THE TRADE:
During a time now too long ago, the Thunder urgently needed to address their lack of a strong big man to add to their young, explosive line up and the Celtics were getting older and looking for that tweener PF to matchup with Lama Odums of the NBA. The Thunder acquired the strong bodied, defensive center Kendrick Perkins and the highflying sparkplug Nate Robinson from these very same Celtics, who in return received the tweener PF of their dreams in Jeff Green, who the team actually drafted before trading to the Seattle Supersonics in the Ray Allen trade as well as the foreign center Nenad Kristic. Both teams felt they had a fair trade and that it would benefit each team to go deep into the playoffs. And they were right, both teams have depending on their new pieces to take them both to the NBA Finals where the former teammates will battle it out for the chance of being crowned the Champions.
Youth vs. Veterans:
When your superstar is only 22-years old, the Thunder are one of the few youngest teams with a lot of success. Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and Serge Ibaka are the young core that have been growing together and have developing a strong chemistry and none of them are older than the 22-year old Kevin Durant. At this stage they are already contending for the Championship, just think of the future this core can have in the years to come. They might even have as much success as the Championship legacy of the Boston Celtics. The Celtics have been more to the NBA Finals more times than any other franchise and have won the most Championships, including the most recent one by the Big 3 in 2008. The Celtics are veterans at winning despite their age, so it will be up to how much energy the Thunder will dish out and if the Celtics experience will be able to contain it.
The Point Guard Battle:
Rajon Rondo has always been the motor that has kept the Big 3 rolling in Boston, but recently has began to show that he can hold his own. His combination of quickness, strength, and court vision has helped him record numerous triple-doubles this season and in the playoffs, including 2 triple-doubles in their series against the Miami Heat. Russell Westbrook on the other hand had many criticism entering the NBA on whether he is a true point guard after playing the off guard in UCLA. What ever position Westbrook is meant for, it doesn't matter as his skills are perfect for this Thunder team next to superstar Kevin Durant, and it has shown by helping carry this team to their first NBA Finals appearance. Westbrook has been the unsung hero for the team, carrying the scoring load whenever Durant is struggling.
These two also faced off during all-star weekend in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge, both advanced to the final round, but it was Rajon Rondo who took home the trophy on a surprising comeback.
Shaq Report:
The Big Diesel is expected to be out for about another week and hopes to be in the lineup for one of the games when the Celtics return to the TD Garden. But how many minutes will be up to head coach Doc Rivers and the training staff. Shaq has been rumored to retire at the end of the season, going out with a Championship would be a great way to finish his 19-year career. If the Celtics win the Championship, Shaq would have won a ring from 3 different teams (Miami Heat and LA Lakers); only two other players have done it before (John Salley and Robert Horry).

Game 1: Oklahoma City Arena - OKC LEADS 1-0
The opening of the 2011 NBA Finals and the Thunder look like they are the real deal, as they got out early against the Celtics who were struggling to score. Rajon Rondo got into early foul trouble and only played limited minutes early on, but eventually his matchup, Russell Westbrook would be forced to sit early as well and the Celtics would narrow the gap. The Thunder bench would continue to struggle as the Celtics were finally getting into their game, but it was the Celtics rookie Avery Bradley scoring 8 points hitting 2 3PTers that would help cut the lead to only 3 going into halftime. The 3Q started off with each team matching the other shot by shot, until former Celtics Nate Robinson went on a scoring binge with 14 points in the quarter including 3 3PTers. The Celtics on the other hand continued their struggles, especially from the bench where the Bradley was still the only real contributor as the Celtics would fall behind by double digits for the first time this series. Paul Pierce would not go out with a fight as he finished the night with a game high 27 points to help bring his team back within striking range, but with Kevin Durant shooting a low percentage it was all Russell Westbrook leading the Thunder one step closer to their first championship.
Game 2: Oklahoma City Arena - OKC LEADS 2-0
Ray Allen broke any momentum the Thunder had from game 1 as he opened with 2 3PTers. The Celtics would ride Allen's 11 1Q points to go a double digit lead early and kept the pressure on the young Thunder, who turned it over 8 times in the quarter. The Thunder shot a remarkably low 20% in the 1Q and neither player had more than 1 made field goal. Avery Bradley was still a big surprise for the Celtics off the bench and this time got some help from Linas Klieza. The Thunder picked up their scoring only slightly behind Nate Robinson's 11 first half points off the bench to get within 4 going into halftime. Kevin Durant continued to struggled, making only 2 FG in the first half to go with only 7 points, while the Big 3 not including Ray Allen also struggled to find the basket. Russell Westbrrok would again be forced to take charge of the Thunder offense and was able to get close in the 3Q, but former Thunder Jeff Green finally got into the action off the bench and helped keep his new team, the Celtics, ahead by double digits. With the crowd on their feet, Westbrook and Robinson lead the Thunder on a massive comeback to take the lead for the first time this game with less than half of the 4Q remaining. The Celtics production seemed to halt after the play of Ray Allen and Jeff Green as the Celtics would only score 12 points in the quarter, and that was enough for Nate Robinson to finish the night with 21 points off the bench to go along with Russell Westbrooks' 26 points. Rajon Rondo was able to record 17 assists in their loss for the Celtics, who after falling 0-2 in the finals hope to go to Boston to even the score and possibly with the return of Shaq O'Neal.

