Nice job picking up Thompson and Brown. I was actually expecting you to shock everyone by picking Kevin Love. Haha, anyway the draft results turned out not too bizzare as I thought. Only Haddadi making it into the first round, and especially the lottery is the one that stands out the most. Also, weird coincidence how NJ ends up getting Lopez and Anderson like they did in real life. Can't wait for the rest of the offseason! (Y)

I know he's not a guard but what about signing James Posey to maybe a 1 or 2 year contract. The only reason I say Posey is mainly because he's good in the playoffs and he is a decent role player.

Cavaliers Sign Four New Players

Cleveland signed three NBA veterans and an undrafted rookie.

Cleveland, OH -- The Cavaliers signed guards Roger Mason, Jr. and Von Wafer and forwards Josh Powell and undrafted rookie J.J. Hickson to complete their 2008-09 training camp roster. The roster now stands at 15.

Mason, Jr. didn't get to play that much last season and appeared in only 24 games for the Wizards and averaged 1.7 PPG. He struggled to get minutes as he was behind Antonio Daniels in the regular bench rotation. The combo guard's sweet shooting and veteran instincts will be counted upon to play quality minutes as a backup for Delonte West and Michael Redd.

Meanwhile, Wafer didn't see action at all last season which technically makes him only a 2-year pro despite being drafted in 2005 by the Lakers. He was a constant figure in Portland's reserves list and spent much of his time playing in the D-League.

Like Wafer, 6'9" power forward Josh Powell spent the whole 2007-08 season playing in the D-League despite being in contract with the Warriors. His bulk and rebounding presence will be a great help for the Cleveland bench.

All three were signed to 1-year deals at the veteran's minimum.

And lastly, Cleveland inked undrafted forward, J.J. Hickson from North Carolina State to a 2-year minimum deal. Cleveland's GM Zoilo Resurreccion was surprised to see the energetic forward wasn't drafted and immediately contacted his agent.

"We really liked what he showed to us during the pre-draft workouts," said Resurreccion. "I think he has the tools and skill set to play in this league. He and Jason (Thompson) are good investments for the team's future."

don't expect too much with the trading weeks.. you'll be disappointed..

Yeah, Mock draft was spot on.. Kevin love was drafted at 40..

I was surprised to see that coincidence too, Courtney Lee was also drafted by the Magic.. With Love, I would have drafted him in the second round if he was still available..

I don't have the cap to sign him coz I used the MLE last season to sign Penny.. But let's see what happens in the season..

Good signings, especially Mason although I think in your roster he is not as good as he is known nowadays. I love this part of the offseason. Now I hope you can improve some of your young players and find a core rotation soon.

All 4 players are good role players! I especially like Wafer and Hickson. Although their ratings probably aren't as good as they should be. But these 4 should complete your roster and might even put you over the hump in the East.

Ace signings bro. Wafer and Mason are really good off the bench, Powell and Hickson will only see garbage time, right?

Not sure how good Wafer is in your dynasty, but if he is as good as he is now, it can be a good signing.

If you can develop Mason and Wafer into the type of players they are today, your team could be a serious contender. Powell and Hickson will be good back-up big men for the back-up big men. :D

Great signings! Powell and Hickson are great third-stringers. And if Mason and Wafer can play somewhat close to the level that they play in real life, your team will definitely be a chamiponship contender!

I went to that Spurs game on the sixteenth last season. We got crushed by about twenty points. Hopefully that doesn't happen to you. Good luck in the Preseason, even though it doesn't matter that much. I'm surprised that you kept this going for this long. I can't want for the regular season to start.

Yeah, Mason only has a rating of 65 in my dynasty but he has a good outside shot that my team desperately needs..

Sit wrote:Well, you have filled up your roster and its time to start the new season!

It will be starting soon... Some preseason games to practice with my new roster and then I'm good to go..

Martti. wrote:All 4 players are good role players! I especially like Wafer and Hickson. Although their ratings probably aren't as good as they should be. But these 4 should complete your roster and might even put you over the hump in the East.

Both Wafer is rated 64 while Hickson have a 62 rating.. I guess they need a lot of time with the assistant coach to boost up their ratings but they'd be good role players like you said..

thierryhenry50 wrote:Ace signings bro. Wafer and Mason are really good off the bench, Powell and Hickson will only see garbage time, right?

