Warriors trade Barnes; 1st round pick for Ross

Image

David Aldridge, http://www.nba.com, 23.11.2014

Not often do you see two of their respective conference leaders trade within eachother, yet it has happened now. The Golden State Warriors have agreed to trade Harrison Barnes and a 2017 1st round pick for Terrence Ross of the Toronto Raptors. Many people did not see this trade coming as the Warriors have been on a search for a back-up point guard for Stephen Curry. Meanwhile, the Raptors have enjoyed success with the current roster that they have, being first in the Eastern conference. The trade however does make sense for both teams.

Harrison Barnes, who is currently averaging 6.7 PPG and 3.6 RPG, has been demanding more minutes from the coaches, who have not granted his wish, due to the play of Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green. Reports have said that Barnes was unhappy and thought he could be more of an impact than the two players mentioned earlier.

Terrence Ross, who is currently averaging 8.0 PPG, 2.2 RPG and 1.5 APG, has had the same problem, being benched behind Demar DeRozan. Toronto has not played him in the small forward position, stating that he is not strong enough to cope with the players who play the three.

Yet at the same time, Raptors have not had a strong, impactful small forward to begin with. Players like Landry Fields and James Johnson have shown poor performances through out the season. Barnes is certain to bring in more strength and scoring to the team.

For the Warriors, Ross is a agressive scorer and a good defender. He fits perfectly to come off the bench behind Klay Thompson and impact the game in many ways.

That is all in theory - how the trade will actually pan out, nobody has a clue. One thing is for certain - both of these teams are the best in their divisions, they don't make trades to become weaker.

Warriors trade: Harrison Barnes, 2017 1st round pick
Raptors trade: Terrence Ross

Right, so, I wanted to explain a few reasons why I made this trade:

1. Raptors offered me this trade - not much to explain on this one, I just felt that the trade they offered me is fair and I would like a scorer behind Thompson.
2. Brandon Rush - Rush is playing poor, so somebody more impactful behind Thompson would benefit the team a whole lot more.
3. Shawn Livingston and Stephen Curry - Right, so I was looking for a point guard to replace Livingston, yet these last few games, I have felt that Livingston is becoming more impactful. On top of that, Curry came to speak with me and was troubled about the trade rumors. That made me switch focus on finding a shooting guard instead of a point guard.
4. Barnes became unhappy - Like I wrote earlier, Barnes demanded minutes more often, and with Iggy and Green playing well, I decided not to give him those minutes.

I like this trade. No disrespect to Barnes, but I think Ross will make a much better sixth man for you. It will be interesting to see how well Curry, Thompson and Ross can play together.

Something about that picture tells me that Barnes isn't hugely excited to be in Toronto

You're a playoff team and maybe even a contender, so the pick isn't a huge loss. I like T-Ross a lot so I'm excited about the deal. It looks like Draymond is doing all the little things defensively, so having players like him, Ross, and Speights gives you a lot of flexibility on your bench.

I like the trade too it's a very realistic trade of two players with decent skill sets who are living on potential.

I know Ross is further on in his development but I think it's a fair trade.

Yeah, so far, they all seem to click together pretty well. I couldn't really control KD in the loss, but other then that, the whole team has been playing well.

Well, he should be getting starting minutes at Toronto, so hopefully he will step up his game (Y).

The Warriors bench is absolutely amazing. I had no idea before I started, but Speights and Green(and now Livingston) really have been a great surprise for me. Adding T-Ross to this should only help out.

Yeah, I thought it was a realistic trade aswell. Toronto themselves offered the trade - I couldn't refuse it.

Players of the Month
East

Image

John Wall :: Washington Wizards :: 19.9 PPG :: 4.4 RPG :: 6.6 APG :: 1.6 SPG :: 1.1 BPG

Although Wizards are not the top of the East, it certainly isn't because of Wall. He has put in great numbers and was voted POTW once before. Wall had his biggest impact in the game against Indiana, as he scored 34 points and 8 assists. If Wizards want to stay in the fight, Wall has to keep performing, but so far, he has been proving the doubters that he can step up and be a leader.

West

Image
Image

Kevin Durant :: Oklahoma City Thunder :: 31.2 PPG :: 7.5 RPG :: 4.5 APG :: 2.0 SPG :: 0.9 BPG

The scoring leader has not changed a thing, as he has kept on scoring and destroying the teams in the West. He scored 49 points against the league leaders, Golden State Warriors. Him and Westbrook have been leading the crew, and many people believe that if Durant is going to be an MVP, then this season is the best chance, with Lebron James struggling at Cleveland.

Great start to the season for you. It's nice to see the Raptors and Warriors leading the way, instead of the usual suspects.

Have Atlanta made a big trade or was signing Michael Beasley enough to make them so good?

Nice layout man, simple and effective, and this is going fast! Scratching my head at some trades too, but oh well, that's why I approve them all first in MyLeague...

I have no clue why Atlanta are so good. I haven't played them yet, my first game against them is at the start of February. They have no big scorers (Horford is the highest with 14.6 PPG, 8.9 RPG), yet the team itself was on a winstreak of 10 at some point.

Beasley is averaging 4.3 PPG, I am pretty sure he is not the "key factor" there.

I do see your point of view on it, but I like giving CPU the ropes and letting them trade, it is certain that their trades are not the most realistic, but they do spice things up a bit in my opinion.

I appreciate that you like the layout (Y). Hopefully we can keep this good form going, yet at this moment, I am looking forward to playing Clippers and Thunder again.

