Alright, last story/update before Saturday's upcoming 3-game recap:

Morey on the Money

Knock Knock Knock

"Come in," said Daryl Morey, whom was in his GM's office at 7 am in the morning. "Ah, Kevin," Morey looked up as Kevin Martin walked into his office. "You may know why I called you up to my office," said Morey. "I don't know what you're talking about," answered a confused Martin.

"Ha, you're a funny guy," laughed Morey. "I am?" asked Martin, even more confused. "You do know I have to catch a flight to Dallas right?" Martin asked. "Yes, I am very well aware, but it leaves in 3 hours. I called you up to talk to you about the incident at practice yesterday," answered Morey.

"Oh, yes, about that. I'm sorry for the tantrum, it's just Brad is a huge brat, it's easy to realize his parents are failures, the way they raised him," answered Martin. "Maybe they are," said Morey. "Anyways, I know how to settle this feud, Kevin." said Morey in an official-like way.

"Oh, we're gonna sit down together and eat cookies with milk, right?" said an unconvinced Martin. "No, if that's the way you wanna go, that's fine, but that's not a very man-like way to settle things," laughed Morey. "I am sending Brad down to the D-League to play on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers," Morey continued.

"Who suggested this?" asked Martin. "Well, Yao came up with the idea, and I thought it was excellent. Not only does this stop him from being a douchebag to the team, he's still going to a championship team, as the Vipers also won the championship last season. As a 6"9" small forward, he is probably a good fit for that team, and plus, he'll be their problem." explained Morey.

"Best idea you've had all season, man," said a grinning Martin. "Now I don't have to go through the stress of having an asshole on the team, and I can focus on helping out my teammates win another championship."

Martin gave Morey the thumbs up, and left the office. Morey looked out of his office and yelled "Good luck at Dallas!" after Martin. Then Morey began to write down his plans for the future: retire the Big 3's jerseys if all play the most part of their careers as Rockets, find a way to clear roster space for the next draft....

Is that Martin, Yao and Brooks? Just saw your sig. If then, good. And both sides win with the D-League; Martin won't have to see Brad, and Brad can still develop. (Y)

Yeah, the Big 3's on my sig. The D-League isn't on Live 10, but I'm just putting it into the story. Didn't wanna trade Brad away because I don't think anybody wants to read about a team who gets along well.

I imagine Brad's reaction to getting sent down to the D-League isn't going to be all that cheerful. Looking forward to the next instalment. :)

Mavs stampede [13-2]

Postby Axel The Great on Sun Aug 29, 2010 12:32 am

3-game Recap

[11-1] Houston Rockets 106-107 Dallas Mavericks [3-10]

Image
Hot shooting by the Mavs was what caused such a huge upset.

The Rockets are looking like last season, and that's struggling against sub-.500 teams. But the team isn't to blame for the loss, Caron Butler and Jason Kidd were knocking down shot like there was no tomorrow. A huge second quarter for the Mavs put them up by 7 at half time. The Rockets battled back throughout the whole second half, and had a chance to send the game to overtime with a few seconds left in the fourth quarter. Kevin Martin knocked down a jumpshot, but it was questionable about whether or not it was a three. The referees reviewed it and it was a two, so with 1 second left, the Mavs just ran out the clock, and caused one of the biggest upsets of the season.

"I lost my footing; I was too concentrated on knocking down the jumpshot that I didn't see where I was," said a discouraged K-Mart after the game. "This is exactly what I told my team, if a player gets hot in shooting, it is your fault. They should've caused Butler and Kidd to miss their first few shots, which would've made them lose confidence, and that's not what my team did," said Rick Adelman.

Note: Despite the Rockets losing, Yao Ming posted his first career triple-double, see below for stats.

It looks like Yao has hit an upside in his career.

[11-2] Houston Rockets 104-96 New Orleans Hornets [6-10]

Image
Rookie Nathan O'Doherty killed the Rockets on the offensive boards.

Again, an under .500 team had a chance to take down the Rockets. A big 3rd quarter had the Rockets struggling to find answers. Chris Paul doesn't lead the NBA in scoring for nothing, he scored 30 points, going 11/12 from the line. The main reason for the Hornets' great game, was second chance points. That's the reason Emeka Okafor finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds. The Rockets' tough defense was able to hold down the Hornets in the 4th quarter, but could this be a sign of things to come?

If more triple-double performances are to come, Yao is in for the best season of his career.

[12-2] Houston Rockets 113-98 Golden State Warriors [7-7]

Image
Ray Allen provided a huge 19 points off the bench.

