Great season by the Knicks. Martin still seems to be on fire. 29 ppg is sick. Playoff picture in the East is looking like some successfull franchises of the late 90ies are back to old strenght (Heat, Knicks, Pacers)

Yeah, but it's surprising how teams like the Pistons are in second place despite being rated pretty low (low 70's) as a team. Rodney Stuckey's been big for them though (see: first East player of the week).

It is unconfirmed. I shall look into the situation.

I have finished playing Week 6, the last two games. That should hopefully be posted no later than Monday.

Cold Night in San Antonio [14-5]

Postby Axel The Great on Sat Dec 03, 2011 3:20 pm

Part II

[13-4] Houston Rockets 104-97 Los Angeles Clippers [9-9]

Image Image
T-Will to DeAndre Jordan: "Block this!!!" | Patterson receives a beautiful alley oop pass. Beatiful can also describe his play off the bench.
Image Image
Eric Gordon outdid Kevin Martin this game. | The Rockets have always made Chris Kaman look like Pau Gasol.

The main guys, Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, and Kyle Lowry had worse than ordinary shooting nights this game, but another main guy, Yao Ming and supporting role players Patrick Patterson and Terrence Williams picked up the slack. Yao, after a bit of a struggle against the West's best, picked up his game again scoring 18 points and grabbing nine boards, shooting 7/11 from the field. Patterson grabbed six boards and shot 4/5 from the field en route to 10 points off the bench. Williams also chipped in 10 and grabbed six, shooting 5/7.

After the Clippers edged out the Rockets to a two point lead in the first, Houston rampaged to outscore LA 29-17 in the second, putting them in a 10-point hole at halftime. The third quarter didn't make matters any better for the Clippers, as both teams were evenly matched then as Houston's lead increased by a point heading into the fourth.

Did I mention Eric Gordon had a great game? Did I mention had a game high 31 points, and shot 3/8 from downtown. He helped the Clippers narrow down the Rockets' deficit to as low as five midway into the fourth. To add to that, the Clippers outrebounded the Rockets 45-38 despite shooting 44% from the field compared to 48% from the Rockets. Houston would pick up steam again and never look back as they bounce back from a loss to the reigning champions.

"This was somewhat of an odd win. It felt like they were the better team the entire second half. That huge burst of offense and defense in the second quarter proved the difference maker, I guess," were Kevin Martin's words on this game. I'm sure he can agree with me that the win is what matters most here, regardless of which team was better.

Key Performers:
Rockets:
Kevin Martin - 27 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, 1 steal, 10/24 FG, 5/5 FT
Yao Ming - 18 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 block, 7/11 FG, 4/4 FT
Kyle Lowry - 12 points, 10 assists, 1 rebound, 2/8 FG, 7/8 FT
Patrick Patterson - 10 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, 4/5 FG
Luis Scola - 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 5/13 FG
Terrence Williams - 10 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 5/7 FG
Aaron Brooks - 9 points, 4 assists, 1 rebound, 3/6 FG

Clippers:
Eric Gordon - 31 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 12/24 FG, 3/8 3P, 4/4 FT
Chris Kaman - 18 points, 12 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 9/15 FG
JR Smith - 11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 4/10 FG, 3/5 3P
Blake Griffin - 10 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 4/8 FG
Mo Williams - 10 points, 12 assists, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, 5/16 FG, 0/7 3P
Al-Farouq Aminu - 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 4/7 FG

[14-4] Houston Rockets 90-91 San Antonio Spurs [8-11]

Image Image
K-Mart showing off his post moves, abuses TJ Ford down low. | Yao Ming with the putback dunk over Tim Duncan.
Image Image
Duncan was not to be made a fool out of, however, as he led his Spurs to the win. | Parker, in Lamrock's book, was this game's shitass.

Things started fast for both teams in the first quarter, as they both seemingly scored at will. From then on, it looked like December's weather began to take effect. Houston shot a dismal 39% for the game, one of their lowest field goal percentages all season. San Antonio shot slightly better at 41%, but were bricks at the free throw line with 66%. The big difference in the game was San Antonio's supporting players; their bench scored 37 points.

"This game would have been much easier to win had it not been for Tony's (Parker) struggles, and our free throw percentage" says Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. And too right he was as Tony Parker scored just five points on 2/10 shooting, had eight assists but eight turnovers.

"This game was infested with turnovers. It was hard for us point guards because our passes always had a sea of hands to go through," Kyle Lowry said. He himself committed five turnovers this game as well.

