Raptors Come Back To Defeat Sixers 62-59 In Pre-Season Opener (Team Stats)
October 4, 2010 - I had already written half of an article talking about how this was the worst Raptors team in franchise history, and this year's New Jersey Nets. How its a tragedy that Hedo Turkoglu failed his physical. How DeMar DeRozan is a glorified Nick Young, and Andrea Bargnani a more expensive Vladimir Radmanovic. Then I noticed that we weren't down 20-2 any more.
Indeed, the demoralizing first quarter of the abbreviated pre-season game was hard to watch. The Sixers, far from an offensive juggernaut were going to town on our lackluster defense, and we couldn't buy a shot. After getting drunk, I sat down to write a scathing aricle. When I looked up, the score was 25-18. Thanks to hot shooting by Andre Iguodala and Jrue Holiday, the Sixers recovered to take a 37-24 lead at the half, but that was short-lived.![]()
--------------Ball. | Who's soft now?
The second half was a sea change. After suffering through some painfully bad D (or lack thereof), it was truly amazing to see the boys in black and red suffocate the Sixers. Bargs had a block party, while DeMarvelous shut down Iggy. We were down just four going into the fourth quarter, which we opened with a 12-2 run to take our first lead. We led by as many as ten, before letting the Sixers cut it close at the last minute. We managed to hold on and win 62-59.
Boris Diaw proved that he could still play the 5 position, by scoring a game high 14 points, grabbing 5 boards, and holding the opposing Spencer Hawes to four points on a team killing 2-9 shooting. DeMar had a solid all-around 9/4/4 line, while Bargs had 4 blocks. I had expected the foul prone Amir Johnson to play more in these half games, with his fouls not being an issue, but he disappointingly only played 7 scoreless minutes.
Nonetheless, it was a very impressive and encouraging performance, even if it was a half game that didn't court. There may be hope for a 30 win season after all. For the 76ers, it looks like another long year in the city where its always sunny. Mo Speights and Jrue Holiday looked solid, but #2 pick Evan Turner had his struggles, scoring 2 points on 1-6 shooting. Should be a good fight between us, Philly and the Nets for third place in the weak Atlantic division.

Shaq To The Raptors?
Indeed, Shaquille O'Neal remains a free agent. The 38 year old Shaq is a former MVP and four-time NBA champion. However, he averaged career lows in scoring (12.0), rebounding (6.7) and minutes played last season for the disappointing Cleveland Cavaliers. With no real Centers on the roster (save for the very raw Solomon Alabi), the Raptors may be willing to take a punt on Shaq. We could only offer the veteran's minimum, but with the lack of market interest, Shaq may be inclined to accept. What do you guys think?

Weekly Round-Up: 2010 Pre-Season Part 1
October 15, 2010 - We are now halfway through the 2010 NBA pre-season and our Raptors sit at a reasonable 2-2. However, their Pythagorean record is 1-3, and the only legit team they've played so far is the Celtics. DeMar DeRozan has been DeMarvelous, and Jarrett Jack has been consistent, but the rest of the Craps have been erratic at best. Even Andrea Bargnani has disappointed since his excellent debut. Rumors have Shaquille O'Neal linked to the Bulls, but lets hope new GM Washburn can pull a last minute coup to snare the Big Diesel.Curry, Warriors Spoil Raptors' Home Debut![]()
Kleiza dominated until Triano yanked him for no reason | The Unicorn: Brandan Wright playing------------------------
October 9, 2010 - After watching the Raptors' thrilling 62-59 comeback win to kick off the pre-season, I had high hopes for their second pre-season win. They didn't disappoint at first, jumping out to a 13-6 lead. Then, turnovers, sloppy play and lackluster defense happened. [u[Andrea Bargnani[/u] couldn't buy a bucket (0-7 FG), and we had no answer for second year stud Stephen Curry, who exploded for 18 points. Marco Belinelli got some decent burn after not playing in the first game, finishing with 7 efficient points, while our starting backcourt of Jack and DeRozan combined for 21 points on 13 shots. Unfortunately, a comeback never happened, as Golden State cruised to a 64-52 win.15 17 20 12 64 | Curry: 18/2/6; B. Wright: 8/6/2; R. Williams: 10/3/4

Defending East Champs Annihilate Craptors![]()
Ed Davis UNLEASHED. | Turk defending KG...
October 11, 2010 - I guess one blowout home loss deserves another. The defending East champs took a dump on us. Andrea Bargnani and Leandro Barbosa had decent games, but our pathetic Defense allowed the Celtics 63% shooting, and Paul Pierce 14 points on 5-6 shooting. The game looked good for us at the start, with us winning the first quarter 16-10. Then Boston flipped the script in the second, and we never recovered. We did finally see Ed Davis though, who scored 8 points and grabbed 5 boards in his 13 minutes of play. Unfortunately, we never could seem to get a stop, and were blown out 63-48.10 22 18 13 63 | Pierce: 14/4/3; Garnett: 14/4/2; Rondo: 4/3/8

------------------------------Heir Canada took over. | Nash got a bigger ovation than the "home team"
October 14, 2010 - In a special game in Vancouver, we took on Canadien Steve Nash and the gutted Phoenix Suns. Nash got a standing ovation, and after that, it looks like it would be all Suns. Despite red hot shooting from J-Rich, we managed to hold our own in the first half. In the second half, DeMar DeRozan led a Raptors run that would give them a small lead, which they would hold for the rest of the game. DeRozan led with 15 points, and showed off his improved long-range shooting by hitting not one, but two treys. We improved to 2-2 on the pre-season.13 17 8 12 50 | Nash: 13/1/4; J.