The first half of this game was nothing but solid offense for both teams, with Curry's hot shooting from behind the arc, and K-Marts inability to miss. They finished with 33 and 27 respectively. Andris Biedrins was a nuisance on the boards, finishing with 18 of them. As the third quarter was about to end, it looked like the Rockets would have a comfortable lead, but the Warriors narrowed it down to 4. As the Rockets got cold, the Warriors got hot, as they set out to a 5 point lead.

However, the Rockets forced Stephen Curry to take ill-advised three's, and they clawed their way back into the game, and would come out on top. "That was a scary moment there, but we pulled through and found our rhythm. Despite losing at Dallas, we are still a lock for getting far in the playoffs this season," said Chase Budinger, who provided 11 points off the bench.

Hell for Halstead

"So have you carried out the process yet?" asked Daryl Morey. It was a Monday morning, the day after the Rockets defeated the Warriors and Daryl Morey was in the coach's office. "I'm on it Daryl," answered Rick Adelman, whom was on the phone, and motioned for Daryl to be quiet. Rick Adelman was contacting Rio Grande Valley Vipers head coach Chris Finch. "Hello," Daryl heard from Rick's phone. "Um, yes, Coach Finch, it's me Rick Adelman. I'm calling you to inform you that I'm sending a player down to your team," said Rick Adelman.

"Is it Kevin Martin?" joked Chris Finch laughing. "No, it's a rookie," said Rick Adelman, laughing a little as well. "Brad Halstead, he has been causing problems among the team, especially with K-Mart. I don't think he has any trade value, so we can't trade him. The next best option is to send him down to the D-League," said Rick Adelman.

Rick Adelman's door opened, it was Shane Battier. "Hey coach, I..." started Shane. "SHHHH!" said Daryl Morey. "He's in the middle of something. What are you doing here, practice doesn't start in 2 hours," whispered Morey. "I'm here to warm-up for 2 hours," answered Shane and left. When Shane got to the locker room, he found Kevin Martin already there. "Hey, what's up Shane," Kevin greeted him. They did a special Rockets team handshake.

"Just here to warm-up to practice, what are you doing here man?" Shane asked. "Rick and Daryl are carrying out the process of taking out the garbage," said Martin. "Huh?" answered a puzzled Shane. "They're sending Brad Halstead to the D-League," said Kevin Martin, grinning. "Oh, it's about time," answered Shane. "But that still doesn't explain why you're here so early," asked Battier.

"I just wanna hang out here, man," said Kevin Martin. "I've had a very busy year. First we win the NBA championship, next I'm called up to start for Team USA at the FIBA World Championships, and we win there too. Next, is the grueling 82-game season, I just haven't had time to chill, man," said Kevin, looking down at the floor. "Why don't you chill at the hotel?" asked Shane. "Oh yeah, I'm also moving to Houston with my family during the Christmas holidays, too," said Martin. "That way I won't need to pay for a hotel while we're at home."

"That's a smart idea, but...." Shane was interrupted. "Hey, douches, where is the fuckin' coaches office?" yelled Brad Halstead. He was at the door of the locker room. "Coach called me up for something, I'm thinking he'll start me over the scrub that is Kevin," he said excitedly. Kevin Martin laughed in an evil way. "Keep going down the hallway and the last door to your right," said Kevin, with an evil, but happy look in his face. "I don't see what's so funny, but thank you anyway," said Brad.

"Coach, what did you need me for, am I being promoted to starter?" burst in Brad into Rick Adelman's office. "No, you are getting sent down to the D-League," answered Rick Adelman, in a cold tone of voice. "WHAT?!" burst Brad. "YOU'RE TELLING ME I'M GOING DOWN TO A LEAGUE WITH A BUNCH OF SCRUBS!!!" Brad screamed at the top of his lungs. He punched the wall, and rushed out of the office.

Shane Battier heard Kevin Martin leave the locker room, laughing with satisfaction.

Yeah, the Mavs snuck up on me there. (N) Hornets gave me a bit of trouble. Now I'm starting to see the cruelness that is the Superstar difficulty.

You mean the Warriors? Stephen Curry just kept taking threes every time he had the ball, and he was making quite a lot of them. :x

You can say Yao is in his prime!

A loss is just a loss, but even without Dirk, the Mavs can still be a great team.

Triple-double by Yao. (Y) Really nice. Also nice to see K-Mart and Big Z with other jerseys.

That's a tough loss against Dallas, but good to see you bounced back. Shame Yao's first career triple double couldn't have come on a happier note though.

I'm interested to see whether Brad's attitude improves. I can't imagine someone like that lasting past training camp unless they were immensely talented and even then, it'd be a stretch. You need a Charles Oakley-type player to keep him in line. ;)

So far as we know, Brad hasn't quite pulled a Lance Stephenson yet. That might be just a bit too dark and depressing for a Dynasty story though.
