Wall's form could end Wizards' six-year All-Star drought
John Wall has always struggled to cope with the burden of being a number one pick, but this season he is finally playing to his potential and is dominating games.
His play, coupled with that of recent draftees Bradley Beal and Nerlens Noel, has propelled the Wizards to heights that were unimaginable in the previous decade.
This young group of Wizards players have put together some great stretches of basketball this season and now find themselves behind only Philadelphia and Miami.
It has been Wall though that has provided the spark for their success. He is leading the league in assists at such a rate which hasn't been seen in over two decades.
Many experts have tipped him to be selected for the eastern squad in this year's all-star game; maybe as a starter. It's hard to argue given the season that he is having.
In the thirty-three games Wall has played so far this season, there has only been one occasion when he didn't manage at least eleven assists. It's an amazing statistic.
He has reached the twenty assist mark seven times this season, including an NBA-record-breaking thirty-one against the Bulls at the United Center in early January.
Impressively he has also managed twenty-three double-doubles as well. He not only runs the offense for his team, but he also scores crucial baskets when needed.
Wall's numbers have changed a fair bit since last season. He is only scoring 14 points per game, down from 20. But his assists have doubled from 8 to 16 per game.
Washington haven't had a representative in the all-star game since 2008 when Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler were selected as reserves for the eastern squad.
Certainly their fans will be hoping that the baron spell ends this season with at least one player representing them. The voting is ongoing and time only will tell.
