Oh wow, that's pretty awesome! For NBA Jam T.E., are you limited to roster editing or can you edit team names & court colors as well?

I'm sure it's possible, but I haven't figured that much out yet. I think for the team names it's exactly the same as editing the player name tags, it's just a matter of finding the locations within the rom. Same goes for the team logos. I'd have to imagine it's the same as editing the player portraits, but something tells me there's more to it than that.

As for court and jersey colors, that seems like it's a huge can of worms that's completely over my head. I started off doing this on a trial and error basis just following some tutorials and started to get the hang of it after a few days. I just figured I'd leave all the team data the same (OKC = Seattle, Brooklyn = New Jersey, I think those are the only two that are different), and if the project was well received I could try to figure that stuff out for future edits.

So I've been working on some stats for a couple teams, but all the data is in a spreadsheet. What's the best / easiest way to post that here? Would love to get some help perfecting the rosters. Problem is, I think 2k14 bases it's ratings off of other players at the position, and I think NBA Jam bases it off of the whole league. So a guard in 2K might have a dunk rating of 70 in 2k but really only be like a 4 or 5 in NBA Jam. I really want the rosters to feel as close to the original as possible, but I don't think I watch enough NBA games outside of my Cavs to really make that happen.

I think there's a way you can post a table on here so we can help with ratings. I can help you make ratings if you want. it's pretty simple 0-9 for each player

You can check the NLSC Hub section for the sticky on BBCode for tables, otherwise you can zip it up and upload the archive as an attachment to a post, which can then be downloaded and viewed.

Hmm. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Literally just copied and pasted the code from that stickied thread and it doesn't work. I would love to just post the rosters from 2K on here and have you guys help me tweak it.

Actually, looks like I'll need to add more info to that thread; sorry about that! Here's an example of the table code to use:

Code: Select all
[table][tr][td][b]Tables[/b][/td][td][b]Test[/b][/td][/tr][tr][td]Row[/td][td]Two[/td][/tr][tr][td]Row[/td][td]Three[/td][/tr][/table]

Which would display this:

Awesome. Thanks! I've been lost without the site today, kept refreshing the page trying to see what was going on lol. I'm going to post a template here so I can start posting the rosters, then once I figure out where everyhing is supposed to go I'll post the rosters that I have.

Here's the code, if anyone's interested:

Okay, so here are the Spurs. I'm going to use them as the guinea pig to see what you guys think. Like I said, all this info is ripped directly from 2k14. Do you think this will work well in NBA Jam? Should I tweak it? If you think these are good to work with, I'll get to work on ripping the rest of the data from 2k. Also, I'm also going to have a tough time with the clutch values. How does one exactly rate a players "clutch" value? Obviously it's going to be high for the superstars but I think it's going to be tougher for the big men and role players.

Another quick question. I couldn't get the data for injured players since 2K automatically drops them down to like 25. How can I load the default rosters? Do I have to delete something in my app folder? I tried some different things within the game but I couldn't find any way to get them back to normal.

Anyway, just wanna say thanks to you guys for helping this project get one step closer to reality. Really appreciate the help I've received so far. Cheers!

Unfortunately there were a couple of technical issues, should hopefully be all sorted now.

When you start a new Association game, all injury data should be cleared, which should allow you to reference the unaltered player ratings.

I really want to finish the portraits this weekend, but whatever glitch I'm running into is pissing me off more than words can describe. I don't know what's going on with this. The amount of work I've put into this with nothing to show for it is so frustrating. I do the portraits the same way every single time, yet somehow I have almost 70 that are perfect, and 30+ that do not want to cooperate no matter what I seem to do.

Image

:edit: I may have actually figured out what the issue is. Fixed one of the portraits that wasn't working. I'm hoping this fix will do the trick for the remaining portraits and not just the one I tested.

:edit 2: looks like we're back in business. So excited. Really hopeful that I can knock the rest of these out this weekend.

You're the one behind Hitz 20-13? No way! I've been meaning to check that mod out, as well as the Street remake, both look fantastic. I still have a franchise on Hitz 20-03 for Xbox that gets play time every now and then. Especially love playing that game with friends, it's one of my favorites. Hopefully when I get back together with my buddies over Christmas I can give those a try. Might have to try working on some Gamecube mods once this project is finished.

Also, another update to the project: big thanks to sevin0seven, he just finished up on an excel sheet with all the player data which hopefully will be added to the OP soon. Everything is starting to come along with this project, and I definitely think it will be finished sooner than later. Big thanks to everyone on the forums for the help and support.

Perhaps I could put together a demo soon. Heat vs Spurs perhaps?

What do you guys think about rookie portraits? Should I use their draft day photos, as below, or should I continue to use the nba.com photos as I have been with the other players?

I think the Draft day photos look alright, though I guess it would be better if they're all uniform. You might want to check out the 2013/2014 headshot packs in the Resources section of our Downloads database:

Re: NBA Jam 2k14 - NBA Jam T.E. SNES Update Project

Alright, so the Rudy Gay trade got me thinking, which led to some decisions about where to go from here.

The trade deadline is February 20th. I think that's a perfect time (or shortly after, depending on how busy of a day it is) to release a final version of the project. I really don't want to have to release 10 different roster updates with the impending trades. Makes more sense to have one final release with all the rosters 100% accurate.

In the mean time, I think I want to release a closed beta around January 1st. I have about 10 or 15 portraits left to import into the game. Once that's finished, I have about 20 or so more that I want to edit so everything looks perfect, but I don't want to waste my time doing that when I still have to do the rosters. I'm more so interested in getting some feedback on how the game plays and what tweaks should be made, rather than wasting time making sure every pixel in every portrait looks spot on.

If you're interested in helping out with testing, just post here and I'll be sure to hook you up when I'm ready to release it.

Reckon I could spare some time to check out a beta. (Y)

Having a roster cutoff date (not unlike the games themselves) and avoiding releasing multiple updates certainly sounds like far less of a hassle. To that end, the trade deadline definitely seems like a logical choice.

Decided to take a break from portrait editing. As of right now, all sprites have been ripped! Going to import them into my spreadsheet eventually, but for now this will work. It's funny how detailed the developers sprites are, and how generic and crappy most of the actual players are lol. Some day I need to figure out how to edit the sprites, but I figure as long as the height and skin color are spot on, the heads aren't that big of a deal for this project. Most will probably be the same generic looking one.

Fantastic! Appreciate you getting the word out there. I'd love if this project could make it's way to a major gaming blog or two by the time I release it.

I got a lot of work done last night. All of the on screen data is accurate, so if you're browsing through the menu you'll be able to see all of the player ratings. I have all of the programs installed on my laptop now, so today I want to change the in game sprites and ratings, then finish up any portraits that aren't in the game yet. Got nothing but time on my hands so I should be able to knock out a good partition of it.

Appreciate all of the support from you guys, really gets me motivated to put the work in to make this a reality.
