Billups' Option Finally Picked Up By Knicks
May 26, 2011

            Image

New York, NY -- It may have come to the last day of the deadline but Chauncey Billups will remain as a Knick after all.
The New York Knicks management have finally agreed to pick up Billups' team option that will pay him $14.2 million
next season. The good news came when Chauncey agreed to speak with reporters after a workout at the Knicks'
practice facility at Greenburg, New York.

"They called me early in the morning and said that my option was picked up," said Billups. "After receiving the news I
immediately scheduled a session with our shooting coach, just wanted to get some shots up. I'm glad that I'll be
staying here and play with Melo and Amar'e."

Billups will be turning 35 in September and will be on his 15th season next year. His scoring number was down to 12.8
points per game last season but his assists went up to 8.2 a night.

The Knicks roster now stands at 9.

Was really shocked when I saw that Nash was retiring because he still had 1 yr left on his contract. No Hill, No Nash and No VC.. Suns are in an awful spot right now.

Good job retaining Billups, would've been better if it was a cheaper, multi-year deal instead of the team option, but at least now you have another season to hammer the extension out

ESPN Around the Association: Kidd Retires, Derozan Trade

Future Hall of Famer Retires
Posted: 6/10/2011 11:05:00 AM

Ten time All-Star Jason Kidd announced via the Dallas Mavericks website that he has decided to "call it a career". Here is an excerpt from the press release.

"After a lot of thinking and consultation, I've decided to call it a career. Though I would've loved to chase the elusive championship next season, I don't think my body can handle the rigors of a another full season. I will walk away from the game with a smile on my face knowing I gave my absolute best when I was out there on the court."

Kidd won co-Rookie of the Year (1995) with Grant Hill, who also announced his retirement a few days ago. Some of his accolades were leading the league in assists five times (1999-2001, 2003-2004), named five times to the All-NBA First Team (1999–2002, 2004) and named 4 times to the NBA All-Defensive First Team (1999, 2001–2002, 2006). He also won two Olympic gold medals (2000, 2008) while playing for USA basketball.

Derozan Put on Trade Block?
Posted: 6/07/2011 01:33:00 PM

High flying swingman Demar Derozan of the Toronto Raptors has been a subject of trade talk during the past few days. Two of the teams that are actively pursuing him are the Washington Wizards and the Phoenix Suns.

The Wizards currently own the first pick in the upcoming draft could use it as leverage to snatch Derozan away from the Raptors. Meanwhile the Phoenix Suns are desperately looking for an up and coming star to build their franchise around; this comes after the shocking retirement of Steve Nash.

Derozan averaged 11.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steals last season.

Honestly I really had no choice but to keep Billups, I think he is the best PG option I have right now. I don't have any asset or salary cap space to trade or sign a marquee player. Douglas just isn't good enough to start for me, and his injury will keep him out until December so I really need Chauncey.

Xion wrote:Homicide 1 last hope for them is to wish that they get a new nash :D

Well they do have Aaron Brooks in their lineup, he may not be a "Nash" but the little guy can play.

KNICKS NOW: 2011 New York Knicks Draft Workout (Part 1)

2011 New York Knicks Draft Workout (Part 1)
June 13, 2011

            Image

New York, NY -- The Knicks conducted their last draft workout earlier this morning at Madison Square
Garden. They invited ten draft hopefuls to further assess their strengths and weaknesses.

Here is Part 1 of the scouting reports.

    Kemba Walker - PG

    Image

    Draft Stock: Lottery
    NBA Comparison: Rajon Rondo
    Height: 6'0"
    Weight: 172 lbs
    School/Class: UConn/Junior

      Strengths:
      - One of those players you can rely on in just about every situation.
      - Plays with an undefinable speed.

      Weaknesses:
      - Undersized.
      - Not much of a rebounding presence in the paint.
Scout's Notes: In terms of potential, Walker will continue to improve once he hits the NBA level but he will
probably curtail off pretty fast. I wouldn't say that he is a "what you see is what you get" type of player, but
don't expect him to suddenly have a breakout year out of nowhere.

    Jimmer Fredette - PG/SG

    Image

    Draft Stock: Lottery
    NBA Comparison: Jarrett Jack
    Height: 6'2"
    Weight: 195 lbs
    School/Class: BYU/Senior

      Strengths:
      - Unlimited range.
      - Very high basketball IQ.
      - Deadly accurate jump shooter; wide open looks are money.

      Weaknesses:
      - His ability in the low post is very limited.
      - Athleticism is certainly below average for an NBA point guard.
Scout's Notes: Will be an instant impact player in the NBA as a scorer/shooter off the bench and if he can
tighten up his defense and find a system that works for him, he has the potential to be a very good starting
    point guard.

    Jonas Valanciunas - C

    Image

    Draft Stock: Mid-Late 1st
    NBA Comparison: Yao Ming
    Height: 6'11"
    Weight: 240 lbs
    School/Class: Lithuania/--

      Strengths:
      - Lightning fast hands create headaches for the opposition.
      - Looks like he has the potential to be something in this league.
      - Shows solid vision and court sense.

