39-38 :: Touch The Sky | Raptors @ Celtics

Raptors halt Celtics' 9-game win streak, lose Irving
Toronto was perfectly in control of the game, holding a 15 point lead going into the fourth. The Raptors were able to hold on to the lead to take the victory, but not before Kyrie Irving injured his shoulder with 3:52 to play. The official word from the medical staff was a separated shoulder, with Irving likely to miss the first round of the playoffs. Nevertheless, the Raptors cruised to the win, bittersweet may be but almost the most satisfying, as it was against their longtime division rival. DeMar DeRozan and Wes Johnson led all scorers with 25 each.

Record: 39-38, T-5th in the East
Up Next: Air Canada Centre, Indiana Pacers

East looks very weak. Looks like you can get out of first round. ;) DeRozan dominates. Your team looks strong.

Mehmet Okur signs with Raptors
6 April, 2013

TORONTO -- Mehmet Okur cleared waivers on Thursday and signed with the Raptors, who expect him to be a veteran presence this season. Okur, who turns 33 on Saturday, fills a void for the Raptors as a stretch big. The Turkish player last played for the Utah Jazz in the 2011-2012 season, but was not pursued when the season ended. Okur holds career averages of 13.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

FINAL 5 GAMES

Image
Already armed with a postseason spot, the Raptors decided to tank/simulate the final games of the season. Here is how they did.

April 6, 2013 • Pacers 97, Raptors 90
HI POINTS: DeRozan 25 | REBOUNDS: Davis 8 | ASSISTS: Barbosa 6

In their first game since losing Kyrie Irving to a shoulder injury, the Raptors didn't do too well. Without their star playmaker, the Raptors struggled to create opportunities and heavily relied on drive and kick passes from Barbosa and isolation plays. DeRozan struggled to find his shot (only 9-22 from the field, 0-5 from the 3-point line) while Wesley Johnson was 5-13. Newcomer Mehmet Okur gave the Raptors a strong debut with 20 points, making 8 of his 10 shots and all four attempts from beyond the arc. Okur also fueled a 15-6 run late in the fourth quarter to trim the deficit to 89-86, but the Pacers held on for the win by making some tough shots, including an acrobatic layup from Darren Collison on fastbreak and a tightly contested jumper by Danny Granger who scored a game high 29.

April 8, 2013 • Raptors 105, Knicks 91
HI POINTS: Chandler 17 | REBOUNDS: Thompson 10 | ASSISTS: W. Johnson 8

The Raptors picked up a convincing 105-91 win in their late-season trip to the Madison Square Garden. Wilson Chandler led the way with 17 points and 3 blocks, while Wes Johnson provided some much needed playmaking as he dished out a team high 8 assists.

April 10, 2013 • 76ers 97, Raptors 88
HI POINTS: Chandler 23 | REBOUNDS: Davis 10 | ASSISTS: W. Johnson 4

With a playoff spot already in hand, the Philadelphia 76ers continued to keep their momentum heading into the postseason. The Gerald Wallace-led Sixers edged the Raptors in north of the border with the help of a 17 point, 12 rebound performance from the defensive specialist. Jrue Holiday picked up a double double as well, scoring 12 points while dishing out 12 assists.

April 11, 2013 • Raptors 101, Cavaliers 106
HI POINTS: Chandler 23 | REBOUNDS: Chandler 8 | ASSISTS: W. Johnson 6

Cavaliers rookie Jeffrey Buford exploded for 43 points to help his team avenge a late March loss with a 106-101 victory over visiting Raptors.

April 13, 2013 • Heat 112, Raptors 114
HI POINTS: Chandler 34 | REBOUNDS: Chandler 8 | ASSISTS: DeRozan 6

The Toronto Raptors ended their season on a positive note, squeezing out a tight 114-112 win over the powerhouse Miami Heat while missing starting point guard Kyrie Irving. Sixth man Wilson Chandler led Toronto with 34 points while playing a game high 45 minutes. The six-year pro out of DePaul helped the Raptors come from behind a 15 point deficit in the half, as coach Steve Nash opted to rest starters Wesley Johnson and DeMar DeRozan. Toronto used a 7-0 burst with two minutes to play to take the lead. Just before the game, the Raptors announced the signing of veteran shooter Peja Stojakovic. The Raptors will face the top seeded 56-26 Bulls in the first round of the playoffs.