The difference was in the fourth quarter, as Houston's struggles to hold on to the ball continued. They relinquished their lead, and San Antonio was finally able to overpower them the rest of the way to take it by a point. The Spurs were led by Tim Duncan's double-double of 24 points and 16 boards for the win.

"I tell ya, it's difficult to keep losing by just a point all the time. The past couple of games we've lost were winnable, there's just something wrong we've been doing with our fourth quarters," Shane Battier said. Maybe it's the fact that the Rockets are taking it easy as they have enough wins to continue to be tops in the conference. They must not get too comfortable with the pace they're going; the best teams are known to make runs when the finish line is close, and if the Rockets want to stay upstairs, they will need to speed up themselves.

Key Performers:
Rockets:
Kevin Martin - 32 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 11/24 FG, 10/10 FT
Aaron Brooks - 14 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, 5/10 FG, 2/6 3P
Yao Ming - 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, 6/10 FG
Kyle Lowry - 11 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, 5 TO, 4/10 FG
Luis Scola - 10 points, 18 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks, 5/11 FG

Spurs:
Tim Duncan - 24 points, 16 rebounds, 10/21 FG, 4/4 FT
Manu Ginobili - 19 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 8/19 FG
Gary Neal - 11 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 3/7 FG, 3/4 3P
George Hill - 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 4/10 FG
DeJuan Blair - 8 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 4/5 FG
Tony Parker - 5 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 8 TO, 2/10 FG

I really didn't know he was playing for them up until that game. :? By huge win, are you referring to the Spurs?
hova- wrote:Indepth recap and close loss to the Spurs. Still 14-5 is great.

We've had quite a few of those close losses recently. The most we've lost by was 7 against the Celtics, so that's a good sign that teams can't blow us out. (Y)

Next recap is going to consist of three games, but I've only played one of the three. Hoping to get that posted sometime next week. I should also really get started on that NLSC Tournament.

And it has been another very long pause on this. Let me admit, that I have gotten pretty lazy. There you go. That's why I haven't updated this, but sooner or later, something will come up to motivate me to keep playing 2K11, and it will most likely be the start of the NBA season. For now though, I think I'll start the NLSC Tournament to break the monotony. :)

NLSC Tournament: First Round

Postby Axel The Great on Tue Dec 20, 2011 2:07 pm

NLSC Tournament First Round Results

Amadeus Pelayo vs. Ray Cer
Score: 21-23
Length: 18 minutes
Image Image

After a slow start for both sides, the duo of Ray Cer and Danny Granger gained the upper hand, thanks to some penetration and easy jumpshots by Cer. "They don't call me Speed Racer for nothing," Cer said after the game. He led the game with 14 points, taking advantage of the speed mismatch he had on Amadeus Pelayo. Pelayo and his teammate, Luis Scola would get things going as well, and after a three from the former, everything was tied up at 14 and made it anyone's game. After trading bucket after bucket, both teams reached the 20-point mark, and after Scola scored a layup, one more point was needed for the win. However, Cer and Granger turned the tables and scored three straight buckets to win it 23-21.

Note: The reason the score is higher than 21 is because rules state that a team must win by two or more points after reaching the 21-point mark for the game to end.

Stats:
Ray Cer - 14 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 14/23 FG
Danny Granger - 9 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 9/20 FG
Amadeus Pelayo - 8 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal, 7/17 FG, 1/2 3P
Luis Scola - 13 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal, 13/20 FG

Karl Cristobal vs. Badger Johnson
Score: 21-16
Length: 13 minutes
Image Image

John Wall got the ball rolling in this one by setting up Badger Johnson for some easy baskets early on. They began the game on a rampage going on a 12-2 run. It seemed as if Karl Cristobal and Kevin Love were taken right out of it. However, Cristobal began to knock down mid-range jumpshot after mid-range jumpshot, and Love began to do work on the low post. Working diligently, they got right back in it to tie it at 16 apiece, and from then on they cruised to victory 21-16. Johnson had trouble trying to contain the height mismatch between him and Love, and though Wall did well in defending Cristobal, the winning duo just had an excellent offensive night.

