Show fall to defending champion LakersLas Vegas 94 - Los Angeles 106There was a buzz in Silver State Arena as the seats filled in slowly for the first game of the "new" Las Vegas Show. Would the team be able to sustain it's winning ways it enjoyed under Jerry Sloan? Would they be as popular as they were in Utah? Could Deron Williams make the jump from strong point guard to elite? The team is full of mystery.
Well, the first night few answers if any were given as the defending Lakers came in to Vegas and took down the show in their opening game. The turning point appeared to be in the 2nd half where the Lakers started attacking the basket...and not missing shooting 62% as a team and pulling away in the fourth quarter by double digits. When Deron Williams fouled out with 2 minutes left in the game and the Lakers up 9, the home crowd began to shuffle out. However, these people missed the appearance of Dikembe Mutombo and his steal/coast to coast dunk finish. That was the sole highlight of the second half for the Show.
Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who was the player of the game, said after the game "Well, we knew we were better than them and how we played in the first half, when we come out for the second we wanted go at them with everything we had. So we did it on both ends, and they couldn't keep up." The Lakers also had stellar Defensive numbers amounting 12 blocks and 9 turnovers.
Show Coach Raoul Duke wearing his trademark aviators was a little down but his usual insane self "Well, we're just gonna have to work to get up to speed. Obviously the new style of coaching and the move are a big impact on a team and it may take a few games for us to figure it out. Don't worry, we're not giving up just yet. I may need to play with the rotations some to keep some guys fresh down the stretch. Don't worry, you guys aint seen nothin yet. Buy the ticket, take the ride."