Game 3: TD Garden - OKC LEADS 2-1
The Finals have moved to the East Coast where the Thunder face a Celtics group ready to battle, and they unveiled a new weapon to the Finals with the return of Shaquille O'Neal. The Thunder started hot again as they made their first 4 shots while the Celtics missed theirs. With some fine tuning timeouts and plays drawn up by Doc Rivers, the Celtics started playing their brand of basketball with Ray Allen scoring a quick 11 points in the 1Q while the rest played tough defense forcing the Thunder to 28% shooting in the 1Q to stretch the Celtic lead to double digits. Then to follow it up was one of the most shocking 2Qs in NBA history as the Thunder managed to lower their shooting percentage and fall behind by more than 30 points as the Celtics Big 3 were scoring at will. Coming out of halftime the Thunder were able to pick up their scoring, but the sheer presence of the Big Fella negated any scoring opportunities the Thunder had near the paint. They were forced to only jumps shots, all of which were heavily contested. In the 4Q there was simply no hope for the Thunder as they finished shooting 31% on the night while the Celtics almost 60% with their Big 3 scoring more than 21 points each to a 40+ point blowout win.
Game 4: TD Garden - Series Tied 2-2
The game was much closer to start this time as both teams started shooting over 70% from the field. Kevin Durant finally woke up as he went 9-9 in the first quarter for 19 points, but the Celtics Big 3 shot exceptionally well enough to keep them ahead. Kevin Durant would continue his streak and score 28 points in the first half, but without much help the Celtics were able to stay within 2 points going into halftime. Coming out of halftime the Celtics instantly turned up the defense and allowed the Big Man, Shaq O'Neal handle the paint on both sides. With Shaq denying the Thunder from scoring, their shooting percentage went down to the low 30's. Kevin Durant was held to only 4 points in the quarter, while the Celtics leaked out to a double digit lead. In the 4Q, Russell Westbrook did his best effort to get the team back into it with a near triple-double, but could not overcome the veteran experience of the Boston Celtics who would secure the lead and tie the series.

Game 5: TD Garden - BOS LEADS 3-2
The start of the game was a complete small forward battle as Paul Pierce (11 points) and Kevin Durant (12 points) were the only ones scoring for their teams, hardly any other player on both sides had more than 1 FG. No other Thunder scored for the first half of the quarter when Nate Robinson checked in. In the 2Q, Durant was limited to only 2 points while the rest of his team struggled. The Celtics on the other hand took off to a double digit lead as Rajon Rondo and the rest of the Big 3 were helping out Pierce. Rondo had 5 points to go along with 13 rebounds and 8 assists in the first half. After starting the 3Q in a stalemate, Westbrook and Durant both lead the Thunder to within single digits, but a strong quarter by former Thunder Jeff Green negated the run and kept the Celtics ahead going into the 4Q. A defensive shutdown occurred in the final quarter as the Celtics held Kevin Durant without a point in the final 12 minutes of the game. Rajon Rondo completed another triple-double during this post season with a 10 point, 16 rebound, 15 assists night.

Game 6: Oklahoma City Arena - Series Tied 3-3
To avoid elimination the Thunder grouped together and started the game evenly matched in scoring with one another, moving the ball and not depending on Kevin Durant, which lead to a close game. Until Russell Westbrook started to catch fire and pulled the Thunder ahead. The veteran Celtics are so close to winning the Championship, but the Thunder would not have it in the 2Q as they played hard together, forcing the Celtics tough shot after tough shot as the Celtics would shoot below 30%. In the 3Q, the Thunder continued to rebound everything insight and kept the pressure on as they would lead going into the 4Q. Ray Allen was able to help cut the lead, but the energy of the Thunder just kept going. With a strong defense and rebounding from the role players, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and spark plug Nate Robinson off the bench carried the team to force a deciding Game 7 for the NBA Championship.
