WEST: CONF. SEMI-FINALS
NOH Wins 4-2(3) NEW ORLEANS HORNETS vs. (2) LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS New Orleans Arena - New Orleans, LA May 18, 2011 Matchups Chris Paul PG Baron Davis Marcus Thornton SG Nick Young Trevor Ariza SF Wilson Chandler David West PF Blake Griffin Emeka Okafor C Ben Wallace BLAKE GOES BEAST MODE, WALLACE GETS EJECTED, PAUL STEALS THE SHOW
THE FACTS: Right away Blake Griffin went into complete beast mode going dunk after dunk and alley-oop after alley-oop in the 1Q en route to 19 points. But without Eric Gordon or DeAndre Jordan, Chris Paul was able to easily keep the Hornets in the game, never trailing by more than 10 points. Marcus Thornton and Willie Green were hot from deep and a major part in keeping the team within reach at all times. Nick Young stepping in for the injured Eric Gordon also did a good job scoring offensively, but was not near as efficient as Eric Gordon. Late in the 2Q, Ben Wallace took down Luke Ridnour and was ejected from the game after being called for a Flagrant 2, this was a major blow to the Clippers as it meant that Blake was completely all alone to go up against the Hornets bigs, David West and Emeka Okafor. In the 3Q Blake Griffin continued to dominate despite not having a Center playing by his side. But who ever Blake would defend, meant that a smaller player would defend the other making a mismatch the rest of the game. The Clippers were able to enter the 4Q with a lead thanks to Blake Griffin, but it was clear that he could not do it alone. The start of the 4Q was all the Hornets as Chris Paul single-handedly controlled the game. Blake put up a last minute effort to tie the game with less than a minute in the game, hoping to force an OT period to give the Clippers another chance at a possible Game 7. But with less than 4 seconds remaining, Chris Paul slipped by the defense and laid it up to put the Hornets up. Blake Griffin had a chance to tie or win the game on the inbound, but Emeka Okafor, who has been strong on defense the whole series stretched his long arms out to get a hand on the ball and tip it away from Blake. Time would expire and the Hornets have completed the upset.
THE STAT: Blake Griffin went on full beast mode to do what he could to keep the Gordon-less Clippers in the playoffs by going for a franchise playoff record 52 points
QUOTABLE: Paul, "You really have to respect them, they are a legit team now. They are young and have a lot of potential."
HOT: Blake Griffin scored a franchise playoff high 52 points and missed only 8 shots doing it
NOT: Clippers point guards (Baron Davis & Eric Bledsoe) combined for only 2 points on 1-4 shooting
GOOD MOVE: Chris Paul sneaks by the defense to put the Hornets up 2 with less than 4 seconds remaining, then on the in bound Blake Griffin is open for a 3PTer, but Emeka Okafor comes in at the last second to tip the ball away
BAD MOVE: Late in the 2Q, Ben Wallace took down Luke Ridnour, not only injuring Ridnour, but also getting ejected from the game with a Flagrant 2
Injuries: Luke Ridnour was taken down by Ben Wallace and suffered back spasms, he was able to make his FT and return later in the game
Trevor Ariza landed awkwardly after a rebound and did not return after suffering a sever sprained ankle, he is questionable for the next seriesFinal Score:

Series Analysis
West:
(1) OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER defeat (5) LOS ANGELES LAKERS - [4-3]
Analysis: Another 7 game series for the Thunder, as Kevin Durant was able to get their revenge after the Lakers defeated them last postseason. The Thunder looked like they were going to be in trouble early on, but Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook would narrowly come up big during the crucial moments to win the series.
(3) NEW ORLEANS HORNETS defeats (2) LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS - [4-2]
Analysis: Inexperience and injury got the best of the Clippers in this series. The Clippers started the series hot in game 1, but still found themselves in a close game. For the rest of the series the Hornets looked poised and in control winning all of their games at home while stealing on in LA. They could have even stole game 2 in LA, had it not been for Eric Gordon's clutch game winner. The Clippers were without big man DeAndre Jordan, which meant that David West and Emeka Okafor were free to double up on Blake Griffin with ease. The Clippers also lost Eric Gordon in game 5, whose services would have been great to give the Clippers a chance to force game 7.
East:
(1) MIAMI HEAT sweep (4) CHICAGO BULLS - [4-0]
Analysis: Emotions were high for the Bulls as they were the first team in NBA history to comeback from 3-0 to win the series, but it must have drained them for their matchup with the Heat. LeBron James controlled each game with ease both offensively and defensively. The Bulls offense was lacking greatly as they never scored more than 89 points in any of the games. Now the Big 3 will advance and face-off the first Big 3 that won a championship, the Boston Celtics
(2) BOSTON CELTICS defeat (3) ATLANTA HAWKS - [4-1]
Analysis: Kevin Garnet went old school going back to full-on Timberwolves-MVP-mode in this series. The Celtics let one game slip away from a 1 point loss, but their veteran experience and ferociousness were too much to handle for Joe Johnson and company. The Celtics have shown that they are not yet too old to be a dominating force and now they face the new Big 3 of the league in the Eastern Conference Finals. With the Lakers now eliminated and if the Celtics get passed the Heat, they could very well be the favorites to win Shaq O'Neal another ring before he hangs it up for good.Conference Semi-Finals Bracketology
The Playoffs have not been a disappointment for the fans, as exciting game after exciting game continue to play into the drama of the NBA Finals. But there are some teams that could be feeling disappointment, as some just could not make it and are eliminated in the playoffs. The only thing they have to look forward to now is that they are...Gone Fishin'!
