Nets. A bright spot in an otherwise bleak stretch was Thaddeus Young. He had a double-double in 4 out of 5 games, including a 30 point, 11 rebound outburst against the Rockets, and 27 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks in a close loss against the Magic. Look out for his first 'heat check', in which I take a look at a player that is playing really well and essentialy challenging him to be awesome. Be sure to tune in.

Scores

W 107-99 vs Rockets
L 95-98 vs 76ers
L 92-112 vs Clippers
L 105-108 vs Magic
L 89-121 vs Heat

(These were all at home. So much for a home court advantage  )

Notable Performances

Around The League

John Henson out for season with torn right achilles, Lilliard scores 32 points with 16 assists in a big double-double performance, Houston Rockets have lost 6 games in a row, Every single team in the Northwest division are above .500 (apart from the Nuggets).

I have played so far ahead in this MyGM. The forum is in mid-December, my game is in late January!

Heat Check: Thaddeus Young

Postby JStorm101 on Thu Jan 28, 2016 4:02 am

Heat Check: Thaddeus Young

Image

A weird thing has happened of late: a 2007 lottery pick (other than Joakim Noah) is living up to expectations. Thaddeus Young has been on a tear lately, recording 4 triple-doubles and 6 games with 14+ points and 9+ rebounds in the last half-month alone. This is a rare positive in an otherwise negative season for the struggling Nets, as they are currently attempting the daunting task of rebuilding without any draft picks. Thaddeus has done incredibly regardless, and is a primary force in Brooklyn.