Stats:
Karl Cristobal - 11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 11/18 FG
Kevin Love - 10 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 10/13 FG
Badger Johnson - 8 points, 4 rebounds, 8/13 FG
John Wall - 8 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, 8/13 FG

Martti Must vs. Shado Green
Score: 21-13
Length: 12 minutes
Image Image

The duo regarded as the most inept offensively actually had a good showing on that end this game, probably due to the fact that they weren't dealing with strong defensive pressure. Shado Green started his game off by getting shots close to the basket, and set up Joel Anthony for a strong dunk to score the first three points of the game. Kevin Martin started his team off, responding with a 6-0 run, but would begin to fade a bit as Green and Anthony's defense began to suffocate him. That is when Martti Must stepped in and scored 12 points on 12/15 shooting to propel his side to victory 21-13. Must stole the show with some crafty moves (one shown above), showing off his finesse style of play. That ultimately overpowered the smash-mouth style of play that Green brings to the table.

Stats:
Martti Must - 12 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 12/15 FG
Kevin Martin - 9 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 9/18 FG
Shado Green - 8 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks, 8/16 FG
Joel Anthony - 5 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 5/9 FG

Kene Yougario vs. Prazar Petrovic
Score: 21-12
Length: 15 minutes
Image Image

Like last year, Chauncey Billups finds himself with a big guy he can rely on to bail him out when he's ice cold, and that guy is Kene Yougario. Yougario dominated with 12 points going 12/14 from the field, and imposing his presence on the offense of Prazar Petrovic and Ray Allen. Allen did the dirty work on defense forcing five turnovers from Billups and Yougario, but Petrovic brought the offense to the table. With the score 19-12, Billups was able to finish it off with two easy layups to win 21-12.

Stats:
Kene Yougario - 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, 1 block, 12/14 FG
Chauncey Billups - 9 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 9/22 FG
Prazar Petrovic - 9 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 8/18 FG, 1/3 3P
Ray Allen - 3 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals, 3/7 FG

Tournament Standings
PlayerRecord
Kene Yougario1-0
Martti Must1-0
Karl Cristobal1-0
Ray Cer1-0
Amadeus Pelayo0-1
Badger Johnson0-1
Shado Green0-1

Shutting Down the Small Markets [17-5]

Postby Axel The Great on Thu Dec 22, 2011 5:49 am

Image

[14-5] Houston Rockets 107-87 Detroit Pistons [12-5]

Image Image
Kevin Martin posterizes Ben Wallace. | Rip Hamilton and the rest were held to poor shooting.

Lacking Ben Gordon, who is sidelined with a sore knee, the Rockets annihilated the Pistons in the Motor City. Looking up and down Detroit's boxscore, it's not difficult to see why. Richard Hamilton led the way for the Pistons with 24 points on a dismal 8/26 shooting. Rodney Stuckey was next with 18 points and nine assists, shooting an even worst 5/19 from the field. From there, no other Pistons player provided a threatening scoring punch.

For the Rockets, Kevin Martin was the big threat with 34 points, and he added six assists, four boards, and three blocks to his statline, going 11/17 from the field. Big men Luis Scola and Yao Ming gave him added help scoring 16 and 13 respectively, Scola notching a double-double of 16 and 10 boards.

The Rockets kicked off their week on the right foot, as they shot 46% from the field compared to Detroit's 38%, they had 10 blocks as a team and 52 points in the paint. Their bench sealed the deal in garbage time as it scored 33 points.

Key Performers:
Rockets:
Kevin Martin - 34 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 3 blocks, 11/17 FG, 12/13 FT
Luis Scola - 16 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 6/12 FG, 4/5 FT
Yao Ming - 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 3 blocks, 6/9 FG
Terrence Williams - 7 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 2/4 FG
Shane Battier - 7 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 3/7 FG

Pistons:
Richard Hamilton - 24 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 8/26 FG, 6/7 FT
Rodney Stuckey - 18 points, 9 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, 5/19 FG
Charlie Villanueva - 12 points, 6 rebounds, 5/12 FG
Greg Monroe - 8 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 4/5 FG
Jason Maxiell - 8 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 4/6 FG

[15-5] Houston Rockets 114-93 Milwaukee Bucks [9-12]

Image Image
Scola shot a dismal 2/7 in the first half, but he bounced back with a perfect 4/4 second half. | No Andrew Bogut, Brandon Jennings was given the spotlight.

The Rockets were just better offensively in this one. At home against an inferior team, many said the Rockets had this one locked in as a win, they just needed to go out there and play basketball.

