Team Event - catching up with Nick Young


We caught up with Nick Young who volunteered to stay with Assist GM KidJustin, the Clipper Spirit Dance team, and the Clipper Fan Patrol at a team event the Clippers held today for their fans.

The entire team flew back to Los Angeles after their victory in Salt Lake against the Jazz and are flying to New Orleans tonight to face off against the Hornets tomorrow. Young, still serving his league suspension, stayed at the event since he would not be able to play in the game anyways.

Media: How has it been dealing with the suspension?
Young:

Tough, really tough. I see my team everyday, at events like this, in practice, even when we are hanging out. But I can't be with them on the floor. I wanted to move to another team so I could get more playing time and help them win, I can't do that being stuck in street clothes.

Media: So what kind things can you do while suspended?
Young:

At least they let me travel with the team and join events and practices. It really gives me the opportunity to bond with my new teammates as well as give back to my hometown, Los Angeles.

Media: How does it feel to be back home by the way?
Young:

Great! I really missed all of my friends, family, even the weather! Nothing against Washington, it is a great city, but this is my hometown. I can't wait to show them my skills on the hardwood once again.

Media: So when you do get back on the floor, what will you bring to this team...they are already 7-0 without you?
Young:

Heart and intensity and the hunger to win. I was brought in knowing I would be one of the first options off the bench and provide them with high scoring for the second unit. But the way Ryan is struggling right now, if they fell the Al still needs time, I can easily step in and start in the time being.

Media: Well it was nice catching up with you, I hope the league sorts this out soon enough?
Young:

Yea...I hope so too. Thanks.

George7, Sofo only had 1 bucket....

and 1 rebound and 1 block and 1 assist and 1 steal....not really a monster game...but i guess cuz Griffin overshadowed everyone

i hope to give Sofo more quality playing time soon

The Clippers finally got off to a good start in this game, starting with a 7-2 lead. And this was no walk in the park, the New Orleans Hornets have been one of the NBA's early surprising holding down the 3rd best record in the western conference. The Clippers did it tonight with strong team defense. The Clippers defense lead by Baron Davis held Chris Paul to only 6 points and 1 assists in the first quarter - the entire team only scored 16 in that quarter.

The Hornets finally made it interesting as David West willed his team back from the dead and pulled within 4 after being down by as many as 17 points. But the Clippers two stand outs kept the team comfortable ahead at the half behind 8 boards by Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon's 16 points from 4 3-pointers to lead all scorers.

After the break the Hornets gave it one last push to get as close as 4 again behind their play from the bench from guys like Peja Stojakovic draining 3's. But again the Clippers defense stopped any and all attacks and never trailed this game. Paul tried to get a 3 pointer off before time could expire in the 3rd, but once again Clippers defense stopped him, this time a block by rookie Eric Bledsoe.

On offense, the Hornets threw a zone at the Clippers, but Gordon picked it apart easily hitting 6 3 pointers in the game, only 2 short of the Clippers franchise record of most 3 pointers in a single game.

All Hornets come backs came to an abrupt end when DeAndre Jordan drew an offensive foul on Paul, which ended up being his 6th foul of the game.


Once Paul went to he bench around the 5 minute park of the fourth, the Clippers coasted the rest of the way without any problems on to the franchises best start to a season. This is also their third game on this roadtrip, the final will be tomorrow night against the San Antonio Spurs, who they already defeated earlier this month.

Willie Warren really impressed the coaching staff in the last game and got to go in late in the 1st quarter. What did he do? He grabbed a couple boards and even recorded a block. He finished the game with 5 points.

the move wont happen until after my next home game, which is against the pistons (i play the spurs away first)