As of now I think that only Roger Mason would get decent minutes..

balozunite wrote:Not sure how good Wafer is in your dynasty, but if he is as good as he is now, it can be a good signing.

His rating is only 64 right now in my dynasty, but I'm planning to give him some training time with the assistants to maybe improve his rating... But he could be a great backup if someone in my regular rotation gets injured or is in foul trouble...

Survivor-Change wrote:Good, you signed Mason and Wafer. I love that two. :o

Me too, especially Wafer! And thanks for checking out my dynasty.. (Y)

I hope so man, after a disappointing exit last season I am hoping to at least reach the Finals but with my roster I don't think it's good enough to get me over the hump..

Love Mason and Wafer. They're going to add a ton of offensive firepower off the bench. Mason's got the shot while Wafer's got the athleticism to be a pretty good finisher at the rim.

Cavs All Access: 2008 Training Camp

Postby homicide1550 on Mon Aug 10, 2009 2:18 am

Image

2008 Training Camp

It has been a year since he arrived here in Cleveland and a lot has changed. Gone were Daniel Gibson, Anderson Varejao and others whom started the season with the team until he decided to trade them away. It was at this practice facility that he first met LeBron James, back when he was still Danny Ferry's assistant.

"Oh man, it's been that long huh?" Zoilo asked himself as he stood from the sidelines while watching his players scrimmage.

The young Cavaliers GM was on hand to witness the first day of training camp to properly assess the team's needs and weaknesses and also evaluate his newly acquired players. And right on queue Roger Mason swooshed his second triple of the game.

"That's one thing we really need," said Mike Brown who was now right beside the GM.

"Yeah, that was the primary reason we signed him, too bad he was only looking for a 1-year deal. So what do you think of our lineup?" asked Zoilo.

"Compared to last year I guess we aren't built to contend for this year's title. Without Deke, Penny and Joe we just got a little too young for my tastes. And we lack a reliable backup big man." answered Brown.

"Exactly what I expected you to say but don't worry coach. I'll try my best to work on some deals in the near future. Tell LeBron I'm working on it, I'll surround him with better players, I know he wants a shot at the championship and we're going to give it to him."

About four hours have passed and day one of the training camp was officially over but before everyone went for the showers, coach Mike Brown gathered everyone in the locker room.

"Alright guys as you already know we are going to hold the annual Wine and Gold scrimmage on the 4th of October, as usual we'll have the starters against the bench so better be ready for it. Before we end the day I think the team captains have something to say to you, LeBron and Mike the floor is yours."

Both guys were gold medal winners in the recently concluded Beijing Olympics. Michael Redd spoke first and told the team his experiences with Team USA and how everyone in the team sacrificed and set aside their egos to reach their goal. After him was LeBron James who was holding his Gold Medal and showing it to everyone in the room.

"This is probably the greatest achievement of my basketball career, winning this gold medal and bringing honor to our country. But I know not all of us are fortunate enough to be given that chance so we've gotta settle for the next great thing, winning the Larry O' Brien trophy," declared James.

"Once again I want to say sorry for leaving all of you in the middle of the battle in last year's playoffs but I promise you I'll do everything to make up for that this season. I know our team isn't as strong as some other teams but we can do this, we just gotta stick together and play our hearts out every single game."

James then signaled everyone to join him in the center to form a circle with their fists high above their heads.

"Alright guys, let's do this together, championship on three.... One, Two, Three..."

"CHAMPIONSHIP!" shouted everyone which echoed through out the facility as everyone clapped their hands and nodded in approval.

Everyone in the locker room believed their leader and no one doubted it, the King has returned to build an NBA dynasty...

Thanks man, it won't be too long before the season starts but I'm afraid I won't be doing game by game recaps, I'm leaning on doing 1 game a month and just doing a much comprehensive monthly recap.

Its_asdf wrote:Love Mason and Wafer. They're going to add a ton of offensive firepower off the bench. Mason's got the shot while Wafer's got the athleticism to be a pretty good finisher at the rim.

Exactly why I added Mason, Wafer meanwhile will be a third stringer unless someone goes down with an injury or foul trouble he really won't get much minutes...

Clutch wrote:interesting additions to you squad; not sure they put you over the top or if they're merely future trade fodder ;)

I agree, my team definitely has a weaker lineup compared to last season's roster, just gotta play it through until I can get deals done and get better players through trade or free agency..