      Weaknesses:
      - About as athletic as a stone statue; very slow and unwieldy.
      - A little too predictable with his post moves.
Scout's Notes: I can confidently say that his skills are up to par for what we expect out of our draft picks.

    Klay Thompson - SG

    Image

    Draft Stock: Mid-Late 1st
    NBA Comparison: CJ Miles
    Height: 6'6"
    Weight: 202 lbs
    School/Class: Washington St./Junior

      Strengths:
      - Prolific outside shooter.
      - Unselfish and skilled ball distributor, makes the occasional mistake.
      - Smart player, doesn't make many mistakes defensively.

      Weaknesses:
      - Will need help in the defensive low post against stronger opponents.
      - Average athlete who plays below the rim.
Scout's Notes: I was very impressed by his already polished skills. Needless to say, I feel this is a player
whom we should continue to put resources into.

    Travis Leslie - SG

    Image

    Draft Stock: Mid-Late 1st
    NBA Comparison: Kelenna Azubuike
    Height: 6'4"
    Weight: 202 lbs
    School/Class: Georgia/Junior

      Strengths:
      - Extremely athletic.
      - Quick hands and plays passing lanes well.

      Weaknesses:
      - Can get rattled fairly easily when the game is on the line.
Scout's Notes: Has shown excellent improvement in his three years in college increasing both his ppg and mpg
    outputs.

2011 New York Knicks Draft Workout (Part 2)
June 13, 2011

            Image

New York, NY -- The Knicks conducted their last draft workout earlier this morning at Madison Square
Garden. They invited ten draft hopefuls to further assess their strengths and weaknesses.

Here is the last part of the scouting reports.

    Markieff Morris - PF

    Image

Draft Stock: Late 1st to Early 2nd Round
    NBA Comparison: Nick Collison
    Height: 6'10"
    Weight: 245 lbs
    School/Class: Kansas/Junior

      Strengths:
      - Looks like he can contribute for any team right away.
      - Excellent ability to shut down his man when playing defense.

      Weaknesses:
      - Lacks intensity which really hurts him during crunch situations.
      - Facing up and using a dribble is not part of his repertoire.
Scout's Notes: Morris' set of skills will certainly be coveted by NBA teams looking for stability and depth up front
but there's not a lot of upside on this kid, what you see is what you get.

    Kyle Singler - SF

    Image

Draft Stock: Late 1st to Early 2nd Round
    NBA Comparison: Jeff Green
    Height: 6'9"
    Weight: 237 lbs
    School/Class: Duke/Senior

      Strengths:
      - If properly utilized, can help out nicely right away.
      - Experienced champion and winner at the college level.

      Weaknesses:
      - Will need help in the defensive low post against stronger opponents.
      - Below average athleticism
Scout's Notes: His disappointing senior season (especially as a shooter), his lack of athleticism and his probable
struggles on D raised some doubt on where he is going to be picked and how effective he’ll be at the next level.

    Kenneth Faried - PF

    Image

    Draft Stock: Mid-Late 1st
    NBA Comparison: Glen Davis
    Height: 6'8"
    Weight: 228 lbs
    School/Class: Morehead St./Senior

      Strengths:
      - Should definitely be a serviceable player for years to come.
      - Hard working and determined rebounder; dominates the boards.

      Weaknesses:
      - Doesn't move very well on offense or on defense.
      - Is plagued by poor judgment when it comes to ball distribution.
Scout's Notes: The recent success of undersized power forwards (Millsap, Blair, Maxiell, etc) helps his cause but
has to overcome the disadvantages of playing at Morehead, Kentucky in a smaller (Ohio Valley) Conference.

    Jordan Hamilton - SG

    Image

    Draft Stock: Mid-Late 1st
    NBA Comparison: Anthony Parker
    Height: 6'7"
    Weight: 226 lbs
    School/Class: Texas/Sophomore

      Strengths:
      - Will perform like a superstar when the game is on the line.
      - Shows great shooting mechanics.

      Weaknesses:
      - You can't expect a whole lot of improvement from this guy.
Scout's Notes: A player with very high scoring potential and a well-rounded game to complement it. If a team is
looking for a talented wing that can put a lot of points on the board while playing within an offense, Hamilton would
    make a lot of sense.

    Jordan Williams - C

    Image

    Draft Stock: 2nd Round
    NBA Comparison: Theo Ratliff
    Height: 6'10"
    Weight: 260 lbs
    School/Class: Maryland/Sophomore

      Strengths:
      - Truly incredible defensive skill in the low post.
      - Hard working and determined rebounder; dominates the boards.

      Weaknesses:
      - Very limited range; should never take mid to long range shots.
Scout's Notes: Williams showed that he is a smart player who plays with a level head. From the looks of things,
he looks like he might be a very good player.