Interesting trade, giving up a first round pick for not that much of an upgrade? I know the pick will probably be a late pick, but still. Though Ross is like Gerald Green in video games, so he should be awesome. (Y)

You are right, it isn't much of an upgrade player wise, yet if you look at dept in the positions, I find it a good improvement. And you are completely right with Ross being awesome. :)

Harden is the best player in the West, two weeks in a row. First game against the Suns, he scored 27 points along with 10 rebounds and 7 assists. He then scored 29 points and gave 9 assists against Golden State, yet that was not enough for the win. However, scoring 41 points and gave 7 assists against the Kings to get the win. Last game of the week was a win against the Nuggets, where he scored 18 points along with 8 rebounds and 8 assists.

King James scored 28 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 assists against the Nets. He then had a quiet night against Toronto, scoring 13 points with 7 rebounds and 10 assists. In the loss against the Thunder, he scored 16 points, yet he came back strong against the Pelicans with a 31 point-8 rebound game. Many believe that he shouldn't have been the POTW.

Curry is still putting on amazing numbers, which is the main reason why Warriors are one of the best teams in the West. He scored 25 points along with 12 assist in the rematch against the Pelicans. Then, he scored 26 points and gave 9 dimes in Memphis. In the last game of the month, he stepped up and dropped 34 points against Oklahoma City. He also scored the game winner in overtime! One thing is for certain, Warriors fans have to pray that Currys ankles don't get hurt.

Deron Williams scored 16 points along with 9 assists in the loss against Miami. He then had a abysmal night against Toronto, with 4 points and 7 assists. However, in the last game in Cleveland, he took the rains and scored 22 points along with 16 assists to get the win. Many people believe that he didn't deserve to be the POTW, yet Deron himself feels that he had an impact this week. "I think that, even though I played badly against the Raptors, I am happy how I played this week and I am helping the team push to the playoffs.

Curry with the game-winner in overtime against the Thunder. Couldn't get more realistic than that :P

Must have been a great feeling winning a game like that against one of your biggest conference rivals.

It was so tasty, I couldn't believe it. It did help however that KD had a off night.

I honestly think the Western conference matchups this season will be really interesting, as those teams look a whole lot more threating that the Eastern ones. The strongest Eastern one is Toronto with a record of 23-7, while we are at top of the West (22-3), OKC behind us (21-4), tied with SAS (also 21-4). Lakers are the worst team in the West, yet they beat Bulls by 20 points; Bulls is still second or third AFAIK in East. Hopefully I can roll on with this momentum and continue really strong.

Cousins had a great week. He scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against the Lakers, then the next day, he scored 24 points and grabbed 21 rebounds at Golden State. Away at Phoenix, he managed to have another double-double, with 20 points and 13 rebounds. In the final game of the week, he was quiet, as he only scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds against New York Knicks. Unfortunately for him, Kings lost all of their games this week.

Lowry started strong, scoring 25 points and gave 8 assists in the loss against the Knicks. He then had a triple-double (14 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists) in the win against Chicago. In the final game of the week against the Clippers, he went quiet, only scoring 8 points with 5 assists. That last game was the only game that the Raptors lost this week.

December 28-December 29: Bogut and Thompson injured!

Postby Cruzerr on Mon Dec 15, 2014 12:20 am

December 28-December 29
Injury Report

Image

Bogut and Thompson injured; hurt, but not out

While the Warriors have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, they have not had any kind of injury issues. The reason for their success is pretty simple - hard work and a team effort. Every player plays a huge part; this has lead them to a fairytale-like start, as they are at the top of the West with a record of 25-4.

Yet things are about to get more difficult. The Warriors medical staff have now reported injures on both Andrew Bogut and Klay Thompson. While both of them can play on, it is certain that these injures will make Golden States games a lot more difficult, as they prepare to face the best in the East, Toronto Raptors and the team right behind them in the West, Oklahoma City Thunder.

The staff has reported that Bogut has suffered from a severe ankle sprain during training. The doctors have estimated that the injury will take 2-4 weeks to heal completely, yet Bogut is able to play on.

Image

Meanwhile with Klay Thompson. the coaches have confirmed that he is suffering from a pinched nerve in the back. Coach Steve Kerr has said that the injury will take a lot of time to heal up, yet Klay wants to play and help the team out regardless of his injury.

"Klay is a tough player, gets that from his father. The medical staff has told me that he will be injured for about 6 weeks, but he can play on. He still came to practise, he did not scrim with us, but worked on other parts of his game."

How will this effect the Warriors, is not certain. What can be said, is that Terrence Ross and Marreese Speights will probably get more minutes, and hopefully they can step up and keep the fans and teams hopes up to advance to the playoffs with a high seed.

Never a good sign, but with all your depth hopefully you can manage. I like Ezeli so maybe he can play well to alleviate Bogut's minutes.

Tough break losing both Bogut and Thompson, still you have Ross and Mo to fill in and David Lee can also play center too.

SPG: 1.9 |--| 0.8
BPG: 0.4 |--| 0.1
Team records: [28-6] |--| [17-18]
Westbrook is still running to become the MVP with his partner in crime, Kevin Durant. In the win against the Mavericks, he scored 26 points with 6 assists and 7 rebounds. In Phoenix, he scored 20 points along with 11 assists. He did not stop there. He scored another 26 points with 10 assists in the win against Washington. He looks to be in great shape, if he keeps this up, who knows which one of the two teammates becomes the MVP.

Stephenson is certainly the reason for Hornets good form recently. He dropped 33 points along with 9 rebounds and 6 assists in the win against the Bucks. A day later they managed to beat Houston. Stephenson scored 29 points with 8 rebounds and 9 assists. The two games that Charlotte did lose, was against Cleveland (Lance scored 14 points with 8 rebounds) and Orlando (Lance scored 8 points with 4 rebounds). This means if Lance does not perform, Hornets will suffer.
