Lamrock wrote:Started my first sim association yesterday with some rosters I made. I picked Phoenix because I wanted a rebuilding situation and that's what I got. After a 3-12 start, I started making deals and by the halfway point, I traded Nash and Gortat for Chris Bosh. We went on to finish the season with a dismal 25-57 record, as Bosh tore his MCL after just a dozen games with us. Nash retired with a ring though.
The plan was to rebuild around Bosh, but after his injury, we were in need of a shakeup. After drafting a pair of point guards (I seize about 3 first rounders per draft), I decided Brooks was expendable, so I sign-and-traded him with Jared Dudley and one of my rookies for Roy, Oden, Batum and their next first rounder in an epic blockbuster. I then used my cap space from Carter's expiring to re-sign Carter, sign Ilyasova and also extend Nic Batum for the MLE. With an injured Bosh (who played like the last 30 games), we finished season #2 28-54, with Ty Lawson leading the Nuggets to their first title.
I had four first round picks in the draft, which I consolidated into picks 4-6. I drafted another pair of point guards (I signed Hinrich to start, as I traded one of my rookies, and the other is a bust) and diamond in the rough SG Gerald Nixon. In the second consecutive bad draft, no rookies had any potential or outstanding ratings. I had higher hopes for season three, as Hinrich - Roy - Batum - Bosh - Oden was my dream Blazers starting five two years ago. We ended up finishing 32-50. Ilyasova averaged 15/8 off the bench to win most improved and sixth man though. Jimmer, Z-Bo and finals MVP Brook Lopez led the Nets to the NBA title, dethroning the Nuggets in 7 games.
Bosh opted out of his last year, and I took the risk of letting him walk. I also let Roy walk. With their contracts off the books, I had a lot of cap. I also had more picks, and ended up trading four rookies and sophomores for Jerryd Bayless to be my starting two. In an homage to the Suns' rebuild in the early-to-mid '00s, I signed now all-star PG Brandon Jennings as the final piece. The remaining cap space was used on Andrea Bargnani (needed a replacement for Bosh), Rashard Lewis, and a bunch of other veterans and scrub/role players to shore up the roster. Also, Gentry retired so Scott Skiles returns as Suns coach.
Bayless was unsatisfied with his 33 MPG and I wasn't going to raise his role to star (his overall shot up 6 points when switched to SG) so he was packaged with Toney Douglas and Ilyasova for Millsap, Ellington, and their first rounder. Despite this, our chemistry has shot up thanks to an incredibly successful season. With our new look team, we win 61 games, good for the best record in the league. Jennings and Oden make ASG and all-NBA third team.
