My approach to a fantasy Draft is a little different to yours Cleveland. I have a more elaborate method in starting a dynasty so my dynasty rosters usually gets stacked up from top to bottom. And how good my team looks after each season is thanks to what I've set up in the draft.
Step 1) The first thing I do in the fantasy draft is to make sure I get to be picking the #1's on the draft.
Step 2) Then I get a player I'm gonna stick with for the rest of the Dynasty, aka Franchise Player.
Step 3) Get a Complimentary Player. Usually someone who doesn't have score too much but can also take over for the Franchise Player
Step 4) Next I try to NOT build around the franchise and complimentary player yet, but instead, go for the young players with the highest overall rating that are left in the current round, no matter what positions they have. I usually do this step from Rounds 3 to 8.
Step 5) Usually, the 9th to 12th picks of the draft usually are all about of the same overall rating so what I look for in these rounds are players with High Salaries. I call these Cap Fillers.
Step 6) After hiring staffs and training camp, my first priority for the start of the season is always filling the 3 Injured Reserves spots by first getting the mid-level exception qualified free agents with the highest rating. (You're only allowed 1 mid-level exception each year so it better be the best player you can get in the free agent pool.)
Step 7) Next, fill the reserves spots with minimum-level salary players.
Step 8) Trade for the players you like for every position. Usually, your transactions will be 2-for-1's and 3-for-1's, but when it comes to big-time players, with High salaries, you tend to have to let go of great players you've drafted besides 1st and 2nd round fantasy picks.
Step 9) And Finally, step 8 usually frees more roster space so you fill it up again with minimum salary free agents once again. Do it as frequently as possible every time you free some spots.
When trading, I always recommend to anyone to start from the bottom of the lineup then up. Usually, the bottom of the roster would consist of players with ratings of 67 and down.
Here's my guidelines for Trading excluding 1-for-1, 2-for-2, and 3-for-3 trades:
3 players with 64 or bellow for 1 player with 78-81.
2 players with 65-67 for 1 player with 76-80.
3 players with 67-69 for 1 player with 82-85.
2 players with 70-74 for 1 player with 83-85.
3 players with 75-77 for 1 player with 86-89.(can be with 1 65 and below player)
2 players with 77-80 for 1 player with 87-89.
3 players with 77-82 for 1 player with 90-94.(can be with 1 65 and below player)
2 players with 82-84 for 1 player with 92-95.(can be with 1 65 and below player)
3 players with 83-85 for 1 player with 94-99.(can be with 1 or 2 67-and-below players.)
2 players with 86-88 for 1 player with 96-99. (can be with 1 65 and below player)
3 for 2 trades usually only involve players with almost similar ratings. Sometimes however, the 3rd guy your trading is just to attract the other team to accept the trade just for filling the roster up.
And that's how I usually create my roster. During the fist year of the dynasty, I end up wit a 12 man roster, then a 13 man roster on the 2nd year, 14 man on the 3rd year and a full roster on the 4th year. The last man on the lineup for me usually have a 74 overall rating or above, and the team has at least 7 players with superstar freestyles every year with at least 3 players having a 90+ overall rating.
