Hell for Halstead
"So have you carried out the process yet?" asked Daryl Morey. It was a Monday morning, the day after the Rockets defeated the Warriors and Daryl Morey was in the coach's office. "I'm on it Daryl," answered Rick Adelman, whom was on the phone, and motioned for Daryl to be quiet. Rick Adelman was contacting Rio Grande Valley Vipers head coach Chris Finch. "Hello," Daryl heard from Rick's phone. "Um, yes, Coach Finch, it's me Rick Adelman. I'm calling you to inform you that I'm sending a player down to your team," said Rick Adelman.
"Is it Kevin Martin?" joked Chris Finch laughing. "No, it's a rookie," said Rick Adelman, laughing a little as well. "Brad Halstead, he has been causing problems among the team, especially with K-Mart. I don't think he has any trade value, so we can't trade him. The next best option is to send him down to the D-League," said Rick Adelman.
Rick Adelman's door opened, it was Shane Battier. "Hey coach, I..." started Shane. "SHHHH!" said Daryl Morey. "He's in the middle of something. What are you doing here, practice doesn't start in 2 hours," whispered Morey. "I'm here to warm-up for 2 hours," answered Shane and left. When Shane got to the locker room, he found Kevin Martin already there. "Hey, what's up Shane," Kevin greeted him. They did a special Rockets team handshake.
"Just here to warm-up to practice, what are you doing here man?" Shane asked. "Rick and Daryl are carrying out the process of taking out the garbage," said Martin. "Huh?" answered a puzzled Shane. "They're sending Brad Halstead to the D-League," said Kevin Martin, grinning. "Oh, it's about time," answered Shane. "But that still doesn't explain why you're here so early," asked Battier.
"I just wanna hang out here, man," said Kevin Martin. "I've had a very busy year. First we win the NBA championship, next I'm called up to start for Team USA at the FIBA World Championships, and we win there too. Next, is the grueling 82-game season, I just haven't had time to chill, man," said Kevin, looking down at the floor. "Why don't you chill at the hotel?" asked Shane. "Oh yeah, I'm also moving to Houston with my family during the Christmas holidays, too," said Martin. "That way I won't need to pay for a hotel while we're at home."
"That's a smart idea, but...." Shane was interrupted. "Hey, douches, where is the fuckin' coaches office?" yelled Brad Halstead. He was at the door of the locker room. "Coach called me up for something, I'm thinking he'll start me over the scrub that is Kevin," he said excitedly. Kevin Martin laughed in an evil way. "Keep going down the hallway and the last door to your right," said Kevin, with an evil, but happy look in his face. "I don't see what's so funny, but thank you anyway," said Brad.
"Coach, what did you need me for, am I being promoted to starter?" burst in Brad into Rick Adelman's office. "No, you are getting sent down to the D-League," answered Rick Adelman, in a cold tone of voice. "WHAT?!" burst Brad. "YOU'RE TELLING ME I'M GOING DOWN TO A LEAGUE WITH A BUNCH OF SCRUBS!!!" Brad screamed at the top of his lungs. He punched the wall, and rushed out of the office.
Shane Battier heard Kevin Martin leave the locker room, laughing with satisfaction.
