2011 All-NBA Teams
Posted by Daryl Morey May 22, 2011 at 12:32 PM
At last, all of the NBA regular season awards are out. The six single player awards and now the All-NBA Teams. Unfortunately, the media didn't think anyone on the Houston Rockets deserved a spot in any of the All-NBA, Defensive, or Rookie teams, and I am therefore writing this in bitterness at this fact.
Let's start with the All-NBA First Team. Derrick Rose and Chris Paul were the two guards named to the team. Rose made a run in the regular season which leave many arguing that he is now the best point guard in the league. Paul had that crown before the season began, and to many Rose still has ways to go before he can surpass him; Paul's all-around game and defense is still superior, not to mention he outstrips him in shooting numbers. Still, both players are true leaders of their respective teams, and are valuable assets when looking to build teams around them. Well-deserved spots for both.
LeBron James and Kevin Durant join them at the forward positions. James, now a three-time MVP, had to make an appearance here; his great all-around numbers make him an excellent asset for the Miami Heat, and of course, he is the reigning MVP. Durant on the other hand was the runner-up MVP, and his second consecutive scoring title makes good reason to be in the All-NBA First Team. For the fourth year in a row, we also find Dwight Howard named the best center in the league. His numbers were superior to that of any other center in the league; the gap between him and the second-best center is just too great. His shot-blocking has turned him into a wanted asset around the league.
And this is where I'm bitter. For the All-NBA Second Team, the guards were Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade. Sure, they both have better all-around numbers than our very own Kevin Martin, but Martin outdueled them by a significant margin in their regular season faceoffs. Not to mention Martin's shooting numbers makes Bryant and Wade look like Trevor Ariza. Either way, I see the media's point in putting both above Martin; they are the two best shooting guards in the league right now, and definitely have been valuable assets the past few years. Danny Granger and Josh Smith join those two question marks as they both had breakout seasons, Smith winning the Defensive Player of the Year Award. And next in line, is Al Jefferson, whom was excellent for the Jazz after some injury-riddled seasons in Minnesota.
Martin wasn't going to make the second team? Fine. Why not third team? No. Rajon Rondo and Deron Williams beat him there as well. While they as well have better all-around numbers than Martin, Martin had a huge impact on the Rockets, single-handedly leading them to first place in the Western Conference. That alone should make him worthy of overtaking either Rondo or Williams. But yes, they both put up astronomical assist numbers all season, and that's what the media is after after all, right? Joining them, is Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire, and Brook Lopez. The All-NBA Third team award went to the Atlantic Division this season.
Here are the All-NBA Teams, with their stats:2011 All-NBA Teams
Moving on to the Defensive teams. No surprise to find top three candidates for the DPOY award on the All-NBA Defensive First Team. Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, and of course, the award winner Josh Smith headline the first team. Joining them is Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade. Wade beat his teammate LeBron James to the first team this year, after being outraced there by Kobe Bryant year-after-year. It seems as if the media has finally snapped out of their fetish for Kobe's defense which doesn't appear to exist. It was a long time coming.
In the All-NBA Defensive Second Team, we find James. James' defensive numbers dropped in comparison to prior years; his block numbers were below 1.0, but his steals numbers are a career high. He was still outdone by Garnett and Smith on that end of the floor. Tim Duncan and Marcus Camby also made their appearance, continuing to be well-known for their shot-blocking and protecting the paint. Rajon Rondo and Andre Iguodala were the guards selected, no surprise there really.
So here are the Defense All-NBA teams, the best defensive assets in the league:2011 All-NBA Defensive Teams
And finally, we'll end with the All-Rookie Teams. John Wall and Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin headline the All-Rookie first team. Two athletically explosive players, valuable assets for their respective teams moving forward. Wesley Johnson, Sixth Man of the Year, joins them, while Evan Turner and Ed Davis' appearances raise some eyebrows. Turner and Davis missed a considerable amount of games during the season, but the impact they could have on a team was there.
Finally, Landry Fields headlined the All-Rookie second team, putting up excellent numbers for the New York Knicks, especially in the rebounding category. Al-Farouq Aminu, Ekpe Udoh, Damion James, and Derrick Favors join him. Their numbers are really not anything special (except for the rebounding), but we are yet to see some of these players reach their full potential, and they are likely to become excellent supporting assets for their teams in a few years.
So, here are the All-Rookie teams, as I end this long rant about the some of the most valuable assets in the NBA.2011 All-NBA Rookie Teams

Where the hell is Axel? I'd have preferred for him to write this article rather than Morey. I don't know how many times the word 'asset' was mentioned throughout the entire article.

Good to see Rose make All-NBA First Team. At least he wasn't screwed by the media there.Posted by Ariza's Bricks May 22, 2011 at 2:15 PM
I skimmed through the article and saw a mention of my name. How dare you, Morey, talk about my bricks like that. Especially after you gave me that multiple-year contract a couple of years ago.Posted by Kobe #24 4-ever May 22, 2011 at 3:12 PM

@ The REAL K-Mart (Kenyon sucks!), I don't know. Haven't seen him in a few days. I'm just continuing his blog that he requested for me to continue if he was ever on a long leave of absence.
