Third Quarter woes cause Wizards to lose

Possibly one of the greatest play-off games occured at the Amway Center between the Orlando Magic and the Washington Wizards.

It was only fitting that the home team -- the Orlando Magic had the last laugh and defeated the Wizards 106-99 to tie the series up 2-2.

"They are giving us a problem right now that we need to fix." said coach Flip Saunders. "We wanted to go back to our arena and close them out in a 4-1 series, obviously that cant happen no more, so we are going to have to either win at the Magic in game 6 to advance to play again in our own court to decide once and for all."

The Washington Wizards truth be told, would rather have that extra day off before facing the Chicago Bulls or the favorite the Miami Heat in the conference finals -- If they advance and knock off the Orlando Magic.

But you never know ~ This Orlando Magic team is resilient and just won't call it quits. "We are thirsty for a championship." said Dwight Howard who recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Star of the Orlando Magic was Vince Carter and Jameer Nelson. Carter recorded 20 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals -- Nelson recorded a point less but recorded 5 assists but conceded a season high 13 turnovers.

13's a big number for one of the more premier point guards in the league, but when you look at the competition he faces on the other side of the court you would figure why he has turned the ball over so frequently.

But the start of the Wizards wasn't who you would think it would be: Josh Howard. Howard was all over the court this game although he posted season best's -- he still came up on the short end of his 30 point haul. Howard recorded 4 three pointers out of 11 attempts and went 13 of 25 on field goals and recorded 2 steals.

The much hyped draft pick John Wall continues to live up to his draft stock, recording 28 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. You have to ask yourself: Why did the Washington Wizards lose, when their top two players out performed the Magic's top two players.

The answer was their ghastly third quarter blip, in which they recorded 16 points compared to Orlando's 32. A big gap of sixteen points.

That quarter showed just how the Orlando Magic can bounce back into a game rapidly after a big half-time deficit. The Wizards chased back and was within a 98-97 deficit before costly mistakes and intentional fouls boosted the Orlando Magic to score over 100 points.

It's not the end of the world for the Washington Wizards -- but come in two days time back at the Verizon Center - the Washington Wizards need a strong performence and a non encore of what was such an unfamiliar third quarter brain wash.

After getting a pre-game prep talk from the 1977 NBA Finals MVP -- Wes Unseld, the Washington Wizards put on an inspiring performence which led them to a 87-84 victory, and a win that took the lead 3-2 in the series.

After a 10 point deficit during the fourth quarter John Wall came to life and recorded 13 points in the last five minutes finishing with 27 points from 12 of 20 field goals.

Even though Wall played 10 minutes less than Josh Howard he scored 10 points more. Howard had one of his worst performences coming off a strong game four performence. Howard went 7 of 22 on field goals and 2 of 8 on three pointers.

"We got the win that's all right now what is important, we will fix our fundamentals and try to wrap the game up in Orlando in two days time." said coach Flip Saunders.

The Orlando Magic put in one of their best offensive games but still came up short. Even though five players recorded more than 13 points they still could not stop a late comeback from the Washington Wizards who scored 30 points durign the fourth quarter.

"We haven't been able to stop John Wall much this series." admitted Dwight Howard who recorded 15 points and 11 rebounds.

John Wall showed some playmaking back on the defensive side of the ball recording 3 steals although turning the ball over four times.

"You talk about big time players, and he is one of thise players." said shooting guard Nick Young. Josh Howard couldn't agree more: "He's such a dynamic player, we were lucky to of got him with the first overall pick."

The Washington Wizards defied the Lottery and received the first overall pick. Can they defy the other teams and win the NBA Championship for the first time since 1978?

The Washington Wizards are going back to somewhere they had not been in thirty-two years.

The Conference Finals -- Courtesy of Josh Howard and Johnanthan Wall. The Washington Wizards finally oust the Orlando Magic 113-94 in game six to wrap up the series 4-2.

"We are pleased with how we performed, were very excited to play either the Chicago Bulls or the Miami Heat in the Conference Finals, we will be ready, we sure know they will be as well." said coach Flip Saunders.

The Orlando Magic gave all they could but ultimatley came up short when they faced the Washington Wizards.

"You have to give those guys credit, they played a heck of a ball game tonight, and not just tonight but continously throughout the entire series, it was a great series, we came up a little short in some area's but good luck to them." said a dissapointed Dwight Howard, who scored just 15 points in the final game.

Flip Saunders couldn't stop congratulating his players. "We have a great team, Josh Howard scored 22, so did Blatche, Wall scored 20 and Thornton scored 18, we played our most complete game tonight, we should be proud of ourselves."

One of the main reasons why the Wizards defeated the Orlando Magic rests upon the shoulders of Josh Howard and John Wall. "Those players played great, it was hard defending them." said Magic's coach Stan Van Gundy.

Spotlight game: No. 5 Chicago Bulls at No. 2 Washington Wizards

Image

Place: Verizon Center, Washington, D.C.
Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
TV: ESPN

Three Reasons why Washington will win

They have John Wall. Right now in present time, every general manager and head coach in the National Basketball Association want's a John Wall or John Wall himself on their team. They would be lying if they told you they don't want him. Right now bar-none John Wall is currently the best on-form basketball player on today's court. Wall is averaging nearly 30 points per game during the post-season and will go up against one of the best point guards in the league in Derrick Rose, this will be a match-up for the ages.

Josh Howard's three pointers. Josh Howard has been one of the silent producers this season with his three points, Howard to his credit has also helped the Wizards to some wins in the post-season, although he's not the John Wall-esq type of playmaker, he's the next best player the Wizards have on their roster and will need him to be accurate on the three pointers this series.

Homecourt Advantage. The Arena will be louder than ever, the Arena reached over 130 db's in the game 5 win over the Orlando Magic, expect it to be much more louder this time around. The players will definitley be comfortable behind home crowd support for four of the seven games.

Three Reasons why Orlando will win

Derrick Rose. Go through some of the point guard's drafted recently and tell me they haven't made a greater impact than that of Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls. Rose has been lights out for the Bulls this season and was just as good in his first two seasons. He isn't as good as John Wall, but is near that talent border to seperate the good from the great.

Great Offensive Attack. The Bulls have the best offensive game in the NBA Playoffs this season and had one of the best in the regular season, they go up against one of the best defenses in the league in the Washington Wizards. The Wizards strongest weakness on defense is the Bulls greatest strength on offense, so it will be interesting to see how this series pans out.

Best Eastern Conference coach in the league. The Chicago Bulls boast one of the best coaches in the NBA in Tom Thibodeau. Although Thibodeau has only been head coach of the Bulls for this season, he has made some great adjustments when the Bulls are losing gives Rose some great tactics on the court for the best offensive attack in the NBA.

Who Will win the series: The Chicago Bulls in seven, Lakers-Bulls final.
