LAC Leads 1-0(2) LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS vs. (3) NEW ORLEANS HORNETS Staples Center - Los Angeles, CA May 8, 2011 Matchups Baron Davis PG Chris Paul Eric Gordon SG Marcus Thornton Wilson Chandler SF Trevor Ariza Blake Griffin PF David West Ben Wallace C Emeka Okafor KidJustin: "THE REFS ALMOST COST US THE GAME"
THE FACTS: The Clippers and the Hornets had identical records during the season, but thanks to a buzzer beating game winner 3PT by Eric Gordon the Clippers took homecourt advantage in the playoffs. In this game, Wilson Chandler dominated with his 3PTs making 9 in the game, setting a new franchise playoff record. The game started off hot for both teams, but Chandler's offense kept the Clippers in front. In the 2Q the Hornets inched closer and closer thanks to free throw shooting for them and not even getting to the line for the Clippers and would enter halftime with their first lead. In the 3Q the fouls were plenty as Hornets kept the lead and continued to let it grow and the FT line, but the Clippers kept fighting on even with Baron Davis and Blake Griffin in foul trouble. Tempers were flaring for Baron, who kept yelling a the referees to call their fouls as the Clippers were getting hit hard every time. After a tough layup from Baron, he pointed to the referee and told him to watch the game, the referee thought Baron was giving him the middle finger and called a technical foul.
The 4Q continued to be physical, but both Baron and Blake were playing with a fire as the team played hard defense and did there best not to foul. The Hornets shot a horrible 32% in the quarter and missed FTs, even thought the referees were not shy to give them opportunities. Eventually the Clippers charged would give them back the lead. With the Clippers up by 3 with less that a minute to play, Baron Davis gets his final foul and a technical. Chris Paul makes the technical, but David West goes 1-2 from the free throw line. The missed free throw was enough for Eric Gordon to ice the game at he line with his own FTs and the Clippers take Game 1
THE STAT: The Clippers committed 24 team fouls while the Hornets had only 8
QUOTABLE: KidJustin, "You know, the league is just lucky that my guys are just that good because the refs almost cost us the game. We shot better, we out rebounded, we defended, we passed the ball, but how in the hell does the Hornets only commit 8 fouls and us 24!? They attempted 38 free throws and we only had 12!? Blake was getting hammered and we got nothing. Paul was barely being touched and he went to the line. Want to know why we had so many turnovers? Because the Hornets were fouling us, getting the ball and not getting the call! The league is trying to make their team win and my team lose, and they have the refs cheating for them! It's a good thing that my guys are just so good that we win even if they cheat!"
HOT: Wilson Chandler hit 9 3PTs in this game, which is a new franchise record and ties the NBA playoff record for most 3PTs made in a playoff game
NOT: Marcus Thornton was able to score 14 points, but did it on a dismal 4-14 shooting
GOOD MOVE: Eric Gordon dunked over 3 Hornets
BAD MOVE: With the Clippers up by 3 with less that a minute to play, Baron Davis gets his final foul and a technical. Chris Paul makes the technical, but David West goes 1-2 from the free throw line

KIDJUSTIN FINED BY LEAGUE
The league has fined the Clippers GM KidJustin $1,000 for his comments after the Game 1 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals between the Los Angeles Clippers and the New Orleans Hornets.
After the game KidJustin was quoted saying, "You know, the league is just lucky that my guys are just that good because the refs almost cost us the game.
Off the record, sources say the KidJustin was angry about how the league bought out the Hornets owner and that made the Hornets "the league's team now, their baby" He would also go on to say how the league will do everything in their power to keep the Hornets in the playoffs, but they have to get through the Clippers first. "It's a game of favoritism now" KidJustin said referring to the Clippers always being picked on by David Stern and the rest of the league.
BARON DAVIS SUSPENDED 1-GAME
The league has reviewed the Clippers Baron Davis' final foul in the closing seconds of Game 1 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals between the Los Angeles Clippers and the New Orleans Hornets. The league has issued a suspension to Baron Davis for one game citing that his foul was unsportsmanlike.
A source close to the issue said that the referee that made the all believed Baron Davis intentionally shoved David West on his shot attempt and not making a "basketball play." And then after further review, the suspension was issued because Baron's leg was extended which they believe was an "attempted kick" and will not be tolerated.
The league's statement was issued just moments after the fines issued to Clippers GM KidJustin
