Washington Wizards (8-3) at Los Angeles Lakers (4-3) at 7:30pm est - Away Team Box Score - Home Team Box Score

THE STORYLINE: The Los Angeles Lakers had one of it's worst starts to a new season in it's history under Phil Jackson, the Lakers desperately needed a win against the defending champions, in a big prime-time game that pitted the previous and current champions, the Lakers prevailed and recorded the lopsided blow-out win that showed the world they still have the "it" factor.

WHAT WE SAW:

Wizards accuracy: Allen Iverson didn't come up big for the Wizards tonight, he wasn't the only one though. Iverson started with converting 3 of his 4 field goals, he recorded just 8 points all night and finished up 3 of 17, that's not great numbers missing 13 straight shots. John Wall didn't have a spectacular night, Wall recorded 17 points (8 of 18), recorded 12 assists and did record 5 steals, if he had been more active around the basket they would of had a better shot of winning.

2 big players, in 1 big game: Ron Artest and Kobe Bryant carried the Lakers to the win tonight. It's evident that their work allowed the Lakers to win, if they had not played, they would of not won. Artest was a pain for the Wizards defense recording 33 points and went 14 of 21 on field goals, Kobe Bryant recorded 25 field goals and went 2 of 7 on three pointers, the Wizards defense just couldn't matchup to the Lakers offense, although they did record 9 steals between Bynum and Blake.

Washington Wizards (8-4) at Golden State Warriors (3-3) at 7:30pm est - Away Team Box Score - Home Team Box Score

THE STORYLINE: In their second road game of their Californian tour, the Wizards showed the Golden State Warriors how champions play, and in particular John Wall showed the NBA why he should be the most popular all-star voted for next month's game. Wall recorded a triple double and the Wizards shaked off the Warriors to improve to 9-4.

WHAT WE SAW:

Wall of A.I.: This was easily John Wall's best performence of his career. Wall recorded 13 of 22 field goals (28 points), had the most minutes on the field, recorded 4 rebounds, recorded 22 assists and had 10 steals. I've never seen a point guard so dominating for a long time, and Allen Iverson had a good game as well recorded 18 points, 6 assists and hitting 7 of 14 field goals (4 of 7 on three pointers)

Warriors turnovers: The Warriors commited far too many turnovers, Ellis turned the ball over 7 times whilst rookie Alec Burks turned the ball over 4 times, it's far too many times and was the main reason why the Warriros lost, had they not turned the ball over so many times, they may of won the game.

Washington Wizards (9-4) at Sacramento Kings (3-3) at 7:00pm est - Away Team Box Score - Home Team Box Score

THE STORYLINE: Gilbert Arenas faced off against his former team and the Wizards blew a 16 point lead, that turned into a blowout. Arenas recorded a season high of 57 to send the Wizards to 9-5 and 5-5 in their last 10 games.

WHAT WE SAW:

Payback: Arenas was traded early last season, which meant he missed out gaining a ring with the Wizards, Arenas shoved some of that back in the Wizards face by going 18 of 30 on field goals, recording 57 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals. He looked anything but the fallen superstar Wizards fans had proclaimed him to be the last offseason.

Turnovers: Wall may of had a good game (19 points, 15 assists), he couldn't get going as he conceded 7 turnovers, a season and career high, his passes were off all night and he just couldn't make the game changing play, Arenas also conceded 7 turnovers, but made the plays when mattered.

Washington Wizards (10-5) at Boston Celtics (6-5) at 3:00pm est - Away Team Box Score - Home Team Box Score

THE STORYLINE: In what was another top matchup from the NBA, the defending champion Washington Wizards were shown who was the boss as the Boston Celtics cruised to a big-time win on New Year's Eve infront of many fans that thought this could be one of those closely contested matchups... Guess not.

