What Are You Buying: 2K or Elite?

Postby Fresh8 on Mon Sep 06, 2010 10:15 pm

Hey guys, I know another thread exists but I'm just adding a poll so that people too lazy to post can vote.

I am playing NBA 2K9. I did not bother to get 2K10 and didn't even consider Live 10 when it came out. My mate owns both 2K10 and Live 10. I like 2K more because I just like the 'feel' of the gameplay. I thought it looked better than Live as well. What turned me off Live was the arcade-like feel of the game.

I want my NBA game to be about: game play and a realistic and hands-on dynasty/association mode. Hence, MJ mode in 2K11 and international teams in Live don't really earn extra points in my books.

With that said, what would you guys recommend from your experience with Live 10 and 2K10 and your speculations on the new versions of the respective games? Or should I skip on both again? To be honest, there's are a lot of information out there and I haven't got the time to read everything since I have not been following the lead up to the release of the games. It would be great to see some opinions and summaries. :)

Thanks in advance!

Edited the poll as you'd written Elite 10 and 2K10, plus I think Both and Neither should be options.

I'll be getting both.

Fair enough, but that's not the only feasible (and for some, likely) course of action here. And if nothing else, I've corrected what I assume was a typo. ;)

Both most likely. You advertise physics and Ill be automatically drawn to it, add in NBA Jam and shit, I gotta have it! (if I can afford it, damn you Halo)
Opinions are my own.

I'm getting both, Elite for the PS3, and 2K11 for the PC, in order for all to be affordable.

I'll abstain from voting since I need to play both demos first. At the moment probably leaning towards 2k11 for PS3, but only because my mates play online. I'll only be getting one game though. I was disappointed with 2k10, so MJ factor isn't huge for me. Fun gameplay is paramount. It also has to be more sim than arcade.

Honestly, real time physics aren't a selling point for me...... My selling point is: What can you do besides Dynasty/Association and Quick Game. 2k wins there.

For people with experience in both, how did the dynasty/association modes compare?

Don't tell me about My Player cause I think that's a gimmick and don't have any real interest in it!

Also, I don't have my Xbox connected to internet. Therefore I can't get NBA Jam if I got Elite?

Dynasty Mode was definitely broken in NBA Live 10, I'd give it to Association last year. It's apparently received attention this year though, notably it's featured in the main menu of NBA Elite 11 so hopefully that means they feel it's worthy of being promoted as one of the main game modes (as it should be).

I haven't played dynasty mode since 07. What features does it have? :)

Are there MLE? Veteran minimums? 10 day contracts?
Are their practices?
Were the simulation stats in 09 good?
What were the draft prospects like?

I recall there being the MLE, not sure about the latter of the three.

There's practices at the beginning of every month. Though the improvement of players isn't deep.

Didn't play 09, but I heard they weren't good.

In Live 10, the draft prospects are terrible. Most (sometimes including the #1 pick), are around the 60's/low 70's in overall. Sometimes you might run into 80 overall rookies.

MLE: Yes

Minimums: Yes

10 Day Contracts: No

Practices: Yes, but they're held once a month and NBA Live 10 had a few issues with being able to develop shooting ratings (ie you couldn't)

Simulated Stats: Acceptable, far from great in NBA Live 09. Not good in NBA Live 10 as the sim engine wasn't updated to reflect some of the changes to the player ratings. Has been mentioned as an area that's received attention in NBA Elite 11.

Draft Prospects: Still some weirdness there but as you can see from badreligionau's Dynasty thread, it doesn't necessarily have to impede enjoyment. Ratings could be better as Axel13 said, that's one of the things that was briefly mentioned in the enhancements to NBA Elite 11's Dynasty Mode.

What pissed me off with NBA 2K9 is that a lot of good players don't get picked up in free agency. They rather be free agents unsigned for a whole season. Does Live have this issue? Do older players sign for less like in real life? Do CPU teams fill out their rosters?

Most of the time. The highest overall I've found in FA was like 78. That was an aging player though.

Yeah, it's not quite as bad as it was in a couple of older NBA Live releases.
