Bucks Request Waivers On Booth
Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks have requested waivers on center
Calvin Booth. Booth will be designated as the team’s amnesty player as allowed under the new collective bargaining agreement.
The amnesty provision allows a team to release a player and remove his contract amount from the team’s salary cap for purposes of calculating the luxury tax. The Bucks will be responsible for the remaining years of Booth’s contract and he is free to sign with another team.
Booth was acquired by Milwaukee on February 24, 2005, along with
Alan Henderson and an undisclosed amount of cash from Dallas in exchange for
Keith Van Horn. The 29-year-old appeared in 17 games with the Bucks last season, averaging 2.5 points and 2.9 rebounds in 11.1 minutes per game.
In six NBA seasons, Booth has averaged 4.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 250 career games.
The Bucks are 5-7 (.417; 4th in Central, 10th in Western Conference).
Nets Waive Mercer
New Jersey Nets
The Nets have waived guard
Ron Mercer. The team also announced that Mercer will be designated as the team’s amnesty player as allowed in the new collective bargaining agreement.
Signed as a free agent on August 12, 2004, the 29-year old Mercer appeared in 18 games for the Nets last season, averaging 7.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and just over one assist per game.
He missed a total of 63 games due to injury, which included 42 games due to a left knee injury, for which he had arthroscopic surgery on November 15, 2004. Mercer missed the final 20 games of the season with a lower back strain.
Nets are 8-5 (.615; 2nd in Atlantic, 4th in Eastern Conference).