WHAT WE SAW:

More accurate: The Celtics hit just 39.8% of their field goals in their previous game loss to the Grizzlies, this time around they shot a lot better, recording a 60% field goal percentage. The Celtics hit 68% of their three pointers as well opposed to the Washington Wizards 29%.

Records and more Records: John Wall recorded 30 assists, which put him as the first Wizard to do so, and also tied him for the most in NBA history, his team came up short but Rajon Rondo also broke a record, it's not a good one though as Rondo turned the ball over a team record high 14 times.

Comeback Kings: The Wizards led 37-26 after the first quarter but couldn't hold as they lost their third in five. The Wizards still hold the fifth seed in their conference but are ranked #3 in their division.

In a not so surprising move, the NBA announced for the second consecutive month that John Wall has been named the player of the month.

He beat out players such as Lebron James, Chris Bosh, Kevin Durant and Dwayne Wade to the spot.

Wall averages almost 20 points and 15 assists per game, and leads the league in steals and assists. Wall also won the player of the week for the second time, snapping Lebron James' three consecutive player of the week streaks. Brandon Roy was named the West player of the month, also the second straight time this season.

Portland Trail Blazers (5-5) at Washington Wizards (10-6) at 7:00pm est - Away Team Box Score - Home Team Box Score

THE STORYLINE: The Washington Wizards were hoping to rebound from a blowout against the Boston Celtics, the next game the Wizards were 3-0 when blownout but not after the Portland Trail Blazers came back from a 1st quarter deficit to land 136 points on the Washington Wizards defense which is ranked near to last.

WHAT WE SAW:

Fouled Out: The Wizards commited 23 fouls to Portland's 7. John Wall was fouled out late in the game, Wall left with 14 assists and 6 points, he kept missing three pointers and mid range jumpshots, his game has been off lately but still is ranked #2 in MVP Race behind Yao Ming (remember the Wizards have played the most games)

Paint Points: The Wizards defense didn't show up, especially in the fourth quarter, the Trail Blazers managed to score 96 points in the paint, the Wizards managed just 62. That's a big gap and was the deciding factor as to who won the game.

Turnovers don't matter: Portland conceded 28 turnovers to Washington's 10, that's at least 36 points difference available if they managed to score when they recorded the turnover, they were missing shots all night, and went 56 of 116 on field goal shooting.

Calderon: Jose Calderon played a great game, Calderon went 13 of 19 on field goals en route to recording 39 points and also recorded 8 assits, he turned the ball over 10 times in the loss.

Washington Wizards (12-7) at Memphis Grizzlies (10-4) at 4:00pm est - Away Team Box Score - Home Team Box Score

THE STORYLINE: The Washington Wizards are 2-5 on the road this season since game 5 and were looking to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies who have looked pretty good this season. The Grizzlies didn't blink and controlled the game for most of the sixty minutes played.

WHAT WE SAW:

Mayo'd: O.J. Mayo really surprised the Wizards in this game, Mayo hit 9 of 20 field goals for a team high 27 points, he also recorded 6 rebounds.

Turnover problem: Even though on the winning team, Mike Conley turned the ball over 14 times, he did make up for it with 26 points and 13 assists but whoever has faced the Wizards this season has turned the ball over a lot of the time.

Washington Wizards (12-8) at Dallas Mavericks (6-7) at 7:30pm est - Away Team Box Score - Home Team Box Score

Wizards on a dip: The Washington Wizards arn't playing very good basketball at the moment, they've lost two straight and are going into the final part of the season struggling to keep their playoff hopes alive, they will find it hard since the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat are also playing well. They need to refind their swagger against the Charlotte Bobcats.

Wall and Iverson: Wall hasn't shot well in the past few games, Wall hit 10 of 35 field goals for 23 points this week, he went 3 of 11 on three pointers, he does however continue to play at a high level recording 16 assists and 6 steals. Allen Iverson on the otherhand, has been AWOL from playing his best, he didn't even record 6 points against the Dallas Mavericks.
