Streak: 3WNew Orleans Arena - New Orleans, LA Apr. 20, 2011 - 7:00 PM (PST) Matchups Chris Paul PG Baron Davis Marcus Thornton SG Eric Gordon Trevor Ariza SF Wilson Chandler David West PF Blake Griffin Emeka Okafor C DeAndre Jordan GORDON ENDS SEASON ON A BUZZER BEATER
THE FACTS: Only 20 seconds left in the season, the game is tied at 118, Eric Gordon dribbles away the clock at the top of the arc. DeAndre Jordan sets a screen, but Emeka Okafor hedges high forcing Eric Gordon to step further away from the basket. Eric Gordon dribbles to the corner with Luke Ridnour chasing him close behind. 1 second left, Gordon rises, Ridnour puts a hand in his face. Gordon clearly released the ball with 0.2 seconds, its good if it goes! [swisshhhh] "BINGO!!!" The Clippers Win! The Clippers defeat the Hornets 121 to 118 at the buzzer!
..
The teams were evenly matched throughout, but it was a real inside versus outside game. The Clippers dominated the paint, but the Hornets rained 3Pointers all night. Trevor Ariza was hot early on with 21 first half points on 5 of 6 shooting from beyond the arc. The Hornets would take a double digit lead in the 3Q however because of a 13 point quarter by Marcus Thornton. Baron Davis was able to weather the lead and get it within single digits going into the 4Q. Baron would continue the charge in the 4Q getting the Clippers into a tie game. With Nick Young exploding to score most of his 24 points in the quarter, a pair of 3Pointers by Eric Gordon and Nick Young put the Clippers up by 6. But Chris Paul kept the score close enough to allow Luke Ridnour to tie the game at 118 with less than 20 seconds remaining. The rest...
THE STAT: With both teams having identical records at 37-21, the Clippers overtake the #2 spot in the West as they hold the tie breaker against the Hornets for sweeping them 2-0 during the regular season
QUOTABLE: Ralph Lawler, "BINGOOOO!!!!!! Eric Gordon with a 3 Pointer to win the game! Clippers take the 2 spot!"
HOT: Marcus Thornton's 3Q helped the Hornets take a double digit lead, mainly from his 3 for 3 3Point shooting to give him 13 in the quarter alone
NOT: Wilson Chandler, one of the top 3 pointer shooters in the league this season, continued to struggled going 1 for 6
GOOD MOVE: Eric Gordon threw down a Blake Griffin-Style posterizing dunk over 3 Hornets and drew a foul
BAD MOVE: On two key occasions, David West stepped out of bounds without much opposition by his defender
Injuries: N/A