After Andrew Bogut went down with a lower back strain 10 minutes into the game, there was nobody on the Bucks' roster that was willing to disrupt the Rockets' play inside. Naturally, the Rockets had a field day. Rockets' bigs Yao Ming and Luis Scola scored 16 and 15 respectively, all on great shooting numbers. Kevin Martin top scored once again for the game with 28 points and he also had six boards. A testament to the Rockets' inside dominance: they outrebounded Milwaukee 54-37.

Milwaukee does deserve some credit, however. Their perimeter defense was stellar forcing 14 turnovers from the Rockets, as they accumulated 13 steals. Their shooting numbers were another story. They shot 39% from the field, and 64% (18/28) from the free throw line. In contrast, Houston shot 52% from the field and shot 93% (26/28) from the line.

With two central division teams in a row taken down, the Rockets will face the Indiana Pacers and the Chicago Bulls. Will they be able to stop the rampage of the Rockets?

Key Performers:
Rockets:
Kevin Martin - 28 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 10/18 FG, 7/7 FT
Kyle Lowry - 17 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds, 5/12 FG, 7/8 FT
Yao Ming - 16 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 8/11 FG
Luis Scola - 15 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 6/11 FG
Patrick Patterson - 10 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block, 3/5 FG, 4/4 FT
Aaron Brooks - 8 points, 10 assists, 3 rebounds, 6 TO, 2/7 FG, 3/4 FT

Bucks:
Brandon Jennings - 23 points, 6 assists, 3 steals, 8/21 FG, 3/7 3P, 4/6 FT
Corey Maggette - 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 5/10 FG, 3/5 FT
George Koukoulis - 11 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block, 5/12 FG
Drew Gooden - 10 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal, 5/6 FG
Ersan Ilyasova - 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3/5 FG
John Salmons - 9 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, 3/16 FG

Image29 29 28 28 114

[16-5] Houston Rockets 99-89 Indiana Pacers [13-8]

Image Image
After a threatening comeback, K-Mart scored six points in the final four minutes to silence Indiana. | Scola going up against a former teammate.
Image Image
Danny Granger had more shot attempts than points scored. | Thaddeus Young played second fiddle to Granger, since no one else was doing a good job.

Indiana went up 6-2 to start the game, when Kevin Martin drilled the first three of the game. Danny Granger answered right back with a three of his own. After that, the Rockets went on a 10-0 run and cruised to have a flawless first quarter. To add to it, Luis Scola scored a buzzer-beating layup that had to be reviewed but it counted to put the Rockets up by 12 ending the first period.

The second quarter was straight up bucket-trading, after both teams struggled to get a rhythm early on in the period. Indiana's bench was key in keeping the margin manageable, as the role players scored 33 points to make an effort to stay alive. The starters, other than Thaddeus Young, had problems and it showed in the third quarter. Houston pulled away to an 18-point lead as Indiana had no answer for what they brought to the table. Danny Granger scored 27 points but on a terrible 11/31 from the field. The same story applies to almost every other Pacers starter.

Indiana was able to mount a comeback in the fourth and they were able to come within eight points of tying the game. Kevin Martin however, had other plans. He neutralized their run by scoring easy points of his own, thanks to some set ups by Kyle Lowry. His clutch plays allowed Houston to come away with a win to finish the week undefeated.

Key Performers:
Rockets:
Kevin Martin - 29 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 10/20 FG, 3/4 3P, 6/6 FT

oh yea and i'm a small SG, nice (Y)

Pretty good for your first game. Keep those numbers up and you could end up being Tournament MVP.

Not to mention you also had 8 assists. You can probably be a perennial triple-double threat this tournament. (Y)

This is what I do on 2k12.:))

Nice we won, I think I pick the right guy.xD

It was just one game, but you and K-Love have got some promise.

They hopefully should if you're a starter. You're only limited to score 21 points as a team in the tournament games so it's just a very small sample size preview of what your player will do in the NBA.

I see you as the next Valdis (see: last season's tournament), biggest player, great shot blocker, but a superior offensive player. Looking forward to those quotes, make sure they're in a Brazilian accent. :P

Bucks didn't get much help from their starting unit so their bench had to bail them out. You were the leading scorer off the bench. (Y)

Good to see you back. :) I was wondering what had happened to you and how you would react to being on the Lakers. They chased a point guard in the draft and you were the best available when they picked. I think you are second among rookies and scoring so far, and first in assists and steals. (Y)

I think he should just retire. :P

I'll hopefully be able to get one more week and one more round of the NLSC Tournament posted before Christmas break is over.

It's early, but it looks like a championship year if you can stay healthy.
