I need a true center; PJ Brown, a power forward, is playing for me as a center, and Lee Nailon, more a small forward, is playing for me as a PF. The only true center I got is Magloire and he's injured

NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 3 (Ticker) -- The Detroit Pistons used a team effort to halt the New Orleans Hornets' momentum.

Chauncey Billups scored 27 points, Richard Hamilton 23 and Rasheed Wallace 22, as the current champions posted a 122-99 victory over the Hornets.

Baron Davis scored 31 points, Rodney Rogers added 21 points off-the-bench, and PJ Brown 14. Chris Andersen, who scored 11 points against Washington, was held to just two.

For the Pistons, Antonio McDyess, Derrick Coleman and Elden Campbell scored 10, 6 and 6 points, respectively. Argentinian native Carlos Delfino didn't score in eight minutes.

"I think defense wins games," Larry Brown said. "There's a lot of things that we are doing very well; we're not getting it all together yet, our guys have stayed with it and played hard."

"Right now, after this game, I think we have a little confidence problem, and we need to get that up," Byron Scott said. "We have to make shots, free throws."

Key Players at the Half: Rasheed Wallace (17 points, 4 rebounds) / Baron Davis (16 points, 6 assists).

Player Of The Game: Chauncey Billups (27 points, 8 assists).

Chris Wilcox is a Hornet

Postby kibaxx7 on Sun Jan 09, 2005 8:19 am

New Orleans trades David West and Dan Dickau to LA Clippers
Hornets acquire Chris Wilcox

New Orleans - The Hornets have acquired center Chris Wilcox from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for forward David West and guard Dan Dickau.

"This move helps our team by letting other players see more playing time," Hornets General Manager Allan Bristow said.

Image
Wilcox played 1 game with the Clippers this season: 9 points, 10 rebounds
and 3 assists

Wilcox, who was selected in the first round (8th overall) of the 2002 NBA Draft by the Clippers, has appeared in 65 games last season, averaging 8.6 points and 4.7 rebounds in 20.6 minutes. In his career, he's averaging 7.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in 17.9 minutes.

“We see bright futures for both of them and feel very comfortable with them receiving more minutes and continuing to develop.” -- Allan Bristow

Image
West, sophomore, didn't play this season: he has got a little injury.

West, selected in the first round (18th overall) of the 2003 NBA Draft by the Hornets, appeared in 71 games, and averaged 3.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in 13.1 minutes. He's averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 13.9 minutes in his career.

“I’ve been very impressed with Chris (Wilcox) and he have earned this opportunity,” said Hornets Head Coach Byron Scott. “Dan is a great player, but this move will benefit the Hornets.”

Image
With this trade, Dickau has been traded five times in three years.

Dickau was selected by the Sacramento Kings in the first round (28th overall) of the 2002 NBA Draft. In draft day, the Atlanta Hawks acquired him for a future first round pick. He played in Atlanta, Portland, Dallas and New Orleans.

“This trade is a great example of how we will continue to make every effort to improve our team,” said Hornets Majority Owner George Shinn. “I’m confident that Allan and his staff are doing everything possible to make our organization better both at present and in the future.”

JR Smith Rookie Diary

JR Smith Rookie Diary: First Installment

New Orleans Hornets first round pick J.R. Smith will be sitting down with Hornets.com’s Dennis Rogers this season to give the fans an inside look at his rookie year. The high school phenom known for his deadly outside shooting and 44-inch vertical leap will provide many highlight reel plays for the Hornets this season as they enter the Western Conference.

Image

This is my first diary of what should be an exciting rookie season. I will try and give you guys an inside look on what goes on in my life on and off the court. I can’t tell you how happy I was when the Hornets took me 18th in the draft. I have been working on my game all summer and can’t wait to play in my first NBA game.

I played in the Southern California Summer Pro League with Tim (Pickett), Alex (Garcia) and others. It was a lot of fun to play with different guys and see what they are able to do. I played against good competition in Devin (Harris) and Josh (Howard) of the Mavericks. Olden Polynice, our assistant coach, taught me a lot and was great to be around. It was a lot different than high school.

I try and stay grounded, that is why I have my family here. I had a great performance putting up 35 against the Mavs and Josh Howard, but I know it is just summer league and the NBA is a lot tougher. I just take it day by day and work hard.

I also played at Rucker Park this summer on the Los Angeles team. I am from Jersey, but BD (Baron Davis) and Game asked me to play, plus New York didn’t ask me, so I gave it a go. I had a good time playing with Baron and Gilbert (Arenas), we played against some great competition. We had a great run, but lost to Terror Squad in the finals by one on their home court. They were leading most of the game, but we made a great comeback to take the lead in the fourth. We were down one at the end 121-120 and had a chance, but fell short. My nickname was “The Prodigy”.

This summer I have been going back and forth from Jersey to L.A. to see my agent and work out in Santa Monica. Other than that, I have been spending time with my family, especially my middle brother and sister who are staying back in Jersey because of school. My Dad, little brother and my friend, Randy are going to live with me down here in New Orleans, while my Mom goes back and forth.

I got to New Orleans a couple weeks ago. I am trying to get used to this weather, it has either been burning up or raining. I am excited about the season starting and making New Orleans my home.

I signed with Adidas not too long ago. It was a hard process because it took so long to get a shoe deal. A lot of guys who got drafted had already signed, so the wait was long and tiring. I am glad I signed with Adidas and they have hooked me up.

Training Camp has been all right so far; I have been working hard and will continue to work hard. I knew going in that it would be tough, so I worked really hard this summer to prepare myself.

My car is on the way, so I am excited about getting that. I am getting a Chrysler 300, so I will have my own ride next time I talk to you.
